Top ten? Gary, sorry about the loss. I was actually in Jersey for a wedding this past weekend, and ended up catching part of the game and the bride’s parents home yesterday. The touchdown drive I saw looked great, sorry they couldn’t pull it out! Looking forward to the video.

QOTD: Hendry Ranch Wines…their Zin, Block 7 a while back…probably ‘03 vintage, maybe ‘02. Really opened up a new side of American Zinfandel to me, that I have forever craved since.

“..alright guys, this is a one man show…” Classic :)

So, did you like that last wine or what?

QOTD. Chateau Musar, Gaston Hochar, 1999. That is the closest I’ve come to a wine that blew me away. I’m still learning, have many more to taste, but so far that was it.

    nice show GV!

tried some of those cheeses over the weekend and although I liked the the bomme bouche (VT FTW) the petite frere wasn’t all that. I’m like you, dirty farm cheese is the way to go, and the frere had a manufactured “chemical” aspect to it.

also after a review like that, I had to pick up some boudreaux. You can find in on winesearcher pro for 40 a pop. lata GV have a blast in london!

Dude- your team switched defenses that does not play to Vilmas strengths- BLAME YOUR COACH- you dope!

Your offense has lousy play calling- How can you blame the QB for running the plays the coach calls- They do not get the plays in in time and need to burn time outs for no reason-

Your coach is looking like HERM EDWARDS MORE EVERY GAME-

Very funny on the one man show thing-!!!

  18. October 1, 2007

    KAHUNA

If Ray Lewis had the lousy D-line that Vilma has(which LEWIS did and oh yeah he sucked and cried about it to the press) he would be tackling 5 yards down field also- And Vilma is overated! I agree but it is the LOUSY COACHES FAULT

Hey man, sorry about the NY Jets (and NY Mets!). You should know that many Vayniacs have “adopted” your team–I actually frowned when I saw the Jets score, even though I’m a Packer guy and they are awesome this year.

QOTD: Mas de Boislauzon 2003 chateauneuf du pape. Believe it or not, I had struck out many times with cheaper rhones. This one was irresistable at the store with a shelf talker saying RP 92 and a price of $19.99. It was an awesome wine and I look forward to many more like it.

I’ve just gotten into the wineworld, and I’mma seriously try that last wine, you really inspired me to go and buy a wine, instead of the shit I have to drink from my dad

I agree with BF… you have got us so tuned to Jets football, (when before WLTV I could have given a rats batootee) now I’m feeling disappointed when I see they don’t win. That’s just SICK!!

Gary, Sorry about the Jets, but imagine the pain of a Mets fan!!!! And the Eagles seem to be folllowing the road to loserdom also after the high hopes.

Woohoo. Finally caught up on episodes so I can take the time to comment.

Living in Dallas, not a huge Cowboys fan, but much more so than the Jets. Very interested in seeing Thanksgiving game due to the whiteboard with “Cowgirls”earlier in the year.

QOTD: Nothing yet. My palate is still a virgin when it comes to being able to taste all the flavors of the rainbow.

I REALLY need to start drinking more Washington wines…I keep telling myself this, but I never seem to do it.

The final wine you tastes in this ep. sounds intriguing! Would be interested in you trying the 2004 of this wine as well, as it appears this is what will be available to those of us joining the mailing list.

well the 2003 Bourdeaux was rated in several polls as the best of the northwest and thus is unobtainable. You were lucky to have one. The 2004 is still available, but is a different blend/animal. Alas every field goal can’t be 60 yards. Football metaphor for ya.

    Some good wines today!

QOTD. Transition wine. I’ll have to think about that.

QOTD: 2000 Havens Bourriquot-American Bordeaux blend Cab Franc Merlot (half bottle-I think it might have had a little quick aging if yah know what I mean)-revoplution to my taste buds. American Bordeaux style not pandering itself as a meritage, it was hot stuff.

Sorry about your loss yesterday. This weekend was a perfect football weekend for me. My son is a lineman for his high school team and they got their first win! (He got two sacks!!!) Plus the Raiders won their first away game in who knows how long!

QOTD: A transition wine for me has been French Chablis. I have not like Chardonnay until taseting several Chablis. They changed my mind about what the grape can bring!

Interesting that the high scoring wine of the day was “smooth”, kind of a vague descriptor for Gary.

