QOTD – First episode watched was, by pure chance, #115(the Lebanese back episode), but this was in March 2007, which was when I got hooked.

I actually read the article about WL and GV in TIME magazine when that came out ‘cos I subscribe It’s really unusual for a single blog to have its own article in TIME. This guy must have SOMETHING GOING ON. I made a mental note to check it out. I’m old and I forget, so I forgot the mental note. Then on 11/07 catching up on old issues of Slate and saw yet another article about WL and GV. This time while I was sitting there I checked it out. And NOW I’m going to have buy a wine cooling fridge-type unit because of all this yummy vino I’ve amassed! Else it will cook! (Not that I’m complaining)(OK maybe a bit). Will make every effort to show up for 3/29 party if can talk friend into going with!

    I’m really confused!
Gary, You go on and on about how Cali has “Fruit-bomb-ified” the classic Pinot, then you fall in love with the one in that category…
(with tounge in cheek) THANK YOU for staying AWAY from Windward Vineyards’ Classic Burgundian Monopole Pinot Noir action. They’re a very small Paso Robles winery that we became members of their club just before Sideways came out and LOVE THEM, and would hate for them to become so popular that we couldn’t afford them anymore! I think we need to try the Lily for sure.

    QOTD: About 3 months!

I started watching last week. I was wondering if you would do an episode on German Rieslings. German Rieslings are my favorite wines, particularly Kabinetts.

May 2007… I was on some deals site (like SlickDeals or FatWallet) where people were talking about Cameron Hughes wines at Costco and someone linked to your video review of them (#176). Your show was my style so I jumped right in.

September, 2007. A friend called me from the Albuquerque airport(bar) to tell me that one of my favorite wines (Melville) was being featured on TV. I looked up the Ellen show, saw the clip and linked into WLTV. Now, we are both Vayniaks.

it is always good to see an episode on Pinot. it is funny, i am starting to mentally arrange the winter pinots from the spring and fall pinots. in burgundy, there is a wide scale range and some are just meant for the cold nights. ahhh, must open a real nice bottle of pinot this winter. i actually opened a 2000 aloxe -corton after christmas and it was good and even a little smokey.

QOTD: more than a year ago. i was googling a wine and you came up. i thought, oh that weirdo who has advertisements with football shit around him.

QOTD: Right after I saw your appearance on Conan, I don’t remember the exact date though…

As for this episode, I have a suggestion. Maybe Gary you should go make a blockbuster hollywood movie that promote your grape that you adore, like Albarino or maybe bring Merlot back? That would be amazing!!!

Again, why I never buy a massive wineries’ “premium blend”– Mondavi aside. Wish I could try the Breggo!

QOTD: October, baby. I wanted to see the price of Perrier Jouet compared to Veuve and google gave me Wine Library’s site for the lowest PJ price. It said there was a video and I was intrigued. After that day, I never purchased another bottle of wine from the big makers. I’ve also started to love wine :)

Nice show. I’ve always avoided CA Pinot, figuring it was overpriced, but it looks like I might have to dabble in it a bit. Pre-conceived notions, eh?

QOD – I started somewhere around Episode 50 or so. I remember watching 3 or 4 a day to get caught up. Imagine trying to get caught up now! Impossible.

Episode No. 1. I was tooling around on winelibrary.com as I often do… saw the link to WLTV… thought what the hell is that… clicked it… and I have been hooked ever since.

The more Cali pinot I taste, the more I think they all taste the same. There is some variation between prodcuers and appelations no doubt, but the taste range is muted to a large extent. I see a bear market!!

  63. January 16, 2008

April ‘07, but have since watched most of the old episodes. Virginia is 5th for most wineries. Seeking wine sites lead me to WLTV.

The best place to eat right next to the Wine Library is La Strada’s. I think it’s the best pizza in the world. I’ve been eating it for 30 years, since I was 7 year. I’m guessing Gary has had to have it, and Gary if you agree, make sure you add it to the list of Restaurants for 3/29.

