I want my $800 dollar wine!!! I was a fan of his rant..watch out Gary, he’s stealing your thunder.

QOTD: I don’t buy any wine by the case, partly because i’m a poor CKC, and partly because I’d always just taste someting new.

  20. December 14, 2007

    DaveyDonut

Gary, I can’t believe you didn’t comment on the fact that with all the T-Shirts he was wearing, he had just about all of them EXCEPT the one with YOU on it. Awww…

QOTD: I love buying cases of wine. I like watching them evolve over time. I do only buy cases of wine that I think will last 10+ years, though. Not really interested in drinking the same wine more than once a year… I think it will be great fun watching them evolve… but in the last year, I have purchased 9 solid cases and 11 half cases… just how I like to roll! If I like it, I want more of it for the future. However, in the last year I have also personally consumed the same bottle of wine 6 times, according to cellar tracker… so just cause I’m buying cases that doesn’t mean I’m not trying new and different things.

    David

  21. December 14, 2007

    Mr.Sato

I can’t remember the last time I laughed so hard as when that guy started going off… and the T-Shirts! I was scared! LOL

Now that I’ve caught my breath… QOTD: Well, like you, I bought a case of wine only once. When I did, it wasn’t because I loved it… it was because it was a great value, and I was going to have a lot of guests. My reason isn’t so much about money, although it is a factor, it is because I just want to keep trying a lot of different wines! As much as I might love a particular wine, the experience if trying new wines is half the fun. That’s why my wife and I decided to start a wine blog… largely so we could just keep track of it all, but also to share the joy we found in tasting so many wines. Of course its nothing compared to the GV show, but then if we could expense it all, we’d probably taste that many, and even waste as much (or not!).

Cheers for a job well done!

  22. December 14, 2007

    waibeans

great show, topping off a great week of WLTV!

QOD.. still have not yet bought a case of wine. The closest I got was buying about 6 of Pillar Box Red about a year ago.

  23. December 14, 2007

    mbannon

Shazam!! What a rant! Nice show.

QOD – Nada. I’ve never purchased more than 4 bottles of any wine. Why say no to 11 bottles that might be just as good? Now, I will admit I’ve had several wines that I wish I could AFFORD to buy a case of, but that’s a different QOD.

  24. December 14, 2007

    Ryan D

Nice show!! Can’t wait to get a chance to go on, though I admit I’d be completely overmatched. Great job by both of you.

Qotd: Haven’t bought a full case of anything yet, but I had a 2006 Erich & Maria Berger Zweigelt that was excellent, and that Les Arnevels WL has had I could buy a case of if it went on sale for $5 again.

  25. December 14, 2007

I’m a nice guy and I never rag on the guests that come on this show, but this guy was really annoying and creepy. Sorry. No QOTD?

  26. December 14, 2007

    Grasshopper

    Sensei,

Technical difficulties? My guess is that you spit into the bucket with all the names and they all stick together???

Know I have mentioned it before, but you have to figure out what to do with the bottles when you have a guest. It looked like you tried, but you moved them back in front of Dave. When I guest host, I am going to move them in front of you…:)

Dave’s got a loaded finger….put that back into the holster cowboy..:) And he peels like an onion!

QOTD – not all in one shipment but….2004 Turnbull Cab, 90 Domaine Du Viking Vouvray and Selipiana Bucerchiale are wines I have gone back after and bought close to 12.

    Great show…nice job Dave!

  27. December 14, 2007

    Kristen

You totally have set the bar high for the Vayner Nation DK!! Way to go with all the tshirts….and btw weren’t you a bit warm? Or does GV keep the whole WL at 65 degrees?

QOTD: I’m part of the CKC, but if I did put away a case of wine it’d be the Finca Sandoval 2005. Yummy even now!

    QotD: (As promised).

None yet. I am still learning what I like, so investing in an entire cae of one wine would slow the learning process. However, I have purchased entire cases of mixed Chardonnay and Gruner Veltliner. IF I were to invest in a single case of one wine, it would have to be Neige Apple Ice Wine ($240 for a case).

  33. December 14, 2007

    Dusty

awesome show. haven’t had a wine i would buy a case of yet. still working on that.

OH, and great show. I’m a new viewer who has been trying hard to catch up, and the surprises keep it interesting. I am trying to immerse myself in wine knowledge, and this show prevents the burnout I had when reading.

That was fun! Not sure I need it on a regular basis, but maybe it would be different if it were me (or you or you get the point). I’ve yet to buy 12 bottles of the same wine, even when I’ve visited a vineyard and bought a case there (always mixed).

  38. December 14, 2007

    Fingerlaker

I tend to no longer buy cases of wine.. the wife thinks its time to have a wine party and alas… i enjoy less and less of the wine that i purchase.. tho i do enjoy sharing (some).

    thanks for the Wegmans love yet again.. we need to get you up here to check out our home in Rochester :}

The co-host did an outstanding job! You guys worked well together.
Also, awesome QOTD, so here goes…

QOTD: Someone above mentioned Jusin Isosceles. I’d agree, but will go with a better value and go with Justin’s “The Orphan.”

RAWK N ROLL. i know there is no “politics” on WLTV, but TJ was the ambassador to france, wanted to change the american palate from whiskey to wine, why not change the governor of MD too. Pennsyltuckey needs a face lift too. is it the original 13 colonies here?
that bottle of pomerol looked good. i must say, just because it has pomerol on the eh bottle, doesn’t mean it is 100%. over the past year, i had some disappointing pomerol. the rough thing is that when it is good, it is sooo damn good.

QOTD: i bought a case of Chateau Quercy, St Emilion, 2005 this summer from the chateau. i still have 4 bottles from a case i bought of the 2001. will be saving them for another 3 years and maybe open one every year after or so. tasty tasty.

  42. December 14, 2007

    HuskerJamie

Way to go DK, that was outstanding.

QOTD: The only thing I’ve ever bought a case is the Sam Smith Winter Welcome, man that’s good stuff.

It’s the start of bi-weekly, Vayniac Guest Couch Friday. Long title for that feature, but sounds great! Are the west coast Vayniacs going to be representing? I don’t expect Gary to fly somebody out twice a month, but it would be fun. But I have to say, today’s guest star holds his own with you, Gary. He really does. Well done!

QOTD: If I had to invest in a case of wine, it would be Duckhorn Goldeneye Pinot Noir 2004 from Anderson Valley, California. Just terrific stuff.

By the way, true story: I was talking about WLTV with someone and when I said Vayniacs, he asked if I said “Veiny C___k’s”. On behalf of all Vayniacs, I handed him a beat down. Our honor is intact, and he will think twice next time before …. nah, he probably won’t.

    VinoVixen

Great ending! I was have expecting a t-shirt with GV’s mug!
QOTD: Well, I just bought a case of Brunello from a winery called San Polino in Tuscany…..tasted while visiting in November and just arrived yesterday:-)I have also pre-ordered a case of Vayniac Cab and I am hoping it’s going to rock my world!

  46. December 14, 2007

    JerseyGirl turned CNY vayniac

QOTD: the only case of wine I’ve ever bought was Glenora Catawba from the fingerlakes. my fave!

have a good weekend everyone! I’m out!

    Steven Wyatt

WOW What a great episode! That DK guy is great, and so articulate on camera. I think Id be a stuttering mess if were sitting next to The GV.

QOTD: Never bought a case, but I think Id LIKE a case of that 2004 Chateau Clos L`eglise Pomerol

  48. December 14, 2007

    AngioRanger

    fun show. Different intensity.
Hard to buy a case of one thing when there so much out there to try new.

    Lurker mode off.