Gary, sorry for your loss, however we have not seen you get that excited about a wine in a long time which really put the thunder into todays show.
QOTD- Insaitable Chardonnay, cheap and easy to drink and I now look at chardonnay in a different light.

  38. October 1, 2007

    Dominus

Wowwww, gotta find some of that Boudreaux. First though, my team (Colts of course) went through some very hard years, 2-14 and the like and you need to stick with them though it is sooooo difficult. Maybe, just maybe, you and your team will suffer so much to choose high in the draft and pick up a franchise QB because we know, Chad ain’t cutting it. BTW, your reference to Raty Lewis . . . they lost to the lowly Browns yesterday. Not stellar in my book.

QOTD: Easy one, long story but I’ll keep it short. Nearing the end of a holiday party, I was tapped on the shoulder to join a group of wine aficionados, i.e. geeks to try some wines from the guests’ cellar. He brought up an ‘88 or ‘86 Dominus. I was awestruck as you can tell by my handle and my car’s vanity tag is Dominus. Nuff said.

Hang in there, great show and GO JETS!!!!!!

    Cheeers!

P.S. Hope the Pats lose tonight!

I want to bring WA State wines to Japan so this was the perfect episode Gary. 96+?! Amazing. Sometimes you get excited about a winery, region, or wine and are disappointed. Not this time.

QOTD – Transition Wines: Two come to mind. It was a 2002 Sebastiani Cabernet Sonoma County. I had two bottles, held on to one 1/2 a year and drank it and then drank the other one a year later and I was almost (almost…) speechless. Also I just drank a bottle from Cadecues, a small winery in Arizona…and it really made me think about wine and what I drink it. Loved it!

LET’S GO RED SOX – AL EAST CHAMPS

  41. October 1, 2007

    Dale Cruse

QOTD: The transition wine for me was the Chateau Lynch Bages 1985 that I won at auction recently. Now I GET why many people literally spend fortunes on vintage Bordeaux! I could spend a ridiculous amount of money to chase this flavor. In fact, it was so good I wrote about it on my blog: http://drinksareonme.net/?p=37

    #1 – Boudreaux & the Devil

Boudreaux died and was on his way down to Hell. In anticipation, the Devil turned up the thermostat to make it extra warm for Boudreaux. When Boudreaux arrived, the Devil asked, “Hey Boudreaux, how do you like the heat down here?”
Boudreaux says, “Mais, it’s just fine. It reminds me of Bayou PonPon in July.”

That made the Devil mad. That night, he turned the thermostat up all the way it could go. Man it was hot! When Boudreaux woke up, the Devil asked him, “NOW how do you like it down here?”

Boudreaux says, “Mais, it’s fine. It reminds me of August on Bayou Lafourche.”

As you might expect, that made the Devil all the more mad. Well, that night, he turned the thermostat down all the way it could go! The whole place frosted over. Icicles started forming from the rafters. When Boudreaux woke up, the Devil asked him, “How you like it NOW, Boudreaux?”

Boudreaux, shivering, through blue lips, says, “Mais cher, I’m one happy Cajun!”

The Devil was infuriated! He yelled, “What do you mean you’re one happy Cajun?!!”

Boudreaux, still shivering says, “The Jets done won the Superbowl!”

(Just a joke. I’m sure the Jets will recover from their slump)

I can understand having a Jets spit bucket — a perfect metaphor for what most of us have always thought about that team. If only you had a Yankee’s bucket — that would really be great to spit in, on and wherever!

Enjoyable episode. Would now like to see an episode comparing WA Cab blends in the 18-25$ range.

QOTD — Too many to recall, too long ago. However, most recent – ‘05 Belle Pente PN Reserve, underlining what a quality PN can bring.

QOTD: The Edmund’s St John “Rocks and Gravel” I had earlier this summer got me to discover a California producer that I really like, which is actually good for my overall wine experience. I got into wine a year and a half ago while living in The Old World, so my preference is decidedly Old World which has kind of kept me from getting into New World wines very much, but the Rocks and Gravel experience has started to change that.

QOTD–1997 Clos Pegase Cab at a wine slide show by Jan from the winery. It showed me what smooth could be. A close number two was a 1997 Chimney Rock Cab, tailgating before a Moody Blues concert, out of plastic cups. Mind blowingly awesome!

