As if I didn’t already hate the Giants enough, now I have to tune in and see their fans here!? I could at least laugh at GV and his Jets (because of course….they suck). Today, I am sick to my stomach as I have to swallow a devastating loss to the friggin Giants. Uccchhh. Vodka is a good choice for today. It can help bring a quicker end to the nausea I feel and help me just get it all out…if you know what I mean.

So, A tip of the cap to the hated enemy as they deserved it for sure. Just a note to all you Blue shirt wearing yahoos, Brady et all will be back next year. Will you? GV, you can save it. You know the Jets have no shot.

    Sincerely,
    Angry, sad and nauseous DK

I use to be much more of a liquor drinker, before I discovered how much I like wine. I use to drink absolute, but being the hardcore man that I was, by far my favorite Vodka was Everclear. 190 proof son.

  35. February 4, 2008

    crank

I liked that you looked a little buzzed at the end of the show. The vodka was doing its thing.

Interesting episode Gary. Nice to see something different every once in a while, although nothing can ever top the vino! Thanks for everything you’ve done for wine and for my half hour of nightly entertainment.

QOTD: I don’t really drink much vodka anymore after I’ve rediscovered gin, but back when I did I tended to lean toward Ketel One

I like vodka, but i dont feel like there is enough difference in them to be terribly picky…i do like Vox though, for the 50s vibe of the bottle if nothing else…

QOTD: Ketel One is the vodka of choice right now, but I would have to say I’ve been drinking a little too much wine to enjoy liquor right now.

    Thanks for the 400, Gary!

A vodka show before a schnapps show?

QOTD:Vodka doesnt work with my personality. If I have to drink pure alcohol its going to be schnapps or whisky.

Since I’m not into Vodka that much, I’ll kinda jump on the bandwagon with Belvedere.

  51. February 4, 2008

re the QUESTION OF THE DAY I must say that the Bison grass vodka evokes fond memories of my time in Poland but that this week we have been going through a bottle of Belvedere, which they curiously did not have in the Polish supermarket Piotr and Pawel. That having been said, WTF would I drink vodka when I can pop 05 Bourdeaux for twenty bucks that could drive the buffalo to extinction?

Again, thank you for the first 400 and your hard work and enthusiasm is well appreciated.

Cheers to all the NY Giant fans!

YAY! Another 400 to go!!! Dude have you tried vanilla vodka? It’s delish. I also had a question for you, oh wise Vay guy: What’s the best wine to use for making Kir? I tried it in France once as an aperitif (I was told it was white wine and part creme de cassis) and loooved the taste. But nobody else seems to know what I’m talking about, so I’d like some professional advice :)
Good luck with the next 400 and thanks a ton!

What a disappointment for the 400th show! Football and vodka? I would rather have watched a show on dirty gym towels and cat pee – oh wait, I enjoyed that one. I hope the next 400 will be as good as the previous 399, which were terrific.

  64. February 4, 2008

Wow! 400! Congratulations GV. I love the WLTV show. I have spread the thunder to my family. Every month we have an open house Red Gravy dinner(Spaghetti sauce). We even send out postcards with the dates all listed. It is open to family and friends alike. We started it to keep our kids and their friends coming back once they got to that age of independence. Anyway, I have spread the thunder to them on multiple occaisions, all of them have watched you and “sniffy sniff” and “give it a whirl” are a part of our meal vocabulary now as we enjoy different wines with our dinner. If you are ever in the Chicago area drop me a line and if Red Gravy is on the calendar, you have a standing invitation. I’m looking forward to the next 400 episodes.

  74. February 4, 2008

400 episodes – that is pretty darn impressive. Thanks for all the knowledge.
Sweet intro – nice to let the fans have a little fun.

