    Dr T from N. Carolina

From Hurricane Katrina through just this past month, my ‘table wine’ drinking was almost entirely nice, but not really memorable. The two exceptions were dessert wines saved, which I enjoyed last winter and early spring:

Warre’s 1976 Colheita (Reserve Tawny), bottled in 1996, a really lovely tawny
    Royal Tokaji 1993 Tokaji (6 Put.s)

Way to hold off on the 2004 Bordeaux love until I had a chance to grab a few. Attaboy.

You know what sounds interesting for Thanksgiving, is that orange ten year old Lopez de Heredia rose. Got some? Anyone know where I can find some of that for an amputation-free price in downtown Chicago?

Speaking of which, on my last roadtrip I picked up some Monbazillac … I was thinking it was a southern dessert wine but I guess it’s more a white Bordeaux thing.

    Recent highlights:

2005 St Cosme Deux Albion Cotes du Rhone
    2004 Librandi Ciro Rosso (!)
2001 Baron de Ley Rioja (incredible after a few days in the fridge)
2000 Duckhorn Three Palms Merlot (surprisingly quiet & restrained, and it’s f—ing merlot!)
2006 Ruffino Orvieto (surprisingly good sub-$10 white)

Great show, Gary! I want to find that last one, for sure. Sounds like something I would love.

QOTD: Frogtown Cellars’ Testimony, we opened this yesterday and I had forgotten how much I like it and a local vinyard. OVZ from Lodi – Oakridge Winery – an excellent Zin and Santa Ema Reserve Merlot from Chile – very chocolatey (don’t know how to spell that).

Great episode, GaryV! Love to see that exUUUUUberance you had goin’ on! (make sure you pronounce every ‘u’.)

QOTD: My favorite 3 wines I’ve had recently…..
    1) ‘Mocali’ Brunello di Montalcino (can’t remember the year, but thinking it might have been 2001). WOW. I was stunned. (Way out of my price range; this was a treat from my brother-in-law.)
    2) Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel – I’d had very little exposure to Zins previously, but this wine single-handedly may have gotten me started on a new Zinfandel obsession. Now, I want to try every last Zin out there, and primitivos too.
    3) Castano Hecula – Perhaps my favorite casual (price-point) drinking wine. I am in love. No, I am in lust. OMG, Hecula, where have you been all my life? Marry me!

NOW THAT IS A THUNDER SHOW!!!!! Wow, I will be showing this at my dinner party this Saturday night since it was sooooo exciting and informative. I just hope everything isn’t sold out tonight so I can showcase these wines on Sat.

    QOTD
    My Tremendous Trio
    1. 1988 Dominus (doesn’t matter which vintage actually)
    2. 1985 Opus One
    3. Any good German Riesling or Oregon Pinot (Cristom comes to mind)

    Cheers!

    P.S. Go Tribe!

It never fails when I watch the show that I picture sweet, patient Mrs. Vaynerchuk, Gary’s Mom, and how she must have struggled to keep up with young Gary, the Human Triple Espresso.
QOTD: We were stationed in Germany off and on for 10 years, so German Rieslings major big in my world, a nice German Sekt also lovely and for some reason I always have a couple bottles of Concannon Petite Syrah about. I’m a simple girl, who needs yet another wine refrigerator.

QOTD: 1. Jackson Triggs 2005 Ice Wine (Can you do another ice wine show???); 2. Benton Lane 2005 Pinot Noir; 3. Baron Lafite Rothschild Pauillac Reserve Speciale(2003).

Lurker here, love the show and I’m loving wine more all the time:

    Current favs-

Cheap wine: 2005 La Vieille Ferme Côtes du Ventoux 7 bones at the local wine shop

Expensive wine: My favorite local winery Koenig 2003 Cuvee Alden 50 US dollars, which I can’t afford, but was tasting at Koenig this weekend (again) and talked the wife into buying a bottle

Sparkler: In memory of the late Dr. Manz whom owned a winery in Spokane, WA, he recently passed away and made the first sparkler I really liked: Mountain Dome Brut

Thanks for a great show Gary!

oooh, i agree with Dr Frank’s Rkatsiteli, also recently experieced Lamoreux Landing Dry Riesling and Silver Springs’ Tri-Dition (i’m way too geographically close to the Finger Lakes). Silver Springs also has a wine video blog that i just noticed today.

Good episode. Nice to see some excitement for once. Especially after the lackluster $7 wines.
QOTD – 2000 Lynch Bages (or any vintage of LB) – cedar and lead pencils with black fruits. Yum.
2004 Roar Santa Lucia Syrah. Lots going on.
    2004 Kistler Sonoma Pinot.
Three wines I have had recently that rocked my boat.

Have had the pink wines and while I have confidence in my manhood to drink the pink, I have not found any one that I would put as a favorite.