  67. January 16, 2008

    john ripperger

Also, if anyone knows anything about Anderson Valley pinots, they know it is a hot new area for that grape. The best pinot I have had from that area is the Londer Paraboll…sssssshhhhheck it out

I am in agreement with you on how out of hand the popularity of Pinot has propagated across the U.S. I was talking with Sterling at Sterling Albert Winery today and he and I have formed the consensus that Cab Franc is really where it’s at. . .

QOTD: I watched my first episode the first day of my new job here at AmericanWinery.com That would have been September 4th, 2007 – which is serendipitous because I live in Washington – Walla Walla to be exact (some pretty sweet wine country). P.S. The 2002 Pepper Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon is the best!

  90. January 16, 2008

    GrapeStuff

Good ep GV – always fun to visit the Sideways grape and thanks for the heads up on Breggo. Will certainly seek these out.

QOTD: Started around June 2007 – after watching my first episode, I went back and watched all the archived episodes, which took about 3 weeks to get me all the way back to episode 1. Its awesome how far the Thunder show has come. I know watch religiously, like…..well, as you say “like its got the cure inside”.

    Cheers!

QOTD: I was a lurker back in Nov 2006 and didn’t post anything until February 2007. Haven’t missed a show since and have enjoyed the earlier ones as well. WLTV sure has evolved – I can’t say the early ones were the THUNDER SHOW that it is today, but still fun to watch.

QOTD – Since the Slate article. Whenever that was.

If you want real Pinot, do an Oregon episode. That’s Or-i-gun, not Oree-gone.

Or you can come visit me and we will just go straight to the good wineries…

Gary, thanks for the “sniffy sniff” I was worried we would all have to band together and hold comments hostage until it came back :)

I almost forgot! If you can get your hands on the Sea Smoke 2004 Pinot, it’s pretty delicious. Fully allocated and who knows how long I’ll be on the waiting list, but until then maybe my friends Tony and Esther will continue to share.

hollywood did not “make” Pinot, It has been considered great for thousands of years.
Also if anybody is responsible for the frenzy over Pinot its the media. The movie was not all that popular, but thousands of articles were written about it..
Don’t confuse media coverage with the small impact the actual film made.

As to the second wine.. light color has basically nothing to do with flavor with pinot. Fab Burgundys are frequently light in color..

    Lilly info……
The Lily wines are made by Bill Hunter of Chasseur fame, and does it ever show. His elegant hand makes perfectly balanced acidity driven wines that are minimally manipulated.

QOTD:I was turned by the Vayniac side in Nov 2007 around episode 278….it was a good day.

Gary you focus really well with all the background noise and motion going on…it’s like you have a business there or something.

    Great Show!!!

QOTD: Been watching since around episode 40. I dont think I left my first comment until atleast episode 140 or 150. I was lucky enough to have a friend tell me about the site and get me hooked way back when.

Great show Gary. I love Pinot, so I am always excited to learn about new offerings. Too bad about Coppola. Again, it goes to show that cool labels does not equal cool wine.

QOTD: I was sometime early last year I guess. I don’t remember my first show, and it’s might be hard to track back because after I came to WLTV, I went back and watched every episode from the beginning. No matter when I got here, I love it and tell my friends about it all the time. Thanks for a great, great service you provide. Cheers!

I can’t take it anymore. I have to commend you on most of your vocabulary pronunciations, how-eva’, I must say that I cringe every time you say pinot noir. Having spent as much time in France as you have, I would think you would have been taught to pronounce it correctly. So this is constructive criticism. It’s not na-war as you say. It’s nwahr, (one syllable). Love the show and love the pinot.

I honestly do not remember. I started watching after it was mentioned on Diggnation the first time. It seems like a long time.

Great episode – BIG fan of “old-world”/true Pinot Noir.

A good, elegant burgundy is (for me)the best wine experience you can have!

QOTD – the first episode, I found on youtube searching for champagne-videos. Can’t remember precisely when I became a regular viewer (long time lurker:-) – probably some time between episode 80′ and 120′.

