    the professor and . . .

Plminer, that sound absolutely delicious!! Gary this was one of your best, the chemistry was there and that guy Eric seems like someone really cool to hang with. Lots of fun, and it came across on camera. You should definitely invite him back.
Also the picture with the moose on amazon is halarious!!!

add a bit of jalepenos and onions to the steak and cheese… and you’ve got a damn good meat pie (never had it… but sounds awesome right now).

Kellen Clemons is from my neck of the woods here in Oregon… he’s from a podunk town in NE Oregon. I met him at a damn “pre-marriage” Catholic retreat that you have to go through before you get married a couple years back. So… he may be in Jersey now… but Oregon’s what got him there ;-)

Great show. I just added Eric’s book to my amazon wishlist. Hopefully I got it on there in time for someone to buy it for me for christmas.

    Fun show!
QOTD: Have a West Indian or Spanish style meat pie.
    What’s under the football?

I’m a newbie to wine. I’m 25, and over the past few years my older brother has really gotten into it. I only wish I would have embraced it earlier because it really is good stuff. I for one will definitely read this book, just from his pitch on your show. I’ve been watching for a few weeks now, I’m trying to ‘train’ my palette, I just want to say.. thanks Gary!

QOTD: My in-laws are Estonian, meat pies are regular munchies in their homes. Ground pork and meat with onions and breadcrumbs, deep fried. Everything hand-made, the most delicious yummies I look forward to.

QOTD: nice pie with meatballs, sauce and cheese

QOTD: Assuming you’re looking for something that isn’t usually served in pie form… How about like a burrito. With rice, beans, salsa, chicken, cheese, and salsa, but please hold the sour cream.

No one said cat piss!! You are not allowed to do a New Zealand show featuring Sauvignon Blanc without mentioning cat piss. Get with the program G-Man. Loves me that Allen Scott.

QOTD: In Japan at some of the little french style pastry shops (I know its weird) they do hotdog croissants with ketchup baked right in, they even do versions with sausages. This should be a regular thing at every good bakery.

QOTD: Mincemeat with whiskey baby! I love desert pies and meat pies but nothing can touch my grandmother’s mincemeat pie with whiskey.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for all the great comments. Was really exciting to be on WLT — I was actually kinda nervous… Anyway, if any of you are in NJ, I’ll be at the store on Saturday from 1-4pm. Would love to meet you. If not, send me an email eric@crusheric.com.

BobM: Thanks for respecting mi cajones! In truth, I think one of the reasons the book worked out well was that I had NO IDEA WHAT I WAS DOING…WHATSOEVER. So it was as much naivety as balls, but let it be our secret:

sky: Yes, NZ really IS that beautiful. Every morning I’d look out the window at the vineyard and the mountains beyond. And the sky at night — you can see EVERY star. I never got sick of it. If you go, take at least two weeks and travel around the South Island. It’ll blow your mind.

Firoentina: Candied yams in a pie sounds AWESOME!

Hopper: You’re right, some NZ SBs can get over the top. But I think the best wineries there do a really good job blending every year to keep a consistent style. Hunter’s, from this episode, is a great example. Allan Scott, too, of course. You should also check out Huia if you like a bit more a of a lean, food-friendly style — that’s what those particular winemakers aim for.

RB: If you bake that pie, I’m coming over. No question.

Orion: I admit it, I’m definitely not as cool as Dick Vermeil. But I AM cooler than Dick Cavett, right?

Caren: Wairau River is a good choice. Different winemaker now from when I was there, but the stuff is still consistently very good. Strange story: the founders of that winery had to convince all their neighbors around them and the local farming board to let them plant grapes — everyone thought they were crazy, and almost wouldn’t let them do it.

Lawrence: Flight of the Conchords ROCKS! Very NZ humor.

Dave Canada: Love you too man! ;P

Mike L: Thanks man! Hope you enjoy the book!

Christopher J: that’s right… Cubs fans really are the best fans in the world. NZ cricket fans are actually kind of similar…except they can drink more. Sounds hard to believe, but trust me, it’s true.

Fanjestic: Consider me a fan of YOURS!

grace: I’m very flattered… unlucky for you the camera didn’t show anything BELOW the table! :P

Arthur: That truly is a great combo.

Thanks again, everyone! Will check back in regularly, of course, since I’m a Vayniac too.

Great show – I’m actually a big fan of Eric too! I guess I just like rooting for the young guys in the wine world – especially if they’re down to earth.

QOTD – Apples. I know that’s a lame answer, but Christmas is coming up and my Dad will be making his famous Apple pie. It may or may not be the best in the world, but it’s by far the best apple pie I’ve ever had!

Duale – just bought some through WL and my wife and I are drinking it right now with a pizza hut pizza. And our baby girl sleeps…….oh how Friday nights have changed! (Always for the better)
