Had a great meal with my wife as Casa Mono. The duck egg with potatos and tuna loin is probably the best single dish i have ever tasted.

QOTD: I have to agree with my husband (JasonH) — Best meal EVER was our 2nd anniversary dinner in Cortona, Italy. But he left out the details! We sat outside overlooking the valley and they served us an AMAZING 5-course meal with a mushroom theme. Each was paired with a different Italian wine and my favorite was the dessert course — several tiny pots of different desserts including a lavendar creme brulee, a chocolate pot de creme, and a vin santo to die for! All of this after a full day of wine tasting in Motepulciano, Montalcino, and Pienza. Does it get better than that?!?

I just had the best steak of my life at Delmonicos in the Venetian in Las Vegas. Bone-in steak and I also had a bite of the filet which was just as silly.

Best meal was probably this year at thanksgiving. I don’t like most of the traditional food, so I encourage a little outside the box type of dinner. Roasted goose stuffed with apple and pear, cornbread and cranberry stuffing with a port/cream sauce, roasted butternut squash and brussel sprouts sauteed w/ pancetta and sour cream. Lots of pie, people brought 11 kinds of cheese and all washed down with great wine. The favorite wine of the day was the Leeuwin Artist Cabernet. Gary recommended it while I was shopping at the store the day before thanksgiving. Thanks a ton G. I was outstanding.

Everything my mother cooks is really good. Unfotunatelly, I live miles away from her, since 1994. So, nowadays I like my own pasta, the one I cook with carrots. Don’t make this face! It’s really good. If you come to Brazil some day, I can cook for you and your wife. Regards. Rafaela

I have to agree with Dan here. When thinking of my best meal, I keep thinking of the people around me. Not sure what I had on my 21st birthday, but it was pretty amazing because of all the peeps that came down to Atlantic City! However, I am a sucker for a great steak or anything with crab meat.

The best meal I ever had… that’s a tough one because I feel like I’ve had a lot of good meals. I could say it was at Peter Luger’s but I think the best meal would have to be about more than just the food. I think the best meal would have to be one of the ones where we sat at the table for 3 hours talking and enjoying good food. That would probably be at Zum Schneider in NYC on my birthday 2 years ago.

Recently did the tasting menu at Tabla restaurant in Manhattan. Wonderful varied menu with great wine pairings. Went with friends and four hours later we couldn’t please what an evening we had.

Best Meal: You can’t beat a Chilean Sea Bass rapped in Prosciutto on the BBQ. Throw it back with a great pinot and you’re golden.

Gary: Check out Cru du Cadoulet

Chad: Read “To Cork or Not To Cork, Tradition, Romance, and the Battle for the Wine Bottle” by George M. Taber. Best book I’ve found regarding closures.

QOTD: Filet Mignon, potatoes, mixed greens, w/ a half bottle of brunello @ 14,000 feet, not the most elaborate, but with the best seats I’ve ever had! (Not to forget the effects of wine at high altitude)

QOTD: Best meal I had was at Fleur de Sel. A great Austrian Riesling, artichoke and goat cheese ravioli for starters and venison with pureed potatoes. Though the best dessert I’ve ever tasted was a goat cheese and peach tart at Pacifico.

A six course tasting dinner at davidburke and donetella. As an amateur chef I tried to mimic their recipes and came awfully close!

Gary, going off of your favorite region, what other regions are generally sure bets for a solid bottle between 10-15 bones?

QOTD: My wife and I had an excellent dinner at Gary Danko in SF back in 2001. It was our introduction to Hudson Valley Fois Gras. Perfectly seared to that wonderful butter-like consistency, matched with poached pear, and paired with the most-excellent 1990 Chateau d’Yquem! It doesn’t get any better than that!

Hey, how many cases do you have left of the 2003 Saint Jean Du Barroux L’oligocene?

QOTD: My greatest meal in the recent past was when I was at the Rutherford Grill in Napa, CA. It was an ostrich fillet, soooo tasty, moist and meaty, like a good steak. Awesome brussel sprouts and mashed potatoes with horseradish and cabbage in it. I saved half for my next night’s meal since I was vacationing. YUM!

My favorite meal was the last meal my mother cooked two days before she passed away in 1996. As she said her food was delicious because she cooked with love.
