Freaking great episode!! You make me want a wine cellar for the home but unfortunately, it’s still off-site for me. :( and GV….where the heck is my 1990 Massetto!!! jk

Excellent show. I use a Vintage Keeper 220 and have been happy with it so far. It has a very good QPR.

Cool show GV, really informative and enjoyable. For the time being, my hall closet under the stairs will be the home for my small collection. Spare cash goes for the wine and consumption.
    Thanks again.

Interesting show, it’s just hard to watch knowing the bulk of my generation or younger won’t be able to afford to fill those cellars with some of the great wines from France and California. Priced out of collecting. I have a cellar at home, but you’ve got to be on another planet to believe these are in the range of the every-day-joe. Evidence the wine world is changing, not necessarily in a good way, especially people trying to get started.

    Gary,
I enjoy watching your show and your enthusiasm for wine and I am going to throw a huge “but” in here. Ready? Your camera presence and good looks are hurt by your very poor posture. I am a chiropractor in addition to being a wine lover, and I am suggesting that you see your chiropractor to fix your “forward head carriage.” It is quite easy to do so with a few adjustments and some home exercise and stretch instructions. Let me know if you need any assistance.

Absolutely amazing episode. I think we need more field trips like that!

Next it would be nice to see what a home user that doesn’t have a basement (Floridian) can do for a wine cellar.

Amazing ep. I’ve always wanted a cellar on the main floor attached to the dining room. That is the ideal place. It is so tempting to do this but then I think, why don’t I just buy $60K worth of better wine. What would give me more enjoyment? I guess both.

That was a great look at wine cellars! Gary, your point about wine rotation and need for a cellar was an important one to distinguish. Thanks for saving the best for last! That household not only sees wine as a legacy, but also as something to be enjoyed and shared in the present.

Great episode GV; one of my favorites. Hopefully someday I’ll be able to afford a cellar like that AND wines like those. Big upz from the CKC!

Enjoyed all the wine cellars. Most important point you mentioned was how long will you keep the wines and their price point. I have a passive cellar, I don’t sell my wines and normally keep them less than 10 years. My temp fluctaution is frpom 55 in winter to 68 in the summer. My bottles have aged fine. I do use a dehumidifier to keep the humidity around 70%. I can hold around 700 bottles and it cost me around 1500 to build.

    Really enjoyed the episode.
Idea for another show, or maybe you’ve already done it, but a tour of the wine library would be interesting watch. If you’ve done any other episodes similar to that, link them up!

    Sensei,

Great episode and very imformative. I think you should try and do more field trips on educational issues. This was a wonderful idea!

wowwwww, a wine cellar is like my ultimate goal for a future home and those are some pretty sweet ones! I might need to give J Rosen a call in like 10 or 15 years… For the moment, I keep my bottles sideways under the bed. If you have a carpet and no money, its definitely the way to go.

Great show Gary. If I learned one thing it’s to use mahogany or pine when I building my own racking! :)

That first wine cellar is the awesome, and I wish I had one. But it’s hard to build a cellar onto a second-floor apartment. :P

    Hey Gary,
Very nice show. Really enjoyed it! While I aspire to the greatness of those cellars, and enjoy seeing them, my own is quite humble. It consists of about 50-70 bottles in a wine fridge under the stairs. It only varies 2-3 degrees, and most of the wine gets consumed within 24-36 months, but alas I’ve started to lay down a few bottles for the long haul. When my 2005 Bordeaux futures come in, I’ll have to figure out what to do to store those (keeping at least 20 years). As you can see, I’ve only been into this a couple of years, but we all have to start somewhere I guess.
