    QOTD:Yes, Yes

Pinotage often gets a bad rap, but I enjoyed many nice ones In South Africa when I was living in Zimbabwe.

  • Eric Bergen

My wife especially likes the sweeter German rieslings, so yes and yes, we have them often. I’m going back to the old German episode so I can learn about the “sweetness” ratings.

QOTD: YES!!! I have had German Riesling, and it is one of my favorite varietals, in terms of being able to really show what terroir is all about. No other R in the world tastes like German R from the Mosel. Part 2, yes, I have had more than 2. I have probably tried more than 10 from Germany, just because my wife and I both love the Riesling. Probably our favorite white.

QOTD – yes I have had many German Rieslings and found you don’t need to spend much to get a great wine. I am mostly a red drinker, but find these to be a great wine to take a break from reds, and they also go well with food.

I had a dry Riesling that threw me for a loop because I did not pay much attention when I bought it, but once you realize what you’ve got, they are very good.

QOTD – Yes, I have had several German Rieslings. It is one of my favorite while wines and pairs very well with food.

I do not think you have ever done a show on Finger Lakes, NY Rieslings. I think that this deserves a look. There are several very good ones. Dr. Frank Konstantin, Hermann Weimer, Standing Stone. Check them out!

QOTD: Yes, I have had many German Rieslings, as the German ones are my favorite, especially the MSR region. I have several JJ Prums in my cooler now along with several other producers from Germany.

I am a big Riesling fan. I have drank loads of them.
In my cellar I have Kabinett, Spaetlese (pronounced Shpetleeza), and Auslese.

One of my favorite Riesling experiences was at a Christmas party at my favorite wine restaurant in Winston-Salem – it was comment #?, Link it up Mott! – the chef brought out a 1976 Auslese that was a beautiful mix of fruit and nutty aspects and it aged beautifully.

QOTD: Of course I’ve had German Rieslings. Yes, I’ve had MORE THAN TWO. Now for the confession – in my ~1,000 bottles of wine in the cellar, I think I only have 4 German Rieslings – and only a couple of bottles of each.
