I’ve tried one PV, the Northstar Petite Verdot. I really enjoyed it, definitly thought it could use some time sideways. My wife wouldn’t let me buy…..

Great Episode, nice of you to try lesser known grapes.
I’ve only tried one and it was at a tasting in Seattle,
it was the 2004 Januik Petit Verdot Ciel du Cheval Vineyard.
It was very a dark and concentrated wine.
I would try more but you just don’t see much Petit Verdot in the local
    wine stores.

Thanks for the great episode on a grape you love!

    QOTD:
    1) I haven’t had a PV yet.
    2) n/a
    3) I’m waiting to be able to afford ANY wine since I have to pay for a wedding this summer! (my own wedding that is, just got engaged not too long ago)

QOTD: Never had one, and it doesn’t sound like a wine I would enjoy. However, if I run across one at a tasting, I would give it a shot…

Just a new 2 week old vaniac, and 2 month old wine steward in Washington state. (I love that you love, and I love, what we’re doing here in the wine world.)

A couple of my friends, my wife and I were able to do some blending at Conn Creek in Napa. So we were able to taste wines out of the barrel from vineyards all over the valley. One that was facinating to me was the Petite Verdot. I could have bottled it by itself! That would have taken the fun out of the blending experience though. It’s fun to see it out on its own.
I may seek out the Murphy Goode.

GV, My wife and I agree that the Meeker PV was the best of the few we’ve had. Actually, that gave us the idea that you should do a Bordeaux blending secret pak. We did a blending party for New Years eve, 2005 and wound up with a PV heavy blend to go with the Rib Roast that night. Blending bordeaux variatals has become a hobby with us since that night. What do you thnk???

I had the Murphy Goode once on the rec of a local mechant, I remember liking it (”good food wine”) but not much else about it, I will definitely pick up another bottle…

QOTD: I have not, I shall go check it out as soon as I can

A rather short episode this time around. Short on time today, Mott and Gary?

    Wine Not?

I had PV from the barrel at a Franciscan blending tasting last year. We had to taste the 5 grapes and then make our version of Magnificat. That was fun! Anyway, as I remember the PV was something of a monster and I thought it probably wouldn’t work as a single varietal….guess I was wrong! I’ll have to pick one up soon and give it another try, thanks to your show!

QOTD: Have not had one. . .need to try one. But my local wine store only has one type (according to their website). Maybe, I’ll have to pick one from your outlet, GV.

    AH, OH, APPLE!

    GG, GV.

    1. Yes. I enjoyed it.
    2. Can’t remember what it was. Crap.
    3. I like trying new stuff, no problems there, its the budget that’s the limit.

Love the PV show!! The best one I’d ever had was never really one at all–it was the Petit Verdot component of the Cain 5/Concept. Met up with Chris Howell and he brought some barrel samples…being an enology student definitely has its privileges! Oh, and there are better Virginia PV’s out there–try the ‘06 Veritas.

I think you said green 12 times…I have never had a petit verdot by itself. I thought is was mainly a blending grape to add color and tannin. So to answer part 3 of the question, I have never seen or noticed it other then in a bordeaux blend.

Think I had a PV at a tasting room in Napa at some point… but I don’t seem to remember so it must not have been all that good. I hear the WA state ones are kickin’ butt though.

yup, I have about a case or so of PV in the wine cooler. Mine are various vintages of the Australian producer DogRidge from Maclaren Vale. Have a good evening all.