Great show! Slowly getting caught up on old episodes as well, but today’s may be one of my favorites so far.

    QOTD: Pirramimma 2002 Petit Verdot.

  50. December 14, 2007

    Hamstar

Never bought a case of wine, but it’s pretty obvious why you showed this show today instead of Monday.

You were afraid that this show couldn’t be contained until then without reaching the Vayniacs and getting its message across. Which probably is a reality. I still don’t see how you weren’t sweating bullets with all those shirts on, and you made me feel bad for thinking you were a little husky at the beginning of the episode when it was really just the shirts.

  51. December 14, 2007

    Shadowbird

QOTD: Haven’t bought a full case of wine…yet…

Great show! A lot of fun. I loved David’s rant and t-shirt modelling.

QOTD: Never bought a case of a single wine. I like to experiment.

    Glen DiGirolamo

    Good job Dave..!!!

I visited Gainey Vineyards in Santa Ynez, CA and ordered a case right there….and have had several after that.

Now you have to make a XXXL tee shirt for me Gary…!!!

    purplejuicebruce

With out a doubt the best guest/ co-host ever! Great show hope to see more like this one.
QOTD…. only case I’ve bought 2001 Folie a Deux Sangiovese actually bought 4 cases

  56. December 14, 2007

    TommyBoBo of WI

DK!!!! YOU THE MAN!!! that was awesome.. :-) And you are so right,,, get the Vaynernation on a political path to getting these damn laws changed!!! Keep a fire under Garys butt to make it a cause… “this isn’t suppose to be political” BS!!

QOTD:2005 Montviel FROM the WL before they couldn’t ship to WI!
    Have a great weekend ya’ll,,, I”m outta here! ;-)

  57. December 14, 2007

    Jens

QOTD: Many cases…….but to mention a few: Domaine Léon Barral, Cuvée Jadis, Faugères, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 and Cascina Barrichi, Brigante in Fuga (Pinot Nero)Piemonte 1998, 2000 and 2001.

  58. December 14, 2007

    Deano

Great episode!!! Gary it sounds good what you are going to do tobring in some vayniacs on the show. This was a really great episode.

    QOTD:
-Not sure but I do like cabs a lot :)

  59. December 14, 2007

    Dominick Mack

    WLTV INSTANT CLASSIC!
QOTD – never bought a whole case.

  60. December 14, 2007

    Aaron J

I sure do love a good rant! Gets the blood pumpin.”Thunder follows lightning”–classic.

    Have a good weekend everybody!

  61. December 14, 2007

    Siggi from Iceland

Wow I can see that the law are b…. not just here in Iceland, keep up a good work DK

QOTD: Well I got so lucky that I found a case of Tignanello 1999 from Antinori and only for 45$ a peace.

  62. December 14, 2007

    CrazyManAndy

QOTD: I’ve never bought a case of wine, but my father has purchased cases (plural) of Bald Head Red, made by Duplin a local NC winery.

Awesome show! I loved the little look at 3:39 Gary, and the t-shirt flip book was classic! Great job, David, you certainly set the bar high for the future co-hosts!

    Andy

  63. December 14, 2007

    Obama_Man

You could see the HUGE tears on that Pomerol- wow, I’d love to try it!

A side note: I often DREAM about what wines I would pick if I were on WLTV– I’m usually thinking $300 bottles for my own self enjoyment, BUT after seeing the high prices on these wines and knowing that I just can’t get them all, I was deeply saddened. SO, Gary, if you ever do pick me to go on WLTV, I’ll stick to the 10$-30$ price range for the Vayniacs sake :) .

QOTD: The Riondo Prosecco for 9 bones is AMAZING and I’m going through a case every 2 weeks!

  64. December 14, 2007

    KW

Gary – you finally have some real competition for hosting WLTV.
    QOTD: Edgewood Cab – 2002

  65. December 14, 2007

    Dave Canada

    Nice work DK!
    QOTD – 2004 Pontet Canet

  66. December 14, 2007

    Adam

That was an incredible bit of showmanship on DK’s part. Wow, he is the He-Man of Vayniacs. Who says you can’t fight city hall? or even the capital! We have the same alcohol shipping problem here in Wisconsin. How am I supposed to get my mom and dad a holiday pack? I have finals, I don’t have time to drive to Jersey. Gas would cost way more than the wine anyway…

  67. December 14, 2007

    CindyW

Very fun ending to the show — I kept wondering if he was going to strip down to a bare chest. :)

QOTD: we’ve only purchased cases twice, and both times it was about getting a discount more than it was buying a bunch of wine we loved. One case was shared with friends, and the other is the cheap prosecco we drink every Sunday with breakfast.

  68. December 14, 2007

    Robert H.

Really great show! For a first time visitor I really got a lot out of the recommended 3 wines you had on today. I’ll be trying them soon!

  69. December 14, 2007

    Chad O

that ending was pure comedy, i truly am scared if i were to ever be on the show. nicely done!

  70. December 14, 2007

    Neil

QOTD: 5 cases of Mumm Napa Brut for the wedding reception. I know Gary likes to roll with the French stuff, but Mumm for a California wedding fit the bill quite nicely.

Have a great weekend in good health and try to forget that Monday is only two days away.

  71. December 14, 2007

    Zakk Forchilli

Oh man! That guy gave it all! Insane, i love this little friday twist -keep it UP Gary Vee!
P.s. – ordered my christmas pack, and cannot wait. awesome.

  72. December 14, 2007

    Dr T from N. Carolina

QOTD — well, 10 years ago I bought a case of Vin de Table that was seriously underpriced even for the time, does that count?

    “T”

  73. December 14, 2007

    Palmer

QOTD: just one case bought so far — the NV T. Solomon Wellborn Pinot Noir from Tantara. Explosive nose, silky smooth, and just an obnoxious Pinot QPR for $19/bottle.

  74. December 14, 2007

    jimkay

DK’s closing rant makes me think that maybe he should of spit like GV.

    QOTD: Don’t get me started…

  75. December 14, 2007

    GrapeStuff

Great ep. GV! Really like the Friday Vaynerguest concept….Great wines on the ep. today, I really wanna seek out more Duoro wines before they hit it big-time.

It’s great how giddy you both got when you tasted the Pomerol. It’s awesome how a great wine makes one react.

QOTD: Never bought a case of wine. Still trying to taste as much variety as possible.

  76. December 14, 2007

    Whipple

QOTD: If I could, I’d buy a case of the 2005 Peconic Bay Cabernet Franc. But I can’t. Know why? CUZ I LIVE IN INDIANA, BABY! (one of the few states with goofier drinking laws than Maryland … but not Pennsylvania).

David, you were right ON TARGET and well-justified for the rant. I kept waiting for the Sam-Kenison yelling, but I guess you’re more disciplined than I.

  77. December 14, 2007

    Smith MBA

Did Kramer not comb his hair to go for the Seinfeld Kramer look? Gary, letting a Vayniac pillage your store on a Friday is a great concept.

I bought a case of Angelini Pinot Grigio this summer because I could drink it and not think about it and it was cheap.

  78. December 14, 2007

    E

Okay, that had some serious sauce.

How fortunate we are out here in the stix to be able to buy all the wine we want off the internets.

QOD: Three of these and four of those, and I think I bought half a dozen ESJs all at once, but I don’t think I’ve ever bought a full case of anything. Mainly because 1) I don’t have room for that kind of thing, and 2) I’d get bored drinking the same stuff all the time, even if it was something I liked.

  79. December 14, 2007

    DavidB

Excellent ep. Nice job Mr Guest “drinker”.

