QOTD – I think that WLTV will be approached by a big network to develop something more mainstream. but Gary will turn them down because he’d be giving up control. Plus, he’d be selling out by becoming one more talking head that convinces people to drink wine sight unseen (or palate untasted as the case may be) because he says it’s good.

    Happy holidays!!!!

2008: I predict Wine Library TV will be picked up on a local Jersey public access tv channel. You fame will spread throughout the Garden State!

QOTD: I think MagnumGourmet hit it on the head and really that’s a shame because this show is completely RADOOL!

Also, when are we gonna see a big azz glass like that one that was in the cellar show? yes the 4 foot tall one…

  18. December 21, 2007

    BobM

Yay! My holiday 4-pack arrived today. Gary, I predict that WLTV will become so popular that it will start to draw criticism in the wine press or in mainstream coverage of the wine scene. People will try to make a big issue of you having a conflict of interest, but your audience won’t give a damn because they’ll actually watch the episodes and see you dissing wines that you carry in the store. And besides, they’ll be having too much fun to care.

  19. December 21, 2007

    Zakk Forchilli

QOTD – I think in early 2008 at least, you will still be doing the same thing, with a little more radoolness.. I hope to see some awesome radoolness!

And, im pretty sure you should make a Mott link it up shirt. God its such a good idea, pump it up Vayiniacs! JEEZ!

    Amazing ending. ha.

    Little Jonny H

I foresee winelibrarytv continuing to appease the value seekers by tasting many wines in the 10-15 dollar range (more from S. Am?,) and also continuing to test the RP and Advocate ratings. However, I think that GV may go back to his roots a bit and do more educational episodes: vertical tastings, and maybe an episode or two on wines that have been opened for varying amounts of time (or decanted vs. not).

Most importantly, the Vayniac Nation will triple in size as GV does more televised events!

  21. December 21, 2007

    Unfortunately, Sadool is not Radool…

    QOTD: Staying underground FTW!

QOTD: Guest expert on a China Wine Tour!

You are way to smart for the Food Network. (Don’t even think it).
Keep doing what you are doing, and how you are doing it. I’m a relative “newbee” to the show, but since I hooked onto you a couple of months ago,
I’m really getting into what you are saying. Nice show today, but who knows, I might spend my year end bonus on one of those $50 bottles.

  24. December 21, 2007

    jimkay

Tough question – It all depends on the time GV can devote to the show. I’ve seen several web related ventures peter out over 2 to 4 years. It must take a lot of effort to keep the show going. As other responsibilites come up in your life, it will be harder to take the time to keep it on the air. I can see GV replacing himslef with another dedicated host, or even a series of hosts to keep it going. I could also see a long sabbitical, short return and then an end. Lets hope not, for now anyway, because it has been a great run for us viewers.

  25. December 21, 2007

    Siggi from Iceland

    Good show

QOTD: ok don’t, just don’t go to the large networks, cause I wouldn’t want to see you selling wines that you don’t like just cause there are more money involved(witch happens all the time) but the Vayniac Nation will get bigger and bigger:D + add more food with wine shows:P

  26. December 21, 2007

    Senor Sangria

QOTD: You’ll start your own Wine Lover Internet TV Channel… You’ll have your own writers and video producers. You’ll have a total of 700 episodes.

Then eventually you’ll branch out to beer and mixed drinks. When you do let me know i can surely help you out.

    Cheers!

I think it would be cool if you hit the streets and talked to some natives about wine. Maybe even grab a couple of them and brought them into WLTV!!!! And for the Wine Fools you talked about in episode 288, I definately think you are going to add a couple wine stands in you’re show. You know, like Keg stands!!! But with the one and only, FRANZIA!!!! PEACE!!!

QOTD: Besides the Colts repeating as Super Bowl Champs, I believe WLTV becomes more interactive with regards to its viewers by allowing them to IM or iVideo in real time during the show. One big happy winefest.

    Cheers!

    chenrys

    Interesting show…enjoyed the mix.

QOTD: 2008…more viewers…more quest appearances and special settings. Same great GV and Thunder aspects.

  41. December 21, 2007

    wine-ot

QOD – don’t make me buy a tv gv….this show is the only thing keeping me from doing so! As for the future…you love it too much to leave, i’m not worried!

  42. December 21, 2007

    CareyD

    Great show Gary!
    Really enjoyed it!

QOTD: I predict MORE OF THE SAME from WLTV. I say that believing the show really hit it’s stride this year, especially the last few months. I like road shoots, I like special guests…but like a good wine, they need to be kept in balance. Gary, you (and the wines of course!) are the reason we watch. So as long as the balance is in check…I say bring it on!

(P.S. I have not missed ONE SINGLE EPISODE…not ONE!)

Thanks again for all you do…

I hope WLTV stays just as it is, however, growth and change is good and if the demand and dollars are there……..

I think the statement that the “Mott” shirt isn’t happening is a load of you know what.

I too G-Man, have always been a fan of classy not slutty.

Love the Mahi! Just drank my last bottle of Nimbus. Time to order some Mahi.

QOTD: WLTV will hire me to replace GV as host. We will review only German Rieslings exclusively – Ja, zat vill be fun! Auf Wiedersehn….

  49. December 21, 2007

    nickel and dimed

Probably the best pure GV show I’ve seen. Big Ups Gary. You were like the Clio today. Lots of Barry, not a lot of TO.

  50. December 21, 2007

    Rock n Roll Andy

Yo Gary Thunderchuk, Mott RULES but the show doesn’t have to change at all to keep us Wine Geeks watching!! LIVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!

  51. December 21, 2007

    tyson crosbie

I think you will garner a greater audience and in doing so will become even more frustrated at the ratio of lurkers to posters.

The show is great and I wish you the best in 2008.

  52. December 21, 2007

    Annapolitan

QOTD: Gary, by the end of 08 the President of the U.S. will be seen extending his glass and pouring some wine on the table as a salute to his White House guest. This will become the rage and necessitate the creation of the Thunder Pad to place on the table to catch the wine. Thunder Pads will sell in the millions and become an art form in itself.Padools will be Radool. Cheap knock-offs from China will enter the country, but will be unworthy of a Padoolspill. The craze of Padoolspilling will of course run to excess in the CKC whose anxious parents and profs will point their fingers at you,GV , and you will be villified by the press and compared to the Oak Monster.

  53. December 21, 2007

    Kev and Ams

QOTD: I see a new opening and a new closing for the show. Also, more guests and contests. =)

  54. December 21, 2007

    jahlove

QOTD: My prediction for WLTV in 08. Lots more guest appearances by industry people and Vayniacs alike. More on-the-road episodes. More contests. More give-a-ways. More schwag. At least 8 free shipping announcements. Continued diversification. You know… more of the good stuff.

  55. December 21, 2007

    Antonio Touriño

in 2008 you’ll change the name of the show to “The Mott, Link it up, Show!”

    Yeah!

  56. December 21, 2007

    Geoff

QOTD: in 2008 free shipping codes every day! j/k. My guess is more secret pack / semi interactive type stuff.

  57. December 21, 2007

    michaeloxford

For 2008, could we have a monthly GangTasting and have a shipment of wines sent to us so we could taste along with you. The Christmas Eve show will be my first such, but every time you have this tastalong, I want to be involved.

  58. December 21, 2007

QOTD: Hey, about syndication or franchise?!
GV, whatever happened to the lazy friday couch, it is missed; “Mott, couch it up!”
    Have a great weekend everyone.

how about drinking some wine, people should come for the wine.
the other day you said something about drinking some older bottles. i like that idea a lot.

    qotd:
more wine tasting. why mess with a good thing?

  62. December 21, 2007

    ChrisR

PERFECT TIMING!! Gary, you saved me 60 bones. Was going to pull the trigger on the Clio and de Crasto today. Based on your reviews, maybe I should just put that money into the Chateau Angelus 2005. I’ve had my eye on it for months now.

  63. December 21, 2007

    Paul M

QOTD: prediction … no TV (but probably have to turn down a couple of more offers) … Paul Shaffer will leave Letterman and join the show as musical director and Stuttering John Melendez will leave Leno to become the announcer … Tonight on The Thunder Show special guest appearance by Robert Parker with Paul Shaffer and the band and now heeeeeeeere’s Gary Vay-Ner-Chuck!

