QOTD: This is a tossup. Either “The Butcher Shop” in Dallas, where they let you pick out your own cut and even grill it yourself on the open pit. OR, a medium-rare Filet Mignon at the Graystone in San Diego’s Gaslamp district. I went down the street and bought a Caymus Cab and a Jayson meritage, and they were fantastic with that steak.

Nothing beats a rare filet mignon grilled up on the bbq in the summer.

QOTD: I’m really passionate about deer steaks with sweet sauces.

The best steak I’ve had was a 2 inch thick 45 day dry aged prime boneless rib-eye grilled to medium-rare at a friends place. It cut like butter and was absolutely delicious.

The worst steak, there’s been a few but recently it was a grass fed strip. It had decent flavor but horrible texture. It was tough and chewy even though it was cooked rare or medium-rare.

    Gary,

My favorite steak is the Chicago Ribeye from Carmichael’s in Chicago.

QOTD… Best steak in the Precinct in Cincinnati, Filet Mignon, medium-rare. That’s what being a carnivore is all about. It’s not like a hunk of meat or piece o animal. It’s more like a protein pie with perfect texture and flavor. Worst, was actually a bargain grocery store steak fried in a pan – I will never ever try that again – my kids would not eat more than a teaspoon, my wife soldiering on, and only triple the amount of ketch-up made it edible enough. (Did not want to throw away, the poor beast.)

Xmas pack is great plan. Did I hear you’ll do a separate New Year’s Eve pack?

    Cheers & prosit.

QOTD: The best steak is my own flank steak that has been marinated in red wine, red wine vinegar, seedy mustard, soy, worcestersire sauce, and basil for 12 hours and cooked over medium heat on the grill. The worst steak has to be the Golden Corral’s prime rib. I don’t really think it’s even real meat.

Hope it’s not too late to get in on the contest. I usually watch every day, but I got behind a few days following the birth of my daughter on the 10th!

QOTD: Best steak was filet made on the grill and shared with our neighbors. Worst steak was probably some tough, overcooked piece of beef served to me with A-1 sauce when I was a kid.

Best and worst steak you say. This is gonna be a weird response but I am going to have to say Logan’s Steakhouse for both.

The first time I ate there the steak I had was a disgusting abomination. It must have came from roadkill. It wasn’t cooked the way I ordered, fatty as the first kid knocked out in a dodge ball game and just all around unappetizing.

My friend took me there again this past week (against my wishes I might add) and I ordered the fillet. Holy faith being restored in this place. It was one of the most melt in your mouth steaks I ever ate. I could have eaten 5 of then. If you do check it out go with the roasted veggie skewers. Trust me you won’t be disappointed.

Worst – The Porterhouse that sat under the flame flair up on my grill :(

Great topic! I might have to actually slow down past the box wine section this weekend.

Great show — looks like the box wines did not live up to the hype.

QOTD — best: Capitol Grill in DC filet cooked medium rare (sent fist attempt back; second try was unbelievable!!!)

worst: Outback Filet — I don’t even know if it was beef definitely not a filet.

qotd: my mother made steak the other day. there was leftovers. the next morning before going out i took em out of the owen and dipped them in the brownybrown souce, i even dobbeldipped it. the meat was dry and jiggy, but its so far the best ever. for the worst i would not know.

Best steak – 1 1/2 inch thick ribeye salted both sides for 30 minutes then grilled 5 minutes per side-at home with a cabernet looking at the stars on my back deck.
Worst steak – Piece of shoe leather at an all you can eat local buffet my father and brother like-yuk!

Best steak: About two weeks ago at Chef Meili’s Austrian restaraunt in Seoul, Korea.

Worst: About three years ago when I was in grad school and my roommate and I put some steaks on the grill in the back yard then got distracted and forgot about them. ugh… the dog wouldn’t even eat them.

QOTD: best, could’ve been almost any of the steaks I ate when I lived in Argentina about 20 years ago. Besides Malbecs and Torrontes, Argentines know best how to raise tasty beef!! Worst… sorry, I just can’t remember a bad one (though I’m sure I’ve had them.)

    Great EP!

QOTD: Best ever – 1996, valentine’s day, had a gallagher’s reservation, they refused to seat us! Called Ruth’s Chris from the foyer of Gallagher’s got a reservation for a half hour later. The best filet ever with a bottle of Chateau Simard 1983.

QOTD: Worst – Outback Steakhouse Ribeye. MArbled is one thing, this was a whole different ball o’ fat.

The worst steak I have had, is at Jimmy’s Charhouse. I feel bad saying that because in the N.W Suburbs of chicago, they do a great job. I use to work at Pete Millers in Wheeling IL, the Bone in Ribeye was my Favorite for straight up steaks. The Ribeye trio was fantastic!!! 3 3oz Ribeye’s that had a parmessan crust, a horsradish crust, and a bleu cheese crust. Bone in Ribeyes are the best. But those crusts I mentioned ROCK!@!!!!!

Best Steak: Filet, I grilled. Thick cut medium rare with a wine reduction. Had it with a good bottle of cab. Good night.

Worst Steak: Restaurant in Louisiana, they took a nice filet and overloaded it with Worcestershire sauce. Very heartbreaking.

Also, order the Christmas Pack and some other wine. Some of the wines weren’t available anymore, but your customer service department was great. Thanks.

best steak: herbed marinated skirt steak cooked on coals in my backyard…

Gary V, great idea for a show with the boxed wines. Wish those reds would have panned out better, but oh well. J…E…T…S…jets, jets, jets! Been a rough year Gar, but maybe we can salvage it by bustin’ pretty boy Brady upside his head! Hate the Pat’s with much passion. Anyway, onto best and worst steak..good question. For best gonna have to go with the amazingly delicious 93+ pt effort from the River Palm in Edgewater NJ. Was a Tbone around 32 oz, served sliced on the bone, that came out sizzling, cooked MR to perfection, with juices oozing from all pores..yum! The worst steak…hmmm..has to be the hockey puck I had at Sizzler, circa 1993, in my hometown of Yonkiz. Left my mouth begging for a sip of some Australian fruit bomb to wash away the taste! Only woulda been worse if I actually had to pay for it( my buddy worked there and hooked us up all the time with free crappy food). Anyhoo, you rock, show rocks and down with Belichick!!

The best steak that I ever had was one that I made a couple of years ago for a dinner. If I remember correctly, it was a four pound slab of porterhouse, I rubbed it down and let it sit for 2 hours with a paste of salt, pepper, stone-ground dijon mustard, and worcestershire sauce. Then I put it on huge cast iron skillet and seared both sides of the meat slab and then I threw the steak and skillet in the oven to finish cooking it. About an hour later, I had the most flavorful and tender steak I’d ever had in my life. That along with an English Pale Ale, and I was in heaven!

The worst steak of my life was at a place here in San Antonio called the Crystal Steakhouse (no longer in business, thank God). My girlfriend’s father at the time had won a $600 gift card to this place at his company’s Christmas party. He took us all out for steaks and they were absolutely disgusting! My girlfriend’s sister actually found a hair in her steak. The waitstaff was just as bad as the food. Why were the steaks so bad? They were cold, not cooked properly (raw in the center, almost burnt on the outside), tough, and had a nasty after taste. I’d so don’t ever eat there, but luckily the place is no longer in business.
