QOTD: I’m watching this on the 27th and I’m actually starting to get a nasty head cold. I might be out of commission this New Year’s. :(

I got a d’Arenburg Peppermint Paddock Chamboucin that I have been really curious to try. I love the real French bubbles, but thought it would be fun to try something new and different.

Great show….I had forgotten about the Silver Oak giveaway…great to see you do a small sit down at the homey-home.

QOTD: I plan on drinking beer for the new year….I already had a gathering in Napa where we popped a 1970 DRC magnum, a vertical of Adastra Pinot, 96 Puligny-Montrachet, 95 Prado Enea, 66 Grams port, and other fun wines…so this New years it’s beer with an old Army buddy. Have a great holiday

Nice ep, even though I could really use 6 liters of wine to get me through the rest of vacation…maybe next time.

QOTD: What am I NOT drinking! Seriously, leave “amateur night” (as we like to call New Year’s eve)to the amateurs. We’ll be craking open a nice bottle of port from Chateau Julien, in Carmel, CA. Cheers Everyone!!

    QOTD: Grower champagne
Not really…don’t know much about champagne except that the last time I had some bubbly (approx 10 years ago) it went straight to my head, grabbed a hold and wouldn’t let me go! Tiny bubbles not nice.

Yeah, where was this episode taped? It seems to be a typical blue collar NJ neighborhood that is currently the home-buying choice of white collar middle income subalterns who don’t like the McMansion aesthetic. Despite the class differences created by this and the low-level discomfort everyone suffers due to the sometimes intangible and other times shockingly obvious imbalances in cultural capital and/or actual material wealth, everyone is decent to each other. I think the indoor space is most likely someone’s Cold War era post-nuke bunker now converted into an imagined post-apocalyptic hedonistic love nest, the ultimate place to be left behind.

I am totally going to drink a growers Champagne because I love the whole idea of it, thanks to GV. I’ve been selling pints of my blood for the past few weeks so I should be able to get a decent bottle and then I’ll let some snot crust up on my three year old son’s cheeks and upper lip, teach him a jaunty, crowd-congealing jig and take to the streets to panhandle for some oysters.

QOTD: I live in (yells like Sam Kinison) Indiana — aaaah! aaaah! aaaaaah!

So the best I can get is, like, a Schramsberg blankety blank. May as well get a Korbel and pour a dash or two of pomegranate juice in it.

    The Fanjestic

I can’t watch Gary eat steak – especially when my wife cooked chicken. Too cruel.

A similar unique white that I like with savory foods or steak is Lopez Heredia Gravonia Rioja.

Not sure what I’ll be serving, I’ve got some older Mumm Carte Blanche Extra Dry and several Piper Heidsiecks that I should pull out.

Fun episode…really interesting to see the white wine on there.
QotD – I’ll probably crack some sort of sparkling…probably the NV Nicholas Feiullette Brut, but maybe the Aria Cava.
What are you doing to be cracking?

QOTD- Not too sure what I will be drinking on New Years. If I do toast with some sparkling it will most likely be prosecco so my friends can enjoy it as well. More importantly Gary, what will you be drinking on new years?
    Cheers
    Aaron

    Kdawg

QOTD: a 95 D’Yquem in half bottle form, a 95 Chateau Angelus, and hopefully the order I put in can get here by monday from you guys, if not, I’ll be drinking a Feuillate NV Brut Rose to go along with those amazing bordeauxs

    The Virginian

    Gary,
    Great show!!

QOTD: I will be going to a party in New York where the host will probably serve Sutter White Zinfandel and Korbel Champagn. I will bring two bottles of Schmitt Sohne Liebfraumilch (I have this feeling that ts is Germany’s version of Boonesfarm but at least it isn’t White Zin and most of the women there just want something “sweet” anyway), a 2005 Chateau St Jean Fume Blanc for me, and from Virginia I’m bringing a bottle of Jamestown Cellars Settlers’ Spiced Wine, and two bottles of Hartwood Red from Hartwoon Winery in Hartwood, Va. It is a really good semi-dry red that people who aren’t into reds always like…yet it has a very unique character that isn’t cool-aid or like anything you will find in a grocery store. I know you don’t think much of Virginia wines, but to me, many of these smaller wineries are like microbrew beers that are unique and different from the national brands. And since I will not far from your area, I will stop in your store on Saturday and buy a bottle of Mailly Grand Cru.

    wine-ot

i like the ‘off campus’ shows from time to time…new years will be sipping away on a sparkling flight at my restaurant…a slave to the man!

GV- Thanks for the full year that I personally have been watching and can’t wait for ‘08…that being said, I will be drinking coffee on New Year’s Eve because, alas, the bad guys won’t take a day off for the joyous celebration :(