QOTD: Not counting cases purchased for my wedding, only once, Treana Viogne ‘03 that I found after I thought it was all long gone. It’s my wife’s favorite and you need to do this type of purchase once in a while to allow for the purchase of wines she does not like at all, in other words my wines! :)

  80. December 14, 2007

    Mike L

GV I just wanted to say this was the greatest week for me mostly because I had these great shows to come home to every night. You and your first guest raised the bar really high.

I do hope these out of date laws get thrown under the table once and for all and maybe it’s time for us to get together to make some of these changes. I’m very fortunate to live in Virginia where I can order from the WL!

QOTD: My first case will be an Albarino, I just don’t know which one yet. Thanks for turning me on to all these different wines and champagnes!

  81. December 14, 2007

    Robin C

QOTD: we’ve never bought a case – too many different wines out there
Was that guy a ringer? Very entertaining. Didn’t get a lot of the football references though. You’ll have to explain them in footnotes.

  82. December 14, 2007

    wine-ot

100 pt. show gentelman! it took 371 episodes to finaly capture what wine is all about…hangin’ with friends, nerdin’ with the wines, and bsin’ about life! David, i like your wine selections/balls to choose them and nice job speakin up to the world! QOD – i have yet to find a wine a can’t live without, when that time comes I’ll two case it!

  83. December 14, 2007

    Sara L.

casillero del diablo’s 2005 carmenere. cheap, great, and can drink the case without feeling like you need to save the good stuff for a special occasion.

  84. December 14, 2007

    Pastafari Pirate

Hellyah, homey! Balmer Ravens represent!!! Caw! Caw! Caw!

Hey Mott, where’s the link he asked for, for everyone to email Gov Martin O’Malley, so that the Gov can champion the cause of repairing those stupidass liquor laws? I mean, I’ve purchased FOUR orders from WL, and I’ve had to ship them to friends in VA and TX, fercisakes.

Gary, I’ll be drivin’ up I-95 next summer to pick up my 2005 Bordeaux order, that will give you a chance to put another Raven on the Friday show (and I swear I’ll go easier on the $$ than my homey just did today).

QOTD: haven’t bought an entire case of any wine – yet. If I did, it would probably be the Castano Hecula.

    Caw!! Caw!!

  85. December 14, 2007

So what was the back half of the bet? What if the JETS had actually won? Good Episode, good poise, good wine.

    Christopher J

Good show Gary. You looked scared for the last 3 minutes or so.

QOTD: Never ordered a case. I love trying new wines, plus I don’t usually roll that big.

  87. December 14, 2007

    Tom T.

    Very cool episode.
QOTD the Mazzei Serrata Di Belguardo from a really old episode.

  88. December 14, 2007

    Cabdrinker

Great episode and nice job VaynerGuest!
Guess I need to find a reason to venture out to the East coast and represent the So Cal’ers

  89. December 14, 2007

    Cabdrinker

    Oh yeah – QOTD.

I have never bought a case of something. Six pack is as far as I will go. I would rather have 2 six packs of wine I love versus a case of 1 wine.

    However, I wish I had a case of 1997 S.L.W.C. Cask 23.

All I can say is props man – Great rant and definately set the bar high for future hosting guests. And also, now I think I need to find a Duoro to try.

QOTD – I haven’t bought a case of anything yet, but after the episode with the Hermit Crab from D’Arenberg, I’ve been trying their wines which I’ve really enjoyed. Who knows, I might end up with a case of something from them sometime soon – either the crab, the reisling mix or their GSM.

    So that’s why Gary spits…;-)
    Great show guys, well done!
QOTD: Piña 2004 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon

  92. December 14, 2007

    Kale Knowles

QoTD: I haven’t bought a case of wine yet.

  93. December 14, 2007

    chenrys

That was a fun episode. And the wine was interesting, too. While you’re at it, would you mind contacting someone in Georgia about the corrupt wine distribution network. I would sure like to be able to order from Wine Library.

QOTD: We haven’t bought a case. We prefer to keep trying different wines.

  94. December 14, 2007

    The Original Marc

QOTD: Tried to buy a case of 2002 Fairview Pinotage, which is BY FAR the greatest valued wine I’ve ever had because it was only around $16 and was spectacular. Unfortunately, the guy only had two bottles left and couldn’t get more of that vintage, and nobody has it anywhere else in Iowa.

  95. December 14, 2007

    StephanieF

I have never purchased a box of wine (I’m not ballin’ like that… yet) but I still have yet to find one that I absolutely can not live without. I have found several that would not want to live without though, so it’s close.

Gary, you need to recognize your female fan base!

  96. December 14, 2007

    Scott from Salt Lake

Nice rant David, like yourself I live in a No Ship state and I feel your pain down to my inner core. I highly doubt the Utah Government will ever loosen the laws to allow shipments, even though they estimate loosing over a million dollars a year in tax revenue from not allowing it. Let’s hope the Maryland Gov watches the Thunder Show.

    QOTD: Boxcar Syrah ‘05.

  97. December 14, 2007

    SS Chris

    Great Job DK!!!!!

BTW, you’re ratings of these wines are forever recorded in the SS, and therefore on WL site and in CellarTracker!!!

QOTD: Two of Tensley’s 2005 Syrahs (both the “Colson Canyon” & the “Three Creek”)

  98. December 14, 2007

    JonE

Cheers to Kramer, he’s the best debater of politics I’ve heard in a long time.

    QOTD: Never been done.

  99. December 14, 2007

    Barry

DK, the constant smug look on your face is killing me. We’ll write it off to nerves.

  100. December 14, 2007

    RieslingRon

    DK rocks………..very interesting episode.

QOTD: The only case I’ve bought was 3-4 years ago at the NYS Wine Festival at Watkins Glen. A 100% Merlot from Thirsty Owl Vineyards. Actually, hald of it was a Xmas present for my daughter-in-law, who is wild about Merlot. I drank the other 6 bottles and it was good stuff.

    Robert Howells

    2005 Castano Monastrell.

  102. December 14, 2007

    ScottyZ

I thought DK did a great job today, id still consider myself in the CKC (only 3 years out) and i still struggle to discern the flavors…might help if i drank quality bottles too.

Picked up the xmas pack, planning a wine tasting with the family and specifically my stepdad, who makes his own stuff in the basement. Should be a great time.

QOTD: case of wine? never had the pleasure…did pick up a 12 pack of Great Lakes Christmas Ale tonight, 7.5%, nutmeg, cinnamon. perfection.

  103. December 14, 2007

    Dominus

Hold the glass right Ravens Boy!!!!! On top of that, he shows his face after last week’s spanking at the hands of my boys! Wait, wait, forgot, he’s from Baltimore. :)

Good choices of wines and love the rant. That’s why I have GV’s wine shipped to my office in DC and then I tote them home on the Metro! I think your request to O’Malley will fall on deaf ears. The Supreme Court “may” change it. Hopefully.

QOTD: Not many that’s for sure but one story stands out in my mind which I won’t explain here but the wine is a Laurent-Perrier Chardonnay. I actually bought 6 cases but since the Europeans consider a “case” 6 bottles, it was really only 3.

Go COLTS! And yes, no one, even Namath, is better than Johnny U! Since that debacle/conspiracy in 1969, your Jets have yet to beat the Colts.

    Cheers and GREAT SHOW!

P.S. Can we wish for a Jets victory in the blizzard! Beat the Cheats!

  104. December 14, 2007

    David James

Holy crap Gary, you have competition!

  105. December 14, 2007

    Fred Liu

Eh…You, a little bit shirts and Gary, and guys like that…changing the wine world…

QOTD: A case of 6 bottles of Baron la Rose, Cabernet Cuvee, 2002, which is bottled in China, my country, sold at the price of about 5 USD/bottle. It is just a 83-84 wine with candied pear and caramel nose and ripe apple flavor. But, they sell a lot of 80-83 wines in my county at a 3-time even 4-time price, about 15-20 USD. That is the most cost-effective thing I’ve found across the whole year. I vote to this negociant for my bucks and palate.