    !:PLEASE – more champagne episodes.

Well, I’m back in the doldrums but at least this Nero d’Avolo I’m having is trying to lift my spirits.

QOTD: I believe it was episode #69 though at the time I was a “hit or miss lurker” though now I’m hardcore.

Have fun on the 29th :(

Gary, thank you thank you thank you for finally wanting to do some burg shows this year. Could you maybe change one of the 05s to doing a 96 or a 99 show so that the viewers can see a show about burgs that are just coming into their drinking window? that said, I’m happy though, you haven’t done a real big time burg show yet(sorry, borgone’s don’t count), so hopefully we’ll see some burg love this week

QOTD: I forget which episode it was when I started watching, but I know one of the first episodes was the tensley episode. my good friend grant kept telling me to watch the show after we’d been to WL a bunch of times when I lived back in the dirty jerz, and so I finally started watching. Gary, I personally have no reference for whether or not pinot noir is more popular after sideways, so I’ll take your word for it. however, it is my opinion that pinot noir goes better with food-that-is-not-steak. Much more so than, say the other favorite, Cabernet sauvignon, which really ONLY goes well with steak and meaty dishes. As someone who eats red meat once a week or less, I buy more pinot than cab, based on the food pairing options.

And as for ’sniffy sniff’…I got up and did a dance when you announced its demise. Your’e such a tease! Get rid of it already!!!

I just watched the last show. A question . . . don’t you find that the “big-arse glass” strips lesser pinot of character. I’d love you to re-taste with the standard Riedel pinot glass. Thanks for the show.

Nice episode and it couldn’t have come at a better time- today I was reading all about Burgundian winemakers in Jonathan Nossiter’s new book, Le goût et le pouvoir. (For the record, Nossiter, who directed Mondovino, is out and out against Parker and other wine critics that have dictated the “new rules” in the wine world).

QOTD: Been watching since July ‘07, after I read that article in Time. However, I didn’t know that there were shows every weekday cause I got them through iTunes. Thus, I had a lot of catching up to do! And now I am thoroughly addicted.

Great show Gary! Unlike my few prejudices (whites, sweet wines, merlot) which I am earnestly trying to work past (I chant “Chateau Petrus is Merlot” like a mantra), I am downright AFRAID to get into Pinot and Burgundy in particular. Allen Meadows describes Pinot as the most “transparent” grape of all, in terms of terroir, and in one episode of WLTV you mentioned that the only way to learn about Burgundy is to read a lot and taste a lot.

I’m afraid I will fall into a black hole of Burg-addiction and emerge a penniless alcoholic.

QOTD: I had “the bottle” on August 26, 2007. Sometime in September, I was scouring the internet for info/interviews with Robert Parker, and your episode “Robert Parker Rated Wines” came up on Youtube. I watched a little, wondered who in the world you were. Thought you were a little obnoxious, and moved on. About a week later, I actually watched the whole episode. Then I reluctantly watched another, then I eagerly watched another. I think I needed a better source of general wine knowledge because my bone-headed strategy of buying on Parker Scores was burning me big-time. So here I am, over 300 episodes later. I have a confession to make: I fall asleep to old WLTV episodes.

    You rock, Gary!

I am glad sniffy-sniff is here to stay, although you never explained your reason for even considering retiring it, I would be curious to know.

QOTD: About a week before you were on Conan O’Brien I saw this show on iTunes. I was a little taken back at first, but I could not stop watching. QOTD: I started watching WLTV Last July (about six months ago). I still remember my immediate first impression. I thought the show had a bunch of off-the-street people tasting wine, because Gary seemed like such a east coast spaz. By the end of that episode I was amazed at how well he could pick out individual and subtle flavors. I have been watching most every day since. Although I do skip many of the white wine episodes. Ya, I know it is wine but is it really?

