Love the theme for the week. Glass lists in NYC are a great source of interesting, food-friendly, off-the-beaten-track bargains. (Well, they’d be bargains if you could find them at retail.) A few months back there was a discussion in the forums about how many grape varieties you’d tried, and I was SHOCKED at the number of posters with otherwise serious wine experience who had barely tried anything that doesn’t come from California or Bordeaux or Australia. Meanwhile, with some memory jogging from the linked checklist, I counted up above 120 varietals before I quit. Drinking by the glass in NY restaurants was the source of nearly all of them.

QOTD: Hearth/Insieme. If you could set something up with Paul Grieco either this week (if possible), or maybe when Terroir opens in a month or two, that would make for a KILLER episode.

Or since that’s a touch obvious for any local wine geek, let me also give a shout out to Franny’s in Prospect Heights, where the beverage program is as deceptively serious as the food. Have had some awesome wine by the glass there.

Excellent!!!! Nice bar, just wondering if

Excellent show!!! Nice bar……but is $15 the norm for wines by the glass in NYC? Prices are less here with a pretty good selection available at many establishments. Either way it’s nice to see you out and about……….

QOTD: I’m exempt from the QOTD, I’m in the CKC and don’t drink wine in restaurants, unless they start selling by the glass in fast food joints.

Cool show Gary, but what happened with the $800 bottle of wine from yesterday??

QOD – A little Italian eatery in Vancouver, WA called La Bottega. Great food and a small selection of very well-chosen wines by the glass. Thankfully, $15/glass is not the norm out here in the boondocks!

Great show, loved it I wonder where it’s off to tomorrow!
QOTD I would have to say the restaurant I work at L’etoile, they have a lot of the wines I like and many half bottles too.

neat idea taking the show on the road…

QOTD: that’s a tough one Gary… I guess I’d have to say my favorite is Delmonicos in Syracuse. It’s my favorite restaurant right now, so I tend to always have a good time there and the wine and food always taste great! My second choice would probably be Rosalies in Skaneateles NY. They’re very much out of my price range, but when I get to go there for business we always have a great time – their wine selection is always awesome.

enjoyed that episode. I still feel the majority of restaurants use their mediocre wines to pour by the glass. A 15-20 bones glass of wine is not a sign. bargain
QOD-Wooden Angel in Beaver,PA. Good wines by the glass, and an excellent cellar with Ridge zins back to the 80’s

GREAT SHOW! Looking forward to the rest of the week.

QOTD: I gotta give props to Cova in Houston. It’s a high end wine store that is also a tapas and wine bar. They have an obscene amount of wine by the glass and always have a few VERY high end kind of things. I’ve had Insignia, Ornellia, and 01 Brunello Riserva’s by the glass there. It’s an amazing concept
