Just watched this show again because I’m going to Provence in a couple weeks and planning to visit Bandol! Super-excited.

Thanks for getting me ready for the trip!

Got a offer from Garagiste on the 2005 Tempier and did not know Bandol was Mourvedre. Have had that varietal before but in Spanish wines. Now I am curious about Bandol. Thanks Gary for the schoolin’!

A Shawn Kemp diss? Honestly? You damn well know 10 years ago you would have been all over him on your basketball team! The Sonics best years ( minus the 79′ title) were with Kemp/Payton. Knocking a guy long after his carear is over? *sad Justin* I forgive you though because you trash those dirty Pats. QOTD: No Bandol. Guess this means another new one to add to my to do list! *grin*

    Love Bandol!

But i think that you should have included Domaine de l’Olivette in your show. It’s quite distinct from the other Bandols but yet sooooo interesting.

Please put more Bandols on your show!

Bonjour! I am so happy to find your review as my husband and I are on our way to taste Bandols this afternoon. We will definitely be on the lookout for Domaine Le Galantin…WOW! I suppose we must visit Domaine Tempier so we can avoide the “Bandol police”. PS Great to hear from the wine library as we are missing our shopping trips there since we moved away from Basking Ridge.

Wow! We stayed in Mas du Galintin around the corner from the Galantin winery last September during Rugby World Cup 2007. We visited many Bandol wineries and were at Galantin twice. Here’s is what you sniffed… it is a barnyard! That winery is a junky barnyard with broken farm gear and toothless servers that love their work. They even slipped us some of their grape leave liquor, which they smelled of.

Always fun to learn about new stuff. While I have heard about Bandol, and actually seen a bottle or two on the shelves of the local wine shop, I have never tried one. I think you just convinced me though! Speaking of Mourvedre, I have had a number of wines from Jumilla, Spain that feature this grape. Either excusively like Juan Gil, or ina blend like Finca Luzon Altos. I love the blueberry component!

Opened an 04 Tempier (I think the same as on this episode)- was not memorable, or I’d have remembered it better! LOL

Also has a couple bottles of the Tempier Rose from Bandol. Really enjoyed that one – though was one of the first Rose wines I had ever purchased.

I had a Domaine Tempier several years ago and I was very impressed. As my friends in Ireland used to say about Guinness – “there’s eatin’ and drinkin’ in that glass”. I found it somewhat gamey, strong nose, but with an excellent mouth feel and a very good backbone. The taste went on for minutes.

I’ve had the domaine Gros Nore, I’m sure that’s not spelled right. Anyway it was a 99 and was outstanding.

Chateau Pradeaux makes a very nice, albeit pricey, Bandol.

QOTD – No, I’ve never had a Bandol, but I’ve wanted to try them for a while. This episode was a catalyst of sorts. I found a store in town that carries the 04 Galantin, so I’ll be picking up a couple bottle tomorrow :)
    Thanks Gary!

QOTD: The only Bandol I’ve had was the Domaine Tempier Rose – and wow, was it awesome. Would love to try the reds.

Great show – I really liked it.

GREAT SHOW!!! Like many other Vayniacs, I love shows where you try things from a region or varietal that I am not that familiar with (if at all). Excellent job!

QOTD: Nope, I’ve never tried a Bandol. That will change soon!

I watched the Bandol show last week and immediately ordered the Galantin from the wine library. I am fairly new to your show and this was my first order. I am also new to buying wine that costs more than $10. However, I want to learn more about wines, so when my Galantin arrived today, I decided to review the Bandol show and have my first taste along with you. I tried to smell and taste the things you described, but my palate just doesn’t distinguish everything yet. Also, I smell things but can’t quite remember what they are. I do like the Galantin — it’s my kind of wine. Thank you for the experience. So much wine — so little time!

Gary, your so radool. So glad you finally did a show on Bandol. Do more!

QOTD: Domaine Tempier Bandol Classique. The wine seller at Whole Foods in Los Gatos recommended it to me and I was blown away with how yummy it was. I bought another in Santa Cruz at Shopper’s Corner. This was a couple of years ago and it was $24. Really want to try their La Miqoua and La Tourtine.
