QOTD: Never had it. Will the dryness and tannin soften up over time?

QOTD: I have a bottle of 2001 Domaine Le Galantin Bandol in the cellar now. I am glad you did this review before I opened it. It is always fun to drink the wine you are tasting. I know the 2001 may be radically different than your 2004, but it will be both interesting and entertaining.

Radool Show! I love the Bandols ever since I travelled with the little woman to the French Riviera a few years ago. Most recently I had a Bandol at a B&B last year during the New Year’s Eve festivities. Inexpensive, but good but forgot the name. Domaine Cou…?

As an FYI, you were spot on the Leocadie. Having it tonight. Yum

    Cheers!

    P.S. Go Pack tonight!

QOTD: i’ve had both the ‘04 and ‘05 Tempier. i had the same reaction to the ‘05. i thought the ‘04 was superior.

I have never tried Bandol but I do admire Kermit Lynch and love his newsletter.

Yes I have had a few Bandols including Tempier. They are different than most wines I drink and different is good sometimes. Like you said they are on the structured side.

Gonna head to LCBO to pick up some of that Galantin so that I can say I’ve tried Bandol.

QOTD: Bandol virgin on deck, Cap’n! Sheesh, never even head of it before today. I do live a sheltered life as a wine pirate. rrrggghh! (Had to use little r’s due to my provincial existence) No, not Provencal, provincial! Good show, GV.

I haven’t had any and was really looking forward to trying it–too bad it’s sold out already!

QOTD: I’ve had a few mourvedre based wines, but never a bandol. We carry the Tempier, but I might let it hang around a little before I try some.

I had the 98 Domaine La Suffrene and it was really fantastic. They also make very good rose.

Nice webisode Gary. I used to comment more often, but recently reverted to lurker status–the enigmatic nature is more appealing. But here is a comment for you to tally if that’s what strokes your ego.

AOTD: Never a Bandol, but it’s now on my wishlist.

He I am, lurking again….sorry. But I tend to watch you while I’m making dinner and cracking the wine open. As much as I enjoy the banter I just have my hands full of goose liver and just can’t type…I will try to do better! :-) Any, yes I’ve had it once or twice but can’t remember my impressions. Will have to go back and try again. Thanks and keep up the great work and please don’t come down on us ‘lurkers’ too hard. Cheers!

QOTD: Ah yes, love Bandol…love mourvedre…I really like the wines coming out of Provence and the south of France in general. Great q/p. How about a Bandol rose show next summer?

  25. November 29, 2007

    Flavio

    God bless Provence.

I had the 2004 Tempier at a wonderful dinner in Aix-en-Provence this summer and loved it. Didn’t feel as tight as most people say (everyone tells me that 2004 Tempiers still need to be put away for 5-10 yrs). Since we’ve been back I’ve tried to get some 2004 La Tourtine but have not had luck finding it.

I see the Galantin here and there but have always ignored, thinking it was a cheap Tempier wannabe. Now I feel like an idiot, but that’s exactly why I watch WLTV. Will buy some tomorrow!

You should taste some whites from Cassis (near Bandol) to carry on the Provençal theme!
