Nice to see this episode was better for your tastebuds than #311. I’ll take a .667 batting average any day of the week. I think ive seen A to Z wines in the stores before, your review on that one might inspire me to look for it or another wine from them next time im out. QOTD: 2003 Royal Tokaji 5 puttonyos azsu and 2004 San Felice Vin Santo del Classico. Never tried a Vin Santo or Tokaji before and I enjoyed them both.

Since I can find it locally I need to give that A to Z Pinot Gris a whirl.

    QOTD: Last 2 bottles consumed:
    1. 1999 Clos Rougeard (Foucault) Saumur-Champigny
    2. NV Saint-Cosme Vin de Table Français Little James’ Basket Press

    I’m trying new things!

Hi Gary, Have just discovered you via Slate column from a few months back and now enjoying your shows.
Am now quaffing the 2006 A to Z pinot gris and find it very smooth! Also with an aftertaste of marshmallow or maybe I’m imagining.
Anyway, keep up the good work! My local wine store (5 minute walk) will undoubtedly benefit!
Don’t hate me but I’ve been a Pats fan for a LONG TIME. :-)

Last two wines I drank? Hmm, let’s see. Today was an unusual one. It’s called Man’s Best Blend, a 2004 red blend from Columbia Valley, made by Arbor Crest and sold only at World Market stores. I was inside World Market, saw it, and it looked interesting, so I grabbed a bottle. Not bad. Some pleasant banana and tobacco notes.

The last wine before that was a Columbia Crest Grand Estates 2002 Syrah. Excellent.

    Gary,
Last 2 wines? I had a big wine and cheese pairing party at my house, so I’ll give you the two NEW wines I tried there: Traminette by New York winery Goose Watch and a Leon Millot from a Vermont winery.

I was curious to hear your input on the Bogle Pinot Noir. I am a fan of Bogle wines, but not the Pinot in question. I was curious to hear there were so many that requested it. Thanks for you very informational input.

Enjoy the value wine shows. Have had good value wines from all 3 of the producers on today’s show. Last night I had a good pinot from Lemelson (Willamette Valley) at a tasting. Then finished with a California cab (don’t remember the name).

Nice show, Gary. So, do you think that it easier to get a good bottle of wine under $20 if it’s white than if it’s red?

QOTD: The last two bottles of wine I had were a 2005 Amisfield Pinot Noir (which rocked) and a 1999 Chateau Dauzac (which was still rather young, but quite tasty and surprisingly fruity).

QOTD: Just had the Tenuta Rocca barbera d’alba. Ok wine not that exciting compared to other barbera’s that I’ve had. Also had the Notarparano which is very good both in wine and price 13$.

QOTD: At a restaurant last night had, “Siena” Ferrari Carano, Merlot Ferrari Carano, Antinori Peppoli, Rutherford Hill, Jewel Zin, and Pighin Pinot Grigio.

Tomorrow night having a wine dinner with two other couples; we might do a blind challenge with whites, I may sneak in a Charles Shaw to see how it fairs, haha.

Oh yeah, can’t leave without answering the QOTD:

While watching the WLTV episode tonight I was sipping Robart Karl (Columbia Valley) Sauvignon Blanc and before that I opened one of my Ash Hollow Cabernet Sauvignons (2005 Walla Walla Valley). Every day (cheap) sippers I had over the last couple days were the Simplicity Red (2004 McLaren Vale, Australia) and Six Prong Red (Columbia Valley, WA).

    Mr. Ambassador

    Great show.

Have to vent though - Washington SUCKS! What’s going on here… I logged in to purchase the two cases of wine I had in my shopping cart only to find out that you are no longer shipping to Washington State (As Shakespeare wrote: “Something’s rotten in the state of…”). Still hope Sasha enjoys his special day, even if I can’t get a discount on shipping.

I really enjoyed watching you sample three wines that I’ve recently tasted; I was shouting at the screen when you sampled the Bogle: “come on, back me up - I didn’t like it at all” and sure enough, you gave it a PAZZZZZZZZ. I’ve tried the Stickleback Red and though it was a value but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the white. Fortunately all the wines you sampled are available at the local wine shops as I can no longer order through Wine Library (well, I suppose I could get a PO Box somewhere in Oregon).

I’ll still watch all episodes of WLTV though I have the feeling that I’ve just been hit in the gut now that I can’t receive any more Wine Library shipments (must be like your “Gary Is Sad” episode). Is this what it feels like when your NFL team relocates to a new state? When the player whose shirt you’re wearing is suspended for steroid use? When the opposing team’s coaching staff is caught video-taping signals (you know what I’m talkin’ about). Burns me up… To those of you who live in “reciprocity states” and can receive your wine shipments with no troubles, be aware of how lucky you are!

Also have to add that those Lurker Shirts are pretty cool.

Haven’t found any Thundercats for you yet but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.

Thanks again for a great show!