  64. December 21, 2007

    tj & sf

qotd: in 2008 gary will start a second internet show exclusively about football so that he may return to actually doing a wine show and gary will begin using 2 buckets…one for spitting and the second for wasing wine. the latter of which he will place behind wine library at 5:30pm.

  65. December 21, 2007

    portland guy

QOTD – Interest in the show will wane, signaling the need for a format change. But demands on your time will affect what that change will be. Personally, I would like to see fewer shows — say, 2 or 3 per week — but with increased emphasis on quality. Perhaps 1 show a week will be a panel of 3 or 4 ‘co-hosts’ who will taste and discuss a few wines, another show will include a ’special’ guest. And a third (and last) will be you doing the usual.

  66. December 21, 2007

    Michel Dugas

Hi Gary in 2008 you will do another buch of shows, another buch of vaynyach wine and maybe buy the Jets but I wish you a kid because it’s THE gift of life as wine is…

I would buy a “link it up, Mott!” t-shirt. Don’t give up yet G-ary!!!

  68. December 21, 2007

    DannInNH

QOTD: Shows will be M-W-F with more guests. Format is good, but the recent show with Jeff Davies was what is needed, he represents the wineries and that is needed, IMHO.

  69. December 21, 2007

    Jordan

QOTD: dude don’t go on TV cuz part of why WLTV is cool is that it’s online and slightly anti-establishment – 2008 brings more thunder and wines from off the beaten track from places like hungary, romania, michigan, virginia, brazil, and uruguay

  70. December 21, 2007

    chitown_wino

QOTD- 2008 will see over 1000 comments on days you give nothing away!

  74. December 21, 2007

    waibeans

QOD: predictions about things that will NOT happen in 2008 for WLTV and the WL

1: there will Not be a wish list incorporated into the website

2: the store will Not enlarge it’s parking lot forcing people to continue to park at the Taco Bell next door

3: you will Not be making a WLTV trip to Tampa in 2008!!

lol!!!! hopefully i’m wrong on these tho hahahah!

    have a good holiday GV

  75. December 21, 2007

    billyg

I hope the show concentrates on great values from established regions, like yesterday’s Bordeaux show. I think that is where we learn that under-marketed wines with great tradition can be tremendous values.

  76. December 21, 2007

    Stanvh

Mott –> Link it up! Tee. I vote YES. Another Radool show Gary.

  77. December 21, 2007

    Monstrose

QOTD: The Vayniacs become the soccer moms of the 2008 election, forcing candidates to trust their own palates rather than focus groups and thus changing American politics forever.

  78. December 21, 2007

    KVolk

QOTD: I predict that the “Mott, Link it up” T-shirt will out sell all other merchandise except the vino.

This show was the essence of the Thudershow…..”Mott, Link it up!!”

  79. December 21, 2007

    Grapedigger

Great show as usual. I think the show will be essentially similar in 08 with mild modifications..It’d be good to keep it under 20 min and choose as much as possible the widely available wines..Having guests on a regular basis would be great. I think it’d be very interesting -for the viewers and for yourself – to have a blind tasting show once per week. Keep it up G.
    Cheers and happy holidays

  80. December 21, 2007

    Joe Hendricks

    QOTD:
I bet that you rate a Texas wine in the 90’s!
Have you had any great wines from Texas yet?

    Joe

  81. December 21, 2007

    Achilles Mike

QOTD I think you.ll add greater depth for the show by having more guests, and creating as always the super energy you convey for wines- and maybe even the Jets will win!!

  82. December 21, 2007

    Barry

QOTD: I am totally unsure of whats going to happen, but ill tell you what I want to happen. FOOD NETWORK BABY, right before Emeril! You got the energy Gary and you’re show would destroy some of the junk they have on the Food Network!

  83. December 21, 2007

    Grapedigger

Hey G., what happened to the drawing for the big fat 6L Silver Oak?

  84. December 21, 2007

    Tom T.

QOTD you will break the camera lense with a cork.
You or Mott will let a loud fart loose on an episode.

  85. December 21, 2007

    Anthony L.

Love the 1980’s NWA wrestling metatphors, keep em coming Garry.

QOTD” Prediction for 2008 is that Gary will be picked up by the Food Network, become immensely popular and then get his own day time talk show. In otherwords, he’ll be the new Rachel Ray. By January 2009 he’ll be doing those annoying Dunkin Donuts commercials.

  86. December 21, 2007

    Jason Dallas

QOTD: “Mott link it up” becomes more popular than “Don’t tase me Bro”

  87. December 21, 2007

    Araldite

I don’t know what you’re going to be doing in 2008, but if you lose your credibility, you’re going to be shit.

  88. December 21, 2007

    Scott

Great show. Focused yet you still had time for your entertaining sidewinding metaphors.

    QOTD:
Mott will leave the show when he gets recruited as cinematographer for Spielberg’s next film.
“Mott, Link it up” t-shirts will then skyrocket in value as if they were 2005 premier grand crus.
You will make a terrible effort to record you own theme song. We’ll all make fun of you for it.
    Seriously:
GV becomes a daddy and the thundershow has some episodes recorded in your basement, then moves to a two or three day a week show.
The show will have more guests and more off-site recordings.
    I’ll keep watching and commenting.

  89. December 21, 2007

    VinoPhilosopher

In the year two thousand and eight I predict that the thunder show will have Robert Parker as a guest wherein Mr. Parker will confess that he secretly admires and is obsessed with the thunder show and GV, and also publicly concedes that he has been deposed as the king of all wine by GV.

  90. December 21, 2007

    Mike S,

Thought it was a great show today. I would love to see 2008 be what you have been doing with the show over the past couple of months. Really enjoy the off site episodes (cellar, wine bars, etc.) and the guests. I have to say that I miss the laid back Friday and answering our questions. To be honest, it would make me sad if you decide to go to TV. Not sure why, but I do think that the internet is the perfect medium for the show.

  91. December 21, 2007

    RANDI

I was drinking club soda and listening to your description of the Clio wine, it made me laugh so hard and suddenly that the bubbles went up my nose. (I gave the club soda a 94) Great show. 2008 will catapult you into some serious super stardom w/gigantor celebrity guest hosts, your own line of sunglasses, a guest appearance on SNL and posers popping up everywhere trying to steal your thunder. :)

  92. December 21, 2007

    Canadian Chris

QOTD: welp, I could see the thunder show getting picked up by FoodTV or something similar, but I think that might not be such a good thing. The interactive-ness of the show as it is now is what makes it so freakin cool IMHO. How the heck are ya gonna say “Mott, link it up!!” on FoodTV? I see the show taking off – on stage6, on joost, more internet exposure. I also imagine GV having a tough time not becoming just another guy people look to for ratings. Keep up the great job boys. And bring on the Mott, link it up shirt!

  93. December 21, 2007

    Cabel

Great show! Yes, I have been one of the lurkers, am coming out now. I predict that in 2008 your online viewer base will triple. Your show is high energy and made sor those of us who aren’t “som’s”, but love wines of all shapes and sizes. Taking my Vay-Ner-Chuck list to the wine store with me tomorrow, will let you know what I think of the wines we decide on! Keep up the great work! Shouts to all the people behind the scenes who make it come together!

    -Chris

    Darlene O.

    Great show, Gary!! QOD: Maybe a field trip once a week. The cellar/wine bar episodes were radool and ridonculous! Loved those. Maybe each week you take us on a field trip to a ‘Winery ‘O The Week’ and we do a tour. OR…in ‘08 you become a vintner yourself…it’s all good. :}

  95. December 21, 2007

    Michael Mohammadi

I think the “Link it up Mott” is a cool T-Shirt idea, but I agree that it might not do that well, at least yet.

QOTD: WLTV will continue producing 5 episodes per week for the first few months of 2008 but a busy schedule as well as other commitments will steal GV’s time away from producing daily shows by April or May. Vayniacs will not fret though, as the quality of the shows will be even higher than before and the time GV spends on other commitments will benefit all of us viewers. WLTV will continue entertaining , educating, and changing the wine world. I wish you the best.

    Happy Holidays!