Another great episode, Gary. Maybe I should try more Pinots, eh? QOD: I remember we had a chuckle over this in L.A. I started watching with the episode right before the episode where you had many, many opened wines and you were going to taste wines ‘that had been previously opened’…then a friend of yours came up to you, whispered in your ear that you were late for a friend’s wedding and you had to go! Apparently, that episode made a few others upset, you had said. This must have been late July, early August 2006. I was hooked from then on!

    Hi Gary,
    Around the week before
Thanksgiving. Then I down loaded back to the beginning of November and had a marathon week of The Thunder Show. I still go back here and there to watch some older episodes. I had to watch #1 just to see how much it has changed. I can’t tell the difference Ha-Ha. Actually, you have become so more much comfortable in front of the camera and a lot funnier. I have then, sort of, skipped throughout the year and watched maybe every twentieth episode to witness your evolution.
On another note, I am, was, a HUGE Pinot Noir fan from way back and I was upset with the movie SIDEWAYS. I turned to my wife after Paul Giamatti’s little monologue about the “Specialness” of pinot noir and said “There goes my chances of finding anything good at a reasonable price anymore”. I have since started drinking more Syrahs and gone back to some lower priced Bordeaux wines. See you March 29th.

started back in October 07, with the Chateauneuf Du Pape episode. had seen link to the episode on the itunes for many months but some dude sitting in front of a desk with couple bottles of wine didn’t seem very appealing at the time. now i watch just about every day and catch some of the earlier episodes on varietals of my interest that I’ve never seen. spent about 500 bones within past two months in springfield, and i live in philly…..oye…i dive into new hobbies way to heavily….

OK, OK. Now I cannot complain since you moved the date away from Easter – accept that I’ll be flying to Switzerland on business that day – Darn it!!! :-(
Oh, well. One of these days…

QOTD: I started watching with Episode #1, but I didn’t know WLTV existed for the first couple of weeks until I stumbled upon it on the Wine Library web site. So I went back to Episode #1 and started from the beginning and quickly became addicted. And the only reason I started watching was that I had gotten e-mails from Wine Library for some time that often stated that “Gary Vaynerchuk, Director of Operations gave this wine 93 points” and I said to myself, “Who the hell is Gary Vaynerchuk and why should I care what HE thinks?” Funny. LOL

  231. January 16, 2008

    Wine Not?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for not killing the “sniffy sniff”!!! That would have been sad indeed…

QOTD: I started watching you just before Thanksgiving 2007 when someone at my wine book club (yes, you read that correctly!) recommended your site. Now I’m hooked…you are a great way to finish my day and you always crack me up! I’m finding myself describing wines I taste in ways I never did before…not long ago I had one that screamed of Sweettarts! Seriously! I am also spreading the word to all of my friends and am showing them not only episode 125 but episode 182 (you outside in NJ sleet). Your Michigan following is growing!

By the way, any chance you might have another wine bash at WL this summer? Would love to be there 3/29 but I’ll be drinking wine in Spain! ;)

    QOTD: Beer Library Episode #327

I had just watched an airing of you on Nightline (ABC). At the time, I was playing around with the idea of drinking some wine (for a change). The beer episode was great, but I started to go through the links of videos you had off to the right margin. I was fascinated and intrigued with your style. You had such a passionate and genuine way of preaching your opinions and knowledge about wine. It changed my life (honestly it did [just ask my family]).

    Great show, GV.

I started watching WLTV during the summer of 2007. I live in CA, but I was dating a girl that lives in Manhattan. I work with wine and talked a lot about it with her. She mentioned an article she’d read about some “guy in New Jersey” in New York Magazine. She emailed me the article, I read it, and then clicked the link that took me to my first episode. I then shared the show with two of my closest friends who also work with wine. We are all, the three of us, now avid Vayniacs.

Episode 379. Just started learning about wines and ran into your website on a search. Saw the link to your wine blog on left hand side. The still picture was you with the hood of your sweatshirt up and I thought that the show could be interesting. I was correct. Watched every episode since, and many of the archived episodes. Keep’n it real on the internets.