Great finish, with the understated “sig-line” sign off. And nice props to Ray Lewis, who despite the Ravens’ embarrassing chokerama yesterday (are you listening Dominus?) is STILL the closest thing to LT-hood or Butkus-hood this league has seen since LT.

QOTD: Rhone Rebel Cotes du Ventoux. Not an outstanding wine by any means (nowhere even close to the Mocali Brunello di Montalcino I had a few weeks ago), but it opened my eyes to the possibility of finding wines for under $7 dollars that aren’t garbage. I had thought my choice was to drink uninspiring (or outright terrible) swill at my price range, or always cringe when I spend at least $15 when I craved something good. With your help Gary, (and Cork’d), I’ve discovered I can have my cake and eat it too, even at my price range.

QoTD: On impulse, I bought a bottle of the A to Z Pinot Gris that you tasted the other day … and I loved it. Was it the greatest bottle of wine I’ve ever had? No. -but- It’s (literally) THE FIRST bottle of white I *ever* bought, and, more importantly, it’s the first white I’ve ever actually enjoyed drinking :-) Now, there’s a whole new “colour” to explore! Wow.

I’m going to YELL at you!!!!!!!!!!!! Way to go Num-Nuts!!!!!!!!!!! You just tripled the guy’s price so even if we were successful at getting on their mailing list, that probably leads to a waiting list, we wouldn’t be able to afford his wines anymore :)

    QOTD
    1. 1970 Charles Krug Vintage Selection Cabernet (Drank the last one in 1985. Still the best cabernet I’ve ever had)
    2. 1985 Lynch Bages I’ll have to agree with Mr. Cruse that that bottle opened my eyes to Bordeaux and I drank mine 10 yrs ago. Really looking forward to drinking my 1989 next year.
    3. 2005 Hewitson Private Cellar Shiraz/Mourvedre I drank one bottle and realized that in 5-7 yrs this could be phenominal. I realized that Australia can make some very serious wine.

Your sign off today was the hardest I’ve laughed at WLTV in a long time. Great stuff.

QOTD: 2003 Rubicon – now I will spring for some expensive wine now and then

  54. October 1, 2007

    MagnumGourmet

    Gary,

Way to go on the Boudreaux today. The 2003 is a great wine. If you ever get the chance you need to go visit Rob when you are in Washington. It is the only winery I know of that is completely off the grid and self powered. Check out “On Deadly Ground” with Steven Segal, they used Rob’s house next to the winery in many scenes.

QOTD – 2003 Boudreaux Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon “RESERVE” (From barrel sample). Rob only made 50 cases of the stuff. Got to try each of the barrels seperately and then he blended the two samples in my glass. It was a mind altering experience.

Dang, that 2003 Boudreaux doesn’t seem to be available ANYWHERE! There’s plenty of the ‘04 around though.

QOTD: The three wines that have shaped my perceptions more than any others are the 2003 Corte Riva Merlot, the 1999 Masi Serego Alighieri Armaron, and the 2004 Noblaie Chinon Rouge.

I had a really nice Montepulciano last night that had all the best elements of a good Syrah/Viognier. It was the 2004 Farnese Casale Vecchio Montepulciano d’ Abruzzo. Beccy and I sipped on it in pure ecstacy, and contemplated how much our ability to derive intense pleasure from a nice bottle of wine has advanced over the last year. Thanks, Gary!

All my football teams – college and NFL lost this weekend too! There’s always next week but we did win the President’s Cup in Golf.

  67. October 2, 2007

    onemore

QOTD: I tried many Rioja wines in a short time span that did little or nothing for me. I was honestly ready to give up on Rioja in general. “[expletive], can’t ANYone in this region produce a wine that’s not super-fruity/sugary and too bitterly tannic? Why the hell am I still trying to drink these? My palate is SO not amused, man.”

Then I tried the Gloria de Ostatu 2001 Rioja Alavesa (very recently, even; I wrote a Cork’d review for it). That wine has singlehandedly changed my mind about Rioja: maybe there are palate-pleasing wines from that region after all; maybe I can find more of them (hopefully cheaper); maybe I won’t give up on the region-in-general after all. I should order the 2000 for comparison’s sake while I seek out other Riojas that make me happy.

Jets: As I often say, I’m not a football fan so I’m unaffected by any team’s loss. But I know you fans hurt when your teams fail you, so: sorry, man.

Boudreaux: Yeah, like I’m gonna find any of that for sale after today… Ha.

