    First,
    Gary, great great show, thanks.
We are waiting for you here in Israel, trust me – you are going to have the time of your life!!!

    QOTD,
Tough one… I would say, and it’s going to sound silly,
Friday’s night dinner, Kabalat Shabbat (welcoming the Sabbath), with my family.
A few salads, chicken with potetoes or stakes on the grill with a great Flam Classico/ Barkan Merlo Reserve/ Dalton Reserve/ Ella Valley Cabernet Reserve.

look how lucky I am, every week I have the greatest dinner in the world all over again and again.

QotD: Oh man, but then there was that other time in Morocco a couple years ago. Some friends invited us over for the softest cous-cous ever, underneath fresh cooked veggies, underneath a whole chicken. A sweet raisin sauce was poured over all that. Chase it down with either leben or mint tea. I chose the mint tea. Delicious.

    Cheers,
    Daniel

Congrats on yer Jets victory, Wine Guy!

QOTD: Has to do with a combo of Family and Food. Christmas Eve prime rib dinners with Lars’ family can’t be beat. Family is first. Mom’s excellent cooking is just a bonus.

QOTD: Cafe Bouchard in Newport RI. EVERYTHING from appetizer to entree to dessert, including wine was fabulous. Oh, and the filet mignon melted in your mouth!

To Candace — The Yarden Mount Hermon Red (a decent entry-level wine, I like it, but it’s a mass-market wine for profit) is not mevushal as NONE, NONE of the GHW wines are mevushal.

Best Meal: first date with my wife at Ruth’s Chris – Rack of Lamb, great wine, great company and the beginning of an everlasting relationship.

The best meal I ever had was made by my dad. Grilled filet mignon on top of a thick-cut slice of sourdough bread, topped with asparagus, goat cheese and hollandaise sauce. The steak was tender and juicy and perfectly medium-rare. And we paired it with the most expensive bottle of wine we’ve ever opened: a bottle of 1999 Penfold’s Bin 707 cabernet sauvignon.

best meal ever at Richmond Hill Inn (Asheville NC) last fall at their 100 pt. wine dinner. Five one hundred pt wines and a course to go with each. When you walked in the door you were handed Veuve Cliquot 96 (only 99 pts) with orderves. The wines were Chave (what year?) white from Mt. hermitage, that goose liver stuff with 2000 D”yquem, the red chave hermitage with some mushroom action, some huge bordeux that i have forgotten with rack of lamb, and an austrailian desert wine with desert. talk about ausome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

QOTD: My wife and I went to Prague last fall. We didn’t see anything spectacular on the trip until we ate at a place called Peklo. We had a Chateaubriand meal for 2 and FANTASTIC Moravian wine. Finished it off with a Cream Brullée and a glass of port. A quiet dinner in a 12th century wine cellar with my wife, how can it get any better.

The best meal..? Like you often say, the people, the place and the occasion plays such a big part in this. I could say Sunday lunch with my family, a cheese sandwich in a cheap Paris hotel room, street food in Saigon… I’m going to say a meal that I had with my friends Andy and Rick at Little Italy in Soho (London). I can’t remember what I ate but the look on the waiters face when Andy (my old boss) ordered a glass of every desert wine on the list to be lined up in a row for for us to sample. Friends and family.

    Gary,

Funny that you mention Beaucastel in connection with Saint Jean du Barroux l’Oligocène since Philippe Gimel, the owner, has been winemaker at….Château Beaucastel!

BTW: My family and I stay each summer since 2002 in a cottage just behind the mountain ridge on the label of Jean du Barroux l’Oligocène – only five minutes driving from the estate.

OFTD: Many years ago on the first time I went to Paris alone as a student, 20 years old, and had a marvellous lunch one sunny winter day close to l’Eglise Saint Sulpice including a perfectly roasted guinea fowl with ½ a bottle of some Beaujolais Cru, Morgon, Juliénas, Brouilly or something like that and a large glass of eau de vie de Poire Williams along with the strong coffee.

Gary – thanks for speaking truth about the excellent Israeli kosher and non-kosher wines. I’m a huge fan of Yarden and the Golan Heights Winery – the old boy of quality Israeli wine. With GHW, there’s always a good wine and winner. Reliable.

If anyone is interested in Israeli wine or to contribute (and Gary, look forward to a guest contribution and write up when you visit) check out my Israeli wine blog HaKerem: The Israeli Wine Blog – http://israelwine.wordpress.com.

QOTD: Many fine meals (sadly without wine – maybe next time) at top Jerusalem restaurants. But, who needs a fine meal when one can drink fine wine? Especially Israeli!

QOTD: My best meal was 14 years ago–newly married and had my family in for Thanksgiving. Went to a local wine store on Halsted in Chicago for wine. Met a wonderful lady who owned the store who sold us four bottles of wine based upon what we were eating. She was perfect with her selections and my wife was perfect in the preparation of the dinner. My family still talks about that Thanksgiving and it was the start of my interest in wine.

    QOTD:
My favorite meal was with my boyfriend when we went out for Valentines Day to a restaurant called Melting Pot (im sure you have heard of it). We ordered the Meal for Two and proceeded to stuff ourselves with course upon course of delicious fondue from a bread and cheese appetizer to a lobster dinner to the most amazing chocolate fondue I have ever had.
We were so full by the time we were done with the meal and a bottle of wine that it was three hours later and we could barely walk to the car. :)

Great show, as always… . Did I miss the price on the St. Jean du Barroux, or was it not given? QoD..So many great meals under the bridge over the years, one that immediately comes to mind involved the humble pizza: a rosemary, roast potato, and Italian sausage pizza in a small place in Verona. I also remember a great osso bucco at “le continental” bistro in Montreal.
