QOTD: I started watching some time last summer. I think beginning of August?

GV – I began watching you after I visited your NJ store over a year ago. I am a NJ native who moved to Boston and now has to go back to NJ to get some great wines because the silly state of MA doesn’t allow you to ship to us. Silly. Still, I try to seek out some of the interesting wines that you introduce us to – sometimes I hit and sometimes I miss. But always – I enjoy the ride.
Also – Jason Hicks compilation of episodes is hilarious – and you all the way. He captured your essence – not too fruity – not too explosive – and with some great hair styles along the way. Nice finish too.

    Thanks for being you.

I started watching around episode 270ish. My father was doing some research on Italian wine before a trip to Italy and came across the thunder show.

    I’ve been hooked ever since!

YEEEEHOOO! Sniffy-sniff is back in da house!! OR stays in the house.

QOTD: Sadly not until Episode 285.. So I am just past my 100th episode and patiently waiting my bottles of the Vayniac Cab!!!

More Pinot episodes please. Oregon and central coast as well.
QOTD: I don’t even recall how I found the show, but it was August 2007 when I started watching and I’ve seen every episode since and quite a few from the archives thanks to Chris “link it up” Mott.

1.) my vote – don’t get rid of the sniffy sniff, it irks that crap our of wine snobs, and GV, wine snobery has to go!

2.) oh heck, for a little bit over a year, maybe more, use to be lurker till you called me out personally.

Nice Pinot episode GVNC! Out of the all the well-known varietals I believe Pinot probably deserves a consistent thunder show appearance more than the rest. Because in the world of Pinot Noir there are really good bottles and a plethora (haven’t used that word in awhile) of not so good bottles…but not a whole lot in between.

And thanks for not retiring the “Sniffy Sniff”. Deep down you just can’t help but love the “SS”, that’s why it was able to slip out last episode. Let the “S Deuce” fly!

QOTD: My fan hood (and maybe man hood) is short lived…only 4 months ago.

I just started watching this week, so I have only been lurking for a few days. I’m hooked already. I am going through some older episodes to catch up.

This show is to wine what Good Eats is to food.

    Keep the “sniffy sniff”.

I watched a few last March and really enjoyed them, but then got really busy and stopped. I only really started to watch regularly a few weeks ago, and now I’m hyper-addicted, cant’ stop, need more and more and more and more…!

I’m glad you liked the Lily. I had my first one a few months ago, and was very impressed. It may have been a different vintage. I will definitely look for the Breggo. Pinots, red Burgundies, and Northen Italian wines are just about all the red wines I am buying these days.

QOTD: I don’t remember the date I first watched, but I believe it was in February, 2007.

    GV,
First of all, love the “sniffy sniff”….please keep it!
QOTD: I started viewing around episode #50….it is amazing how far the show has come. The fun thing about this show is that when I tell others to watch…they all love it!

For the future, keep bringing the truth about wines like Pinot Noir to the viewers….there is no question that these wines have changed in the last 5 years.
Can’t wait to see more episodes of the 05 Burgandy’s….had an 05 Clos Du Moulin last night and it was fantastic!

Qotd : I think was on october 2007 while registering and browsing on an italian website vinix dedicated to winelovers… and gary in winter after a day working in the languedoc vineyards you became my new addiction… and my 30 minutes breathing ! noticed first your americane exuberance and second realized you were really a wine friend… have a good work
    from south of france…

    QOTD: Probably sometime early 07.

What’s the issue about you using sniffy-snif? I almost get the impression that someone was threatening a lawsuit because they trademarked the phrase. Use it, don’t use it, whatever works best for the show.

Hope to make the 29th gig.

Started watching in about Dec 2006.. Just on the net trying to learn about Allegrini Amarone I had drunk; and I became an instant vayniac. I even spread the Vayniac gospel to my kids and most strangers at my local wine place.

    Gary…………………

Have you heard, there is scientific evidence regarding the health benefits related to drinking Pinot Noir ? It contains the very highest level of the antioxidant reservatrol! So it’s not just “Sideways” that’s turning people to Pinoot Noir.

“InVino Sanitas” In wine there is health………..

QOTD: Since the first time I saw your link on Wine Spectator, (September 2006) and loved it from the start. Have not missed an episode since, and now leave a comment every episode. Sorry for being such a lurker for such a long time, but I will continue giving back by leaving a comment after each show for you.

Why don’t you just admit the real reason you rate wines on your show. I believe you when you say you don’t believe in ratings but I don’t believe the excuse you give for why you rate wines, i.e. because of your affinity for sports. Come on now. People (your viewers) want you to rate wines on your show; and then they go out and buy them based on your ratings as well as Parkers, WS, etc… Why don’t you just admit that the real reason you rate wines is because this is what your audiance wants/expects and not doing so would cause you to lose a large percentage of your audiance. Here’s an angle you might want to try. Tell your viewers that you don’t believe in ratings however from experience you understand that most people do base their wine buying decisions (rightly or wrongly so) on the ratings provided to them by the “experts”; then tell them to trust their palates. A little honesty might be a better approach.
