I had my first Bandol almost 2 years ago. I had it on my first ski trip with my now fiancee while watching it snow from a warming That probably adds a little bit to my enjoyment of Bandols. We have had a few bottles of the Terrebrune ‘03 which we really enjoy.

I’ve been a lover of Bandol for years and have purchased a case every year, especially from Domaine Tempier, but I am excited to try the others. And my favorite importer on the west coast is Kermit Lynch!

QOTD: Have not tried a Bandol, but interested in the Galantin, sounds just my style!

A late breaking comment: Thanks for the Bandol show. First tried one back in ‘91. It was an eighty something Pibarnon I bought for $35. It was so good I went back and bought two more bottles. Would love to have more but hard to find here.

Hey Gary… love the reviews. My first time watching you (after hearing you with Rich Schefren) and think I may have to be a wine conosseur (I’m pretty sure I butchered the spelling… or made up a new word).

To tell you the truth, I love wine… but never knew you could get all of these tastes out of the wine (horse poop and smoking batteries? lol) I better start paying more attention to the wine I’m drinking!

Hey man, keep up the excellent work and I’m sure I’ll catch you later.

    Cheers,

P.O. – Oh… by the way you east coast guys always butcher saying Oregon, lol

No Bandol for me, sadly I have been doing more buying than drinking of the wine lately… I should go get on that.

Thanks for introducing me to a new region. I’ve never tried a Bandol before.

Hey, you’re drinking a wine I recognise!!! I have a Domaine de Terrebrune 2002 Bandol, picked it up in the summer on a trip to France for $20. I wasn’t planning on opening that one for many a year to come, and you popped a 2004 – you’ve killed a baby there!

QOTD – Yes, but only one and a year ago, Les Cannisses 2002, I didn’t rate it too much, 83pts and a “nothing special” comment, lacking any real depth. I know ‘02 wasn’t the best Vintage for Bandol, but I hope the pedigree of the Terrebrune makes up for that a little.

Great show as always! I discovered this show in South Korea a month or so ago, and have been going through the older episodes while keeping up with the new ones. I’m learnign a great deal, as well as getting some entertainment from your wit and personality. Please don’t stop! :)

A really nice rosé wine is tough to find, but Château de Pibarnon (Bandol) 2004 was really a best friend in South of France. I like it much better than Domaine Ott. The Pibarnon red is hit or miss by the year but it pairs well with north african food like a lamb tajine…
Not exactly a Bandol, but a neighbor, a wine that really was a great great wine for the price, and I never use that phrase lightly, Domaine de Montcalmès 2004 from Coteaux du Languedoc…a little hard to find even here is Paris, but hasnt disappointed me ever…

I’ve actually had the 1999 and the 2002 of the Domaine de Terrebrune and they’re both super nice. The 2002 was on the wine list of a restaurant run by an ex-world’s-best-sommelier-prize-winner in Paris. Nice animal, earthy sort of smell. I found the ‘99 in a wine shop and bought it just because the ‘02 had been so good. It also proved itself to be well done.

I would definitely recommend Red wines from the Bandol region if you are a fan on old world style wines. I few years ago I had a 1994 Bandol, it was totally funky the night it was opened. (brett?)
But three days later it was awesome. I don’t prefer to age most wines for more than ten years but a high quality Bandol will age great. Look for a 10 year old Bandol to see what this wine can truly be.

I have loved Bandol wines, and that they are underappreciated, for a long time. It has been nice to be able to get the wines at reasonable prices while Bordeaux goes through the roof. GARY – why not include Pibarnon?

Yea! I actually e-mailed you a couple of time to review the Domaine Tempier Bandol. Yes! I have not had the 05′ vintage -I hate to admit I can not remember the vintage I had (I had it probably 2 years ago and was blown away by it. After drinking this is what really drew me into French wines. I am tired of over juiced no terroir tasting cali wines. Don’t get me started on Australia Shirizas. I have had too many crappy ones of late. Any way I don’t know if you recall getting my e-mails about reviewing some Bandols, however Kudos! Too Bad the Tempier 05′ didn’t pan out. It is sort of the quintessential Bandols..Anyway I’m excited to try some others.. Domaine Tempier is all I’ve had… Keep up the great shows.

Brett contamination is a big turn off to me and disqualifies a wine from my cellar. I have had Brett contamination in more than one Bandol wine and for that reason don’t buy them as a habit.

I am a bit surprised to find that Gary likes wines that are infected with Brettanomyces. Generally it is considered by wine makers to be an undesirable yeast. It tastes like a horse took a dump in your wine glass. It is not a particular flavor that I seek out. When there is a small amount of it present however, it might be considered rustic charm by some.

Yes I have, a Tempier, after reading about the estate in Kermit Lynch’s fine book, Adventures on the Wine Route.

You got me out of my ‘lurk’ mode to admit I have never had one before, but will now seek out a Bandol.

I’ve never tried the Bandol, so I walked into a local wineshop yesterday to inquire after one. Lo behold, they had in stock the 2002 Le Galantin for 13 Euros, so I picked it up. Thanks for the tip!

Gary, thanks for everything your doing. I am just a college kid, but I’ve got to tell you that your really getting me interested in wine.
    Keep it up!
    Thanks

QOD: Bandol. Have I tried it? I’ve never even heared the name until today.
