    Mr. Ambassador

Oh yeah, can’t leave without answering the QOTD:

While watching the WLTV episode tonight I was sipping Robart Karl (Columbia Valley) Sauvignon Blanc and before that I opened one of my Ash Hollow Cabernet Sauvignons (2005 Walla Walla Valley). Every day (cheap) sippers I had over the last couple days were the Simplicity Red (2004 McLaren Vale, Australia) and Six Prong Red (Columbia Valley, WA).

    Mr. Ambassador

    Great show.

Have to vent though – Washington SUCKS! What’s going on here… I logged in to purchase the two cases of wine I had in my shopping cart only to find out that you are no longer shipping to Washington State (As Shakespeare wrote: “Something’s rotten in the state of…”). Still hope Sasha enjoys his special day, even if I can’t get a discount on shipping.

I really enjoyed watching you sample three wines that I’ve recently tasted; I was shouting at the screen when you sampled the Bogle: “come on, back me up – I didn’t like it at all” and sure enough, you gave it a PAZZZZZZZZ. I’ve tried the Stickleback Red and though it was a value but I didn’t enjoy it nearly as much as the white. Fortunately all the wines you sampled are available at the local wine shops as I can no longer order through Wine Library (well, I suppose I could get a PO Box somewhere in Oregon).

I’ll still watch all episodes of WLTV though I have the feeling that I’ve just been hit in the gut now that I can’t receive any more Wine Library shipments (must be like your “Gary Is Sad” episode). Is this what it feels like when your NFL team relocates to a new state? When the player whose shirt you’re wearing is suspended for steroid use? When the opposing team’s coaching staff is caught video-taping signals (you know what I’m talkin’ about). Burns me up… To those of you who live in “reciprocity states” and can receive your wine shipments with no troubles, be aware of how lucky you are!

Also have to add that those Lurker Shirts are pretty cool.

Haven’t found any Thundercats for you yet but I’m keeping my eyes peeled.

Thanks again for a great show!

Does that mean a plane ticket from little old New Zealand Gary?

I opened a bottle of Esk Valley Merlot/Cab Sauv on saturday and only had a glass out of it, I thought it was tight and one dimensional. last night I noticed it neglected sitting on the bench in the kitchen and popped the cork again. This wine was magical, about 4 days after opening it I couldn’t believe how well tasted. I assumed it had something to do with the sulphites managing to preserve the wine ever so slightly, with a slow oxydation. I have to admit it did have a hint of “open 2 or more days” but I kind of like it, the girlfriend loved it too.

Also a New Zealand Deutz Rose Methode from Marlborough – Just delightful, had it at a tasting beside 3 NV french champagnes – PJ, Mumm and Deutz (F). Amazing complexity, quality to price ratio beats french any day

Love the value week. I have always been tying to find value wine for every day drinking.

QOTD – 2001 Argyle Brut that was great and a 2004 Foris Muscat Late Harvest that was very disappointing. No flavor just sugar water and chemical aromas.

Viva value wines! Our ’special occasion’ wines languish in the cellar while we pop a value wine every day or two.

Cht. Souverain ‘05 Chardonnay with halibut.
Valley of the Moon Cuvee ‘02 with smoked pork.

    Gary,

Second comment of the day. On a roll and a new record ;-)

Hooray for the Ellen show! Gotta come up with something about wine and dancing….hummmmmm I know…a Vayniac wine dance. I can’t dance, so don’t know what it would look like, but I’m sure someone in the Vayniacnation could come up with one. :-) )

QOTD: Darioush 2004 Napa Cab (A few more bones for everyday-50, but worth it…YUM) and Imagery 2003 Sonoma Cab Franc (based on your recent Cab Franc show)

Have a great trip to the Ellen show!

Too funny, husband and I happened to go out and buy the Bogle Pinot Noir Monday night and then there it was the next day on here! We loved it, bit drier than I normally go but we let it sit out for a few hours- made it much smoother and fuller, allowed some of the citrus flavor to come out instead of the smokiness i initially noted. Paired with some great gouda and it’s a party. Thanks Gary!

Come on Gary. I understand the problems, but give me some scores. They’re fun! QOTD: Schifit Heritage Riesling 04′ and Montoya Napa Cab 05′(not great or even that good for the price point, but probably the only good Cab with the Napa designation under 20 I’ve ever had)