Peanut Gallery: See, this is why I think you’d do pretty well with an interactive audience. Every now and then it’d be fun to see you pull a small (2 to 4 people, maybe) audience into your office, put ‘em on camera with you, and do a tasting with them. “One man show” indeed. :)

  68. October 2, 2007

    Clint W

Great episode. Glad that you are a believer in WA wines. I agree that the WA wines are blowing away CA, especially when you factor in the price. The Syrahs are huge, with great complexity, and they seem to get better year by year as the vineyards and winemakers get more established.

QOTD: 2001 Cougar Crest Syrah (Walla Walla). I had just moved to Seattle from the East Coast and have very little knowledge of WA wines. The Cougar Crest Syrah made me a believer. And they get better every year. They make a great Cab and a surprising Viognier also (plus a few others. Check it out if you can find it. The prices are going up as they rack up the awards.

QOTD: I think my transition wine was Red Zin from the Dry Creek area. I think my second transition was this year in Italy, with the Barolo, Barberesco, and of course Dolcetto rocking my world and opening my eyes to a whole “new” wine scene.

    Sorry your Jets lost.

    Dear Gary,

Keep in mind when making comments about Walla Walla, that most of the grape sources don’t come from Walla Walla and your favorite wine here was made about 2.5 hours northwest of Walla Walla. None of those grapes came from Walla Walla. Don’t get so caught up on just Walla Walla.

Bonny Doon’s Clos de Gilroy made me appreciate Grenache beyond the blending capabilities. That took me from California mountain wine to Cotes du Rhone’s rocky hills. Maybe more of a gateway wine.

I love the fact that you did some wines you don’t carry and were so honest. It would have been easy to downplay the significance of these wines to make wines you carry look better, but Gary V brings the thunder and doesn’t hold back! Just wish the US would lighten up the ridiculous state restrictions that keep us from getting wines from different parts of the country. MD is in the stone age.

QOTD: Really, any wine that changes my perception of a grape variety or wine in general would be considered a transition wine for me. Lots of them as I look back. One recent wine was the 2004 gravity hills zin. Opened my eyes to a different (less alcohol) style zin. Great wine.

Wow! The best WLTV ever (but perhaps I am biased.) ;-)

Actually, while I am tempted to say “I told you so, Gary”, I’ll just say “thanks for trying the wines”. Rob Newsom is indeed a very cool guy. You should get on his mailing list. And, yes, I do have his autograph. As for the Mark Ryan, the 2004 Dead Horse was much better than the 2003. But I only have 4 bottles of that so I had to keep them for myself.

QOTD: A transition wine for me was back when I had a Chateau Pavie (1986 vintage) for the first time (it was the first “grand cru”-type of Bordeaux that I ever had) and I became aware of a whole new level of wine quality.

Another great episode! Very entertaining. It’s fun to see Gary really digging a wine. I don’t think (in all my lurking) I’ve ever seen him throw a 96! I agree about Washington taking over. So many killer wines at, relatively, bargain prices. Very exciting.
QOTD: Most recently, ‘04 Finca Villa Villacreces from Ribera del Duero.
Others… Any vintage of ‘Clio’ from Jumilla, ‘04 Lascombes, ‘01 Fanti Fonstanti Brunello, ‘97 Simi Reserve Cab., Krug Brut Rose, A few of the seminal wine memories from the last few years.

    Cheers!

After this episode, I called the Boudreaux Winery and spoke with Rob Newsom. I told him of the review and how excited you were about his Cab. He had not seen the blog, but promised to watch after hanging up with me…..He is very humble and easygoing. I ordered a case. He still has about 75 left, but they are disappearing quickly.

Enough on that subject; nice show and it’s good to have solid suggestions when sampling smaller wine producers within the US. If it wasn’t for this show I wouldn’t have attempted to try some of these wines. I just order some and I’m looking foward to when they arrive at my door step. Thx Gary & JayZee

QOTD: Most recent transition wine has been a Malbec in the Spring of ‘07.

    Treegs,

I have had the 2004 Cab about seven times now. The ‘04 is definitely a different beast than the ‘03. The ‘04 is a bit bigger of a wine. I have preferred the ‘03 so far, but I also think that the ‘04 is still a bit young. I like the ‘04 with about a two hour decant, it really opens it up. Both vintages are worthy of a purchase, but I would suggest letting the ‘04 sit in the bottle for another 6 months to a year before you start diving in.

