Great show. It seems charisma runs in your family, although, perhaps out of necessity, AJ’s is more subdued. Favorite exchange:

GV: Is green your favorite color?
    AJV: It’s up there.

QOTD: Yes, two older sisters, both pretty cool, though I can never tell them that – I’m the bratty little brother, they’d think something was wrong if I started to act all civil toward them!

Aw dude, this is awesome, my 21st is tomorrow! Although the French in me means I’ve been lovin wine for a while now. Happy birthday AJ, many happy bottles to you!
QOD: none o that sibling stuff, I’m on my own!

    Happy Birthday AJ.

I lovet that both you and your borther for not freaking out over the bell pepper and herbal character of this wine!!! Treating vegetal characteristics in wine like the bubonic plague has led to the progeric fruit bombs.

I wonder if it would have been beneficial to AJ (and other newbies) for GV to make the distinction between “bitter” and “astringent”. I have found that first-timers may confuse “spice” and “pepper” for “bitter”.

QOTD: I am the oldest, but I must say that your relationship is to be envied. So many siblings don’t connect the way you guys seem to.

Happy Birthday AJ! QOTD: I am the oldest in my family, but it’s funny how even though my brothers are younger I feel like they are still teaching me about life.

Fun, fun and more fun. Happy B’day AJ!

QOTD: Nope, I’m the oldest though I can say my younger brother is a jewel.

Now, for that sad, sad day come Sunday. t will be utter h*** watching it.

    Cheers to AJ!

P.S. Should of had the ‘87 Dominus. It would have blown his and your socks off.

Happy B-Day AJ, I really enjoyed this show. I am the oldest, but I have been letting my son who will be 21 in AUG try different wines with me. Not every night and usually, not more than 1 glass. He really enjoys wine, and his palette is developing quite nicely. Thanks, for the recommendations.

Nice episode- welcome to the wine world AJ.

QOTD: no older siblings nor younger for that matter. I’m the only one.

Had to come back for a 2nd post after watching the whole show:
Lots of love. So much, I’m feeling it! What a cool show – introducing AJ to wine and letting us experience it. Thanks.

QOTD: I’ve taught my older brothers about wine. They are cool, but we’re not as close as AJ and GV.

Happy birthday, AJ! Any time Gary has a family member on the show rocks!!!

QOTD: My older brother and sister love me very much, so I’d have to say they are just as great as Gary.

    Happy Birthday AJ!!!
Gary, great show today. I wish my 21st could have been something like that instead of everyone buying me a different shot from the bar and the hangover that came with it.
QOTD- I am am the oldest sibling, I have two younger sisters and they are great.

Great show. Very interesting perspective. I enjoy how you are experimenting with the wines a lot lately.

    Happy Birthday AJ!

Wow, this brought back memories of when I first tasted wine. That was such a great idea with the Opus and buying it the year he was born.

    Great show Gary,
Thanks (as always) for sharing your life and wine with us.

Big that was so cool to do the THUNDER SHOW with AJ. It was great to get his prospective of you and wine. I really enjoy it. My boy is 17 and have a Mayacamas cab ( his birth vintage) just waiting for his day. Ps.

    Happy Birthday AJ !!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Mottster,
What’s with the scanner price tag on the bottom of AJ’s Glass?

    Happy Birthday, AJ.

But I, for one, being the father of four girls, do not believe for one minute that you are having your first drink at age 21. You may have Mom, Dad, Grandma and even GV fooled, but not me.

That show was FANTASTIC!!! There’s nothing quite like a little bro to bring out the best in all of us. I rreally liked the wine choices, I’ve brought my older brother (26 YO) on to the wine scene a bit, and it’s always very intersting to if his tastes develop the same way mine did when I started out. I think AJ should come back on the show every month so we can watch his palate develop :)

QOTD: My older bro is almost as cool as GV (only b/c I’m not 100% sure that’s even possible). He was and is an inspiration for me… and my best friend.

  24. January 28, 2008

    KyBoy

QOTD: Like AJ, I too have a bro who’s older than me by 11 years. He’s been a fantastic brother who’s always guided and looked out for me. Unfortunately he doesn’t share my same passion of wine, however, we’ve spent many conversations over a nice cigar. I have to give him a shout out because he’s in Afghanistan right now kickin some arse. Also a shout out to my sis who’s 8 years my elder…she’s completely awesome.

    Happy Birthday Brotha
