Radool??? What are you ten, Gary? That maybe one of the stupidest things I have ever heard out of your mouth. I expect more from you. God help us if that word catches fire.

QOTD. I have had a number of Bandols, including numerous vintages of Tempier. I live in Berkeley and can walk to Kermit Lynch’s retail store from my house, so that’s where I got turned on to Bandol. In all honesty I’m not surprised the Tempier didn’t fare as well. That wine needs to be aged for at least 5 years before I would touch it (as do most Bandols…Mourvedre is really tannic). I had a 95 Tempier Migoua (one of the single vineyards) about 2 weeks ago and it was just coming into shape nicely but still young. These wines can easily age for 10-20 years, and really do soften and open up, but have incredible balance from the tannins. They’re fantastic with any grilled meat and I love them with Italian food as well. The Galantin sounds like a great deal for less than $20. That’s a real bargain for Bandol, most of which are north of $30. Go get some, put ‘em in the cellar for 5-10 years and think how good they’ll taste. Don’t drink them when they’re young. This stuff is like good Bordeaux.

My best Bandol was one I drank 1 month ago…. 1979 Domaine d’Ott… SOOOO alive and fresh, yet full and velvety… Beautiful!!!

QOTD: Nope. Never even heard of it.

Been drinking some serious wine today Gary? You’ve got more Mad Dog then usual. Ya know, Mad Dog, MD 20/20, “Bum wine”….the Purple Teeth. No? Anybody? Well, I think it’s funny. I have a friend that has been labeled Mad Dog for 7 Years, for getting sick on red wine and staining his teeth, half his face, and his bed sheets purple. Gross.

QOTD: Never heard of Bandol, but those are my favorite wines to seek out! Thanks for always bringing new varietals to the table, Gary! That’s what makes wine and WLTV so much fun. And also thanks for trying to include various price points; I’m glad that the Galatin is under $20 but I can totally check it out!

I think the Galantin was written up as a smart buy in Wine Spectator a while back. I’m not going to lie to the Vaynernation, nooooooooooooooooo, not little ol me, I have never had a Bandol, but if I saw a bottle on the shelf, I’d give it a try – EPHhhhhhhhhhhh.

Regarding the lurkers, c’mon, leave a message. Don’t be shy – no one will rat you out. Plus if you’re funny and a newbie Gary will often email you when he’s on the crapper. I’m neiher new or funny enough, but it did happen aaaaaaaaaaaand it could happen to you too!

Gary, which Le Galantin Bandol Rouge is this, the regular rouge or the Rouge Longue Garde, which apparently is only made in special vintages (according to my online research). I read the Wine Advocate review on your product page, and heard your review of course, so I bought this. But then I went to the Wine Advocate site, and it looks like that quoted review was for the Longue Garde. So the review might be posted for the wrong wine on WL. Not sure.

I had the 2002 Chateau de Pibarnon yesterday and today, what a coincidence!
I have a few in my cellar so this one was to get the temperature of the ageing process.
I really hope that this wine will evolve because it was rather thin stuff indeed. Not even harsch tannins! Quite a dissapointment.
I also had a La bastide blance two weeks ago which was absolutely stunning.

    Radool, Gary.

QOTD: I have had Banyuls (which you should do someday) but never a Bandol.

  23. November 29, 2007

    Ryan D

QotD: I have not had a Bandol… but I haven’t had a lot of wines so it’ll go on the list.

    Taylor

Great show I haven’t really heard anything about Bandol, but is something I will deff seek out in the future!
QOTD I have not had a Bandol, but the Le Galatin sounded very good and I might be up a few bottles!

  25. November 29, 2007

    David Dadekian

As I said yesterday, lurk no more.
QOTD: I have never had one that I can recall. I certainly knew the name, but it still surprises me that after so many years of drinking wine I “new” things that I can’t remember trying. It’s usually France and Italy that still surprise me.
