I discovered Petit Verdot about 3 weeks before I discovered WLTV. Two brilliant discoveries in a single month, can’t complain about this and now, a dedicated PV episode! Cheers for really bringing the thunder GV!

I’ve only ever had two PV’s – a Pirramimma PV and a Hugh Hamilton PV – both from the McLaren Vale in South Australia. I prefer the Pirramimma of the two – its heavier and coats your mouth so much more. The Hugh Hamilton is much more variable in quality (same vintage – so not sure what’s going on there) but has a very interesting story – the vineyard was pulled up because it was looking like the stuff in the barrel would not be worth bottling (which it was, and did and ain’t too bad) for the 3rd or 5th year running. However it seems a combo age of vines and working out how to handle them led to a pretty good drop. I now have 6 bottles left at home, and they are mine, muhahaha!

Cheers for an episode of the awesome grape that is Little Green.

QOTD: Nope, never as a varietal, unless it was in a blend… will look to add to my “cellar”.
Good on you for the charity event!

Really enjoyed the show. We’ve been looking for Petit Verdot varietals for some time. Haven’t found any.

QOTD: I repeat, we haven’t found ANY. We will continue looking.

Where’s Wednesday’s EP Gary? Because a whole lot of “US” and not even the slightest trace of “you” aren’t changing the wine world one iota on a Wednesday.

I’ve never tried petit verdot that I can remember – Can’t really think of the last time I saw it in the places I shop… I’ll have to keep my eyes peeled :)

QOTD: I have never had Petit Verdot, but after this episode I may have to give it a try. I will try to seek out the Murphy Goode (sp?). I am not waiting for this weekend to try Petit Verdot. ; )

Quik and to the point…nice ep!!

QsOTD: Yes I did. It was a 2002 Marques De Grinon 100% PV. I thought it was fabulous! My girlfriend sold her wine shop and gave me the bottle. If I could afford it I would have more of that grape for sure!!!

Want to try the Murphy-Goode…closer to my price range.

QOTD – had a priammima petit verdot that was great…..

QOTD: Used to be a member of the Murphy-Goode wine club – tried their PV through the club and really enjoied it. Never thought to age it – wine doesn’t last that long at my place.

Unspoken QOTD – why yes Gary, I’d love a free Apple TV, thank you.

What the hell happend on the first wine? You did a complete 180 on it! Did you realize you were supposed to bash it? watch yourself again on that wine…..it makes me think you were starting to praise it and then said to yourself “oh shit I’m suppose to give this wine a thumbs down!” is that true?

Why are you super sad? Is it because of the big bad G-Men making to the Bowl as well as the hated Patriots my good man. Maybe it’s time to re-think what New York football you are going to root for.

On the Wine front. I have hate a PV, I forget what kind, but it was a major fruit bomb.

QOTD – I’ve only ever had one 100% Petit Verdot – a grape in its pure state that I sought out for a very long time (I love big fat Cabernet, and when I learned that P.V. can be even bigger and fatter than Cab … well, what would you expect?).

The one I found was the Aussie Pirramimma, it was good, but it didn’t kill me – oddly enough, I found it just a little hollow, I’d give it an 88 or 89:

Gary’s right of course, P.V. has huge potential, can’t wait till I get a chance to try one that really kicks butt.

QOTD: Never had a PV. I suppose I’m waiting until I’m on an expense account.

Never had a PV before, but it sounds intriguing. My wife likes the lighter sweeter wines, but she’s being more adventurous lately. I’ll be picking one up.

I had Petit Verdot at Heitz Cellars in Napa. I didn’t find it particularly pleasant.