  98. October 2, 2007

    Snkypete

Rob was kind enough to return my call earlier today as well – stated that the ‘03 has been gone for roughly 6 months….so I’m interested in the post stating there are 75 cases left. ‘04 perhaps? His review of the ‘04 is nearly identical to MagnumGourmet’s. I’d like to pick some up but would prefer giving the order to WL (hint).

I called roughly 2 dozen stores in WA today and all only had the ‘04. He still hadn’t watched the video but stated it was next on his list – something about ‘trying to make wine but the phone won’t stop ringing for the last two days’ :)

I mentioned a poster suggested GV trying the ‘04 and hinted he should send Gary a bottle to try.

    Hi Gary,
Long-time Lurker here…I really enjoy you’re show and think you’re doing a great service by getting people talking about wines in new and different ways.

Getting into the mix on the QOTD-I’d been primarily a red wine drinker until I had a bottle of Zilliken’s 2005 Butterfly Riesling. It was the first white wine I’d had that delivered really good complexity, acidity, and interesting flavors, without getting too full-bodied on me. So that’s my 2 cents there.

As for the Jets loss, I 100% feel your pain, as I’m stuck watching the downward spiral of the Chicago Bears.

    Keep up the good work!

I agree, I have been looking for two days now to figure out where to buy the 2003 and no one has it. I’d LOVE to know if the 2004 is at equal standing to the 2003. Hint Hint. Don’t you just hate when a great one is gone?

I’m so interested in the last wine now! I’m glad you could enjoy something, even in the face of the Jets loss!

QOTD: I had my transition wine last Friday at a wine tasting at work. It was a 2005 Finca Sandoval from Spain. Everyone was raving about it that night, and by the time I tasted it, I was amazed at the silkiness and the flavor. So I ended up buying a bottle.

    Mason

So sorry about the Jets loss, Gary. As you know, I have no team as “my team” in the NFL, so I pull for your Jets, and I am sad for you. Anyway, why are Washington State wines so dang hard to get? My favorite shop around town only carries a few different producers in that state in the higher end. Anyway, I want some of that Boudreaux, man!

QOTD: I imagine that the only wine I’ve had that blew me away, or got me to delve more heavily into a region was Graham’s Six Grapes Reserve Port. I really found my winner there in the Douro valley.

Walla Walla is that bridge connecting Napa and Bordeaux. You have red twizzler on one side of the bridge; you have sweat and funk on the other side, and then you have that wonderful bridge that brings them all together, seamlessly. It’s a beautiful bridge, lots of structure, lots of grace. Don’t fear the 100 points, come on, Reagan and Gorby, that’s a 100 point match up if I ever saw one.

QOTD: A wine that I had at work recently: good balance of new and old world, as Spain is doing so well in many cases these days: Orsus Orcella (Tempranillo / Garnacha).

Washington bringing it nice.QOTD I had a Gwertztraminer about 4 months ago that changed my whole perception on white wines.Prior to the Hook & Ladder Gwertz I realy didn’t drink or purchase or even give many white wines a chance. But ever since I would say I’ve purchased as many,if not more whites than reds. Gwertz, P.G., Chards, Albarino, Sancere etc. etc. I’m buying ,drinking, and enjoying them. So my transition wine wasn’t opening my eyes to a different region it openend my eyes to whites. Thanks Gary and WLTV crew.

I’m a huge fan of Boudreaux and the winery itself is only 40 minutes or so from my house (it’s actually a pretty remote location for a winery). There are quite a few other wineries from our region that are making incredible wines like the Boudreaux Cab. And Rob Newsom’s other releases are great as well. He’s got one of the best Merlots I’ve had in some time. I think the biggest struggle the wineries around here have is getting their great products to the people who want them, outside of Washington State that is :) In my humble opinion, we have some of the best wine in the world around these parts! Not a bad place for a wine tour, if you’re looking to get away from high prices and crowds.

Disclaimer: I work for a company that builds software for a local outfit trying to brand and sell great Washington Wines like the Boudreaux Cab (so I’m a little biased).

    Hey GV-

I feel for you and the Jets. I know you’re no fan of the fantasy football thing, but your #87 has been treating me right the past couple of weeks.

I feel like a rock star now. I have the Rob Newsom’s business card sitting in my car right now. I feel so special. And again…go WA state! It makes me proud to be a Seahawks fan all over again.

