The best meal I ever had was at The Park Steakhouse in New Jersey. My wife and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary a year prior to be being married (I know it sounds strange but we are strange), so we called my cousin who told us about his new restaraunt, and it was set. We did not however realize the great lengths he would go to to give us such a nice gift, including a tour of the kitchen and cellar, an explanation of courses (all nine), an extremely attentive sommelier, and a dessert that would make you blush. Part of the dinner included roses delivered to my wife by the staff, and a small cast iron stove being brought to the table with fresh biscotti baking on top of smoking hickory cinders.
Its been a year and a half since, the experienced changed me and is why I “got into” wine and food in the first place.

Love the show keep it up.

QOTD- By far the best meal I’ve had was when I was traveling for work in Atlanta. My boss is good friends with the chef, so she took all of us who were traveling and we got the special treatment. The chef was incredible, a true artist. I don’t think I’ve even had better clams in my life. Better yet it was free!!

The meal that sticks out the most in my mind was at El Bulli in 2004. What creativity and wines to die for and someone else was paying. Who could ask for more?
Your notes on the Nimes made me lust for 3 bottles. Thanks for your work as always. Haven’t had a Nimes in 5 years. I would like the Masseto if you are pulling names but so do the other 600+ folks.

The best meal ever? Well, after I’ve tried some of the better restaurants in my Swedish hometown, and some in New York, I have to say that i had my best meal ever was at a shabby old restaurant near the city of Massa Marittima in Tuscany. Me and my family ate an amazing, rustic mushroom soup and drank cheap red wine, and everything was…just perfect! The best moments are not so much about fine-dining, foie gras and truffles…as long as friends, family and loved ones are gathered, a water-based Italian mushroom soup can blow your mind!

QOTD- The meal that immediately pops into my head was cooked on one of those old Coleman stoves on a brisk morning outside on a trip we made into Canada. Somewhere near Lake of the Woods we pulled over and made bacon, potatoes, eggs and warmed up grandma’s cinnamon rolls on the tailgate in cast iron pans in the wilderness. Had to be 30 years ago but I still remember how good everything was. Or maybe it was just the location and company. . .

Gary V, can you pm me whenever you have a chance? I have a HUGE request.

QOTD: My ex-girlfriend’s parents came over from France to visit us and we cooked for them. Great food, great people, great wine. I’ll never forget the look on her father’s face when he first tried the 1996 Meerlust Rubicon I served. He couldn’t believed it wasn’t high quality Bordeaux.

Best meal I had would be a vegetarian cannelloni in Scotland a few year ago, it was served topped with cloves, which is unusual but tasted amazing. I don’t remember the wine served with it unfortunately.

there have been many but one that stands out was a lunch I had in the central square of Aix-en-Provence. A massive plate was served with such an incredible variety of prepared vegetables, pate, cheese, and more – it was as tasty as it was absolutely beautiful! Will never forget that one….

The best meal I had was in Grand Case, Saint Martin. With a beautiful water view, I started with a ‘Ti Punch. Appetizer was shark ceviche Entree was Devil Fish Creole with a Poilly Fume and desert was a homemade tropical ice cream and fruit platter. The waiter poured my wife and I a shot of coconut-infused and banana-infused rum and a after dinner drink.

QOTD: Best Dinner I ever had, happened on two occasions. Once with my Dad when I was young and 2nd with my Mother-in-Law some time later. I’m sure the food was great, but The two people I mentioned are no longer with us and you can’t have a great dinner without great company.

QOTD: Easily the best meal I have ever had as the tasting menu at Tru in Chicago. I have never had anything like it to date. Everything was superb.

qotd: there have been so many great meals, but the one that sticks out is the day with some buddies after a round of golf, we grilled two big filet mignons each, baked huge potatoes and smothered them with butter and shredded cheese, and boiled up corn on the cob in beer and Old Bay seasoning – an inspired decision that I’ve now repeated many times. Never eaten so much in my life, and never did it taste so damn good.

QOTD. Best meal ever – On honeymoon in south of france at a tiny hotel (Mas Des Carassin) in small town (St Remy de Provence) sitting out in the courtyard on a mid-june afternoon. Every bite went down in my memory and some very nice local wine, of course too.

QOTD: The best meal I’ve ever had was my grandmother’s cheese dumplings. I miss her…her food was the best because she always put all of her heart into it (figuratively speaking, of course).

QOTD: Gonna say I made a turkey on my grill a month After Thanksgiving last year. Some how I pulled off spectacular fete. Added apple wood chips to the mix, the thing had a damn smoke ring on the breast! Even made the gravy with white wine. The whole thing was amazing.
Tried it again this year and it was good but not as good as last year. Not as much of the smoke ring going.. Something about that first experiment last year that blew me away.

But I have also had some amazing steaks at Grill 23 in Boston. Can’t take that away from them.
