If it ain’t broke………Gary, you’re good enough, you’re smart enough (with the possible exception of your painful pronunciations but that’s what makes you, You) and doggone it people like you. The show’s great, that’s why people gravitated to it in the first place.

GV, I like the current opening and format of the show and would prefer that you stay the course. Dont change babe.

QOTD: First off, your intro is why I started watching the show. Don’t change it. It has intense energy that carries through the rest of the show, and why I started watching (and continue to watch). There are many other wine shows that are toned down, and I don’t watch those. Knowledge of wine can be found anywhere. This show makes wine fun. Basically, you could make a podcast about anything, and I would watch it. I like wine, and that’s what brought me here initially, but it’s you, Gary, that keeps me watching. Your intro is the essence of the show, and of you. I have watched some of your older episodes where the intro is much more toned down, and I end up turning them off, and look for newer ones. Those who are asking to tone it down need to lighten up.

Chris Russo hasnt changed his ridiculous intro on WFAN…and i dont think they’re doing too badly….maybe just drop the “thunder show” monaker…

Gary, Dude, if they are asking you to act like another wine snob – forget it. The exuberance is great to me. I know where you’re coming from, even down to the Jets obsession.

However, I do think having viewers pitch-in intros would be funny as heck and would probably take the heat off you. Viewers have an appreciation and feel like they are part of the posse.

It’s called trademark Vay-ner-chuck…. don’t let the wineworld change YOU gv.

Hey WINE SNOBS – don’t like the intro then go back to the Wine Spectator where you have to pay for everything you want to see except for the Videos and i’m sure that will not last long either. Don’t change a thing Gary. Love the show just the way it is. The Winefather

QOTD: I prefer the show way it is. The only type of “intro” I would recommend is to just use the WLTV logo, then get into your normal GV routine. Keep up the great work, and stay true to yourself.

QOTD: My biggest problem with the opening is that the sound volume is almost twice that of the rest of the show.

I’m glad you liked the Chehalem…it is one of my favorite Oregon Pinot Noirs.

    Gary,

Love the show…THE WAY IT IS. I know you want to appeal to “all” audiences, but I enjoy your opening the way things are and feel it reflects your personality and what you are about.

Changing the wine world shouldn’t mean changing who you are…just my 2 cents. With that being said, I do think getting the vayner-nation to make intros would be a fun way to get people involved in the show.

    Keep up the good work!

Went to Chehalem last week. Had a private tasting, one featuring a half bottle. Could not agree more about your comments about Chehalem. It is howeve hard to get in Boston.

Love half bottles; they promote variety, even if both members of the couple drink.

On the other hand, full bottles often give surprisingly pleasant results when you aerate longer than you had planned.

    Depends on the wine.

QOTD: Keep the intro, its not broke. It sets the tone and energy right from the start so the viewer knows they’re really watching something. I don’t want to be seduced along gently – I want a good, exciting ride!
If you must tinker, work on the basics: sound, lighting, camera angles, editing, interruptions and preparation.

    I loves me some WLTV!

Nice, half bottles rock! I agree on Chehalem’s Reserve Pinot’s; they need some time in the bottle. I had some 2001 Ridgecrest Res I got on clearance this year that was drinking beautifully. As for the opening, I love it. How are you gonna start the “Thunder Show” without any thunder? Come on! Don’t change who you are, Gary. If you have to have a disclaimer I like the idea of viewers submitting “warnings”. Maybe those people who don’t like the opening should step up and make one for you!

Great show Gary. I suffer from a spouse that does not like wine. It is really hard to find quality half-bottles. This gives me some hope that it will catch on.

Also, are thoes Vacu-Vins a viable option if you plan on drinking the wine in the next few days? I haven’t known anyone to use one.

QOTD: I love the opening, so I think you should keep it the way it is.

hm… how about opening every show by filming your reaction to the also-famous “Two Girls and a Cup” video? if it works for Joe Rogan…

Gary – people who are critical of the intro should go back to reading Wine Advocate. End of story. The people who are turned off from the start, won’t like the show down the road and will only want you to change more.

On the topic of an “Introduction” that’s not a bad idea. But you shouldn’t force your audience to sit thru it each time (LAME!!). Instead, make a separate “Introduction to WLTV” video. Have it prominently on the side bar.

The Intro video could feature some (short, fair-use) snippets of you appearing on Conan, etc. As well as a call out quote from the TIME interview, etc.

The two girls are so cute, and I enjoy the show as well although I’m feeling extrememly sleepy today…

I like the intro. The few times I haven’t heard it (Sir Gary), it has made me sad. I like the idea of having others tape the intro imitating you doing it. No disclaimer needed.
