QOTD: My favorite place to drink wine is the angus barn in raleigh NC. It has a world famous wine celler with lots of great wines.

EPISODE 367 qotd: Best steak was at my apartment back in the 70’s. A Filet you could cut with a fork.

Worst was at a restaurant in New Orleans for lunch, and the steaks were rotten. Didn’t realize it until I bit into it.

Hope this is not too late. Out of town for a few days.

Gary, thank you for the show. I was able to take clients out tonight to a French restaurant, and for the first time, not be intimidated by the choices… had a 2002 Domaine Nizas Cotes Du Languedoc, excellent QPR because you said excellent values were to be had from the south of Fance. It was funny to overhear someone of much senior age remark, “they have great Bordeaux, from France.” Duh… we are at a French restaurant, with an all French wine menu.

    QOTD:
For fellow Vancouverites (Canada) – Fiddlehead Joe’s Eatery (http://www.fiddleheadjoeseatery.com/), on the seawall below the Burrard Street Bridge. In the winter, a cozy spot to look at the harbour lights and watch the sea taxi putter past. In the summer, a great spot to watch the sunset at 10:00 while enjoying a bottle to the background of sailing tackle chiming in the breeze.

Burrowing Owl Estate Winery, Sonora Room, Okanagan Valley, BC (http://www.bovwine.ca/therestaurant.htm) – 8:00 reservations on the West balcony to watch the sun dive below the mountain laced horizon as the mission bell welcomes more guests.

QOTD: Kilauea Lodge Restaurant, Volcano, Hawai’i.
The food’s nothing special. But the wine list is extensive (especially for the middle of nowhere!) and there is about a $5-$10 markup on the bottles. That’s it!! It’s wonderful. Very nice people, too.

…and oh yeah. Great show! Great idea! We need more of these “Gary on the road” shows. Love it!

The Riverdale Garden in Riverdale, Bronx. 1-Because they have a selection very well picked by its owner, Michael, including wines from Jenny and Francois, importers of excellent French, ‘natural’, small-produced wines. His food is top notch, excellently crafted, especially game and meats–nice space with a garden and deck out back. 2-Because they (at least used to) have a BYOB night, rare in Manhattan for this quality of food.

QOTD: I like Bar Americain’s wine list a lot, but it’s hard to beat Morrell’s selection by the glass. Pricey, but well rounded.

Great show Gary! These shows are a great change of pace from the Table.

QOTD: As much as I love wine, I rarely order it in a restaurant. “By the glass” prices always seem outrageous to me. I usually drink wine only during company dinners (my boss and co-workers are great at picking the wines).

cool episode…i wish more restaurants starting making more thoughtful by-the-glass lists…
always a gamble at how long the bottles are open too…

    QOTD: SLIMS http://slimsrestaurant.com/ in Cincinnati
byob, superb food, communal table, fun and loud.

Love Babbo’s Piedmont selection, but for price and variety, gotta go with Catalan in Houston.

The best so far: Aloque, a little wine bar and cafe in Madrid. The barkeep was really nice, the tapas was amazingly good, and the wine-by-the-glass list was excellent and affordable for a student on a budget!

QOTD: The restaurant where my fiance proposed called Classic Italian Pizza. Its a nice little Mom and Pop Italian place and I love to go there and have a glass of wine by the brick pizza oven. Great place, great wine and great memories.

Hey GV- this seems like an awesome week coming up! Although I have to say I’m glad I don’t pay NYC prices!!! As Lewis Black said, “Even with the plane ticket, it’s cheaper for me to drink all weekend here [Madison, WI] than to drink in NY.”

QOTD: I like the lists at Icon Tapas Bar and at Brasserie V in Madison. Although I have to say, we have the same distributors and I see the markup from what it costs at my wine shop and it makes me very very sad!

That was cool! Interesting perspective to see. Hope you enjoyed.
