I'm open to wines in a box, although I feel dubious about them and have never bought one and don't have any plans to. I'm definitely not into wines in a can however, I know Coppola's even doing one of those. I tasted a cuvee de pena rose in a bottle, it wasn't awful for the $2 or 3.99 it cost wholesale.

Best Peter Luger some years ago. Unending T-bones, couldn’t stop eating such succulent steak! Worst – any airplane “steak.”

    Best steak?
Would have to be the Filet Mignon at the Oasis in Manhattan, Montana or a horse steak I had in Luxembourg.
Worst, a flat over cooked so called piece of meat in Cabo. I do not know why I ordered steak. I should of had the tuna.
    Great show Gary.

I had a fantastic steak at the Rattlesnake Cafe in Jackson Hole, WY. It was a Robert Parker recommended restaurant. Everybody at the table tried a bite because it was amazing.

Worst steak – Waffle House in Winston-Salem, NC. It was a mistake, but i worked real late with a colleague and the only place open was this restaurant. I ordered steak and eggs and it needed to be cut with chain saw.

Cool show, very interesting concept. At the retail wine store I work at, we decided to try and sell box wines and our customers were very hesitant to give them a try. I agree Pinot Grigio is an absolut scam. People just have to have their Santa Marg for twice as much as other more enjoyable wines!

QOTD: The most enjoyable steak I have ever had was a medium rare ribeye at a restaurant I forgot the name of. Worst was a steak I had that came along with the salad bar at The Sizzler.

*sigh*…… I had a feeling the episode was going to end up that way. My parents buy boxed wine ( at my disgust ), and Ive never liked any of them. It was fair to give them a shot, though. QOTD: Best steak I ever had was either Ruth’s Chris steak house or one ive made myself. Worst ever is probably either leftover steak reheated ( its NEVER the same ) or a Sizzler ( and no, I havent eaten there in at least 20 years but come on…. its Sizzler!).

Just wondering why the spreadsheet is called Gary’s Rating but only Wine Library’s wines are listed eventhough Gary did rate the other wines? It should list all of the wines tasted IMHO to reflect that the WLTV is about educating which I believe to be so.

  • Boxed wine are major in Sweden too. But there is a best before date rule on all of them, 3-6 months is usually the timespan. You cannot store wine in the box for longer, the die and smell and taste of the plastic packaging and of the sulphur they use to make it possible to even put in the box.

Gary, you should do a new box wine episode. I’ve read that there are a few other brands that might be pretty good. Would love to see you review Dtour Côtes-du-Rhône, Dtour 2004 Mâcon-Villages, and a Black Box wine. I’ve tried the Black Box, and I think it’s pretty serviceable for parties.