Good show. May be I got you wrong, but Sideways is just a movie. And a pretty decent one too. It is NOT an extension of Parker, WS etc as you said. I bet Alexander Payne never intended to affect the wine market. I’m not a fan of Sideways or Pinot.

I started watching wine library tv about a two months ago. I discovered the program by accident while doing research on video blogging.

Now I can’t stop. I have my own wine tastings like you do on the show. In my house. In the afternoon. Because I’m retired and that’s how I roll. I’m even contemplating cheese’s at this point….but my cholesterol is high so… :(

I even have the Big Ass Glass..!!!!

I started watching in November 07. I was cruising iTunes podcasts and came across WLTV and decided to give it a sniffy sniff. I honestly didn’t know what to make of you. At first I thought you were too hyper for my cup of tea but it was like a car crash I couldn’t look away. After about the first four shows it was your passion and “realness” and I was hooked and signed up for the Christmas pack. I have since gone back and have seen every episode and I am now a WLTV addict.

    1. Don’t retire sniffy sniff

QOTD Started watching around the one hundred and teens. Not sure the exact episode now, but have not missed one since!

There was a huge thread on a wine makers bulletin board over at Robert Parkers site about color and it’s importance to the wine maker. Most of the old timers and traditional new guys do not try to boost color through cold soaking or other means just for colors sake.

A great maker Sam Tannahill from Oregon had this to say:
“I believe that the quantity or density of color does not really matter in Pinot Noir. It is more the quality that matters. That being said I have had delicious bottles of Pinot Noir that have been as dark as night from trustworthy producers that spoke of place in volumes much greater than light thin Pinot Noir from crappy producers that over cropped and harvested early.”

J CRAZY CRUSH GARY GOING BACK ON SNIFFY SNIFF BUT NO GO BACK ON MOTT LINK IT UP T-SHIRT. CRUUUXXHHH INCONSISTENCY!!!

QOTD: Back from the mid 50’s I believe.
Seriously though, you canned Mott Link It Up after one day and gave into sniffy sniff like a little girl. If you’re gonna be weak to Vayniac pressure be consistant with it. Sure, the initial one day reaction to Mott Link It Up was weaker than expected but over the last couple weeks haven’t we tried and true Vayniacs, the crack in your pipe, the plasma in your blood and the generals charging forth to change the wine world shown you that we love Mr. Mott and would like nothing more than to have his effort of tears and blood for us immortalized on a T-Shirt?

Tell me if I am the only one. If so then I’ll shut up, but “link it up” will not be with us forever lest we include it in the annals of commercialized WLTV paraphernalia.

Oddly, I told a couple of friends about it and they all responded that it was an entertaining show but none of them have joined the Vaynernation! (Unless they just don’t want to admit it.) I’m gonna have to join in on the calls for a Mott, link it up! t-shirt or bumper sticker!

Gary: what are you thoughts on non-Burgundy, old world pinot (PN from Austria or German Spätburgunder/Blauburgunder? Johann Heinrich “Weisses Kreuz” Pinot Noir from the Burgenland is very nice, but made in more of a New World style. Recently had a 2001 – nice secondary notes of sandalwood and spice on it.

Can’t remember the exact episode number, but it was immediately after you were mentioned in Diggnation. I was new to podcasts and weblogs and such and I had gotten an ipod for christmas 2006, so early 2007 was learning about all the content that I had never known existed. They mentioned you and I was immediately hooked.

I think it was an episode on california zinfandels, right before your Ellen appearance. I found a wine I was looking for on Wine-Searcher.com only at Wine Library, ordered it, joined the email list, then followed the links…got hooked and have since caught up on a lot of old episodes. It has definitely helped me to be more confident about selecting wine and not worrying so much about not liking something. :)

I was introduced to your show and wine library .com by my neighbor December 28, 2008 when they invited us over to their house to watch and jointly do a wine tasting with your show. They linked up your show to their new HD TV, ordered the wines you were tasting, and along with you we did the wine tasting while watching you on their T.V. I am hooked!!!! Thankyou for bringing your expertise to the masses.