  106. December 14, 2007

    MattyO

great show. killer guest. clearly that man knows how to sell wine…or politics…or something…i don’t know. anywho, good stuff.

  107. December 14, 2007

    KVolk

QOTD: Only thing I buy by the case is Bud Light

What a great show!!! DK you not only set the bar high but how did you wear all the shirts without sweating….Unbelievble!!

Also Gary can you do something about the wine bottles in everyones face?

  108. December 14, 2007

    Dave

    QOTD: KAZ Red Said Fred

    Sweet guest!

  109. December 14, 2007

    Justin E

Are you joking I’m in college. I’m drinking a Steven Vincent Crimson I got for 10 bucks!! I splurged and got a Tre Donne Barberra for 15 bucks. If I got a case of wine that would make my year.

  110. December 14, 2007

    pforty

Yikes….cool ep. Way to stick with it.

QOTD: Nicolas Feuillatte NV Brut and Allegrini “la Grola” 2003

  111. December 14, 2007

    The Fanjestic

QOTD: Simi Landslide 2001 was the 1st and one of the very few cases of wine I’ve ever bought. Would I buy a case of it again now, probably not – but not because it was an excellent wine – more because I would rather try more wines than get too many of any one wine. 6 Bottles is typically the most I will do on any wine in any price range any more.

Good Question! Hey Gary – the new changes to the WL site look great!

  112. December 14, 2007

    BruceP

QOTD: 3 times. Vieux Telegraphe Chateauneuf-du-Pape in 04 and 05, and Robert Chevillon futures for the 05 Nuit-Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains.

  113. December 14, 2007

    Candace

Very amusing show. I love the random guest idea. In fact, a fellow vayniac I know would make a phenomenal guest…….Lewy? Anyway, as for the QOTD: Olivier Leflaive Meursault 2005; Land’s Edge Pinot Noir 2005; and if mixed cases counts, Cadence winery WA. They have a great pop and play bottle called the Coda. Check it out if you can.

  114. December 14, 2007

    Harley Stan

WOW, That was probably the best week of WLTV ever, one great episode after another with a great Friday show to finish it off. The Writers Guild can’t compete so they might as well just stay on strike.
QOTD – I haven’t made the plunge into buying a whole case yet, I have started buying everything in pairs so I have one to sip and one to sit. Thanks again for a great week of WLTV!

  115. December 14, 2007

    sqrm

now this was rad and cool!

  116. December 14, 2007

    Mike

Enjoyed the show today; your guest did a great job!!
QOTD – Maryhill 2004 Cab Franc Rose´. We got to try it at the winery and it was on sale AND it tasted great!! Best part – $60.00 out the door!!!

  117. December 14, 2007

    antony

I bought a case of Roger Sabon Chateau Neuf ‘cos it was going cheap and, as it happens, drank a bottle tonight.

  118. December 14, 2007

    Modesto Jeff

Great show guys. DK is a great co-host. I really enjoyed watching.

QOTD: I haven’t bought a full case of anything yet but I’ve had a couple that I would have liked to pick up a case.

  119. December 14, 2007

    getmeacab

LOVE THIS EPISODE!!!!! Almost Classic caliber.

QOTD: I buy a lot of wine by the case, probably 3-4 labels a year, but the first case I ever bought was Two-Buck Chuck.

  120. December 14, 2007

    Tgatesman

QOTD: Biltmore Estate Sangiovese…I got a case because it’s not bad and I got an awesome deal from an inside source.

  121. December 14, 2007

    Brad

I have been watching for about 9 months and this was by far the most enjoyable. The raw, exciting and well delivered participation on the part of David is refreshing. Nice Job.

    Ernest_G

    /me claps.

OMG, couldn’t ask for a better show. Great one. . . for the books.

QOTD: I have ‘yet’ to buy a case, but ‘if’ I would, it had to be 2004 Charles Creek Muy Bonito. So far in my short time drinking wine, that is my fav.

    Peace out!

  123. December 14, 2007

    Beth

I enjoyed the episode. QOTD: Have never bought a case of wine yet. But it’s on my list of things to do.

  124. December 14, 2007

    james marinello

I was leery that this show would live up to the hype of all the comments but it was pretty nice! Great job “overshadowing” GV DK!!!

QOTD – Funny I’ve been tasting wine for about 2years now and haven’t bought a case. I bought a half case of the 04 Schild shiraz and thought it was cooked so the send me another half case free, not questions asked!! So I’ve been able to track it for 2yrs!! But if I were to buy a case it would be anything from Spring Valley!!

  125. December 14, 2007

    Corvette Tony

QOTD: 2003 Lemelson Pinot Noir Cuvee X

  126. December 14, 2007

    Rhonda

Great episode, GO DK! I have never bought a case of wine, so I will have to get back to you on that one!

  127. December 14, 2007

    David Dickinson

Great show! Love the end. I don’t think I own that many shirts. :)
I’ve never bought a case of any wine. There’s too many wines out there to try. I’ve never found one that I wanted 11 more of. I’ve had some good ones, but there’s a lot of fun and sport in experimenting with new wines constantly.

  128. December 14, 2007

    Flavio

QOTD: First case I ever bought was 1994 Talbot when I saw it for $19/bottle at the window of Sherry Lehman in NY (about 5-6 years ago). At the time I liked wine, but didn’t know much about it. Since then, I got into auctions and try to visit one or two retailers every week (incl. the WL, of course). I’ve probably bought 15 or so cases in the last couple of years… mostly 2nd growth Bordeaux and Chateauneuf=du-Pape. Wine is an addiction and love it.

  129. December 14, 2007

    John J.

    Great show guys!

  130. December 14, 2007

  131. December 14, 2007

    mlong

    agree w/ Harley….

One of the best weeks of WLTV ever. Fascinating, interesting…fun. Rock on.

I’d like to see some soms on as well. William was great.

  132. December 14, 2007

    Kevin

    Very entertaining. :)
With all the free-trade talk around the globe, you’d think wine could move from country to country – nevermind state to state – without a ridiculous tariff. It’s a big issue.

QOTD: Not yet. I buy by the case regularly, but not a dozen of the same bottle. And I’ve been buying half cases and splitting them with friends after wine tastings at my home.

  133. December 14, 2007

    Joel M

Have to admit that was pretty cool. Nice job DK. Never bought a case of anything, to much to drink out there.

  134. December 14, 2007

    DannInNH

Episode 351 with your father now has been replaced by this one; great show.

QOTD: Some of the ‘05 Boreaux Futures, Ch Sansonnet/Petit Bocq/Branon and others. Will cellar them for years to capture their full potential. Oh, the Vaniac Cab also. Have to be a supporter of WLTV.

  135. December 14, 2007

    Scott

I like it! GV this is an awesome idea. I can’t wait for my turn. Although, I can’t imagine anyone topping DK. (plus he picked two 91+ point wines.) What a show!
    QOTD: 2005 Morgan Pinot Noir.
A few cases of ‘05 and ‘06 Bordeauxs as well – based on good tastings of earlier vintages, but that’s not quite what you asked…

  136. December 14, 2007

    chris from maui

alright, after watching religiously every day for the last month i am finally posting a comment!!!! im 19 years of age and im starting to learn allot about wine, and i gotta say that without gary i probably would have lost interest. but now im hooked. wine is fun! and im super syked at the approach the thunder show crew is taking toward the wine world. i actually ate dirt the other day ;/ anyways, thanks guys.

