What a fantastic episode! That guy has so much information to give out…very informative.

QOTD: I am ashamed to say that I have a decanter, and I have never used it! After watching this show, I will actually try it out and test it at different times and see what it has to show.

QOTD: I always decant. I have a half bottle decanter if I only want a half bottle.

I’m just now getting to watch this episode and it’s GREAT. Thanks for having Jeffrey Davies on! This was fun to watch. Lots of good info, delivered without a condescending or intimidating attitude. Gotta love it.

QOTD: My decanter gets an obscene amount of use. I decant almost every red wine I drink at home (when I know which wine I’ll want ahead of time), and this year I began decanting several whites.

Decanters make great gifts for wine-drinking friends & family members. I’m giving a couple away myself this year.

    QOTD: You’re kidding me here.

I always decant (except 2002 Jocelyn Cab). I was standing in the tasting room at Provenance Vineyards as a guy was buying my favorite Merlot (the 2002 Las Amigas). I suggested he decant it for 90 minutes and he would be rewarded. He tried to give excuses as to why he probably couldn’t. (I suggested he open something else to drink during the 90 minutes.) Finally, he agreed that he would do so. During the discussion, the wine-club lady mentioned that the wine maker Tom Rinaldi practically preaches about decantiing.

My mom and sister both hate me for being such a decanter nazi, but I think it’s worth it and well worth the wait.

QOTD- love decanting, usually can squeeze in an hour before drinking, sometimes have to pop & pour, but prefer not to…have seen so many wines open up with just a little love…

Great episode. That was one of my all-time favorites!

Thank you Jeffery! Please come back and visit with ‘us’ again someday.

Mainly don’t decant because I don’t have a decanter. I’m hoping someone rectifies that this Christmas. Cross your fingers for me!

Decanting is fine and dandy, but requires some planning and requires time I don’t always have. That said, if I know I want to have a wine with my dinner, I’ll decant.

I’m always surprised just how much a few hours in a decanter can help a wine though! I had a wine last week that I popped, poured, and drank and thought was pretty darn awful. I only made it halfway through the bottle, so I re-corked and gave it a chance the next day after decanting for 5 hours. Wowza! Mega difference! Still not amazing, but definitely a MUCH better.

Wow, it is refreshing to hear something good that global warming does. Everyone just assumes that global warming is horrible, I think we would all be better off if it were a little warmer! Time to look on the bright side, it is absolutely freezing in the Midwest, has been since Thanksgiving, well below average.

QOTD: Can’t drink that much wine in one sitting, as I am the only wine drinker in the house.

Great show Gary. I really enjoyed listening to Jeffery explain the many different facets that affect the final product. I hope you keep some of the stones that Jeffery brought as a gift to you.

QOTD: I often decant wine into a small decanter. My wife doesn’t really drink wine, so I decant maybe two glasses worth of wine when I get home and enjoy it with dinner.

Try to convince the shivering folks in the midwest and east about global warming. Who’s next on the Thunder Show, Al Gore?

QOTD: I decant virtually every bottle of wine I serve, except for sparklers and some whites. Cheers! AMAZING episode.

QOTD: I usually decant all my reds, since they are young and usually full bodied. Some I decant for just a short time others I will decant for an hour or 2.

I have bin watching for over 1 and half years now and this show is by far the best show (no offence Gary) and I totally agree on the makeup issue
QOTD: because we don’t have wine rules!

Great episode! The biggest reason I don’t usually decant is poor planning.

QOTD: I like to decant nice wines, however I am drinking mostly Montenegrin wines at the moment (I live in Serbia) that I don’t think would really live through a good decanting. Though maybe I will try it latter this week. They are reasonably priced here so if dies I will just throw it on the stove with some spices and make spiced wine. The wife likes that. Then I will just pop open a Prosecco.

Gary-QOTD: I don’t really own a decanter but do just leave the bottle open on most all of my wines. I do leave the bottle open for at least one hour before all reds are consumed. :)

    qotd: “why not …”
A: as an on premise wine buyer/suggester, I find a few reasons not to decant: 1. given the season, the next bottle i open might be a sparkler; 2.i’ve tasted and sell a few bottles that begin to lose their appeal after they open up, therefore if they are the next bottle i open, they should be served immediately after opening;… shit, even these reasons why not to decant seem spurious. Let’s try to decant a champagne, let’s see how that ‘07 chilean cab/carmenere tastes with a few hours of breath…. More importantly, how bout today’s guest’s use of the term meniscus???

    Great Show!!!!

QOTD: I actually do decant all my french wines, but very rarely decant any wines from Cali or elsewhere….don’t know why…I just dont.

I always get crap for decanting nearly everything! Not about to stop anytime soon though. Wonderful show. Just marvelous.