Watching (and lurking) since ep. 300 or so. Now I’ve delurked. I can’t remember how I found wine library, I think I was googling a wine name. Wish Maryland would allow receiving mailed wines, it is sometimes hard to find the wines mentioned at the local store.

Why don’t you just admit the real reason you rate wines on your show. I believe you when you say you don’t believe in ratings but I don’t believe the excuse you give for why you rate wines, i.e. because of your affinity for sports. Come on now. People (your viewers) want you to rate wines on your show; and then they go out and buy them based on your ratings as well as Parkers, WS, etc… Why don’t you just admit that the real reason you rate wines is because this is what your audiance wants/expects and not doing so would cause you to lose a large percentage of your audiance. Here’s an angle you might want to try. Tell your viewers that you don’t believe in ratings however from experience you understand that most people do base their wine buying decisions (rightly or wrongly so) on the ratings provided to them by the “experts”; then tell them to trust their palates. A little honesty might be a better approach.

Started watching in about Dec 2006.. Just on the net trying to learn about Allegrini Amarone I had drunk; and I became an instant vayniac. I even spread the Vayniac gospel to my kids and most strangers at my local wine place.

    Gary…………………

Have you heard, there is scientific evidence regarding the health benefits related to drinking Pinot Noir ? It contains the very highest level of the antioxidant reservatrol! So it’s not just “Sideways” that’s turning people to Pinoot Noir.

“InVino Sanitas” In wine there is health………..

    GV,
First of all, love the “sniffy sniff”….please keep it!
QOTD: I started viewing around episode #50….it is amazing how far the show has come. The fun thing about this show is that when I tell others to watch…they all love it!

For the future, keep bringing the truth about wines like Pinot Noir to the viewers….there is no question that these wines have changed in the last 5 years.
Can’t wait to see more episodes of the 05 Burgandy’s….had an 05 Clos Du Moulin last night and it was fantastic!

I’m glad you liked the Lily. I had my first one a few months ago, and was very impressed. It may have been a different vintage. I will definitely look for the Breggo. Pinots, red Burgundies, and Northen Italian wines are just about all the red wines I am buying these days.

Nice Pinot episode GVNC! Out of the all the well-known varietals I believe Pinot probably deserves a consistent thunder show appearance more than the rest. Because in the world of Pinot Noir there are really good bottles and a plethora (haven’t used that word in awhile) of not so good bottles…but not a whole lot in between.

And thanks for not retiring the “Sniffy Sniff”. Deep down you just can’t help but love the “SS”, that’s why it was able to slip out last episode. Let the “S Deuce” fly!

GV – I began watching you after I visited your NJ store over a year ago. I am a NJ native who moved to Boston and now has to go back to NJ to get some great wines because the silly state of MA doesn’t allow you to ship to us. Silly. Still, I try to seek out some of the interesting wines that you introduce us to – sometimes I hit and sometimes I miss. But always – I enjoy the ride.
Also – Jason Hicks compilation of episodes is hilarious – and you all the way. He captured your essence – not too fruity – not too explosive – and with some great hair styles along the way. Nice finish too.

    Thanks for being you.

I figured I should check this podcast out. QOTD: It was the Diggnation picks episode that got me over to your site, so #226 April 2007. Wow, I’ve been watching for 9 months already?? It was perfect timing as I remember saying that week I wanted to figure out what was so great about wine and why people are so into it. I’ve learned a lot, but my palette needs some work…a grad student can only afford 1.5 bottles a month on average!

BTW, I finally opened the Torrentes from the Thanksgiving pack and it was totally awesome cause it was so different from anything I’ve tried. I shoved it in a lot of friends’ faces just to smell it!

Keep it up. Looking forward to MWM’08 (March Wine Madness) at the lib!