QOTD: i have never bought a case of wine…yet. but i like zin, any recommendations ??

  137. December 14, 2007

    Tommy Vernieri

That was fun Gary, I take back my earlier comment about not liking guests on the thunder show.

QOTD: I’ve never bought a case of a single wine, even at different times 4 bottles has been my max on any single wine. There’s just too much good wine out there to try.

Earlier tonight I actually did consider it. We drank the Felline Primitivo and it was awesome. WL is sold out (was $12) so I was looking elsewhere online and considered a case since the the discount brought it down to $13 per bottle. With shipping it would be $17 so I’m going to have to give it a pazzzz.

  138. December 14, 2007

    Sarah L

DK, superb job as guest. I tend to rant about state liquor laws as well. Fortunately, for me, Texas is awaiting the outcome of pending litigation to determine whether its new draconian law will be enforced. I hope not, but I’m not optimistic. The thing that really upsets me is that the bill sailed through the state legislature with little notice or input from the public. The only comments came from businesses that directly benefit from consumers not being allowed to purchase wine from out-of-state vendors. Winery direct sales are not affected.

  139. December 14, 2007

    Mason

Great job, DK! I only hope that I could be that good on WLTV (if I ever get that lucky!).

QOTD: Never have bought a case of wine. I really don’t have that kind of money, nor do I possess any kind of power to make my wife agree that buying that case was a good thing.

  140. December 14, 2007

    Grapedigger

DK was on fire!! Good job…Do not have the $$ to buy cases of a favorite wine…Max. I bought was 6 bottles of Comte de M Ch Kefraya 2000 (48$ and that hurt but was worth it). Cheers

  141. December 14, 2007

    Snarf

QOTD: 2002 Havens Black & Blue, 2004 Punto Final Reserva Malbec (times 2), 2005 Pasodoble

  142. December 14, 2007

Great show…. what a treat to watch
Never bought a case ……with 2008 around the corner I now have a reason

  143. December 14, 2007

    Great job!
    QOTD: 2001 Cafaro Merlot

  144. December 14, 2007

    Keith Brown

You’re right Gary. DK scared me. I can’t hang. Great job!! QOTD: Never bought a case because I don’t have anywhere to store wine. After watching the cellar show, I hope to rectify that soon…

  145. December 14, 2007

    JamesN.

Loved the show!!! both of you took wine and entertainment to the next level. Awesome!
QOTD; I have never purchased a case of any one wine, but my brother purchased a case of 2001 Muga Reserva Rioja, and we split it between 3 of us brothers, I still have 1 bottle.

  146. December 14, 2007

    cgatesman

    Great show! Good job, DK!

QOTD: 2000 Thornton Pinot Blanc. This was the final harvest as the vineyard was lost to a disease. My wife really likes it, so we felt compelled to buy a case (I think we left them with only 2 bottles) since we wouldn’t be able to get it anymore.

  147. December 14, 2007

    2thdr

Absolutely one of the most enjoyable episodes. Its a shame the guest was so shy and afraid to speak out. Jerry the 2thdr

  148. December 14, 2007

    CellarDweller

Another classic episode! This week is bringing ‘07 to an end with some serious thunder.

    QOTD: I’m with the crowd—never bought a case—but I’d looove 11 more bottles of 2005 Glaetzer Amon-Ra. That there’s some good juice.

  149. December 14, 2007

    FJDR

Good luck getting the laws changed, maybe now that Vayner-Nation has been alerted to the issue, there will be a groundswell.
QOTD: I’ve never bought a case.

  150. December 14, 2007

    John P

Gary and DK…What a week on WLTV
Can we get Sasha and DK together too.

QOTD: Never bought a case, but a lot of “six packs”

  151. December 14, 2007

    SteveW

Great Episode. DK killed it, it set the bar high for any future guest hosts.
QOTD: I’m on several winery mailing lists, so a buy a mixed case of Turley Zin’s
and a case of Quilceda Creek which I split with a friend every year.

  152. December 14, 2007

    Lev M

one of the best shows- super genuine. You guys had good chemistry.
we need more vayniacs as guests
QOTD- some kind of Bordeaux that I can drink a bottle of every year and see it change for the better.

  153. December 14, 2007

    Happyuke

Bought a case of Don David Malbec from Argentina,$12.00 Canadian a bottle, awesome wine.
    Hey gary BC wines!!!!

  154. December 14, 2007

    Kylee

One of the best WL episodes in a long time. Been a great week. DK, very cool and really brought the thunder. I unfortunately haven’t bought a case of anything yet. Look forward to the wine what makes me buy one though.

  155. December 14, 2007

    Vinsant

DK proves Vayniacs rule!!! Last case was ‘02 Arbor Crest Merlot at $5 per bottle.

  156. December 14, 2007

    Barry

    Good job DK.

QOTD: Since im in the CKC my case purchase was Gravity Hills Tumbling Tractor Zinfandel. It is a very rich with great chocolate and strawberry flavors and rolling in at $13 a bottle before the case discount it is a must try for you QPR people and my fellow CKC members.

  157. December 14, 2007

    H-Why

DK – Nice job. Gary’s right, you did set the bar high for future guests. Between the Ravens sweatshirt and the four t-shirts, you must have been cooked by the end.

  158. December 15, 2007

    Roberto

GREAT JOB DK! Set the bar high for future guests and that’s a good thing for the wine world. We all need to bone up on our wine education. And football- HS!

QOTD- I do have an affinity for some oak – Shaw Winery in upstate NY East side of Seneca Lake – bought a case three weeks ago of 2005 Cab Sav.(french oaked for 18 months) I purchase many cases made up of a variety – that was the first straight case in a while. Gotta roll big for something you love!

  159. December 15, 2007

    cpd

    Great show!

    QOTD ‘02 Robert Young Scion

  160. December 15, 2007

    Dave

About time someone campaigns against draconian liquor laws. I’m from EU and I’ve enjoyed living in the US but as DK says, you cannot get 95% of the wines on WLTV or many other interesting choices. So in that respect I’m looking forward to getting back home. Although then I won’t be able to get CA wines, not sure I’ll miss out much though.

QOTD: No cases since being in the US because the choices in AR are so limited. But in France; Domaine du Mourchon, 2004 to name just one. It is available in the US but not sure where.

  161. December 15, 2007

    VinOrecul

    DK: “Mott link it up!”.

Welcome to the Birth of the THUNDER VAYNIACS!

Way to go DK! Total pwnage over so many episodes!

QOTD: I have never purchased a WHOLE case. If I did that it would be gone in a week!.

Gary…How about some FEMALE VAYNIACS on the show!…MOTT! LINK THAT UP TOO. :)

  162. December 15, 2007

    In Vino Veritas

DK bringin’ the thunder!!!! Awesome job! Great episode.

  163. December 15, 2007

    Michelle R

Great show! Many funny moments :) Gary, I liked your HSchool story.
QOTD: I’m a CKC and as a result, way too broke for cases.

  164. December 15, 2007

    Joel Walker

QotD: Last case I bought was 2 cases of Stryker Patty’s Patch Zin. I got wine club pricing and I have given most of it away for Christmas, but saved a couple of bottles for Me.

  165. December 15, 2007

    Canadian Chris

wow DK way to go. QOTD: bought a case of Creekside Estate 05 Laura’s Blend. 20 bones a bottle, great value nice wine. Picked up a case to have for the “house” wine, and to give away to friends and family.

QOTD: Out of curiousity, I bought a split of 2002 Rudd Oakville Estate red. It had been rated 96 points and I had never experienced a wine rated so highly. I opened it with my french coworkers and we were all taken by this wine. I went out and bought 12 half-bottles.