QOTD – more or less status quo, except bigger web audience and no movement into TV. gary, i think if you were on TV, your style will get diluted to attract a bigger, more lucrative but definitely less cool audience. then you’ll fade away into mediocrity and eventual cancellation, like emeril live. and that would completely suck!

  97. December 21, 2007

    The Doc

I predict the thunder show will be more of the same, or at least I hope. Honest, fun, entertaining, informative, and mostly humble to the fact that it is just wine, and in the grand scheme of things enjoy life to the fullest with the people that matter. And yes, Mott link that up!!!!
(C’mon Gary, not the first time I have left that)

  98. December 21, 2007

    Dan B

You get your own show on cable, where you become bigger than Martha Stewart. With your own product lines of everything wine related and a magazine of course. I WANT A MOTT LINK IT UP TSHIRT TOO. Especially since I can’t get anything else from you here in WI.
FAVRE 4 EVER , LINK THAT UP SUCKA

  99. December 21, 2007

    Matt Munsey

Today’s show was great. Cloudl reall see how you were into it. Not that you aren’t always into into it, but there was definitely an electricity about today show.

QOTD: I would imagine that things would be a bit bigger by this time next year. More apps, more followers, and more lurkers. But most of all, by this time next year I will know a lot more anout wine. That is my prediction. Thanks Gary!

  100. December 21, 2007

    ktw

qotd – more changing of the wine world
ps – i agree with all comments referring to laid back friday on the couch, we need more of that

  101. December 22, 2007

    Achilleas

Great show – the only thing I regret is not being able to buy a lot of the wines you show as I live in Cyprus.

    QOTD
    —-
    1. TVWL continues to kick some serious derriere in 2008
    2. LINK IT UP MOTT T-shirts become a great success and exceed sales of 100,000
    3. GV will do the show in different countries
    4. GV will become a daddy – baby will have bottle shaped milk bottle to prepare him for later life
    5. WLTV will give away a $10,000 bottle of wine sponsored by a company
    6. The Jets will win a few games

    Keep on Bringing the Thunder!

  102. December 22, 2007

    Jprva

QOTD: In 2008 we will definitely see a great deal more of Gary’s portmanteaux. I also predict we will see Gary taste a lot more wine. Also, Mott will get a raise. Additionally, loyal Chicago vayniacs will begin making a yearly pilgrimage to WL after they can no longer order online, though they will just have to put down the bottle long enough to pick a date.

  103. December 22, 2007

    Carly

Awesome show…would love to find that chardonnay to gift to some staunch Kendall-Jackson lovers!

QOTD: The Thunder Show is going to be picked up and syndicated for television…no guesses as to which network, but you have a personality that will not/should not be confined to the Internets!

P.S. “boughten”…*shudder* (way worse than goosenberry!!)

  104. December 22, 2007

    HO

    QOTD
Judging from the last several guest hosts you had I think you will share the mic more in 2008.
We are all looking forward to the Christmas wine tasting with you
    Scott

  105. December 22, 2007

    Christopher J

QOTD: You will be doing the same great show as always, if not better. And, of course, be the number one show on the Internet, hands down.

  106. December 22, 2007

    mikey lennon

QOTD: Much more of the same, guests, visits, and contests. Maybe multiple shows with other people reviewing other alcoholic beverages.

  107. December 22, 2007

    JP

QOTD: My prediction- GV successfully lobbies legislatures to get laws changed so he can offer FREE shipping to all 50 states, and to celebrate, he comes to my place to help me drink that honkin’ 6L bottle I’m gonna win next week. or not.
    PEACE

  108. December 22, 2007

    Vegas Rob

Great show, Gary!! I liked how you kicked it up a Notch! SO this is my 3rd post with many more to come… Does that still make me a lurker? Hmmmmmm….. QTOD-Not only will the “Thunder Show” be a huge hit online, it will be aired in mini episodes on the Food Network and on NBC… And maybe you’ll take Emeril’s place on the Food Network! Oh yeah Babe!!

  109. December 22, 2007

    MattyO

this is the kind of show that makes me want to watch WLTV all day every day. awesome job gary.

QOTD: i forsee gary doing a guest appearence on “good morning america”. what i would love to see is gary on the colbert report! THAT would be awesome!

  110. December 22, 2007

    jfoobar

QOTD: I predict a recurring guest host. I predict Mott will get his own sitcom. I predict you will be bringing the sad as the Jets will be better but not make-the-playoffs better. I predict I will come up and visit your store at some point since the Wine Gods hate us Marylanders and you can’t ship to us.

  111. December 22, 2007

    Scott EJ

    GV,

I only hope WL will branch out into something such as an import/export business in the midwest. With Illinois gone soon, this may have to become a reality.

If Indiana falls (which it probably will), it would make sense to look at Chicago as a fantastic small set-up shop.

There is a huge market waiting for you here!!

  112. December 22, 2007

    Vegas Rob

Oh yeah, One more QOTD Prediction- Not only was your Christmas wine tasting a success, you will air your Superbowl Wine Tasting Extravaganza during Halftime which will be a huge hit, while everyone else is watching Britney Spears’ Flopping around the field. Afterwards my Jaguars will come from behind yet again, and defeat the Packers 31-28 in an instant Classic!! Crazy, I know, but I only speak the truth!

  113. December 22, 2007

    “…a little Flint Stone component… Yabba-Dabba-Doo…”

    Cookiedds

In 2008 I predict you will be relocating the show to Montana where cows out-number humans 4 to 1 and fewer than 1 million people live in the entire state. Wine tastes better at higher altitudes and I predict your scores will increase accordingly. I predict on location shows at area ski resorts with Saint Bernards delivering the wines in casks hanging from their collars. I predict The Iowa Hawkeyes will finish better than they did this year and get back to a decent bowl game.

  115. December 22, 2007

    Rick Watts

    Gary,
new to your show and just wanted to say that I love your enthusiasm and passion for what you do. keep it up! also, I didn’t want to be a lurker :)

kinda disappointed that there won’t be a “Link it up Mott” T-shirt :)

Today’s show was so focused and on point that I decided to leave another comment. I haven’t seen you that into the wines in a long time… Nice work my man.

qotd the wine world will finally change and all over people will start to buy wine they have never heard of! tasting groups will spring up in far away places like BFE.

QOTD: Happy holidays all! Here are a few predictions of mine:

    1. Jets are NOT gonna win Superbowl but you’ll still obsess over them on the show, hahaha… I know this one will get ya! :D
    2. For a less obvious predictions… Gary V bi-monthly Wine Magazines!

Finishing up the ‘02 Ch de Piras with some Mahon Curado; each of them is better off by itself.

    What will 2K8 bring?

    More couch.
    More dirt and rocks.
    More Tannat.
More weird-ass Italian grapes I’ve never heard of.
More varieties from Washington and Oregon that you wouldn’t think they’d be growing in Washington and Oregon.
    More guests.
    More Mott.

  123. December 22, 2007

    Sky Mayhew

In 2008 the demand for Gary to get on another late night talk show will be so great that they will end the writers strike just to bring more thunder to main stream media.

  124. December 22, 2007

    CRZYWinemaker

GV, great descriptions on the wine today,I could almost smell and taste each one of them. I’m glad you still don’t shy away from being brutally honest even when it’s very obvious you really want to give kudo’s to a wine that you’ve really liked in previous vintages.

QOTD: I predict more celebrity endorsements on the T-show and regular off-site tastings at various hot spots. Keep the Thunder rolling ~ CW

  125. December 22, 2007

QOTD: GV will bring WLTV to Jay Leno and David Letterman and make them eat dirt!

also GV will get a Food Network special about how we are all changing the wine world.

    WLTV continues its Radoolness!

  128. December 22, 2007

    Mike Z

QOTD: In 2008, we will see the Thunder Show going to a more “On Location” format. It’ll be fun at first. There will be upstart boutique wineries, slick businessmen, and wine-associated companies hurting for publicity all trying to jump on the GV train (… like that? almost sounds like the ‘gravy train’) and get GV to do a show at their place. Then, things will start to sour. The “Oak Monster” will become a friendly, plush toy. Sweaty socks and asparagus-smelling wines will become a BAD thing. Gary will start to cheer for the Patriots… It’s all part of Gary’s slow, inevitable march toward the temptation to sell out to Marvin Shanken. Will he resist? Stay tuned. We’ll know in 2008.