You really sold me on the Lily, I’ll be on the lookout for that one. It’s very interesting that you like that last wine even though it sounds like it has some Syrah-like enhancements; it totally makes sense to me–if it’s delicious, it’s delicious.

QOTD: I started watching WLTV when Scoble linked to it after the Vloggies in November 2006, but I didn’t watch it daily until sometime around June 2007.

  390. January 17, 2008

Another great show Gary. So glad you’re back. Withdrawal pains from last week have subsided. One of my friends insists that good PNs only come from Oregon. I’ll have to get a bottle of the Breggo to go up against her Patricia Green!
QOTD — I’ve been watching for a little over a month and look forward to every episode. There’s so much to learn about wine. Now, how did I find you?? Believe it or not, Ravelry.com, a website for knitters. In the Wine forum someone asked ‘Are you a Vayniac?’ Not knowing what a Vayniac was, I clicked on the link to your site and am hooked.

  391. January 17, 2008

    Mr.Ambassador

    Hey GV,

You’ve sparked my interest in the Lily Pinot Noir (enough so that I was opening another window on the computer to look up the winery info during the WLTV episode).

QOTD – I’ve been an active viewer since February 2007 (almost 1-year).

  392. January 17, 2008

I’ve been watching the show for about a year and really enyoy it. Overpriced Pinot Noir is a great opportunity to find unwanted merlot. How about finding some killer $15 Merlot(hint, hint). The only Lily wine I’ve had was a ‘01 Merlot that was also excellent. Sniffy sniff should be retired, let’s move on.

QOTD: Not positive, I think around #200. Diggnation or some other podcast mentioned WLTV (pretty briefly IIRC) and I thought I’d try it out. Didn’t really take to it at first. I remember some of the episodes out soon after I heard about WLTV were from France and I found them nearly impossible to watch and listen to, but you gradually grew on me… still have to mute the sound when your sucking and swirling ;-)

QOTD: I have been overhearing your show since August 2007 because my husband is a big fan and it seems he’s always watching while I’m trying to cook dinner or generally get something done. But tonight was the first time I sat down and willingly watched an entire show. And guess what? I enjoyed it!! I will always remember “my first time” with the pinot noir episode.

    Hi Gary,
I started watching you at episode #1.
In the early shows you could hear the camera man breathing and it covered over your voice almost completely. Big changes since then and we are all really proud of your rise to the top!
    Thanks for many enjoyable programs.

I’m going to have to say it was Episode #348 – A Taste Of A 2005 Bordeaux. I was talking about wine with a co-worker of mine (computer industry) and he had mentioned “some crazy guy who ate dirt on Conan.”

I must say, I enjoyed that episode, and ever episode afterwards. Thank you for being such an entertaining voice in the world of wine.

So why do you want to change the ’sniffy sniff’…I just got all my wine friends converted into saying it *grin*? Is there a better Gary V word for ’sniffy sniff’? Bring it on…

Another great show…..QOTD: April 27, 2007 to be exact…..Haven’t missed an episode one since and have almost watched all the previous episodes prior to 4-27-07. Ordered my first bottle of wine that day…LOVE IT….

Great episode Gary. Nice to see you get excited about some rather small producers. Pinot is good, but can be overpriced due to the hype.

QOTD: Was told about WLTV from a friend back in Sept. ‘07. Have watched every episode since and have seen all the past episodes still here on the site. Must say you bring a nice “Flair, as in Nature Boy” to the wine world. Keep doing what you love.

QOTD… I guess you can add me to the list of listener who discovered your show through your friends Kevin & Alex! Can’t say I watched all episodes since then though, it actually took me a while to understand and enjoy your words: I’m from the Old World, sacrebleu!

I am a big Pinot fan and it did not take a Hollywood production to get me there. Pinot is such an austere and interesting wine!

I started watching WLTV about 6 months ago – can’t recall the episode.

Look forward to meeting you in Boston!