The other wine that I bought a case of was the 2003 Chappellet Napa Valley Cabernet, which is delightfully plush.

Of course, the best case value I ever bought was the 2001 Savannah Chanelle Pinot Noir Armagh Vineyard (half-bottles) for $80 (ie: $6.70 each). The full bottles had been selling for $28 each at the winery. I still have 4 left. These are amazing right now. I’m kicking myself for giving away some as gifts.

  170. December 15, 2007

    Saubrey

Great show. I guess the soap on the nose was enough to fill a box for DK to stand on. Get that message out there, man! I can’t even buy alcohol before noon on Sunday here in the TX. Old ass liquor laws are ridiculous. And for the sake of saving some of my soap to wash myself with, I’ll stop there. Thanks GV and DK

  171. December 15, 2007

    Jon B Lodi

    Excellent job, DK! Great passion!

QOTD: We bought a case of Campo de Borja Borsao for something like $4 a bottle about 5 years ago and it did not disappoint. Recently I purchased a case of 2005 Jessie’s Grove Jessence, which is a blend of Viognier, Roussanne and Marsanne. (Gotta admit that I helped make it!)

  172. December 15, 2007

    Greg

    QOTD: 2003 Chateau Sonsonnet

  173. December 15, 2007

    MagnumGourmet

DK really brought the thunder today. I enjoyed the episode quite a bit.

QOTD – Of the 1,000 or so bottles of wine I have purchased (since starting to keep track on cellartracker), there have only been three full cases of wine purchased. Two from Stevens Winery in Woodinville (Viognier and Syrah) and another from Robert Karl Winery in Spokane.

  174. December 15, 2007

Great ep GV , And nice job DK AWESOME stuff .

  175. December 15, 2007

    Timothy Burke

I live in Pennsylvania, so when it comes to laws like that, I don’t have them. I feel the pain and I think it’s time for some Law changes.

QOTD: I am 22, so I just recently have started getting into wines, most thankfully because of WLTV. I have yet to Purchase a case of wine, but I do promise that when I do, I’ll make mention of this episode when I post it in a comment.

  176. December 15, 2007

This episode rocks. And I’m not even a football fan. Great job DK!

QOTD: I lease a Chicago apartment, so I don’t have a personal wine cellar. I don’t want to buy a case of anything until I have someplace stable to cellar it. (Well, unless I plan to drink every bottle within a year.) When that happens, I’ll buy a case of—yes I’m gonna mention it again—2001 Gloria de Ostatu.

Future WLTV guest-hosts: Fabulous! DK will be a hard act to follow, but I look forward to the next guest.

Pomerol: That stuff is my bank account’s kryptonite. I’ve tried to lay off the Pomerol (and Saint Emilion) for most of the year—you know, trying more new things than drinking the things I know—but it’s hard to stay out of the Bordeaux aisles in wine shops. And see, now you’ve given me an excuse to try some ‘05 Pomerols in the $40-60 price range. Like I really needed another excuse. My bank account says, “Gee, thanks Gary. Thanks a lot. Feh.”

Sleeping pills in ice cream: Funniest story I’ve heard in the last 24 hours. Even funnier than the Sasha bread addiction story. My father is also a hardcore bread addict. Your father and mine must’ve been separated at birth.

    wow, what a great ep.

can’t say i’ve had the pleasure of ordering a case of wine, but gary let me say you will be the first to know when i do.

    but again amazing ep.

GV keep up the work man and DK my friend, keep drinking :)

What’s up people????? I just bought a case of Robert Mondavi Reserve 1999. I opened one of them, and it was filled with Black Cherries and leather. It can easily last another 7 years!!!! PEACE!!!!

    MtnCharlie

Great effort DK! You really brought the thunder. Hard to believe we are still trying to repeal prohibition laws.

QOTD: Never have and never intend to buy a case or more of one wine even though I have bought 100 hundreds of wines.

  182. December 15, 2007

    Oregon Jim

Qotd – Showket Sangiovese 1998 at 15 bones. Best US sangio I have come across. Bought a case after sampling a bottle. I am like you though DK, I seldom buy more than three of anything. In fact, of my 300+ bottles I have 180 different wines.

Gary I love the guest idea! You are great with people and it is going to be interesting to see how different palates compare to yours.

    Chinon Rouge

I don’t often buy cases, but here are my few case purchases:

I actually went to France for this:
1996 Château de la Grille Chinon (6 pack)
1999 Château de la Grille Chinon (6 pack)

    and purchased locally:
2004 Château Moncontour Vouvray Brut Château Moncontour (12 pack)

    YoungDave

QOTD: A whole case? Never done that- always a mixed half-case at a time. BUT, if I had to, I guess I’d go with Berco DO Infante 2005 – even I can live with buying a $60 case of a rediculously value-driven wine!

  185. December 15, 2007

    Capt M

Very well done, DK! Very good picks too, made up for a very interesting episode. Very good QOTD too. And here’s my answer: 2004 Charles Underwood Farleigh Zinfandel. Bought a case from WL, and now I’m down to the last three bottles. Trying to keep them there for a while

  186. December 15, 2007

    Hans

Awesome show. QOTD: when I first started getting into wine a few years ago I picked up a case of the 2003 Domaine Grand Veneur Les Champauvins CdR (91 WA, $13). I tend to buy a lot of 6-packs now to drink 2-3 right away and store the rest for a few years to see how they age.

  187. December 15, 2007

    Ohio Bruce

DK, you are my Daddy! Wow, great job. You’ve scared off all of the mere mortals for sure. We have a similar ridiculous law in Ohio imposed by the distributor lobby that now prevents us from “importing” wine from out of state wineries in order to “protect” jobs of Ohio winemakers…

QOTD: Valley of the Moon, Cuvee de la Luna 2002 (2001 was even better!)

  188. December 15, 2007

    is that your lost twin???

    Big Nick

Gary and DK….fantastic episode. I must say that even my kids were pumped to watch this episode. Unfortunately, I live in one of the backwards states that still has shipping laws. Michigan allows for wines to be shipped intrastate, but not interstate. What a croc. It is too bad I do not have access to many of the wines WLTV has and GV reviews. I keep hope that someday it will change.

QOTD: I have never bought a case, I usually only by a single bottle to taste and then go back to buy a few more to drink or store if I liked it.

  190. December 15, 2007

    Cliff and Darcey

Wonderful show … nice to have a fun guest!
QOTD: I liked the Victoria de Longaz so much that it is the ONLY wine I have ever bought a full case of.

Great segment….DK was on a roll, god the guy must have been boiling with all those layers.
QOTD…. have never bought a full case of one wine as there are still too many new wines to taste.

Great episode for the weekend send off, DK did a awesome job!
QOTD I haven’t bought an entire case because I don’t have well enough put together cellar, no real cooling system, put when I do I certainly will.

PS No drawing because no one cut up all the little pieces of paper for gary to pick from.

  194. December 15, 2007

  195. December 15, 2007

    CareyD

QOTD: Probably 2005 Bordeaux, still planning on placing an order. Other than that, never more than 6, and usually no more than 3 of any one thing. I’ve been working hard for less than 2 years to train my palate. I’ve been drinking wine for 12 years but only really paying attention and wanting to learn for less than 2.

Good episode Gary and DK, but boy you were getting me nervous at the end. Alas, your point about the absurdity of interstate wine shipping laws is taken. I’m in Minnesota and used to ship my WL orders into Wisconsin and pick them up there but now have lost even that option because Wisconsin now got dropped from the list.

