First Bandol was Domaine Tempier Rose this past summer. I was blown away, the first rose I have had that started like a white and finished like a red, amazing. I am lucky enough to live near Kermit Lynch wine shop in Berkeley so I have had some great wines from these smaller French regions. Anyone in the SF Bay area needs to check out this shop, the staff is phenomenal and they will find you something different for your price range.

I had a Bandol rose a few years ago with a bowl of bouillabaisse. I can’t recall the name, but I loved how the acidity cut through the olive oil shellac that coated my lips after a few spoonfulls of that rich stew.

Great show, Gary! I’ll definitely have to try these.

Gary, I had Bandol in 1978 or so. I lived very close to Kermit Lynch’s old, tiny shop, when he just had one or two other people working there, and he had just stated bringing in the Domaine Tempier. I bought it on his recommendation. It cost about 7-8 dollars, as I recall. To tell you the truth, I wasn’t that impressed with it, even though it was getting good reviews, and I haven’t tried a Bandol since. In fact, I was shocked whaen you told mentioned the price.

Now, I’m going to have to try one again. I’ll look for that Gallantin, on the basis of this episode. I’ve gotten pretty much stuck in a wine rut over the years, and your show is slowly but surely pulling me out of it.

QOTD: Yes, no maybe – who can say? Gary, I apreciate the fact that you, and many of the people who post here keep such great records, but I just want to drink a good glass. I think you’re starting to attract too many “snobs” when you ask a question like that and they all get to brag about their cellars. Either that or I’m in a bad mood today and just want to be mean to somebody.

Radool (correct spelling?), excellent, finally a word to replace “totally tits!”

Enjoyed the show…just goes to show…you have to taste the wines to know how much you like them. Thought you said “Bob Dole” at the beginning of the show. Don’t think I’ll have any trouble remembering the pronunciation of Bandol.

QOTD: No. But we will have to look for some, especially the first one.

I’ve had the 04 Domaine Tempier. Noticed a touch of cinnamon on the finish. Currently I have an 04 and 05 Tempier in the cellar. Time to try others!

Your prices are way lower than the ones I’ve seen when I go shopping for wine. I’ll have to check out your store!

    Still watching…just lurking.

QOTD…Yes. Don’t remember. I had it at a tasting at a local wine shop. I loved it as Morved is my favorite grape.

    WOOOO HOOOOOO! LOVE BANDOL!
i had bandol in the beginning of my wine loving life. it really helped set my palate. there is is this gaminess to it along with deep fruit and velvet type tannin. i can’t say much about it. the first one i had was a gros nore. after that i started filling my cellar (OK not filling, but making a section for them. now i have some bottles of Pradeaux, Pibernon, tour de bon and dupere barrera really small producer. bandol besides 02 has had great vintages over the past decade. 97 was a little rough, but after that, smooth sailing. 00 and 01 were great. the bandolers might say 01 was better. so frikin’ good QPR is outstanding. these wines can do 15 to 20 years no problem. i think the tempier needs some time to fill out. 05 his high profile, 04 is good in bandol and will age quicker. they still need time.
BRAVO GARY FOR DOIN’ IT UP. such a great wine for the cold months

I’ve had several of the Tempier pinks — they’re about the only southern French pinks I’ve disliked. I also had the 1993 Tempier, an though it nice but over-priced.

I’ve never tried a Bandol, but will definitely search some out at my local wine spot. Though, I do need to start cruising around for a new wine shop, as my current one is WAY overpriced (at least I think so)

Don’t Bandols really like a little bottle age?
Bandol is one of the first southern french wines I ever drank,, it used to be 13 dollars.

    I love Pradeaux 2000

I am new to wine. I really enjoy a heavy red. I just wanted to say It is great to see someone who is not stuffy, or up tight that knows about wine. I will definitely watch your internet show, and tell others about it. Thanks!! PS. I found you from Bzz agent.

Gary, be careful if when you go back to Provence, the Tempier police have a warrent out for you!

QOTD: To do for 2008: Try a Bandol.

    Dear Lurkers,
I was once like you, lurking on Gary and his wine show.
But then one day i decided to comment, and it changed my life.
Well, it didn’t really change my life, but it made Gary happier, so you should do it too.
    DO IT!

    Dear Gary,
i had not heard of Bandol until today,
I’ll keep an eye out for it, but it may not be in my price range. yet.
When’s the next 120 gonna be?

oh, and i was on colourlovers today, and i saw a little WLTV link in the corner that linked me to the “new to wine” section.
Which for some reason i’d never noticed before, and it kept me amused for ages.
    Thanks man
I can’t wait to win the widget contest and cohost the show with you.