Man you’ve got me excited about that Mahi. Too Bad about the reds. As far as Spain and Portugal go, I know lots of wines at half that price that would kick far more ass. Happy Holidays to everyone!

In 2008 the earth will quake at the awakening of a new age of wine enthusiasts. This onset will be induced by none other than Gary Vaynerchuk. People not afraid to reconceptualize their world will be released from their cocoons of inexperience and doubt and will be jet propelled into a future where the enjoyment of wine is not limited by knowledge or taught by any man, but is instead complimented by the love of wine and the mystique of culture and the urge to get out and try something new!.

About Quintessa, taken from the web: Quintessa is a selection from 170 acres of vineyards, mostly planted to cabernet sauvignon, along with merlot and small blocks of cabernet franc, petit verdot and carmenre.

I would love to find the Mahi over here in Germany!

2008: Try new things! Please go and seek out more “new” stuff for us… My recent experiences for instance with Brazil wines were really mind opening! I think in 2008 you will get the honor for changing the wine world since EP#1! What ever that means ;)

Would the shirt be, “Mott, link it up!”, or would it be, “Like it up, Mott!”? Cuz I’m not too big on option A, but I like option B.

  138. December 22, 2007

    Bob Sikorski

I think that your own idea of more guests wil be important. You need strong guests who will interest your viewers and interest you. You have to avoid getting bored with yur own format. Strong guests should help. Going off-site is a lot of work, and it dosn’t change the wine. However, going off-site may help if it makes more guests available to you. Another advantage of off-site is the possibility that it could help marketing.
Just go with your gut, and good luck!

  139. December 22, 2007

Nice show very to the point but more or less on the expensive side. I bet by this time next year you will embrace the oak monster.

Rowdy show gary! thanks for brining in the Jumilla (ITS ABOUT TIME)!!! Interesting fruit bomb i bet, most of the Jumillas i have been drinking lately are a polar opposite of your description of the the Clio. Most of em have that earth, and acidic backbone that make me keep coming back. great episode!! p.s. MORE JUMILLA ON THE SHOW!!!!

    billr

    Nice show…even at 6am.

QOTD: I am not sure what to expect for 2008. After watching Episode #374 and then going back and watching Episode #18 I did see something that I liked in both episodes that you use to do in most of those earlier episodes that you have almost stopped doing in the past 100 or so episodes. Want to know what it is??? More detail about the wine, the grape, the region, the people behind the vineyard that particular wine comes from. Tell us a story like Mr Davies did on almost every wine you two tasted. You use to do that a lot but don’t seem to do it much anymore. I would rather watch you taste two wines and then tell us a story behind them than to watch you go through three, four or five wines and no story. I am fairly new to wine and if you want to keep us new Vayniacs or “want to be’s” attention for any amount of time I think 2008 needs to be a lot of the same thing you already do along with an “old twist” of telling us more about the wine. Don’t get me wrong, I love watching what you do but I really think Episode #374 showed me what I would really like to see for 2008. Bottom line: JUST KEEP ON DOING IT but maybe a little more info.

  145. December 22, 2007

    Big Nick

Gary….spent many months just lurking while I caught up on all (and I mean all) of the past episodes here on the site. I got to see your evolution in a much shorter time frame than the vayniaks that have been here from day one. I guess the best part of the show is that we get to hear and learn about wines, from a guy that is so grounded in his youth that he is comfortable making Ric Flair comparisons. I am not sure TV is your calling, politics plays too big of a role and th often determine who you should be. Don’t change just for TV, your real niche is here doing small focused video bloggin where you control the content and the direction. Keep it up, and best of luck in ‘08.

For 2008 I see more guest appearances and more guest spots for yourself on broadcast TV. The forming or partnering of an IP TV conglomerate to bring down broadcast television would be nice to have.

From a french point of view…
QOTD: Hope with 2008 this kind of program will keep on… wltv viewers will always keep an open mind considering their wine purchases, hope gary and his team will not follow the wine trend and will keep on helping me to define better the customers’ attitude and feeling about wine.
2K8 is supposed to be balanced gary just look at this perfect figure 8
Thank you for educating and entertaining us gary !

  154. December 22, 2007

    Wanger

    QOTD:

You’re going to do an episode focusing on bottle-to-bottle variation. You’ve panned wines that others liked (you know, the Duoro).

I’ve bought cases where most bottles were really good, one was crap, and one was awesome. Where does that come from? I know you’ll say mind-set, but there’s more to it than that.

It would be interesting to do three bottles of the same wine. (Or maybe, just talk about your experience with this phenomenon)

  155. December 22, 2007

    Derek

Rockin show Gary, some really great wine !!!!

QOTD: I hope nothing changes with the thundershow in 2008, I love it the way it is.

  156. December 22, 2007

    HeadWino

QOTD: What’s up in 08′? (or should consider)
    1) Build a new food pairing channel on WLTV. Different host (must have GV flair but have credentials with food. GV guest stars once in a while.
    2) When GV travels do more road shows with local people/wineries. Aids in the marketing of WL.
    3) Is a Food Network special on tasting somewhere in the near future?
    4) More focus on “value” driven wines. Would bet the majority of viewers would like to be able to buy 10$-20$ wines. We can experience more variety with the modest priced wines.
    5) Continue your efforts in demystifying French wines. More education.
    6) More segments with 4-pak mystery wines. (Christmas pak like.)

Great shows, has really helped me identity different wines to try that I wouldn’t have ever known before.

    Yo, Gar’

This is from one of your lurkers… Don’t give this thing up in ‘08 (’09, ‘10…). I drop in every now and then and the show (and your work) just keeps getting better. I’d hate to see you sell out like Rachel Ray, Emeril…

I REALLY don’t want to have you staring over my shoulder from a display at the local wine shop.

WLTV is real, honest, true… The heavy hitters can learn from you without you having to sell out in ‘08 or any other year. Keep this very good thing going. Like some whites and many reds, it can only improve with age.

  158. December 22, 2007

    Capt M

Love Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc! We kind of miss the goosenberry; you may coin that word. Great review on the Whitney’s; looks so seducing and inviting. You had too high spectations on the Quinta do Crasto. The color and tint on the El Nido Clio!! What is the score on the Quintessa? Did I miss it? Great show, five solid wines, very successful episode. QOTD: Double the amount of viewers, half the amount of lurkers, Capt M as guest on an episode, more and exciting contests, Lizzy will be expecting. Merry Christmas Gary and Family!

  159. December 22, 2007

Too bad that Douro was disappointing, Portugal wines are usually great.

QOTD: Gary stays true to his fans and, dispite his better business judgement, gives free shipping on all items!

  164. December 22, 2007

    Sassodoro

Good show, Gary! Very let’s-focus-on-the-wine. Too bad about the Quinta do Crasto Reserva. I bought a bottle of the 2004, but I haven’t tried it yet. I hope it’s better than the 2005. I have to say that I tried a bottle of the non-reserva 2005, and I didn’t think much of it. In the past I have thought that their non-reservas have offered good value, but not so much lately.

QOTD. I don’t know what to predict. I think HeadWino had some good suggestions.

  165. December 22, 2007

    Kim Schroeder

QOTD: Gary hosts his own show on the Food Network and decides to have a mystery 4 pack of wine every month so viewers can tune in and taste with him AND we get a ‘Mott Link It Up’ T-Shirt! Happy Holidays!

  166. December 22, 2007

    Matt

QOTD: I’m getting a vision…there will be two vacation/tours available where Vaniacs from across the globe can gather with their savant guide GV for a few days to enjoy 1) an unspecified region of CA, and, 2) the crush in NZ…or France…or Italy…or Spain…wherever. Hell, Amsterdam has some interesting bars!

    Wine Lush

QOTD: I hope for more road shows. But Gary you need to do whats right for you! Hip and Heart, right????

I have forwarded this episode to two dozen of my friends. You validated my opinion of the Clio. I thought it was fakey and no heart. Not even a tin mans heart. Good wine, but hollow, it simply had no soul. I of course got verbally drawn, quartered and TRASHED at the tasting by my colleagues as a result. Thanks for the honesty. Keep it Real!!!

I’m so sad about the Mott tshirt! If you’ve already trademarked it on the chalkboard, then why not put it on a tshirt?

