QOTD: 2001 Royal Tokaji 5 puttonyos, a 2006 Dr Loosen Beerenauslese, and a 2006 Villa Maria Sav Blanc. They just happened to be the last three wines Ive drank, and I enjoyed all three of them. Works for me.

    Three favorite wines:

    - Chateau Cheval Blanc (St. Emilion) - had a bottle of 1988 once and it blew my doors off

    - Elderton Command Shiraz (Barossa Valley) - like drinking jam

    - Leewin Artist Series Chardonnay (Margaret River) - very Burgundian (had to throw in a white)

Not every day drinkin’, but good nonetheless!

Number one right now has to be the Toad Hollow Erik’s the Red blend. It is our “go to” wine for about $12. Put it up against the $30 2003 Estancia Meritage this past weekend and it blew it away. Also worth mentioning, Bridlewood 2005 Reserve Viognier- found it on sale at our local grocery. Really nice buy for $14. Also enjoying the Trevor Jones Tawny “Jonesy” port right now.

    OK…NEWB lurker here..wanting some attention.

2003 Domaine Richaud, Les Estrambords…I like to eat those fresh organic carrots then give myself an after shave slap in the face before doing the GV “Bite the Wine(vin)” taste test.

I may be odd…which is normal in Seattle(rain monster) but hey..carrot palate stained breath is truly a new way to drink wine. I started off by eating carrots and then tasting beer. I knew I was onto something.

Sorta like..farmer Joe meets Francois in a futuristic organic Starbucks.

(BTW..thats the buzz here in Seattle) Organic wine coffee bars..Late Nite!!!!

Not that I am excited..I am just in the KNOW. So open all the veggie late night bars serving bean/grape fusions as you can. It is a whole extract Starbuck culture I wish them not to capitalize on so…..

Taste my 2003 Les Estrambords and help me define an exit strategy on this evasive wine.

    QOTD? Lurker Style? You Ask?

    Ok…Domaine Richaud 2003 Les Estrambords

I have about 176 bones into this wine.

    I taste it..I love..try it again..I hate it.

Try again and find myself in the middle.

    What do I do?

I cannot find ratings on it…in English.

Who can I turn too? You GV?

Can you decipher this wine for me? or for us?

I know I am not the only one sniffy sniffing 2003 Les Estrambords

I agree alot with your nose and palate..your like some psycho unknown twin on the net.

Anyways…Other lurkers please rate..or GV if you have time Please rate.

Otherwise my fantasy and exile are doomed in my constant up and down purchase of this wine.

Thanx a million for us Grape Suckas in Seattle!!

    Hi,

New to the show, thank you for doing this, Gary !!!

    Recent favorites:

2003 Blackstone Sonoma County Merlot — after drinking a small glass with dinner nearly every day from this bottle, and refridgerating it, it actually tasted even better over a week later. I was thus very fortunate to acquire nearly a case of this at $3 / bottle !! and that I can sit on these for at least another 4-5 years !!!

2003 Grgich Cabernet Sauvignon — one of my favorite wines tasted last night at a huge wine tasting, particularly after my pallet was rather shot when I finally made my way to it.

2004 Chalone Estate-bottled Pinot Noir — another that is young and fine, thus sitting on several bottles of it for 3-4 years.

2004 Belle Glos Cark & Telephone Pinot Noir — actually, although I have a few bottles of this, I have not tasted this since last year’s huge wine tasting. It was my favorite wine at that event.

2002 Ferrari-Carano Cabernet Sauvignon — one of the first wines that really got me into wine. Had another bottle recently, and very glad to be sitting on a few more. Same goes with the merlot and Siena.

2004 Livio Felluga Pinot Grigio — I only had one bottle in storage, and sort of wished I sat on it for a few more years, as it too developed over a week, and very nicely at that !

Great show; I’d love to find a bottle of that Rose tonight…maybe I’ll get lucky at the wine shop.

    Recent favorites:

    1. Collina Serragrilli Barolo “La Tur” 2001
    2. Casisano Colombaio Brunello di Montalcino 2001
    3. Fattoria La Ripa Chianti Classico Riserva 2000

I’m going to venture outside of Italy tonight; your Chateauneuf du Pape episode has me craving some Rhone.

QOTD - I am drinking a wines from all over the world. I get mixed cases from local wine shops and ask for suggestions on good value wines. Recently they have tended to be from Spain and South America.

QOTD: BioFach 2007 Japan, first Organic Wine Pavilion in it’s history. SERIOUS THUNDER.
    Three favorite of the show:
Biohof Pratcsh Baron: smells like spicy eggnog, very good Blauer Portugieser!!! Ever heard of that grape?

Domeco D Jaranta Rioja 200? (sorry my notes from the expo are chicken scratch) think it’s a 2004 or 5 or 6

Muster, from Asteria (Austria Slovenia border) Sauvignon Blanc that smells like paprika, very interesting, very solid and good.

SO many good wines, over 60 producers showing over 200 wines. Can you say palate fatigue for two days straight???!!!

QOTD: For a high end wine (over $90) I would have to say, Beringer Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon.
For an under $15 bottle I would say 2005 Cartlidge & Browne Pinot Noir.

    Current top three? Hhhuummm…..

Kind of a no brainer but I opend the 1# 02 Octavius….and now I know what you mean by a jolly rancher covered in pepper….in the best way. #2 05 bridlewood viognier reserve not the most explosive viognier I’ve ever had but WA has been over oaking their viognier’s lately and this was balanced. And #3 04 amavi cab. Tried it and it was a bit of a fruit bomb… just too much. I re bottled half of it and had it a month later……YUM!! So much more complexed the fruit mellowed out and there were spices and it was good…real good!!

Here’s the one bad thing about getting married: you feel like you have to finish the leftover Wedding Wine before spending a dime on anything else! I know I really LIKED the Step Rd, but once we polish off that last bottle, I’ll probably never want another…. Yes, I realize I could have worse problems.

QOTD: 3 favorite wines? I don’t think I have 3 favorites, and the wine I want to drink would depend on my mood, or how I’m feeling for the day. Some of ones I’m enjoying more often than others: 2006 LaVelle Riesling, 2006 Sokol Blosser Rose, 2005 Witness Tree Pinot Noir
