Nice episode. Lodi dose some intersting things with Iberian varieties. Even central coast producres like Baretto Cellars in Paso Robles source these grapes from Lodi. These wines are considerably different from their orld world counter parts – more honeyed and definitely softer and with lower acids. Still intersting and worth trying.

As for the QOTD: I can’t help but engage in some self-promotion and say that the coolest thing I have seen on the web is the willingness of winemakers to explore alterantives in winemaking by participating in a project I stated called project23 (www.23degreeswine.com)

  32. November 7, 2007

The problem with Albarino you reviewed is apparently the bottle only has one glass worth of wine in it. That just won’t do.

    Lindsay

I swear, the next time you pour out almost an ENTIRE BOTTLE OF WINE, I am going to hunt you down and make you drink that dump bucket. ARG!

I’m just jealous. I can’t afford much wine (grad school poor) so when you dump it out it’s PAINFUL.

Its a animated video blog about video games. there are about a dozen episodes, each about 4 minutes long.

Also, I was given a bottle of wine from the wine cellar at work (the label was ruined) for my birthday from my boss. I have been decanting it for a couple hours and will enjoy at dinner tonight.

Oh lord, stuck in Lodi again…

I tried one Albarino, and liked it. It reminded me of a NZ Sauvignon Blanc, with a little appley and grassyness, but a much milder, lemony finish. (But I tasted it at my Dad’s house, on day 2 after opening, so I really don’t believe I have much Albarino experience yet.)

By the way, if you want people to go to TheWineSpies.com instead of winespies.com (domainer page), might want to change the Episode #346 title from “winespies” to “thewinespies”. Just a suggestion. I’ll check out thewinespies.

Thanks for going more ‘open source’ with your recs this week. Introduces an interesting new dynamic, and definitely helps quiet the people who keep whining about bias.

I’m just in that change process Gary! The number of my “wine” friends is increasing (and hey, am just 29!), doing minimum one private winetasting a week… Wow – if someone told me that 2-3 years ago – no way!

QOTD: This is really rocking! One of the best things I’ve seen on the Internet so far:

    TINMAN

yet another great episode. QOTD: In the last 24 hours, I haven’t been on the web all that much, so the coolest thing in the last 24hours…. was this show. Lame response, I know, but the TRUTH.

Now, how about I twist the QOTD a bit. The coolest thing THAT HAS HAPPENED TO ME in the last 24 hours, is I just received my 2 cases of wine from YOU, that you gave me free shipping on. YOUUUUUUUUU ROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOCK!

I used to think, what did people do at work when they didn’t feel like working before the Internet? Then I thought, how did cube-bound subalterns endure our particular trials of the box without You Tube?!!

Click below to see a scene from Donnie Darko in which Donnie Darko has an intimate and deep conversation with Frank, a demonic rabbit. See a clip of a film filming a scene from Evil Dead. I like how the screen looks kind of wonky. That particular moment always moves me. After you watch it, go online and buy the DVD of Donnie Darko because a mere rental won’t sate your rabid post-Donnie Darko desire to see it fifty more times in a row and by that time all the late fees would easily add up to the 9.99 price tag for the original cut, which is better than the director’s cut, more minimal, better choice of music, etc. And, please note that in the opening scene of Donnie Darko, Donnie Darko’s family is drinking red wine with pizza.

Answering the question of the day – May I recommend threadbanger.com?

And – this is gonna sound completely silly, but since I just rented the DVD – Gary, you TOTALLY!!! just remind me of Remy the Rat in “Ratatouille.” If you haven’t seen it yet, you should. The bonus is that they name-check two high price point exclusive wines, and they animated the wine correctly (the way it swirls in the glass n’ stuff). Great show!

Not much time for fun internet links right now: work, Wine Library TV and holiday shopping.

QOTD: After I read all the posts to this episode, I’m sure I’ll find a lot of cool stuff. For me personally, the last 24 hours has not turned up anything hot on the internet, unless you like inexpensive, good wine:

Ok so Wine Spies doesn’t ship to either RI or WI!!!! What’s a girl to do. And nice pour, I was like “oh no, hes gonna stop soon…soon…soon. Nope, he filled the entire bottle into his big ass glass!” I need to get me one of those (already got 8 wineglasses, but you know, the big ass glass is just awesome)!

Holy crap, you fit the whole darn bottle in that glass?!? That’s my kinda glass. I was able to get a bottle of white wine (Alianca) into a army-style canister I got from an army surplus store near my home. It’s surprising sometime how deceiving bottle shapes are :) .

Kudos to The Wine Spy AND Wine Library for seeing the benefits of cross-promoting competitors. That’s what the web is all about!

gary, my mom recently spilled an entire glass of wine (she wouldn’t tell me what kind) on her laptop. she was advised to turn it off, take out the hard drive and hose it off. yeah, thats right, she was told to take it out to the backyard and hose it down. so she did, she hosed it off, took a hairdryer to it, poured some rubbing alcohol on it and more hair dryer, put it all back together, crossed her fingers and hit the power…it worked! the damn thing worked great…for about two weeks and then took a piss, but it did work for a while, thought it was a good story considering your mishap with your new computer.
anyways, love the show, big fan, wish i’d found out about you sooner, i want a wrist band, first time commenter, no longer a squater, thanks and keep it up.
