QOTD: 1855class-I also just tried a Novellum Chard….very good unoaked vin de pays for the price. Too bad Wine Library does not carry it! My other was the Monteviejo Lindaflor Malbec Gary did in August. The alcohol could burn your eyes! Cheers

Hi Gary! Good show today. The QOTD got me thinking…Have you ever done a show on the excellent negroamaro grape from Puglia? Because my wife and I just had a bottle of 2001 Duca Belisario, which was a 80/20 blend of negroamaro/malvasia nera grapes, and it was just freakin’ excellent. My first experience with these grapes and I was quite impressed. If you haven’t already, please do a show on wines like this because I want more! The second most recent wine I had was a 2005 Chateau des Correges from the Cotes du Rhone. A little skunky. Oh well, they can’t all be winners. Take care!

Just put in my order for the Vayniac Cab, and totally forgot the sasha code. Oh balls. Probably wouldn’t have worked for that item anyway, I’m guessing. Keeping my fingers crossed for the drawing. Throwing a young dude like me (23) into the blending could make things interesting.

QOTD: Last two bottles were:
X Winery Sauvignon Blanc – $10 bottle from Lake County. Wasn’t impressed.
Sant Appiano Chianti – Enjoyed quite a bit. Would like to hear your take on it.

QOTD: Last night was the 2000 Bodegas Tintoralba Almansa Crianza (I say 88 points), and a few nights before that the 2005 Boekenhoutskloof The Wolftrap (89 points, steal for the price).

Hi Gary! Love the show. Lately I’m watching it a lot during work… keeps me happy and thinking about wine when I’m tired of the grind. I wish I had Tivo so I could see you on Ellen! I’m going to have to find a way…

Last two wines: Black Box 2005 Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon (decent boxed wine with 4 bottles worth for 20 bones!) and Skylark 2006 Pink Belly Mendocino rose (a lovely grenache-syrah rose).

Interesting that you picked up the cocounut in the Australian white – I had an inexpensive semillon/sauvignon blanc blend (Terra Australis) from Trader Joe’s last night that had a noticeable pina colada aroma too …

QOTD – Two wines that you recommended Gary: Giacomo Grimaldi 2005 Dolcetto d’Alba (very good wine for $13) and the Four Vines Chardonnay (which accompanies mild, white fish very well). Tonight though, I am breaking out a 2004 Chappellet Merlot.

I like this week’s theme of low priced wines. It paid off today with two stellar whites. I’m going to look for the Austrailian.

QOTD: The last two bottles of wine were a fruit-bomb, Layer Cake (Austrailian Shiraz) and a local favorite from Mt. Aukum, a 2003 El Rojo De La Tierra. This is a Rhone style wine with 65% Syrah, 33% Mourvedre and 2% Petite Sirah. Maybe my tastes are changing or maybe the Mt. Aukum is a fruit-bomb, too, because I liked it more. Gary, if you ever have a chance to get something from Mt. Aukum winerey, try it!

Great show, always interested in the under 15 bone range. The last two I have had were the 2006 Babich Sauvignon Blanc, which I really enjoyed, and a 2004 The Colonial Estate Grenache, Shiraz, and Mourvedre, a ridiculous fruit bomb but with enough complexity to keep it interesting, so also very enjoyable.

QOTD: Well, the fam was in town so they were very kind to bring a Caymus 2005 Cab. Sauv. I wanted to put it away in a dark corner for a few years but they insisted on drinking. Hmmm, silky goodness.

Then last night I had a Rugia vino rosso frizzante from La riva dei frati (cornuda). It wasn’t very good but it did remind me a lot of kir royale which I drank gallons of in Paris.

Excellent news on the 2007 VCS front – really brought the thunder today! Great idea to make a forum section, the VCS link, as well as adding 5 random vayniacs to the blending (and your even paying for peoples’ tickets!!) Definitely impressed GV, you totally brought the THUNDER!

CONGRATS on the Ellen appearance! She is hilarious (already have it set-up on TIVO).

Like the inexpensive value deals episodes A LOT!