QOTD: Stuff that’s on the road (Vayniac Cab anyone?), more older wines, and perhaps an international trip?

  171. December 22, 2007

Gary, hope you keep your format the same. Do other things but keep the Thunder Show the way it is. My prediction is that you will.

    GV,

Great EP, can not beleive how nervous I was about you tasting the 05 Clio! Even though you were slighty down on it’s “over the toppness”, we will still look forward to drinking ours when we are in the mood for a new world fruit bomb. Cause once in while that is exactly what the doctor orders and there are none better than the Clio!!

Funny to hear you complain about $8.00 Pommegranite juice and then tell us how much you like $100 grape juice…..:)

The Mahi SB sounded wonderful and might make me pull the trigger on one more 2007 shipment!

Loved the flint reference..yabba dabba doo!

QOTD – You are going to do a 2008 episode of WLTV in the Hoppers kitchen when we win the Firstgiving prize!!!

QOTD: I would say that in 2008 you will make some top ten list for Americas most Facinating people…. You are growing so fast it is scary….. :)

    Mr.Sato

You know, I ALMOST bought that ‘05 Quinta Do Crasto the other day, but opted on a different choice. Thanks for affirming that I made the right choice! Espcially since it is 35 bucks at my favorite retailer.

QOTD I don’t know! LOL I mean, you’re going in the right direction, obviously, by having variety in your show… guests, restaurants, vineyards around the world… what more can we ask? Of course, the integration of corkd.com is looming, so I guess that will probably be the first “big” change, which I’m looking forward to. Maybe you can so some tastings from random picks from people’s cok’d cellars. Mine is in there, so maybe I’ll get lucky [finally]. :)

  175. December 22, 2007

    Mr.Sato

OH, I forgot! Of all the T-Shirt possibilities so far, Mott Link It Up would be the one to make my buy one. I think it is an excellent idea, and SHOULD go forward!

  176. December 22, 2007

    Richard Bakker

I predict that in 2008 the show will go on network TV and that Gary will sell the wine library and go into the hot tub business.

QOTD…..Can’t predict but I sure hope you can pace yourself and not burn out.
So many demands on your time and energy it will be hard to keep focused on what is important. Love the show the way it has progressed so far. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Great show, Gary! The Whitney and Quintessa sound delicious.

It’s always nice to see an episode with wines that surprise you(both good and bad). QOTD—you will have a left coast store by the end of ‘08!!!!!!

QOTD: In 2008, Gary finally gives in to demand and produces a “Mott, link it up” shirt.

  182. December 22, 2007

Funny show GV. This episode may be my new pick for introducing newbies to your show (my old standby has been the episode where you take a bite out of your desk). Prediction for 2008? I think you’ve caught the bug for doing travelling shows, and I see more visits to restaurants and wine bars. I’m telling you – integrate WLTV into your trips across the country. But don’t go over the top with it; make it a once in a while thing. People keep watching because of what you’re doing NOW. Fun twists now and again keep it fresh, but it wouldn’t be WLTV without the red tablecloth, corks flying at the camera, and the chalkboard in the background. Like I tell you every time – keep it real.

  183. December 22, 2007

    KW

QOTD: As WLTV becomes more popular, your time will become more limited so you may have to back down from daily shows to either weekly or a few times a week I still don’t know how you find the time to do or record a show for each weekday.

  184. December 22, 2007

    ChadD.

What? No Link it Up shirt? Bollocks!!!!Hey, at some point you will get sick of doing these everyday…will it be next year? Who knows.

Gary great episode i wish i could afford to try that quintessa.

    QOTD:
-It will get better and bigger than ever and i am sure many surprises are on the way.

  186. December 22, 2007

    David Dadekian

Gary, I hadn’t watched the last two episodes until today, but I’m saddened to hear you won’t be making a “link it up, Mott” t-shirt. I find myself saying it often. I even said it to my wife the other day and she had no idea what I was saying. It’s worth a t.

QOTD: Not so much a prediction as a suggestion/advice. Stay digital. Get an ad sales employee (or consulting co.) and formulate a good plan for not being a tv show (be it on the sadly declining Food Network, which I loved, or any other network). Own your content. Maybe sell it to cable and satellite distributors as an on-demand show, but traditional TV is more and more dead every day.

  187. December 22, 2007

    Benny Morosco

QOTD: Its as old as time the popularity come s in and then the fame and good fortune then before you know it Gary will be doing a sydicated show and become a LURKER OWNER!!!!! haha well I for one hope not..DON’T FORGET THE LITTLE PEOPLE WHEN YOU BECOME A MONSTER WINE GUY!!

    PSS::::MOTT LINK IT UP…..

please make a “linK it uo mott” shirt please please!!!! I think the store needs to franchise and you should open one in Washington State!!

  189. December 22, 2007

    TxBigD

QOTD… My wife and I love “The Thunder Show” and have begun spreading the word. The average reception tells me that your popularity will continue to grow by leaps and bounds in ‘08! If you continue as a price-point leader on the web, your internet sales continue growing, maybe even surge ahead making you VERY RICH. That’s a concern! Please don’t retire… there’s no one else out there with your talent to reach out us (on our level). The wine world needs you. It’s not completely “changed” yet! If and when you find yourself finiacially set for life… try free shipping to Texas, or buy Chase Manhattan!?

Happy Holidays and keep up the good work, Buddy.

  190. December 22, 2007

    Sharon

Oh, I would love to try that El Nido Clio sometime … that would be a bit of a splurge for me. I *like* ott fruit bombs.
QOTD: Well, I think GV deserves his own TV show on Food Network in 2008. Something like “Gary’s Wine World” where he would devote each show to educating the public about a type or varietal or chateaus or producer. There would be a tasting part where Gary tastes representative wines, and a tour of the area/winery. At the end would be a celebrity wine-enthusiast guest like Maynard Keenan that GV would interview. No one will be forced to eat dirt :o ).
Or… I’d be happy if GV kept on doing what he’s been doing on WLTV, yeah! He’s completely entertaining! I like the educational aspect just as much as the tastings/ratings.

  191. December 22, 2007

    manpod

I predict Gary goes on the road for more episodes, visiting winemakers, and an occasional consumer.
Kind of like Ricky and Lucy going to San Fran, or the Brady Bunch going to Hawaii.

QOTD: My advice for 08′ Keep doing what you’re doing. With the vayniac cab, the show, and the family, I’m sure you’ll have enough to do. I think you should focus on wine and not the celeb factor. Start mixin and making the JUICE! With your growing name, people will want it on there bottles.

  195. December 22, 2007

    Jersey Girl Turned CNY Vayniac

good episode today Gary! when will the show be back from the holidays?

QOTD: I dont really know where the show is going. I’m sure it will continue to grow in popularity and awesomeness… perhaps more TV appearances by gary? either way, the show will continue to rock! Thanks Gary!

  196. December 22, 2007

    Robin C

I’m anxious to try the Mahi.

QOTD: Gary will continue to follow his star. He will retire the catchword “radool”. A show will be taped from a box at a Jets game. As always, free shipping if they win.

  206. December 22, 2007

    Mike L

Great show! Speaking of Mott shirts. I’d wear one. You gotta do something!

QOTD: I see you bringing in guests. Mostly I predict that you will try to keep things as they flowed this year. I don’t see anything happening next year that would be too too major, just my thought.

  207. December 22, 2007

    Withnail

Great episode. I like it when GV tackles a variety of sought-after, interesting wines. (Themed, regional shows are good, too, but I’d like to see a show like this every week or two.)

QOTD: The return of laid-back Fridays on the couch

  208. December 22, 2007

    Lindsay

Mmm, El Nido. Gimme fruit! *making a note to pick up the Mahi at work*

QOTD: For 2008, I expect more contests, more interaction – hopefully including more “taste-alongs” – and more on-site shows, like the cellar one. That was really cool.

I predict Vayniacs coming together in groups across the country (as some of us have in Madison!) and one of the contests including a group tasting/taping.

I am also hoping 2008 brings some wonderful and much-needed changes in SHIPPING LAWS so I can ship WineLibrary to Wisconsin! Stupid archaic rules.

  209. December 22, 2007

    Bigsigar

    Great Show!

