The best Verdot I ever tasted was out of the barrel at Hanna in Alexander Valley. Purple, plush and ripe. That's rare for this grape, but Murphy Goode and Rancho Sisquoc get close also.

A petit verdot varietal was the first ever "real" wine I had, and it was love. (Trinchero 2001 -- great complexity. Still tasting the finish.) I haven't tried any others because I see it so rarely, but I definitely keep a look out. (And, now I'm going to watch for cab francs...) I'm also always on the watch for dry, green whites. Sauv. blancs, of course, but they're so hard to do well, especially here in Zin country. I need to learn more about Alsace wines.)(Actually, I need to learn more about everything.)

P.S. How cool is your mom!