Make no mistake about it…any politician supporting these restrictions that says “It’s about protecting minors”, or “Protecting local farmers/wineries” is delivering a line of bull. It’s really about protecting a “walled garden” of distributorships and the wholesaling industry, which is super-powerful and super-corrupt.

Having said that, I’m concerned, as Gary is, to keep WLTV free of politics, especially with the US election year coming. There is an organization that could really use a boost from the Vayner Nation though, that seeks to help break down all these artificial barriers on interstate shipping.

    CHATrBox

    Good show! Interesting dynamic there.

QOTD: Wine by the case… I mostly buy in quantities of six, for both cost and storage reasons. However, sometimes there is that special bottle, whether it be quality or price, that causes me to go for the full box. Trespass Vineyard Cab Franc is one such wine. It’s outstanding! I also have a few other local Washington wines I’ve committed to as well, such as Whitman ‘02 Narcissa and Barrister ‘03 Cab Franc, for both price and quality.

    Great Show!

QOTD: Maybe when we have a house we will buy a case to cellar. For now, my “cellar” is the bottom of my 54-bottle wine rack where I plan on keeping bottles for 2-3 years. It is hard for me to say what I would get a case of if I could, an ‘05 bourdoux of some sort. I like mixing it up.

  212. December 15, 2007

    hasbeen

If I buy a case or more of a wine, it is either because I want to try it over time and or give it as gifts in 10 years plus. That way I pay a fairly small amount for what is later and “older vintage” of a good wine. I also will buy a case + when I find an inexpensive wine that I know everyone will love and I know I will want to have several on hand at any given time for friends or family. For instance 1998 Cáceres Reserva Rioja and 2004 Las Rocas Viñas Viejas.

First case: BV Private Reserve 1970 in 1975. It was profound, and I got a case at $8/bottle while I was a broke student. Buying it was such sweet pain.

    W Miree

Wow!!!!! This was absolutely one of the best shows you have ever done! DK was a superb guest, and set a very high tone of expectation for your future “guests” shows. I am really looking forward to them.

QOTD: For about 14 years from the early 80’s to the mid 90’s, I bought quite of number of case lots…mostly in Bordeaux for the 1982-1990 vintages and vintage port in the 1977 vintage, and in Chardonnay for the entire period. Then a combination of my age and a growing interest in a rapidly widening array of wines (Rhones, everything Italian, Spanish, and Burgundies)forced me to cope with the increasing types of wines I was buying by purchasing less of each. Another big factor was the vast increase in the number of great producers in the 90’s. For instance, before the 90’s, there were just a handfull of good pinots from the new world, Tuscan wines, Rhone wines and Spanish wines….now there are inumerable great producers.

QOTD: I have never bought a case of wine because it’s so expensive and at the moment I am trying to learn more about various types of wine. I’m hoping to eventually be in the position economically to eventually buy cases of wine because this can definately become an expensive hobby!

  224. December 15, 2007

First case of wine I ever bought: 1979 Schmitt Söhne Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling Kabinett. It was really lovely: incredible, intense burst of Granny Smith apples, a crisp acidity that was as fresh as could be, steely, rain washed granite notes, lingering finish with pears and honesuckle, and an intensely “alive” quality. It was the first wine I fell in love with, and it was affordable enough for a semi-starving grad student to buy.

Everybody that tried it at my tiny apartment loved it, and the wine store ran out. Alas, the 1980 was nowhere near as exciting, and I’ve never really found a Riesling I liked as well.

  243. December 16, 2007

    J.Rice

I’ve never bought a case, but if I did, it might be the 2005 Domaine de Pierredon Cotes du Rhone. That stuff is cheap but when I tasted it, I was blown away by the quality. It would be an excellent everyday wine I’d like to have on hand. Otherwise, I’d like to buy a case of perhaps Chateau Lascombes or Chateau Margaux and do an ageing test, you know, taste one every few years to see how it evolves.

  244. December 16, 2007

    Paul Abrams

I’ve bought a few cases, but the one that sticks out the most was my case of 2001 Antinori Tignanello which I bought after drinking 3 bottles on the Disney Wonder cruise ship last winter. One of the best investments of my limited wine experience.

    laposte

For years I have bought most of my wine in case lots and still purchase “table/daily” wine that way . Since I am older than Sascha I am beginning to be concerned that many wines I enjoy may outlive me; 2000 porto, 2001 barolo, 2005 bordeaux to name a few. I am now looking at purchasing in smaller lots although my 20 year old sons are still encouraging me to procure in larger lots…we know what they’re thinking.
As I look back I would advise the college viewers to find a way to buy some good wine and perhaps you could store it in a cool spot in your parents basement. I have a few 1975 from the year I was married it is such a treat…history in a bottle.

    Aaron G.

I’ve never purchased cases of the same wine however I have with wines from the same region or area. By doing this I have seen what each winery and winemaker has done with that year’s harvest. The last case I collected was a Jorge Ordonez selection with some whites and mostly reds. I love Spain! Gary I’d love to bring you some Colorado wines if I am ever in the area. I’m not saying they will change your life but there are some good quality ones out here. We do other things besides beer you know. Keep up the good work.

    Triple_J

Never bought a case of a single wine. I don’t drink enough wine on a regular basis to justify buying cases. When I buy in larger quantities, I buy to cellar, and for that I tend to go with more expensive wines, making cases ungodly expensive.

However, if you put a gun to my head and told me to go buy a case right now, I’d probably come back with the Maurice Ecard Bourgogne Rouge.

GREAT show! Who is this guy?? :) Great guest. (Me next, me next! So I can rant about the sucky PA blue laws!)

Oh how the mighty fall, those poor ravens just gave the hopeless dolphins their first victory of the year. At least DK got to try some sweet wine, you should send him a bottle with a giant dolphins logo on it!!

QOTD: Have not had the chance to buy an entire case of one wine yet. I would have to say that if I did, it would be the Vayniac Cab of course.

    Great Show!!
QOTD: 1st case I ever bought was Hogue Genesis Cab 2001 @ Stars in St. Louis

Tiny apartments don’t have room for cases, sadly. Everytime I have a wine I like, I say “I’d buy a case of this!” but I imagine once I have the space I’ll be pretty selective.

Fun show. Some serious wines there. Maybe just a bit TOO MUCH football chatter for those of us not into Jeets or Tiitans. Haven’t bought a whole case of one wine in a couple decades, last being a case of 1981 Ch Angludet, a case of 1982 Ch Angludet, 1981 Ch Priere Lichine, and 1982 Ch Priere Lichine, BUT a recent whole case from WINE LIBRARY of 2005 Cour d’Argent with FREE SHIPPING. Lots of half cases: 1982 Cos d’Estournel, 1982 Gloria, 1982 Gruaud Larose, 1982 Montrose, 2003 Malescot St Exupery, 2000 Clos du Marquis, 2004 Malescot St Exupery, 2005 Malescot, 2000 La Louviere, etc, etc… including Ch Pesquie Quintessence (Ventoux) from free.winelibrary.com. GO SEAHAWKS!!! and Happy Holidays.

Gary just exctly what does “liver fat” smell like (episode 362)???…Actually, not only have I never smelled liver fat, I have never seen liver fat ?? Did you lose your nose when the Browns beat the Jets?

