Does anyone else worry about plastics leaching into these fine boxed wines? I like the environmentally friendly shipping aspect, but worry about toxicity (and crappy taste).

Speaking of crappy taste, the worst steak I ever had was at Ponderosa in 1983. At least they said it was steak…

The best was on Vancouver Island at Mole – organic, cooked with love. I wonder if they’ll let me byob if I win….

QOTD – Best Steak: Craftsteak at the the MGM in Vegas, it was a Wagyu filet mignon, wow.
    Worst Steak: Denny’s, enough said.

hhmm, The worst was an undercooked rib eye at a place we went to on Valentine’s. The owner insisted that regardless of what the customer wanted he thought all steaks should be rare.

The best was a New York Steak marinated and cooked to perfection on the grill by my boyfriend.

    QOTD:
The Best steak I’ve ever had was likely a bone-in Rib Eye (my favorite) at Angelo & Maxies in NYC. Perfectly seared outside and med. rare inside with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, sauteed mushrooms and onions. I recall having a few pints of Guinness along with that meal. I’m sure the meal was top notch, but the fact that I was eating it with some of my buddies made it even better.

The worst steak? I’m sure there were worse steaks that were forgettable, but I had a rib eye at Sawgrass in Texas that was abominable. My expectations probably made it worse than it was, but I had high hopes being in a steakhouse in Texas.

The best steak ever was the seared prime rib at the Candlelight Lounge in DeWitt, Iowa. The restaurant is no longer with us as the children were not able to carry on the tradition. You could cut it with your fork and it just melted in your mouth when you chewed it, yet it was full of flavor. The worst, my grandmother, she would cook beef until it was dry and tough, you could not go out and play until you ate your dinner. I would sneak pieces to the dog so I would not have to eat as much.

Nice show, I might have to try the Bandit PG.

    Worst:
Served at the oldest Inn in Americam, “The Rhinebeck Beckman Arms”
The steak was served rare after (3) tries… I guess the grill was off duty.
No wines and lots of martinis

    Best:
A home barbed NY Strip steak seved with a 2002 St Supery Dollarhide Ranch Ranch last summer enjoyed with my eldest son.

Interesting take on boxed wine, though I’m still not convinced. I do like the stelvin (screw-cap) closures and perhaps, with time, the boxed wines will get better…

QOTD – Best steak was at Phillipe’s where a triple preparation of beef tenderloin was presented (each with it’s own sauce); fantastic flavors and sauces. Worst steak was the one I found frozen from two-years ago in the garage freezer and still decided to make (ACK!).

    QOTD:
Best… Hmmm… I’d have to say in Autumn of 1995 in a little workman’s restaurant behind the Duomo in Florence. We sat down, didn’t know enough Italian to order lunch and they didn’t know any English. Luckily, they were only serving one thing… bistecca (with salad and mushrooms).

Worst… last weekend I thought I’d save some $$ by buying a steak from Ralph’s instead of Whole [paycheck] Foods. After wrestling with the gristle for half and hour and finally giving up, I re-assembled the inedible bits only to discover that over half of what I bought couldn’t be eaten by a homo sapien. That translated into $10 for 4oz. of steak, or $40/lb. Never again.

The best steak i ever had was a peppercorn new york steak cooked to medium rare chicago style at canyon creek. The worst was definitley with steak and eggs at a greasy spoon.
    Love the show.

Pete Lorenzo’s in Trenton, NJ. The dry aged sirloin, hearty and so damn good! Most overrated, Longhorn Steakhouse. They should have called it Salt Mignon! Awful!

    Lois and Greg

Best steak (recently), the Yachtsman Steakhouse at WDW last month. It was our last day of vacation before returning to NJ. A nice cabernet with it and all was good.
The worst, probably the one that wound up over-well-done on my grill last summer.

Best Steak – Has to be the Bone-in Ribeye from Bonnell’s Restaurant in Fort Worth, TX. They use cattle from this one Burgundy Pasture where all the cows are grass-fed and dry-aged. I believe there was a Tequila Blueberry Demiglace on it. It was just fantastic.
Worst Steak – Probably one that my dad cooked, he can’t do anything without making it well-done. haha

thanks for enlightening episode on the box packs. I am skeptical, but I am also hoping that it will be a positive thing.
Best steak… um I really loved a little place in Portugal, El Brazoa. Their house specialty was a bistec, really delicious with hand cut fries.
Worst… steak off the grill at a party; many of you know what I mean..too much lighter fluid and beer. nuff said.
    cheers!

I prefer to do my steaks at home, dry aged and grilled over natural wood charcoal.

Some of these box wines, like the Bandit, may be ideal for having handy for use in cooking.

Best steak – Ruth’s Chris, worst an all you can eat buffet in a casino in colorado

    Sassodoro

QOTD. Best was probably the one that Christie served at her house when my wife and I came over for dinner one night about 15 years ago. She had some special supplier and it was great. Worst — just about every other steak I’ve ever had. Maybe Montana Legend can change my mind, but most of the time my feeling is that the steak would have been better if it had been ground into hamburger. If the steak isn’t perfect, the texture bothers me.

    Ferrigno

QOTD: best steak is very juicy and marbled and the worst steak is thin and dry! sorry:(

Best steak, Filet at Flemings. Might have had something to do with the good Caymus wine. Worst, Filet on Delta.

  24. December 11, 2007

    Duane Adamson

Best: Lydia Bastianich’s Becco in Manhattan. An aged steak that I could cut with a fork and it melted in my mouth.

Worst: Golden Corral in Indianola, IA. It is now closed, Thank God!

    Dr. Dan

QOTD: I don’t eat many steaks, but I did have a venison steak on New Year’s Eve a couple of years ago that was like butter. I could have chewed it without any teeth–thankfully that wasn’t necessary. Just about any supermarket, plastic-wrapped steak would probably be the worst, if I bought one.
