We're drinking the '04 Chocolan tonight, its excellent, less of a fruit bomb now (approaching four years later) but elegant and balanced, with great aciditiy. Still tannic and likely could use more time? it finishes like an aged bordeaux... but pleases like a napa cab... LIQUORICE fans will be happy and boxwood/currant is the major flavor. Very drying on the finish. Bottle will evolve throughout the night. Where do we get more of this?

Gary nailed this one. Three years later this wine is lovely. No hint of the harsh stuff that had him worried. Totally count chocula on the nose with cherries and meat juice. Delicious.

qotd: had a single vineyard malbec (yeah I know how chic it is right now) from Trapiche that was pretty darn good.
I'm familiar w the torrontes made by Colome, I'll have to check their other 1 out
Love seeing the spotlight on tannat, another varietal you don't hear enough about. Had one from Uruguay where it's supposed to be really up and coming that was really good, but my fav's are still from the Madiran, altho not this new style some wineries are using to make it real soft and fruit forward. I love it's tannin structure, but being one of the 4 most tannic commercial varietals, it just needs time to age, whereas it's usually drunk too young.

2003 Yacochuya from Salta Argentina. The Colome is also from Salta. Any Argentine will tell you the best wines come from the northern provinces and not Mendoza, or at least I will tell you that.

QOTD: Recently, I really enjoyed the 2008 Cono Sur Vision Pinot Noir. It was a holiday gift. I recommended it and some of my friends have also been happy with it.

Great Episode Gary, Love your show, been watching for a few months but this is my first time posting.

QOTD: 2004 Veramonte Primus, 90+ point Chilean Blend for about $15. Also very fond of the 2006 Alamos Malbec, a great great value.

QOTD: De Martino Single Vineyard Malbec Maule Valley. 100% Malbec from bush vines but it doesn't taste of fake violets that some overripe South American malbecs can do!