#1; COLOR-cloudy dark; NOSE-this is interesting; mustiness; cherry & raw hamburger meat w/ pepper; fortified PORT action on the finish (caramel, butterscotch); and a Kirsch component; TASTE-one of the most massively rich, explosive cherry pie w/ hints of bacon; secondary flavors of bacon & liver fat; big cherry explosion; hints of white & black pepper; oregano action on the mid-palate; as smooth & complex a fruit bomb as I’ve had in a long time; an imaginary blend of Chateau Beaucastel CDP blended w/ a rich & elegant Colgin Cabernet; a hedonistic Old World, structured & balanced fruit bomb lovely & massive wine; little Frangelico/ Baily’s component on the very tail-end (& a little heat too); the perfect harmony between Old & New World; I love this wine; one of the best CDP’s I’ve ever had w/ a little CaliCab Vanilla-love; a monstrous effort; still tasting the cherry along w/ a little secondary lavender; GV-95

Being a CKC and new to the wine world, I haven’t had the opportunity to buy a whole case of anything. That might be a nice wedding gift when my girlfreind and I take that step.

  270. December 17, 2007

    Shane

Never bought a case. Never fallen in love with a wine that much.

Great episode. Bye the bye Gary, if you ever have me on the show, no way I am letting you slide on setting a bottle in front of my head the whole episode. I will move them. I don’t look good with a wine bottle growing out of my head.

That is a lot of T-shirts. Guess it’s cold in NJ. What no Lurker shirt? Terrible. That would be the first I would wear. It’s funny…like a kick me sign.

    Watch out Gary !!!!!!!!!!

Your guest certainly brought a ton of lightning to the “Thunder Show” !

Simply great ! I have the exact same Bitch about archaic laws here in Massachusetts preventing wine lovers, from opportunities to buy wine where ever they want !

The lobbyist protecting the distributors and retailers have a hold on the politicians; that’s the real bottom line ! I know we’ll be the last state to open the doors.

Fantastic show—— bring on more unknown guests. Have not made a whole case commitment of one wine yet. I still like to mix it up.

  272. December 17, 2007

    Mr.Ambassador

    Great show today.

Good luck Maryland – if I lived there the wine laws would be driving me crazy too; hopefully we’ll see Wine Library shipping to WASHINGTON STATE again soon as well (hint, hint).

Last wine I purchased a full case of: found a great price on FOLEY 2000 Cabernet Sauvignon (Santa Ynez Valley, La Cuesta Vineyard). Bought a case after I sampled a bottle and later found out the winery no longer makes this particular wine.

Serious show!!! I live in Va, and work in DC, both states/districts you can get good vino, but the states next door…no way. I think that the other states would want to do as DK said, cash in on the Alcohol tax cow.

Gary: suggestion, do more of the restaurant travel shows!! Will R. is my boy, nice choice for the establishment

    Great show boys

QOTD: It’s interesting how many people haven’t bought a case of wine before, one of the great joys is watching a wine change over time … Anyway if I had to buy one case it would probably be ‘Grosset Polish Hill Riesling’ – probably the greatest value wine in Australia and a drink that ages and changes remarkably with time (which is what your looking for in buying a dozen bottles to age …)

BTW, favorite wine by the case, Geyser Peak Sauvignon Blanc, it’s the perfect appetizer wine in the summer and it’s a steal at $9.99. Love the Thunder Show!!!

Great show. DK should be an annual guest on WLTV.

QOTD: I never purchased a case of wine for myself, but I did enjoy the following wines enough to buy 6 additional bottles:

2004 Desert Wind Ruah Columbia Valley ($10.00)
2005 Bodegas Arrocal Ribera del Duero ($12.00)
2006 Earthworks Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Valley ($9.00)
2006 Te Kairanga Pinot Noir ($16.00)

QOD: Sutter Home Deaver Vineyards Lot2 1970
My wife bought me a case of 1966 Dow Port of which I have one bottle left.
It is now rose in color – light pink in fact with loads of dark sludgy sediment. It’s been interesting seeing the development.
Have bought mostly ports and sauternes by the case because I like them and they have the history of long age. Have 1977 Taylor, 85 Graham, mixed case of ’94s, 1983 Rieussec 1/2 bottles almost gone, 2001 Rieussec, Suideraut, d’Arche and a few others.

QOTD: About a year ago, I bought a case of the Vin Lobos, Crocodillo Cabernet, Paul Hobbs effort in Mendoza, Argentia. Otherwise, I usually stick with mixed cases for near term consumption.

Thanks again, for another great show.

  292. December 19, 2007

    mmas

I buy cases at least 3-4 times a year.

A must every year is the Buehler Zin, great value for Napa.

Nipozzano Ghianti – another great value wine.

The Cotes Du Rhone of the season, this years is from WL Domaine Brusset Cotes Du Rhone Villages Cairanne

I will also mix in another case or two of value wine. I learned my lesson years ago, when I came across the 2001 Castle Rock Zin that was $10 an brought the Thunder. I turned around and it was GONE! No more, get a bottle or two, taste and then immediately start your hunt to bag a case or two. Even if you do not have a cellar, you will amaze your friends with your find.

  293. December 19, 2007

    Great show! Great job, DK!

I too have only ever purchased an entire case of the same wine at one time: the 2003 Seghesio Sonoma Zin because I was pissed that I did not step up and get a case of the 2002, which really rocked, and the 2003 was pretty good too.

Last case of wine I bought was wild bunch red, because a bunch of my friends have been “wild bunch” members for over 20 years playing softball together. For a $10 wine, not bad.

DK! Epic!! Epic!! You ROCK! Nice job! Seriously, I live in Ohio and until the Supreme Court ruling against Michigan and New York, we were stuck in a similar position. I mean, what is wrong with Maryland? I think I read that it is actually a FELONY to ship wine to Maryland. Come on! FREE THE GRAPES!

    http://www.freethegrapes.org/

QOTD: The first wine I bought a case of was the 2000 Chateau d’Armailhac because it was the only 200 Bordeaux that got decent reviews that I could afford and get in Ohio at the time (summer of 2003).

    I don’t roll heavy in case buys – I am a 3 to 6 bottle buyer.
However, several wines I have bought by the case:

    Elderton Command Shiraz
    Windmill Old Vine Zin
    Pillar Box Red
Four Vines Naked Chardonnay – thanks to GV

I think your co-host is a nice fellow and someone I would like to share a glass of wine with. However he is holding the glass totally wrong. You have to hold the wineglass at the stem or at the base (”the little plate”) of the stem. This is for two reasons: first, it does look more elegant. Second, your wine will be heated by body temperature to a much less extent.

awesome show! great leaders bring about great followers. I have never bought a 12 bottle case of anything, but I did buy a 6bt case of Yalumba Viognier Eden Valley 2004. I am definitely planning to buy cases for my kids…when I have some that is.

This offically makes my top 10 episodes list. I love that guy man, what passion! I agree completely on the laws. There are so many friends I have around the country Id love to send Washington wine to…. cant. Id love to grab wines from you….cant. Complete @#*&#&*@!!!! QOTD: Ive never bought a case, but if I did Id probably buy a case of this Asian Pear wine from a winery in Peshastin, WA. http://www.icicleridgewinery.com (shameless plug). They do really good wines and a case wouldnt break my bank ( though $300 is a lot ), and I know Id enjoy every drop.

DK ranks up there in the top 3 guests in my book, he was hilarious! Exceptional episode and glad I finally got to see it :) Never bought a case of wine, but did buy 3 bottles of 2001 Markus Molitor Auslese Riesling on clearance for $4.95 each! I think the wine shop thought they were getting old, that’s just too funny!

Great episode, DK touching on politics but keeping it vino centric! QOTD: The only wine i’ve bought more than 6 bottles of is De Martino Single Vineyard Malbec, Maule Valley Chile 2006.

    Phredd

That was epic! Fun, fun stuff, and nice find with the hundred-buck chuck. Best pure Vayniac guest.

QOTD: I bought a case of La Fleur des Pins Graves, because it is was such a good QPR at twelve bones. It’s one of the few dessert wines I can pop just ’cause I wanna, and it still delivers quality.