QOTD: For 2008, I am thinking an episode taped from the WL Super Tasting. It would have to begin with the camera panning across every bottle out to give Vayniacs a true idea of what an awesome event it really is. Prizes to Vayniacs who show up with any kind of Vayner-nation id.

I see Gary going far this year, with the continued expanding of America’s culinary awareness, which is evident from the continued sucess of Foot TV, and the myriad of other food/wine inspired programs, as well as the number of stores geared towards the gormet food (Chef-Central, BB&B, Williams-Sonoma) and wine enthusiast (upscale “liquor stores” that have begun to really branch out their wine selection).

With America begining to experiment with so many different cuisines, cultures, and tastes, the wine world is right there with it. With the food/wine episodes that Gary is starting to increase, I think Food TV is a distinct possibility. It really doesn’t have any programming that focuses on this particular subject. For instance, the wine & steak show had me drooling for a Medium Rare New York Strip. Knowing what to pair with everything from Mexican to Thai to Sushi, in addition to the tradional French, Contemporary American, and Italian pairings, would be welcome on my TV set indeed.

To everyone, have a Happy Holiday Season and a Safe and Prosperous New Year.

  210. December 22, 2007

    Bigsigar

    OOOPS!

I meant Food TV, not Foot TV.

Foot TV would be that traditional wine crushing channel.

  211. December 22, 2007

    Adam

QOTD: I think WineLibraryTV will probably get a lot bigger amongst the “21-35 / at least some college” demographic IF A) Gary keeps doing apperances in big media and B) the producers and executives are looking and made aware of growth of the wine industry.

I’ll admit, some of the potential for WineLibrary to get really big depends on wine makers and related businesses’ willingness to spend ad dollars. WineLibrary.TV is already regarded by the shows (Nightline, Conan) spotlighting it as THE big show about wine. And as the wine industry and/or luxury goods industries start to put more marketing dollars into television/internet advertising, Winelibrary will see a continued rise. It may even be immune to recession given the fact that internet is a very trackable medium (but that’s a whole other discussion).

I hope all that makes sense.

  212. December 22, 2007

    maggiej

I can’t wait to try to Mahi, though I can’t order wine for awhile. Our wine rack is full and our apartment is small :(

QOTD: Where will winelibrary tv be? I love the Friday guest slot idea. More updates on the Vayniac cab? Could you do an episode on the effects of aging on wine, maybe with something you have your own tasting notes on say 5 or 10 years ago and try it again now?

  213. December 22, 2007

    el jefe

QOTD: I think in 08′ your internet viewership will continue to rise. I could eventually see an offer from the Food Network at some point, which I hope you would decline. I would hate to see you go “Rachel Ray” on all of us and get your mug scattered all over the TV. I don’t want to hear every grandmother and housewife throwing out “sniffy-sniffs.” Peace

  214. December 22, 2007

    Ben F

Link it up MOTT!! Make this shirt, with the WLTV logo…
Gary I hope you continue doing the thunder Show right here on WLTV. but maybe you can make some extra bones if you link some other businesses up… but don’t go too crazy…

  215. December 22, 2007

QOTD: Wine Library opening a new store in San Francisco! Also WLTV road trip through France and Italy

  216. December 22, 2007

    fatdoi

    QOTD…. i think GV will
    1. have blood spat with guest Bob Parker on new world bombs
    2. dedicate 25% of the shows to be on 05 Bordeaux
    3. be business as usual on WLTV because it’s GV’s passion & is good for the core business, right???

  217. December 22, 2007

    Dave Canada

QOTD – My prediction is that you will come to Toronto on Feb 24th, tape a WLTV show at the Knicks Raptors game and then we will have a radool tasting afterwards……get this sh*t together Gary!!!!! ;)

  218. December 22, 2007

    Panoca

    QOTD: more technical improvments.
And one more time: please we need a WLTV store in South Cali.

  219. December 22, 2007

    Marty

Gary – I went back and looked at the decanting episode and your episode number one. The difference between then and now is huge!! Where 2008 takes you is hard to predict, but if the quality, excitement and education you provide continues to improve I will watch every episode. You help us all better appreciate what we drink and expand our adventures in wine.

  220. December 22, 2007

QOTD: For the year 2008 I Would like to see a WineLibrary Store on the west coast (San Francisco Area) With Special Episodes from the store monthly. (By the Way… First Post. Lurker Master 9000)

QOTD: Monthly special packs to taste along with WLTV.

    Smellivision?

  223. December 22, 2007

    CellarDweller

QOTD: I’m guessing more product placement… I mean, radool giveaways like the ones we saw in the last couple of weeks. But I’m pretty much OK with that! Oh yeah, and Mott gets a T-shirt that sells better than GV’s dodgeball shirt. Friction between host and cameraman over this leads to a monumental 4th of July showdown, in which GV and Mott face off across a desk, paper footballs in hand, with Robert Parker as referee.

Who wins? Tune in and see…

  224. December 22, 2007

    Wiley Reilly

QOTD – I could see more contests in our future – as exposure grows and companies appreciate the Vayniacs – they’ll send schwag to GV to give away. Probably more guests, but let’s keep that in check. And most of all, I predict alot more wine isgoing to be tasted!!

BTW – Mott – Link it UP!!!

  225. December 22, 2007

    brookhouser

my prediction is in 2008 you will say the bourdeaux of 2005 was still the best vintage…however, you will say that prices have came down….I think after all the hype is through and the spotlight turns towards another area prices will fall below release price for a while and then go back up when the spotlight hits bordeaux again…..you see this all of the time with auction indexes and when wines get higer prices….you can see this as you look up some cabs from their glory days that released at 100+ and now selling for half….I could be wrong, but I want it in the records for 2008.

    Great Show!

  226. December 23, 2007

    Eric A.

Good Thunder show, as usual, man.

In case anyone’s curious about Mahi, the winemaker there, Brian Bicknell, is one seriously sharp dude and a very nice guy. He made the wine at Seresin Estate for several years and did a lot of winemaking in Chile. Mahi also has a very bright, cool viticulturist, one of the most highly respected in the region. So the mad props from GV shouldn’t come as a big surprise. I was really impressed with these guys’ wines at Seresin, so I’m glad to see they’re bringing the thunder on Mahi.

QOTD: I predict that the Thunder Show gets a band, and hires away Paul Schaffer from Letterman.

  227. December 23, 2007

    J Crazy

QOTD: I predict that in the year 2008 Michal Jackson will make his own wine: Kiddyland Ranch Reserva. Jesus, I don’t even want to think of what he’ll use as a fining agent. Gross!! Also, I predict I will CRUSH Winelibrary if there is not a “LINK IT UP! MOTT!” T-SHIRT within the first 4 months. Justin CRUUUSSSHH!!

  228. December 23, 2007

    Fred Liu

QOTD: The two cute little girls showed up weeks ago(R they your daughter, Gary? I am not sure…) will be the co-hosts of 2008 WLTV to lead this most loved teenager internet wine show. They will taste every wine and spit them out. And they can claim on the show that they don’t drink any wine because of the excellent spitting they have leant from WLTV…

  229. December 23, 2007

    Withnail

Just watched for a 2nd time. That was a great/fun show.
All the tasting notes were excellent, and the Clio was especially passionate.
    Well done!
    Happy Holidays all.

I’m pretty P.O’ed about the Death of the Goosenberry. Now I’m on the “Mar-qwiss”, not “Markee” as in Phillips rant.

QOD——–you’re going to be the first online winedude to do a show, “BOTTOMLESS” behind the desk.

  231. December 23, 2007

Wish I could be there in the store! We all fear change, sometimes it’s good, sometimes it’s bad. I foresee the thunder show continuing to kick as right here where it is and it’s popularity continue to grow. The web is this shows home town, who doesn’t love a home game?

  232. December 23, 2007

  233. December 23, 2007

    Richard LeBlanc

Great ep, as always, the Quintessa sounds awesome in every way except price.
QotD: I can easily see Gary picked up by the Food Net, and all the best to him! I just hope that he can keep online access to whatever evolves fron WLTV, so that we who live outside of North America can still be along for the ride. Happy holidays, and a prosperous new year to all!

  234. December 23, 2007

    AlanH

QOTD: Gary gets challenged to a wine tasting throwdown by Bobby Flay. Gary wins, of course, when Flay spits and misses the bucket. Mop it up, Mott!

