I work at ‘Crown Wine & Spirits’ in Ft.Lauderdale,FL. We have wines open to taste, everyday. The other day it was ‘Chateau Ducasse’,lovely lovely. Also, a surprise ‘Estancia’ Sauvignon Blanc. Very delicious for it’s 9.99 price tag. A creamy lemon curd flavor, much like the lovely ‘chateau Ducasse’. Really nice. I also think of the ‘Amanya’ sauvignon blanc I had a while back. Delicious. Those are the last two wines I had.
Thanks, Gary !!!! I always learn from your shows. It’s great fun,too !

To Pastafari Pirate: I’d rather water, straight out of the dog’s bowl, while on all fours, than drink Sutter Home. If you need to call someone next time you feel the need to drink Sutter Home, give me a call.

First time to comment, but I’ve been lurking for a while. Gary, thank you for doing this. YOU bring the thunder. Along the lines of value, could you do an episode on Cote de Blaye claret? I was brought up on these wines and would like your take on this area of Bordeaux.
    Cheers

Hey, thanks for giving me a new inexpensive white to try. I’ll have to stick that Stickleback into my shopping cart. QOTD: aw, shit; do I dare answer this? Do I lie? ok, most recent was a Baccari’s Monferrato Dolcetto, and before that… *cringe* a Sutter Home Muscat. Yep, I should’ve lied and said anything else. Hey, I was curious. And no, I will never make that mistake again. Now you’ll never respect me. *sigh*

We’ll see your Jets this Sunday. CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW! CAW!

    – ‘02 vache pinot noir from cienega valley, ca – the nose made me smile, for the first time I sort of got a hint of that bacon you talk about
    – the other was a loire cab franc that I liked a whole lot, can’t remember the producer

    word of the day: eucalyptic

    QOTD: (long time lurker)

2001 Columbia Crest Two Vines Shriaz (drinking now [right now], even better than it was years ago, glad I purchased a case, 4 bottles left :-( )

2005 Pillar Box Red (one of the best wine values I’ve ever had [the above wine was a great value also], purchased cases of this stuff and still find a few lost bottles in local stores from time to time. Avoid the 2006, it’s half the wine the 2005 is)

You gotta love these value shows……….well done.

How’s that follow-on Sherry episode coming?

GV, thanks for tasting the Bogle PN. Bummed you dissed it. I have noticed a good amount of bottle variation amongst the Bogle PNs I have had. You picked a loser bottle….

QOTD: 2005 Bogle PN (Friday with salmon; not as good as others, B TW) and a 2000 Miguel Torres (Spain) Cabernet Sauvignon.

Wow, really happy you discovered two good whites under 15 bones.

QOTD: Too bad you weren’t asking what are the last six wines you tried. The last two are a 2004 Twenty Rows Cabernet and a 2003 Jacobs Creek Reserve Shiraz.

Okay I’ll let you in on the last six. Did a vertical of Gaia blends, 1999 through 2002. And GW, just so you know, the 2002 had a screw top.

QOTD: Susana Balbo Malbec and the Innocent Bystander
Very tasty. But both bottles “evaporated” very quickly when I was alone with them. Wierd.

Bodega Septima 2005 Malbec – Mendoza — Great for 9.00 – One of my favorites.