    Love & Peace.

  119. October 4, 2007

    Mr. Ambassador

I’m really excited that you had the opportunity to sample some of the Mark Ryan and Boudreaux wines. I’ve sampled the “Dead Horse” (I understand that it’s a French interpretation of the “Horse Heaven” region from which these grapes are sourced); I have yet to try the “Long Haul”. I was really taken with the Boudreaux and purchased several bottles for the wine-rack after I first sampled it a year ago (one of the benefits of living here in Washington State)! When I first discovered the Boudreaux I was shopping for some of the sought-after Leonetti wines and after sampling the Boudreaux I can attest that it’s a much better value for the price; when the merchants here do carry the Leonetti it’s about $85.00 per bottle (Cabernet or Merlot, not the reserve), whereas the Boudreaux is half that and packs a comparable punch. As with most of these culty-wines, generally a better deal if you can source directly from the winery so I’m patiently waiting for my name to pop-up on the allocation lists…

If you’re looking to sample a nice value-priced wine from Washington the “Whitestone” Winery is producing some intriguing reds; again, rather limited release but a great value. Hopefully you’ll get the chance to sample some soon!

    Gary,

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the 2003 Boudreaux but have ordered the 04 given the strong endorsement. The winery said that they are having to delay shipping because they ran out of wine boxes after the huge surge in orders after your endorsement.

I’m a first time commenter and just started watching the podcasts a few weeks ago. I’m hooked. So much for my resolution to buy less wine…

We have the 2004 Boudreaux Cab. and 2004 Merlot (also excellent) available at lovewashingtonwine.com We have plenty of the Cab. in stock and ready for shipment! I am going up to chat with Rob tonight to congratulate him on his well-deserved publicity. Another great wine from Washington State, which also happens to be a Cab. is the 2004 Horan Estates Cab. I am glad Washington Wines are starting to get some recognition!

I would love to go visit Boudreaux, its too bad that it is so remote; accessibility is definitely one advantage that Napa and Sonoma have over Washington’s wine regions.

QOTD: Drinking the Pierre Sparr Gewurztraminer Reserve was the first time that I had a new varietal and totally loved it. It has definitely made me feel more comfortable with trying wines I haven’t heard of before.

Since this episode was about Washington wines, I though that I would give you my transition wine for that state. I tried a wine called Matthews in 2003, this was ther high-end wine (not the “Claret”). It was the 2000 and is a Bordeaux blend. It convinced me that WA state had some great wines. I have not had a bottle since because this wine is going to last and definitely change with age.

After watching this episode I tried to find the 2003 Boudreaux Cab. with no luck. I then found a comment posted by Rebecca – “We have the 2004 Boudreaux Cab. and 2004 Merlot (also excellent) available at lovewashingtonwine.com We have plenty of the Cab. in stock and ready for shipment!”

I ordered 3 bottles of the 2004 Cab and it was one of the finest bottles of wine I’ve ever had and it was $40 US at lovewashingtonwine.com. The web site was easy to use and the shipment arrived promptly. I recommend this site. I just ordered a case from them of the 2004 Boudreaux Cab. It’s great.

This was the episode that hooked me on Gary’s show. I googled Boudreaux and what do you know, when I emailed Rob Newsome, the winemaker, he emailed me right back, and I picked up three of the 04 cab and three of the 04 merlot. For any of you Napa Cab fans, save your money and get two or three to one at the same or better quality (if you can even get any allocation from Napa of the “good stuff”) and contact Rob. In two to three years, you will be glad that you are already on his list. Don’t worry about the price or a bargain–this is a bargain at the winery price.

Being from Washington Im really glad the wines overall brought the thunder today. I dont think Ive ever seen you this excited overall on a show following a Jets loss. I when I saw they were going to be Washington wines following a Jets loss I was growning thinking you were going to rip them. Glad some wines from the area could cheep you up somewhat after that game. Cheers to you, Gary. QOTD: A Tokaji. I have had wine lots of times in the past, but until about a year ago hadnt started to collect them or taste them on a regular basis. Tasting my first Tokaji blew my doors off to how good wine could really be.

As a red wine drinker, I had all but lost faith in the products of The U.S. Domestic wine just didn’t appeal to me all that much; however, I just want to send out my thanks to Gary for restoring my faith in American producers. This episode made me more excited than any other, and I cannot wait to start exploring the Washington wine scene.