I saw a reference to WineLibraryTV on a blog that I read. I forget which one, but I did a search through my Google Reader, and I think it was on Tech Crunch when you provided wine for their event in Boston. Their post about their Boston event towards the end of November coincides with when I started watching the Thunder Show, so that’s my guess.

By the way, excellent call on the Saint Jean du Barroux from Philippe Gimel. I bought two bottles of that wine for my boyfriend’s birthday, and it was great stuff. We’ve since visited the WineLibrary and I picked up a bottle of the Saint Jean for myself. :-) I like the tomato/oregano flavors and I’m definitely looking for more veggie/celery/oregano/tomato-flavored wines.

QOTD: I started about a year ago after WLTV won best wine video blog. I had to see what all the excitement was about – AND GARY’S DELIVERED EVER SINCE!!!

Also, Gary, just wanted to clarify that – at least in California – a wine can have up to 25% of other varietals and still be labeled as a single varietal. So that Pinot could have 25% Petite Sirah!!! Why would anyone want a Pinot that looks like a Cab?

You may have been thinking about the California AVA requirement of 85% of that AVA’s fruit to be labeled with that AVA, i.e. Oakville.

QOTD – I started watching in September 2007. Have been loving it ever since, referred a few friends into watching and my tasting notes of wines I try (and post on my bog) have improved massively after I realised (thanks to Gary) that I could describe what I see, smell and taste in my own words!

Loved the Pinot episode – I have hope of finding a decent one at a reasonable price point. The last Pinot I had would have been about 5 months ago, it was a 1997 from somewhere in the US – and had flavours of tobacco, forest floor mushrooms and dark cherries (from a black forest cake) was tasty as and – the only reason I tried it was because its pre-Sideways :\ gotta get over the irrational avoidance of some wines.

I am so late in viewing this episode, but I’m really glad you tried Breggo. While I’ve never had their wines, I am a huge fan of the Anderson Valley region, it is temperature-wise cool enough to do those Alsace styles and Pinots really well, its a small non-touristy region, the tastings are usually free, and the main town of Boonville also has the Anderson Valley brewery which is added bonus. Every time Gary rags on oakiness or fruit bombs in California wines (which I get) I think: why oh why are you not trying Anderson Valley stuff? Thank you! It’s such a fine fine region.

As far as I can tell I have been a lurker for 12 whole hours, and to answer your question I started on episode 404 (linked off of googled “ov guide”) and I am absolutely IN FUCKING LOVE (in fucking-fatuated) with this show.

The snow-induced hyperactivity, the wine affection-ado, the super-fun guests, all of it. Fo’ serious, I’m a lifelong fan, and I’ve only been watching for half a day.

Peace n love n wine, baby.

Just came across the show today and forwarded it to at least 50 people. Greatness man… I can totally get behind a wine review that involves a Dave Winfield reference… I love your Noir suggestions too. Ive been on a big Morgan 12 Clones kick with a nice peppery steak or pork tender loin. Im definitely rocking suggestions to broaden my horizons. Thanks bro.

QOTD: I was planning a wine tasting for some friends, and I thought it would be funny to sneak in 2 Buck Chuck amidst the other wines. Though I didn’t end up doing this in the tasting, I did, in mid April, do a Google search to find something out about Charles Shaw, which I hadn’t ever had. Your 2 Buck Vaynerchuk episode popped up, and I’ve been watching ever since. I watch the new one each day, and then listen to the old episodes while drawing at work. (I’m an architect, and I like to have talking in the background while drawing.) That’s why I am just now getting to this episode.

i started watching yesterday. heard about it from kevin rose. im waiting to start my job in a week so i have all kinds of free time and have watched like 50 episodes. became an instant fan added you on twitter (jesseww) and told all of my friends to watch your shows. i think the reason is because i dont know anything about wine so when you say it tastes like dirt or cigars i get the taste. and about you only reviewing wines that you sell. duh! that is what your show is about. and it makes it better because if i see you taste it then i know where i can get it at and i dont have go searching. im really web 2.0 kinda person and you just make it connect with what i am into.
    thanks
