Gavi is a great food wine when it is allowed to exhibit the freshness and clean taste of the fruit without trying to overpower the palate with a lot oak and crap that is put on a a lot of white wines these days. Try a taste of Picollo Ernesto Gavi di Gavi 2006, beautiful freshness, a refreshing taste of citrus and so clean you could use it as mouthwash. At 12.5 percent alcohol, it doesn't deaden the palate, but stimulates it. Food actually tastes better when you wake up your palate with this wine between bites of food. It's not the kind of wine you use to impress your wine geek wannabe friends with, it's too subtle for that, they won't get it. It's not a "big wine", it's just delicious and the perfect accompaniment to seafood dishes, or a sipper to have with appetizers on the patio on a warm summer day. Works as a fantastic wine to take to the beach. There are two problems I have had personally with this wine, one, there can be a lot of bottle variation with this wine cause it's fairly delicate, maybe a few bad corks in the mix, the other is that it goes down so easy, you may be tempted to drink the whole bottle yourself without realizing it. Not the worst problem in the world in my opinion! As described in the video tasting, you have to get past the ocean of mediocre wines to find the good ones. A plus, this wine is available at 14-15 a bottle, so the good ones don't necessarily cost a lot more!
