QOTD: I decant if I am expecting a lot of sediment or if I am drinking what I am sure is a very young wine. Otherwise, why decant? I think that using proper stemware is much more important than proper aeration, especially in the wines I see on the Thunder Show.

I once decanted a wine for 2 weeks and it sucked. I am not sure what all the decanting hype is about.

QOTD: Why not decant? Good reasons have already been posted. Frankly, I don’t drink a whole bottle in a night or two, so I can see the point of the commenter who said he likes to experience the evolution of the wine in the bottle.

Still: there is no excuse for NOT having a decanter on hand. Get one NOW! You will use it on occasion. For other occasions, I like to slow it down and keep the bottle corked.

I agree totally with decanting before drinking, just takes a bit of planning.

Loved this episode. I’m putting together wines and materials for a Bordeaux tasting right now, and this gave me a lot I can use.

QOTD: My husband rarely drinks wine, and I don’t drink a whole bottle myself all at once (or at least, not usually :-) ), and this tends to keep me from decanting. Sometimes if I feel the wine really needs it I’ll decant and then pour what I don’t drink back in the bottle to save for the next day or two. I think after listening to this episode I will resolve to decant more frequently. But — repeating a good question someone else asked — why don’t restaurants decant more often?

Outrageous episode. I have enjoyed a bunch of wines that were Jeff Davis selections. I do not decant because I drink burgundies and I prefer seeing the wine evolve over time in the bottle and glass. JMHO

Wonderful episode! Many thanks to Jeffery Davies, and so many kudos to GV for having him on the show. QOTD: A big YES for decanting! And the decanter does NOT have to cost $100.00, but just have a sufficiently wide base. Yes, yes, yes!

Am I the only one who thought the guest represented the wine world that Gary is trying to change? I enjoy some variety and all perspectives so this was nice, but thank goodness Gary was able to spice is up some by being, well, Gary.

Wow, what a gentleman. Guy knows his stuff. I am going to check out some 2004 Bordeaux and try to find some hidden values out there.

Wow! This was a very educational episode. Awesome guest!

Right on regarding wine being all about the experience. Wine is a living breathing thing so it only makes sense that we relate to it in the context of any other experience.

Why not decant?!?! I don’t have a good reason, so I guess I will.

    great episode, very interesting

QOTD, too lazy to clean the decanter

    Hey Gary and Jeffery

QOTD: I think we decant about every other bottle. I would decant every bottle if I had time. Usually we get home from the gym and start fixing dinner and pop the bottle that we are having. If I have the foresight to pour it into the decanter before we go the gym we would decant all the time.

    GREAT episode.

Great show and guest! I have very little experience with French wine so I enjoy the continued education.

QOTD: I just bought a decanter in Sept and have been using it quite a lot with very positive results.

Nice show! If I could go back to college all over again and change careers, I’d move to Cali and study viticulture…inspiring.

QOTD: I’ve had a decanter now for 2 years, and always use it at home! Love it.

that guy was full of info. spoke quietly but swings a very big wine stick. his QOTD: don’t have a decanter yet…but hopefully under my christmas tree this year. in the past i haven’t partly because i can’t and partly because i like to see how it changes the longer it’s opened in the bottle.

Great show GV. Really enjoyed JD’s comments and insight. I will break out the decanter for the holidays and give my reds a big swirl and some breathing room. Thanks for the suggestions.

Have a Merry and a Happy.

Great show, as always. I really enjoyed Mr. Daniels as a guest!

QOTD: CKC’s generally don’t have decanters because they are always in danger of being used by roommates for inappropriate reasons…or the RA thinks they are drug paraphernalia.

Just kidding. But seriously, I don’t have one, though it’s on my Christmas list! Hopefully someone notices…

QOTD: Why not decant?, time. Hello New Year’s resolution decant, actually a Christmas 4 pack resolution

re: Lindsey’s comment: “Only complaint would be the volume. Ever think about using mics?” If you’re going to add mics, upgrade to HD also.

QOTD: I don’t decant yet. I’m waiting for Santa to bring me one this year. & if Santa didn’t get my hint, then I’ll be buying one on Dec 26th.
