QOTD: Had a bottle of Majella Sparkling Shiraz last New Year's Eve, googled it, saw WLTV and been watching ever since! Trying to watch at least one episode per day to catch up!

I started about a week ago and can't stop watching, I am learning so much more than when I went to the wine school here in Philly. Although, talk about wanting to be friends on facebook, I added you right away last week, and am still waiting... WHAT UP???

Check out my cork'd wine cellar, what do you think? I still have to put in all my chateauneuf du papes in, I'll do that tomorrow. See ya...

Been watching since episode 1...and since I'm watching in order, I think I might end up being a permanent lurker as I'm about a year behind :). Or does this de-lurker me? Hm...

    Either way, love the show!

QOTD: I did a search on youtube on Sauternes, then episode 121? came up. I watched it and was basically like "Who the %@(@* is this?" I immediately enjoyed your humor though, and searched out #1 on youtube, and have been watching them in order ever since. Think I switched to WLTV somewhere around #200 or so.

i started watching yesterday. heard about it from kevin rose. im waiting to start my job in a week so i have all kinds of free time and have watched like 50 episodes. became an instant fan added you on twitter (jesseww) and told all of my friends to watch your shows. i think the reason is because i dont know anything about wine so when you say it tastes like dirt or cigars i get the taste. and about you only reviewing wines that you sell. duh! that is what your show is about. and it makes it better because if i see you taste it then i know where i can get it at and i dont have go searching. im really web 2.0 kinda person and you just make it connect with what i am into.
    thanks

QOTD: I started watching the thunder show just over a week ago AND I'M ALREADY HOOKED!!! I sated when i noticed the link on the wine library web site under a wine i was interested in....and the rest is history as they say! keep up the great and informative work!

QOTD: I was planning a wine tasting for some friends, and I thought it would be funny to sneak in 2 Buck Chuck amidst the other wines. Though I didn't end up doing this in the tasting, I did, in mid April, do a Google search to find something out about Charles Shaw, which I hadn't ever had. Your 2 Buck Vaynerchuk episode popped up, and I've been watching ever since. I watch the new one each day, and then listen to the old episodes while drawing at work. (I'm an architect, and I like to have talking in the background while drawing.) That's why I am just now getting to this episode.
  • Just came across the show today and forwarded it to at least 50 people. Greatness man... I can totally get behind a wine review that involves a Dave Winfield reference... I love your Noir suggestions too. Ive been on a big Morgan 12 Clones kick with a nice peppery steak or pork tender loin. Im definitely rocking suggestions to broaden my horizons. Thanks bro.
  • Started watching regularly around the 1st of March 07. I'm currently going back through the episodes.

I own a restaurant and sell wine tableside every night. I probably tell 10 people a day to watch. I also link to it on my wine blog.

  • QOTD: Started with Episode #316, 9/17/2007, and then watched all the "classics".

QOTD: I know, I know, late as hell and almost as boring (hell, boring? Sheesh, might as well talk about beer!)

As far as I can tell I have been a lurker for 12 whole hours, and to answer your question I started on episode 404 (linked off of googled "ov guide") and I am absolutely IN FUCKING LOVE (in fucking-fatuated) with this show.

The snow-induced hyperactivity, the wine affection-ado, the super-fun guests, all of it. Fo' serious, I'm a lifelong fan, and I've only been watching for half a day.

Peace n love n wine, baby.
  • Actually, I was sent the link to episode 125 by my Dad's Cousin, a former Wine Library employee (specifically the cheese guy). I've been watching ever since.
  • Kristen
So this was the one that the ABC people came to!

I am so late in viewing this episode, but I'm really glad you tried Breggo. While I've never had their wines, I am a huge fan of the Anderson Valley region, it is temperature-wise cool enough to do those Alsace styles and Pinots really well, its a small non-touristy region, the tastings are usually free, and the main town of Boonville also has the Anderson Valley brewery which is added bonus. Every time Gary rags on oakiness or fruit bombs in California wines (which I get) I think: why oh why are you not trying Anderson Valley stuff? Thank you! It's such a fine fine region.

Near the end of September 2007. I heard from a friend you did a Sea smoke tasting and I recieved an allocation and wanted to see what you thought of them. I have been watching everyday since. Still trying to work through all of the back episodes at the moment.

QOTD: it was approx Aug or Sept of last year (07), it was the day after the WLTV article appeared on Slate.com. I read the Slate article, and by the next day I was hooked, watching dozens of episodes every day for the next few weeks.
  • Pardus
    QOTD: A few months ago.
  • Qwunk
Started watching in December 2007, although I saw Gary on diggnation prior to that. There goes the "lurker" status I guess...
  • Carlitos
QOTD. Pretty much from the beginning. Around episode 10 maybe?

I'm a recent viewer just wanted to say, I like how down to earth your approach is Gare. Keep it up bringing wine to the people!
  • I'm a total noob who started watching at episode 376. Sidenote: I bought a bottle of wine for the first time last Friday, its a 2006 Beaujolais Villages by Georges Duboeuf.
  • David Dickinson
I started watching in Feb '07. Learned a ton since then. Thanks GV!

    Hey Gary.

I started watching the show about 5 months ago, after watching diggnation Kevin recommended the podcast.

Xmas 2007 after I was given and iPod as a gift.
  • SoCal
    I started watching last October....
  • QOTD - I started watching in September 2007. Have been loving it ever since, referred a few friends into watching and my tasting notes of wines I try (and post on my bog) have improved massively after I realised (thanks to Gary) that I could describe what I see, smell and taste in my own words!

Loved the Pinot episode - I have hope of finding a decent one at a reasonable price point. The last Pinot I had would have been about 5 months ago, it was a 1997 from somewhere in the US - and had flavours of tobacco, forest floor mushrooms and dark cherries (from a black forest cake) was tasty as and - the only reason I tried it was because its pre-Sideways :\ gotta get over the irrational avoidance of some wines.

February 19th 2007...I remember coz it was my 37th birthday. Best birthday present ever and I've watched every single episode before and after!
    Cheers Gary

QOTD: From looking at the archives, it looks like I started watching around mid to end of May.
  • QOTD: I started about a year ago after WLTV won best wine video blog. I had to see what all the excitement was about - AND GARY'S DELIVERED EVER SINCE!!!

Also, Gary, just wanted to clarify that - at least in California - a wine can have up to 25% of other varietals and still be labeled as a single varietal. So that Pinot could have 25% Petite Sirah!!! Why would anyone want a Pinot that looks like a Cab?

You may have been thinking about the California AVA requirement of 85% of that AVA's fruit to be labeled with that AVA, i.e. Oakville.

qotd:started in March 2006 but watched most of the previous episodes starting at episode #1

I started watching the Thunder Show when I clicked on a link from CellarTracker; "GV" had rated a 2003 Leoville-Poyferre 97 pts, and I was happy because I own a bottle, but didn't know who the heck "GV" was... I found my way to WLTV and have been a fan ever since. Keep it comin'.
