Happy anniversary and Happy Birthday. I’m big on making charitable contributions for people’s birthdays. What are you favorite charities GV? Disappointing on the Rochiloli. I’ve had some really good bottles of their Chardonnay.

QOTD- Business saavy and an inspiring personality. Without that you never would of been the 4th most popular wine video blog that airs for more than 9 minutes a day!

  39. November 13, 2007

    DaveyDonut

Gary, do a bottle shock episode! In fact, I may do one by myself if you don’t. :-) I’ve wondered if bottle shock is true for some time, and I just don’t know… but I’m always paranoid about trying bottles that just arrive, and usually wait a few weeks to a month before trying a good bottle.. of course, by the time I do try it the online store is sold out!

Anyway, the episode: Get a couple bottles of wine off the shelf that you’ve had for a while. Set one aside, and mail the other one to me in Portland, Oregon (can’t get much farther away and still be in the US!). When I get it, I’ll mail it right back to you, and you could do an episode the next day comparing the two wines (BLIND!). Sound good? I think so…

    Happy Anniversary!

QOTD – not sure if its luck… i think some good exposure (conan or time) and word of mouth get people here, while your passion, honesty, knowledge, and personality keep people coming back. keep it up!

Happy Anniversary, Mr. and Mrs. Vaynerchuk. May today be one magical day to remember for years to come!

QotD: The energy you and your staff put forth in whatever you do attracts the following:

    - people who draw inspiration from it
    - people who share in it
    - people who encourage it with conviction and justification
    - people who simply relish in the amusement it provides
    - people who seek to share it with others

If you pause to consider for a moment, each one of the Vayniacs (and even we lurkers) falls into one of these categories.

  42. November 13, 2007

    Dulamae

    Happy Anniversary!

QOTD: You educate, you entertain, you amuse and you make me feel like being nicer to people. I wouldn’t call it luck, you provide something unique that I know I appreciate.

happy anv. GV. irony that my wife and I tried this wine on our 3rd year anv. at Rochioli. has been one of our very favs. until this year. I agree with you 100% on your score of 83. We have moved on from Roch. to another Russian river wine and that is SIMI. Very good for 20 bones and you can get it at Costco…what a deal, also it has more of the characteristics that I remember of my earlier years of Roch. Drink on man….here’s to you from Salem, Oregon

QOTD: I don’t know how you got so lucky, but I consider myself lucky to find you back in early ‘06 on the net when I was just deciding to learn about wine. Had I not found you and found some snotty wine site instead, I probably would not be the wine fanatic that I am today. By the way, you could put that on a bumper sticker: “Product of WLTV.”

Happy A-day and happy B-day Garry (well, and Lizzie).

We now know your plans for A-day and B-day, what are your plans for D-Day?

QOD: Well, I guess it is very much because of who you are and how much you bring into what you do. Keep doing what you like.

About the Rimon, I must say that I tryied it and was very taken back by it. When I saw you pull air into it while tasting, I think I know exactly how you felt. To me it was not plesent, and I love pomegranate (Rimon, in Hebrew, BTW) and fresh pomegranate juice.

    Hi Gary,

the early word coming in from Sonoma is that 2006 was a VERY difficult year to make a decent Chardonnay. Your idea of coming back to Rochioli next year is a good one. Try putting it up against a Chasseur and some other up and coming Sonoma producers (all with 2007 product).

Happy Anniversary and Birthday! (Do you want me to sing to you? You’ll have to call me for that!)

    Chris

    Congratulations!!!!
A birthday is always a good excuse to open a good bottle or 2. I always open a ’special one’ on my birthday, in fact, I always open a ’special one’ every week, which theoretically makes my age 483? Ah what the hell, red wine is good for that heart(and soul). Here’s to living to 7659 years of age. Hope you can join me on that one!

    All the best, Chris

Aloha & Congratulations Lizzie & Gary!!!!!!!!! I’m going to Napa today to
celebrate in honor of you two. On the other hand I’d rather
go to Sonoma. A little more like Vayniak Country, especially at KAZ’s.
By the way, WineLibrayTV makes my day, every day

Belated congrats on your 3rd Anny. We celebrated our Forty-third last month, visiting the Naramata Heritage Inn at the tail-end of the Okanagan Fall Wine Festival. On our third we were driving through the mayhem of pre-Olympic construction in Munich, looking for the HofBrauHaus.

Thanks for the e-mail, Gary. Attention to detail is often a key to “good luck”.

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY BIG G. AND LIZZIE!!
    HAPPY B-DAY, SIR!

QOTD: For sharing your appreciation for and knowledge of vino with us while calling-out all of the pretentious, snobby “wine connoisseurs” who have given wine such an unapproachable, elitist reputation in the U.S. For giving to the Vayner Nation 5 times per week (and then some with the free shwag) and even allowing us to be a part of our own wine. For giving us your opinion, and then telling us to trust our own palates over anything even you say about a wine. For telling us to eat butter-covered lemons, currants, “granata,” black raspberries, cloves (…but DON’T bite them!) For being real, and for being you… whether anyone else likes it or not. Thanks for everything, as always, happy birthday, and cheers.

    Happy Anniversary!

QOTD: Certainly you were lucky to be born into a strong family, but I would say hard work, sense of humor and a GREAT nose, palate and memory for what you’ve experienced before has more to do with it.

QOTD: Right guy, right place, right time.

Not sure what’s up with St. Clement these days since their wines run so hot and cold depending on the drinker. I suspect–without any evidence mind you (don’t sue me, winery guys!)–that they might have a little TCA or similar thing going on and that the super-tasters like Gary pick up on that. What I can say for now is something I’ve said before: I’ve never tasted a wine that opened up after several hours like the Oroppas has/can. If you’re patient (decant at noon, drink after 6:00), the Oroppas can be one of the absolute best $40-50 cabs coming out of Cali. The little brother you tasted ain’t bad either. From my experience, it’s just that St. Clement needs hours and hours to breath.

  156. November 14, 2007

Israeli wines are an important part of changing the wine world for the better, as there are tons and tons of great Israeli wines — most not even available yet in the US (Gary, want to change that?)

I will be blogging this episode and more about Israeli wines (including the Israeli Gamay Noveau releases) on my Israel wine blog @ http://israelwine.wordpress.com

How did you get so lucky? Simple equation: palate + personality.

Also, you have the integrity to call it like you see it, come what may.

Also, you make fun of yourself, which is ingratiating.

And fortunately, there is no danger you will run out of wines to review.

    Thanks.

QOTD: Quite possibly you sold your sold to the devil. But since I dont think it was that, it has to be your charm and your actual love for us and wine. Most people can sense phonies, and you are clearly not one of those.

  167. October 7, 2009

    Phredd

Solid show. I love both pomegranates and dessert wine, so the last selection intrigues me, despite the tepid review. Not gonna head out to get it tomorrow or anything, but I’ll keep it on background, and see what happens.

I’ll wish you happy birthday in a couple years. And maybe someday I’ll catch up with all the back episodes.
