QOTD: Filho’s Cucina, which is conveniently attached to Groton Market, our nice lil wine store.

We recently went to nice place and paid 26.00 dollars on a Murphey Good Fume Blanc only to find it on sale at our grocery store for 5.00. ouch! I hate the mark ups.

Interesting concept with visiting restaurants. Please do this regularly.

My wife and I enjoy the wine at the HOTEL NAUVOO, in Nauvoo Illlinois. http://hotelnauvoo.com/hn/default.asp

They have a great selection of wine from Baxter Vineyard and Winery located in Nauvoo. http://www.nauvoowinery.com/

By the way, Baxter Vineyards was recently featured on Alton Brown’s “Feasting on Asphalt” series on the Food Channel. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z1fUDV1vesQ

    That’s funny.
And I admit it. I’m too cheap…correction…WAY TOO CHEAP to pay the markup restaurants ask on their wine. I am NOT their target market. And call me crazy, but I’d rather blow $100 getting a $90 bottle, and $10 of food cost at home than getting an okay meal and a $25 bottle [marked up out the $@$] at a restaurant.

We have a new wine bar/retail place in Austin called “Fion” which is great! You can pick a bottle off the shelf and taste by the glass, you just need to buy 2 glasses. You can move onto another bottle if you choose, or purchase the bottle with a nominal corkage fee. Great concept and it really seems to be taking off. The staff is very knowledgeable and the atmosphere is very “Texas” casual. We love it.

Really neat episode………….Looking forward to more of the same.

Also, whatever happened to the follow-on Sherry episode??

QOTD: Danial’s was my favorite, but sadly they are no more. At present, I really don’t have a favorite as most of the local restaurants we go to just have the run of the mill stuff………nothing really different.

Great episode, Gary. Too bad though that Andre didn’t put up more powerful wines. But I guess the point wasn’t to show off great bottles. Every sommelier can brag about certain bottles. You were getting a man-on-the-street view. That was cool.

QOTD: Best restaurant to drink wine? It so depends on the mood and the company. I’m in SoCal, so I’ve enjoyed the Los Olivos Cafe (yes, the Sideways restaurant), Mastro’s Steakhouse, AOC Wine Bar, and beyond that, it just depends on good stemware, proper serving temperature, an interesting selection of wines by the glass, and a lucky food-wine pairing.

QOTD: I’ve had my best luck by the glass at Dominick’s on Beverly Blvd in L.A./W. Hollywood. A great variety of Italian wines by the glass that have all been pretty good.

I really enjoy having wines by the glass at Salute in Midtown Manhattan

Good Italian food and some interesting Italian reds by the glass.

Cool location, I really enjoyed Mack. Too bad the tasting at the end was cut short, or maybe it wasn’t!

QOTD: Unfortunately, I haven’t found one yet.

I can live with the Olive Garden answers, but THANK GOD nobody has said Mustard’s!

Andre – what a lovely man. Interesting stuff on the off vintages. I bought some 2000 Brunello last week for less than $25. It tasted like it was worth… around $25.

Very enjoyable episode. QOTD: We rarely eat out, but we do enjoy the food at Becco’s, paired with the selections on the $25 wine list; they’re excellent values and we’ve always enjoyed the staff’s suggestions.

    Thank You! TY! TY!
Great location show! MORE! MORE! MORE! Now that the money’s rolling in, spend a little extra for a wireless mic on Mack. And we’re sure Mott can splice in an orientation shot with you outside the digs (maybe even a Google Earth kmz link).

QOTD: any restaurant where kids aren’t allowed.

Interesting theme but with all the noise as though you were in a kitchen tasting 80+ rated wines at $14-$19 a glass was not one of your better efforts. Did he say that he charges $30 a glass but wouldn’t make any money? He’s kidding right? Only in NY. :(

QOTD: Elizabeth’s Cafe and Winery in Duck, NC (Hands down the best wine restaurant I visit each and every year)

A weak showing by Shelly’s– ouch! QOTD: Bobo in NYC– GV, you’ll love it!

Gary — Awesome episode. Having guests (or going out and visiting guests) really changes the pace of the show–and I liked it!

    Fun episodes lately.
QOTD: Willi’s Wine Bar in Santa Rosa, Ca
or Lola in Dallas (recently had a Sea Smoke ‘05 Botella for
about 58 bones;Van the owner had a half case and did not
    hoard it for himself.)