  235. December 23, 2007

    Taylor

Great show, I’ll take 4/5 any day and I recently had a 99 Opus 1 and was not impressed to say the least I would say 86,87 points.

QOTD It would be crazy if they gave you a show, but I like the way it is now. Keep it up have a happy and healthy holiday everyone!!!!

  236. December 23, 2007

    Shotgun

Quintessa is good stuff. They have a cool tasting room and do a very nice job in presenting their wines. A host or hostess serves you wines and wonderful cheeses and they have very sharp looking placemat maps of the properties and where different grapes and clones are grown. They get into the whole biodynamic thing. Prediction: WLTV buys out Rupert Murdoch and Gary V. becomes THE Media Mogul. Woo-hoo!

  237. December 23, 2007

Dear Gary and all, happy holidays and merry Christmas. Yeah, it is coming. :)

I am astonished that they have not scooped up your show. Then again, all the best shows are always cancelled.

QOTD: Hopefully the Thunder Show stays as awesome as it is now. Have a safe and happy holiday to everyone at WL.

  240. December 23, 2007

    Bill H

you’re description of the clio was on point, great analogy and I feel like I know exactly what you’re talking about. on california cult wines, I see what you’re saying about opus, insignia, etc, but I I thought the 04 caymus was a great effort.

qotd – bigger and better. you’ve been gaining momentum in the past month or so and each episode is topping the last. in 08 I see more interesting themes, more contests, guests (bring sasha back) and trips, all in all just more thunder.

  241. December 23, 2007

    Bill H

one more prediction… the link it up mott shirt happens in 08

    Predictions for 2008:
    1. Mott will do an episode
    2. Barbara Walters will want to interview GV
    3. The Jets will still suck

For 2008, I’d like to see more tastings with a theme such as all zins or cabs, or highlight regions, such as paso robles or barossa, etc.
    Have a great holiday everyone!

  248. December 23, 2007

    Jason Chu

QOTD: I would like to see you at Art & Wine Festivals.

I just received my bottles of 2006 Nora Albarino. I’m excited about trying it on Christmas Eve with my friends ad family! Even though you said that that wine didn’t really appeal to you because of the fruitiness. I’m taking your advice and see if this wine will appeal to my palatte or not. I’ll let you know the experience I get after I taste it, and see if this will bring any thunder to me! LOL

    Thanks Gary!

  249. December 23, 2007

    GrapeStuff

Great ep, GV. That was fun! Hope you and your family has a healthy and happy holidays and New Year.

QOTD: Thunder Show integration with Cork’d and it would be great to see it move beyond a Web TV show to a network show. Just dont forgt about us little Vayniacs!

  250. December 23, 2007

    MN George

    QOTD: In 2008
    1) Wine Library will begin to ship to Minnesota
    2) Vayniacs will be given a “special everday code” for free shipping.
    3) GV will make Sportscenter as he hugs the Jets 2008 #1 draft pick 15 seconds after the draft pick is announced.
    4) GV will take a week off wine tasting after he eats a contaminated bit of dirt on The Craig Ferguson Show that was contimated from an area pulp and paper plant.
    5) Late in the year, Wine Library will announce a definitive agreement to acquire The Wine Advocate, but the deal will fall through on concerns about the weak US dollar and Americans declining interest in French and Italian wines.
    BIG YEAR!

  251. December 23, 2007

    David M Roberts

Nice effort today – For $15, the Mahi seems like a wine to seek out. Next time I’m ordering Chinese, I’ll try to pair it up with the snow peas.

QOTD: Not sure if Nostradamus covered The Thunder Show in 2008. I say, keep doing what you are doing. Things evolve, but make sure to keep it simple and honest, and you’ll always have an audience.

  252. December 23, 2007

    Whipple

Yes, very powerful show, GV. Pace and tempo were GREAT! Waxing gibbous moon for the holidays undoubtedly played its part. Way to poker-face the “no Link It Up, Mott!” declaration. You big FAKER!

I’ve never had the Douro, but this is the first time your opinion has produced doubt for me. Makes me want to try it and, I admit, counter your assertion.

QOTD: 2008 prediction: “You will continue on the path of being true to yourself and you will involve ‘US’ even MORE in changing the wine world. The Thunder Show will become OURS as much as it is YOURS.”

QOTD: You’ll exceed 100,000 Vayniacs in 2008 and WLTV will move from “late night” to “prime time” in popularity.

Gary: I was introduced to wines this year and I found WLTV. You have played a huge role in helping me to understand the wine world. Thanks. Merry Christmas to you, your family and the Vayniac family. Looking forward to the Christmas pack.

Merry Christmas GV!!! We all hope you keep it up for a long time to come.

And ‘benjo’ means toilet in Japanese, so I hope that wine doesn’t cost a hundred sh*tters.

Have a beautiful Xmas with family Gary,

Hey, GV, you’re a very special person, and I just see more and more positive GROWTH for you – and me – in 2008, and most certainly you have a part in that, so thank you, and let me wish you and yours the best for the new year!! And you can be sure that my wife and I will include you in our toast when we have our new year champagne (probably Lucien Albrecht’s Cremant D’Alsace Brut Rose). Happy holiday, Gary & Family!

  260. December 24, 2007

    Timothy Burke

This show was really good, it wasn’t as laid back as usual which was kind of nice to have a bit of change.

QOTD: I think more Lurkers will come out, the comments will rise, and you will continue to bring more people into the wine world. I think the show will still continue to be as fantastic as it has been, and I believe you will continue to have more surprises for us.

  261. December 24, 2007

    Brad O

    Another fine show.
QOTD: The Jets will dedicate a game to Gary V. Who knows they might even win.
Mott will get his own show. It will be a spin off and he will be testing wine equipment.
    Glasses, cork screws, decanters, etc.

Keep up the great work and enjoy the Holiday rush on Monday.
You have to love all of the last minute shoppers.
    Happy Holidays all.

    Phil G

QOTD – Well, episode 400, NFL draft excitement, more TV appearances, guest vaniac hosts… can’t come up with anything creative.

Hope it was a good weekend – have a great holiday!

  263. December 24, 2007

    Gabriel

I’d like to see you get into the wine scene in China in 2008 since it’s the Olympics. We are suffering down here from bottom rung, over-priced rubbish. Come on over, Gary! We can at least drink good tea together!

    Sincerely,

    G

  264. December 24, 2007

    Brandon T.

2008 have a show that duct tape’s Gary to two hot models being pummeled with ripe Petit Verdot grapes all over their tushes then an exploding twinkie.

  265. December 24, 2007

    Jaybird

QOTD I see you getting offers from sirius radio for a weekly show and making theTIME top 100 imfluential people for 2008!

Gary: QOTD: Ideas??? Hope that you are the go to wine guy for EVERY media outlet anywhere!! I am going to get to Springfield this year even if I have to walk!!!! wink! Merry Christmas Everyone!!! :)

  270. December 24, 2007

    Lawrence Leichtman

More of the same GV. It’s been a great ride so far. GV will be on NBC nightly news filling in for Bryan Williams or maybe the screamer guy on CNBC!

Had the Clio at Bobby Flay’s by the glass. I thought it overpowered the steak and that’s not what I want to taste. Quintessa is always amongst the better of the high end California Reds and I enjoy their wines whenever I’m feeling flush with bones. Also they have one of the prettier sites on the Silverado trail.

  271. December 24, 2007

    caleb

awesome energy GV you had me rollin a few times!

QOTD-you keep bringing the thunder. in whatever form it may be!

  272. December 24, 2007

You need to rethink your decision not to produce “Mott, Link it up!(tm)” shirts.

  273. December 24, 2007

    Mike

Way to go Gary! I’m learning a lot. QOTD: TTS will offer a “Palate Training Kit” consisting of wet blue stones, dirt, cherries, garbage, cat pee, sweaty socks, Hi-C, etc… about 200 different “experiences” It would sell out in a week. Hope you have a Wonderful Christmas.
    Mike

    Great Show with Great Variety.

    GV,

Do not end this show in 2008! Network TV? That would be great. Just don’t take away my crack!

Love you. Have a very Merry Christmas!

  277. December 24, 2007

2008 brings more success and popularity to the show…..and we all watch the Jets lose 15 games next year…GO Dolphins!!!!!

