Question for you: why do you always use the same glass even when switching from a rose to a red to a dessert wine? Does it really matter what glass you’re tasting out of? As far as the QotD, I’m a poor, poor graduate student in Indiana so the wines I usually rock are cheap and I’d be embarrassed to admit to you what I drink. However, my two favorites right now are 1. 2004 Cline Cool Climate Syrah and 2. Consilience Zinfandel Port out of Santa Barbara. Word.

I had an awful Sangiovese last night, a wine which I normally wouldn’t try. It was a WA state 2002 vintage by, well I won’t mention the producer, but it had to do with a Fox. Anyway, it was only $11 so it wasn’t a total loss. I decided to down the whole bottle anyway. Naturally I awoke with a headache. But then I moseyed on over to WLTV and it made me glad that I’m now drinking a wider variety wines. I love this show Gary! Keep on inspiring.

Steller episode. Interesting that you went with the Rose.

Question for you. When are you going to talk more about the Vayniac 2007 Napa Cab ordeal?

Even if these had not been your Fav3, this would have been a cool show because of the variety in the wines: price, type & color!

QOTD: My favorite 3 recently have been Klinkerbrick Lodi Zinfandel, Cote Rotie Guigal, & Four Vines Naked Chardonnay.

One of my recent faves that I have had recently…

2004 Brancaia Traia – Super Tuscan Wine… amazing value, bold and very rounded finish.

9 days til the Jets come to the Jungle baby…. WHO DEY!

GV…Come to the ‘Nati and do a taping with the Vayniacs that tailgate WLTV style!

    Mr. Ambassador

It’s nice to see you get the chance to both treat yourself and answer some e-mail questions today.

QOTD – Current “special dinner/event” favorites include: Ash Hollow 2002 Estate Blend (Walla Walla, WA); Dusted Valley Vintners, H3 Horse Heaven Hills Syrah (WA); Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc (New Zealand). You already sampled the Boudreaux so you know what that’s about – typically tops the list of fav’s though… Similar to the Leonetti (and with Chris and Gary Figgins as friends/mentors that’s expected), but at half the price!

Gary – Great show! Wish I’d discovered it long ago.

QOTD: Leonetti Cellar (they’re all delicious)
    Vincent Arroyo Petit Syrah
Rex Goliath Cabernet(a 47 lb Rooster? Are you kidding?…But really, for $6 at Safeway, it’s one of my inexpensive standby wines)
    Other? Whatever I’m drinking tonight.

Best white wine I ever tasted: 2000 Corton Charlemagne Bonneau Martrey — I’d mortgage my house to get a case of it. Can you get it for me?

  22. October 11, 2007

    Jose

Hey GV! You know I love the show… You’ve probably already address this question 10,000 times, but how do we find the wines that you introduce? You make my mouth water, but google sucks for this! You should start a store in my opinion!!! You’re the man. Keep up the good wine!

QOTD: Favorite wines that I have more of: Ridge Montebello (1999 and 2000), we actually got tired of this at a wine dinner – 3 vintages served; too much of a good thing for us.
2003 Smith and Hook Grand Reserve Santa Lucia Highlands Cabernet Sauvignon – lots of fruit,
2006 Black Pig Albarino – Gary will have to tell us more about his involvement with it. Very different, refreshing white. I like the frizzante.
I think this counts as a good deed: I didn’t complain that much when my modem went down for 2 days. Not sure my husband would agree.

QOTD: How about the three wines from the super tasting I absolutely loved and am going to buy up. Thats much more interesting .
    1. Yves Cuilleron Saint Joseph Blanc “Lombard” 06 (simply amazing. I’m going to search out his condrieu’s. I don’t see how they could actually be better)
    2. Demeter Tokaji Furmint “V” Vareschilo (who knew a dry Tokaji existed, much less could be this good!”
    3. Mas de Can Blau (a 35 dollar wine that was tasted in between 5 $100 dollar wines, and it was EVERYBIT as good)

  25. October 11, 2007

    QOTD -

If I was forced to pick 3 right now, I am feeling like some good , well balanced fruit bombs ….

    1) 2003 Wild Hog Estate Zin (Sonoma )
    2) 2005 Villa Creek Mas de Maha, Tempranillo 65, Grenache 25, Mourvedre 15 (Paso Robles)
    3) 2003 Belle Glos Pinot Noir, Clarke & Telephone vineyard (Santa Maria Valley)

… but that’s just the mood I’m in right now
