Never bought a case of a single wine. I don’t drink enough wine on a regular basis to justify buying cases. When I buy in larger quantities, I buy to cellar, and for that I tend to go with more expensive wines, making cases ungodly expensive.

However, if you put a gun to my head and told me to go buy a case right now, I’d probably come back with the Maurice Ecard Bourgogne Rouge.

I’ve never purchased cases of the same wine however I have with wines from the same region or area. By doing this I have seen what each winery and winemaker has done with that year’s harvest. The last case I collected was a Jorge Ordonez selection with some whites and mostly reds. I love Spain! Gary I’d love to bring you some Colorado wines if I am ever in the area. I’m not saying they will change your life but there are some good quality ones out here. We do other things besides beer you know. Keep up the good work.

Dude. I *HEART* the tone and feel for this episode’s intro (talking about the rescheduling) — even if it’s less over-the-top than usual :)

Great show! As a fellow Baltimorean I’m proud to see DK bringing the thunder. Thanks for the mention about problems shipping wine to Maryland. I had to get my holiday 4 pack shipped to my office in DC and then cart it back on the train.

QTOD: Haven’t purchased a case of a single wine yet. I’m in a buy & drink now mode.

Great show, DK was great, very enjoyable guest. Should have him and his antics on more often if possible.

For years I have bought most of my wine in case lots and still purchase “table/daily” wine that way . Since I am older than Sascha I am beginning to be concerned that many wines I enjoy may outlive me; 2000 porto, 2001 barolo, 2005 bordeaux to name a few. I am now looking at purchasing in smaller lots although my 20 year old sons are still encouraging me to procure in larger lots…we know what they’re thinking.
As I look back I would advise the college viewers to find a way to buy some good wine and perhaps you could store it in a cool spot in your parents basement. I have a few 1975 from the year I was married it is such a treat…history in a bottle.

great episode, DK was right on the nose with those wines. Knowledgeable also which is a big plus. Too bad about his Ravens tho.

QOTD: Don’t have either the knowledge or the funds to throw down on a case. Hopefully in a couple years I will have both and be able to answer the question.

I’ve bought a few cases, but the one that sticks out the most was my case of 2001 Antinori Tignanello which I bought after drinking 3 bottles on the Disney Wonder cruise ship last winter. One of the best investments of my limited wine experience.

I’ve never bought a case, but if I did, it might be the 2005 Domaine de Pierredon Cotes du Rhone. That stuff is cheap but when I tasted it, I was blown away by the quality. It would be an excellent everyday wine I’d like to have on hand. Otherwise, I’d like to buy a case of perhaps Chateau Lascombes or Chateau Margaux and do an ageing test, you know, taste one every few years to see how it evolves.

I have not bought a case in 20 years. 1/2 cases yes of Bordeaux’s and a few CA cabs but usually only 3 bottles of anything nowdays. Great job on the interview today. Enjoyed the guest shots. Keep it up and what do have to bet to get on?

First case of wine I ever bought: 1979 Schmitt Söhne Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett. It was really lovely: incredible, intense burst of Granny Smith apples, a crisp acidity that was as fresh as could be, steely, rain washed granite notes, lingering finish with pears and honesuckle, and an intensely “alive” quality. It was the first wine I fell in love with, and it was affordable enough for a semi-starving grad student to buy.

Everybody that tried it at my tiny apartment loved it, and the wine store ran out. Alas, the 1980 was nowhere near as exciting, and I’ve never really found a Riesling I liked as well.

I just watched your “suck bite” episode with Conan. That was nuts. He must have been a huge personality to keep up with you in a setting like that, day after day. I am impressed. The guy is like seven feet tall in the video. Those guys seem goofy on TV, but they must seem really daring in person.
