Solid show. I love both pomegranates and dessert wine, so the last selection intrigues me, despite the tepid review. Not gonna head out to get it tomorrow or anything, but I’ll keep it on background, and see what happens.

I’ll wish you happy birthday in a couple years. And maybe someday I’ll catch up with all the back episodes.

QOTD: Quite possibly you sold your sold to the devil. But since I dont think it was that, it has to be your charm and your actual love for us and wine. Most people can sense phonies, and you are clearly not one of those.

    QOTD: wasn’t luck Gary,

How did you get so lucky? Simple equation: palate + personality.

Also, you have the integrity to call it like you see it, come what may.

Also, you make fun of yourself, which is ingratiating.

And fortunately, there is no danger you will run out of wines to review.

    Thanks.

Happy Birthday and thanks for checking out the Rimon, even if it is a Pomegranate “wine”
Israeli wines are an important part of changing the wine world for the better, as there are tons and tons of great Israeli wines — most not even available yet in the US (Gary, want to change that?)

I will be blogging this episode and more about Israeli wines (including the Israeli Gamay Noveau releases) on my Israel wine blog @ http://israelwine.wordpress.com

QOTD: Right guy, right place, right time.

Not sure what’s up with St. Clement these days since their wines run so hot and cold depending on the drinker. I suspect–without any evidence mind you (don’t sue me, winery guys!)–that they might have a little TCA or similar thing going on and that the super-tasters like Gary pick up on that. What I can say for now is something I’ve said before: I’ve never tasted a wine that opened up after several hours like the Oroppas has/can. If you’re patient (decant at noon, drink after 6:00), the Oroppas can be one of the absolute best $40-50 cabs coming out of Cali. The little brother you tasted ain’t bad either. From my experience, it’s just that St. Clement needs hours and hours to breath.

    Happy Anniversary!

QOTD: Certainly you were lucky to be born into a strong family, but I would say hard work, sense of humor and a GREAT nose, palate and memory for what you’ve experienced before has more to do with it.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BIG G. AND LIZZIE!!
    HAPPY B-DAY, SIR!

QOTD: For sharing your appreciation for and knowledge of vino with us while calling-out all of the pretentious, snobby “wine connoisseurs” who have given wine such an unapproachable, elitist reputation in the U.S. For giving to the Vayner Nation 5 times per week (and then some with the free shwag) and even allowing us to be a part of our own wine. For giving us your opinion, and then telling us to trust our own palates over anything even you say about a wine. For telling us to eat butter-covered lemons, currants, “granata,” black raspberries, cloves (…but DON’T bite them!) For being real, and for being you… whether anyone else likes it or not. Thanks for everything, as always, happy birthday, and cheers.

Belated congrats on your 3rd Anny. We celebrated our Forty-third last month, visiting the Naramata Heritage Inn at the tail-end of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival. On our third we were driving through the mayhem of pre-Olympic construction in Munich, looking for the HofBrauHaus.

Thanks for the e-mail, Gary. Attention to detail is often a key to “good luck”.