  278. December 24, 2007

    Mr.Ambassador

    Hey GV,

In 2008 I see many more shows being taped at Wine Library West; the new location you’ll be opening in Washington State (c’mon, you know you want to)!

Seriously, I think the show’s popularity will keep building and word will just keep spreading. Maybe you can arrange for all the Vayniacs out there to buy the same champagne and and sip a toast at exactly the same moment worldwide. Is there a record for the world’s largest “toast”?

    Keep up the great work.

    Erik

  279. December 24, 2007

    Greg B

Big G, Love the EP. So, No… Mott, Link it up Shirts.. Come on…. Do it for the Hard Core Vayniacs.

QOTD: I think you didn’t have a Huge Count down for nothing. I can see you getting more into the Making of….You know, A little more Behind the Scenes Action in 08. GV goes Michelle Roland on us. LOL!

  280. December 24, 2007

  282. December 24, 2007

    James H

I predict a Mot vs. Gary battle. It’ll happen one day after Mot gets beaned by a stray cork at the end of an episode. It will be a glorious battle.

  283. December 25, 2007

    yourfrienddownunder

I predict that the Vaynernation will reach critical mass, break-away from the rest of the world and form our own nation. You will be our very own Castro. Do you like Cigars?

  284. December 25, 2007

    Harley Stan

    Great show!!!
QOTD- 2008 I see episode 500, can’t wait, keep em coming.

  285. December 25, 2007

    Colin

GV – Thanks for this show – after a long Xmas day. QOTD – 2008? TTS goes Global! Er, wait – that’s happened. TTS schools wine journalism! Aah yeah – that’s done. What’s left Senor V?

  286. December 26, 2007

    YoungDave

QOTD: “In the year 2008,” “WLTV” will become the most recognized acronym in the wine world, and will be synonymous with all that is new, old, unpretentious, classic, educational, cutting edge, exploratory, and downright enjoyable about vino to anyone and everyone who appreciates wine on any level for any amount of time…and the word “lurker” will be banished from the WL vocabulary as every viewer (which will be everyone who drinks wine in the world) will comment on every show…and Gary’s email inbox will be streamlined to cut out comments that belong here…and everyone will still enjoy Gary’s tasting notes and scored while completely disregarding his opinion in favor of their own palate.

  287. December 26, 2007

    hasbeen

08 will bring more national exposure for GV. NBC’s Today Show will certainly have him as a guest. There will be more calls from the Food Network trying to work out a show. We still will be unable to have WLTV ship to Minnesota.

  288. December 26, 2007

    Jayhitek

    QOTD: Gary shaves his head!

  289. December 26, 2007

    thefaamakesmedrink

    Hey GV,

When describing the Clio, did you really say “A lot of people have BOUGHTEN this wine”? Classic…

  290. December 26, 2007

    JeffC

QOTD: 2008?? I predict, GV will have his own wine column in the NY Times.

Hey, who won the big ass Silver Oak. And, what do you mean, not enough support for Mott, Link it Up! T-Shirt?? Mott, you got robbed.

  291. December 27, 2007

    Kristen

08 prediciton: GV and Parker will meet in a no holds bard WLTV throwdown reminicent of old schoold WWF, we’re talkin’ Rowdy Piper and Randy “Macho Man” Savage. They threw down, right?

  292. December 27, 2007

    Robert Ryan

I predict that Gary will be the proud father of a beautiful baby girl Vayniac!!! I say…once we find out that Lizzy is pregnant we do a Champagne pack with free shipping!!!

  293. December 27, 2007

    Michael H.

    Great show again!

QOTD: 2008? You need to get involved in a restaurant. I think with your knowledge of food, wine, cheese, service, etc., it would be a no brainer. Maybe just as a consultant though, as your present time is very limited…

  294. December 27, 2007

    Elliot Essman

I predict in 2008 more on-location episodes, out in the fields and in wineries, and a continuing level of stimulation for the viewers.

  295. December 27, 2007

    Russ J

Nice job, GV! Liked this show a lot. Entertaining description of the Clio.

QOTD: You will have a Jet as a WLTV guest in 2008!

  296. December 27, 2007

    Ryan

    QOTD: GV stops using scores

  297. December 27, 2007

    Jason S.

QOTD: viewership doubles…then trebles…then WLTV not only changes the wine world, it takes over the wine world.

  298. December 27, 2007

    damon aka unknownwine

more of the same……..which is a good thing.

  299. December 27, 2007

    JayZee

Superb show, as usual. I really enjoyed you taking off on the Clio. Nice! Actually, I was surprised that four of the five wines showed so well for you.

QOTD: My prediction for WLTV in 2008 is that Lizzie will finally make an appearance on the Thunder Show!

  300. December 27, 2007

    JayZee

QOTD (Take 2): By the way, I have noticed that when you’re on a roll like you have been lately, WLTV end up being around 20-25 minutes in length. This means that, with appropriate commercial breaks, it would fit perfectly into a 30 minute slot on, say, oh, I don’t know, perhaps the Food Network. So that’s my prediction – WLTV moves to the Food Network in 2008. :-)

  301. December 27, 2007

    JayZee

BTW, Episode #182 looks a little like the “Blair Witch Project”. ;-)

  302. December 28, 2007

    NADINE

Humm, my prediction regarding the status of your shows coolness would be on the rise I should think :)

  303. December 28, 2007

    CHATrBox

What do you do with the wines after tasting them? Hopefully share them with the staff. Or does Mott just take them home?

Some really good wine descriptors in this episode. Can you really have too much cleave?!?! Who’s up for some action?!

QOTD: Even money you start having a lot more special guests. Head out to a lot more places, including out of state. And make a fair amount of TV appearances, if not on your own show.

  304. December 29, 2007

    PaVo

Im a few days late on all this stuff but seriously…REALLY need a Mott Link it up shirt. FOR SERIOUS!

QOTD: Wow, I feel like my prediction might be a bit…boring…hopefully some sort of full integration with Cork’d? More viewer questions? More of the same awesome show that doesn’t bow to the other ratings and doesn’t tell you WHAT to do (other than to drink for yourself). That’s what I think.

Oh and buy the Jets. seriously. Maybe then they’ll beat the skins. yeah, actually probably not!

  305. December 29, 2007

    Karl Laczko

    Nice wines, good show.

QOTD – I’m generally not good at predictions, so let’s be happy with you still doing the show and me still watching it, OK?

  306. December 30, 2007

    wannaBconnoisseur

Great show! Getting caught up today.

    Q. More thunder!!

  307. December 30, 2007

    Dan-o

Interesting comment that you made toward the end of the show – sit around read a book, do a crossword, then taste the wine again. That sounds like my Sunday afternoon!

Prediction for 2008 – GV will invite more guests to join him on the Thunder Show! I have been watching for a while and I have noticed more guests lately, whether it is in the WLTV hizzie, or on the road (NYC Tour, Cellar, etc.).
Although you rock GV, it is really cool to see you interact with your guests and get an additional perspective.

    Peace out…..

Excellent cork throw Gary! QOTD: Just keeps getting better

  310. January 7, 2008

    Matt the Lurker

QOTD – In 2008 WLTV will become a reality TV show which is no longer about the wine (you can already see evidence of this in 2007). Mott will become the host and everybody at Wine Library will be forced to live in the store. However, in 2009, WLTV2 will come out and run in parallel to WLTV because the true Vaniacs want shows about wine. And then eventually in 2011 WLTV2 will also become a reality TV show this time starring the entire offensive line of the Jets and will have nothing do with wine whatsoever.

Seriously, it is already bumming me out.

Oh, and also in 2011, wine will become passe and everyone on Facebook will be panning it. Ha! No more Diggs either! What then?

  311. January 7, 2008

    Matt the Lurker

Hey Gary, I bet you $2 my 2011 prediction comes true.

  312. January 8, 2008

    Jeff Daniher

Quintessa is a great winery to visit. Awesome, classy tasting room. The winery is macrobiotic which is a bit unusual right now, but growing in popularity. The tasting/tour costs a bit, but you get a nice glass of wine and some cheese as well. Been there twice, and enjoyed it each time.

  313. February 7, 2008

You wear pants when you drink wine?

  314. April 16, 2008
