This greeting comes all the way from Europe – this is my first ever visit to this web-site! The reason I found the address of the website is that I saw you tonight on Late night with Conan O’Brien (I think they were showing a re-run) and Gary, you and Conan tasting the wines were hilarious!
I liked your video about the chocolate cake and the wines but I must say, I have not yet found a red wine which would go well together with chocolate. Of course, rosÃ© sparkling goes, and certain sweet dessert wines (I prefer tawny port or Banyuls) go well with chocolate but not red wine. Don’t you think that the wine loses something from the chocolate bitters? In my view, the wine needs to be sweeter than the chocolate.
Very interesting site, and I hope to stay tuned. This is what the world of wine needs, serious matter AND FUN!

Clos du Bois: I haven’t been a fan of their wines either. I tried their chardonnays a few times and hated ‘em, and I’m not fond of their non-reserve cab at all. I don’t think I’ve tried the reserve cab though. I’ll give it a shot and see if it breaks CdB out of what I lovingly call Cakebread Syndrome. That’s when I try a few wines from the same winery and dislike all of them so much that the mere mention of the winery makes me cringe. Bleh.

QOTD: You know, I think Sasha’s got the edge here.

The episode: Awesome. Your father should be a guest on the show more often. What a character! (I mean that in a good way.) And I love to see family members interact so well with each other. That always makes me all warm-fuzzy happy.

I love your dad on the show just as much as I did when I met him in the store. He’s a great guy, and brought up a great kid. Gary I wanna congratulate you and also wish you a super duper happy b-day…which I know you will…I wonder which wines would you open today. Anything it is, do not hesitate and open it. Today it’s the day my friend and you deserve it for the goals you’ve achieved in a short period of time. Anyway the congratulation goes for good family relation I percieved and for also showing a little bit of that to thousands of fans and some enemies too across the world. I think this family good stuff, meetings, dinners, vacations, wine tastings, etc is one of the most important things in the true development and personal improvement of a human being…..pass it on to your coming sons and daughters. We both come from different cultures where comunismn did a lot bad things to our brothers, so our families tend to be more close to give support to each other, but what I’ve seen it happens in this No wories and freedom country is that “time” limits most of that healthy sharing.
At the end we are all here to love, laugh and learn either on this lifetime or the next. Keep it up buddy and just in case, don’t you dare to stop this great show if for any reason you don’t reach 1000.
Happy Birthday again and please drink all but good wine today or for the next 2 weeks like your dad did. Talking about your dad, I did not understand the QOTD can you repeat it again…. just kidding….. well all I say is, that’s the same as wine, everyone has its own stuff. I would have to say that Sasha (like a great wine) has aged to perfection. He get’s my vote. Gary on the other hand is full of fruit and splashes around a bit. Sasha enjoys his wine like most of us, by digging right in. No Snify snif for Sasha. Uncork and consume. Pretty simple and effective.

After “meeting” his father I would never have paired Gary with Sahsa as family. Maybe next door neighbors who have a passion for good wine and chocolate, but not family. I guess that’s what make’s it work. You two get along like great friends more than father and son. And THAT is what it’s all about.

I hope you are having a wonderful birthday. I am one of those lurkers as you have classified. I really have come to enjoy your wine show, as a freind of mine turned me on to Wine Library TV two months ago. My family is slowly getting into the wine making business, and currently have over 72 acres of grapes (24 varieties planted) in Southern Oregon. I know most of the big wines from Oregon come from the Willamette Valley, but the Rogue and Applegate Valleys are slowly making it to the market. Maybe some day one of our wines will make it on your show, I can only wish.

Gary, happy birthday! I LOVED watching the interaction you had with your father on the show. I actually had a smile on my face the whole time I was watching. Of course now thinking about it, it also makes me sad because I never had that great of a relationship with my father… but I love seeing it and it’s definitely something I will strive for if I ever have kids myself. Perhaps that’s why I like seeing it so much. I fully agree with your opinions of family and friends being the most important thing; they always bring me such joy. And I love bringing those close friends together around wine. It definitely brings us together.

Also, I remember seeing some orchids in some of the other episodes. That’s cool that he’s into that! I have orchids growing all over my house as well… don’t have quite as many in bloom as your father, but it’s definitely a passion of mine, along with wine. In fact, there was one in bloom behind my friend Ken in the picture I sent to you after we had the Pinino Brunello (89 points!). Funny seeing how another wine lover is also so into plants. Maybe there’s a correlation?

Loved your dad in the show! I am Hispanic (Puertorrican). That’s how I pronounce V(ah)ynerrrchuK… That’s how I also do wine tasting…not much sniffing, but more tasting… jajaja (Spanish laugh) and of course adding some latin music to set the atmosphere…

To tell you the truth, I really didn’t pay any attention to today’s wine… just sat back with a glass of red wine and enjoyed the Rusian culture bubbling out of the dynamic nteraction both of you shared.