QOTD – my go to was Ketel One but I recently had Ciroc and think that a changing of the guard might be in order

I thought it was cool that the superbowl was in my hometown (Glendale), otherwise, not a fan of either team. Congrats on 400. I think it’s neat to look at some of the early shows and you’re just so mellow, like “Hi, I’m Gary, thanks for tuning in” Now I have to turn down the volume and avert my eyes else be bowled over with your ‘thunderous’ energy! Its all good bro.
QOTD: Haven’t had much vodka since the mid-80’s when I snuck some (via water bottle) into an outdoor concert…it was Def Leppard and Europe (”The Final Countdown”). I think I remember the first song, that’s about it. And I remembered not to drink vodka ever again. Maybe I need to try it again with my mature palate!

  85. February 4, 2008

    Matty G.

    Question of the Day

Since I’m not much of a vodka drinker, i’ll have to sheepishly admit that Grey Goose is the best vodka I have had.

  86. February 4, 2008

    Jonathan

    Dansk Vodka all the way!

Gary maybe you can do some Tequila next. Ever have Chinaco Blanco?

  87. February 4, 2008

Loving the new wristband and great episode except I would have rather seen My Pats won. I’m going to spread the thunder by again telling all my friends, wear a WLTV shirt everyday this week, and email anyone I can!!! CONGRATS on 400 episodes!!!!!!!!!

QOTD Blavod from england, or The BEST vodka ever is Hangar One made in Alameda California, comes in a bunch of flavors, literally the smoothest and most tasteful vodka on the planet personal favorite is the Buddha Hand Citron its craft vodka and the even have viognier one.. Oh yeah I love vodka tooo!!!

  88. February 4, 2008

    Dr T from N. Carolina

QOTD — Not really into vodka, but I’ll go with whatever the ‘House Vodka’ was at the Ukranian Sacred Heart Social Club 24 years ago, where one of my grad school friends would bartend every once in a while.

  89. February 4, 2008

    Social Project Brian

Great opening, especially the Oak MOTTster. “Link that up, Vannahchuk!” I can’t wait to see your new MLIU t-shirt designs.

Did those Wine Librarians win a bet or something – is that why they got the Dom and the episode intro today? Lots of New York bragging from a bunch of guys in New JERSEY. Hmmm.

I love that Episode 400 was mostly vodka. (And you mentioned herb? Ha. I’m already predicting that Episode 500 will be taped in Amsterdam.)

The 02 sparkling vodka sounds wild – but only for sipping. Once you mix it with soda, the whole point is gone, right? And the Burdundy rouge sounds great – mmmmm… a radish fart bomb. Sounds awesome, Gar.

QOTD: Favorite vodka? So far, it’s Skyy Vanilla. But I was hoping you’d taste Ciroc – I’m pretty curious about trying that one.

  90. February 4, 2008

    grace

QOTD: Favorite vodka? I don’t drink it much.

Yah! 400 and the BIG ASS GLASS!! So, looking forward to more.

Im glad to see 400 and look forward to atleast 400 more.

QOTD…Love my wine but I don’t touch distilled spirits.

    Gary!

Great goobily moogily! Ep400 rocks! Have only been watching for a month or so but I have learned to not snob under 20 bone wine. Thank you! My wife thanks you!

Try Korean Soju sometime. I would suggest “San” “Chamisil” and “Jinro” Their profiles can be appreciated if you appreciate vodka!

  96. February 4, 2008

    Rob Csenar

QOTD: I’m not a big Vodka guy but I’ve been given a few bottles of Chopin (from Poland) and really enjoyed it.

  97. February 4, 2008

    RichE

    QOTD:
After trying many volka in blind tasting get togethers with my friends.
Beleive it or not, Smirnoff was my favorite.
If you don’t beleive me, try it in a blind taste test for yourself.

  98. February 4, 2008

    Minda

Congrats on #400! I have to agree with all the Hangar One lovers- so delicious! They have a chipotle infused one that makes the best super spicy Bloody Mary. Heavy Water is also good- very clean and smooth.

  99. February 4, 2008

    Malphas

QotD: I’ve got to say that Smirnoff treats me right. I’m a fan of versatility; what else can I say?

I’ve had Gray Goose one time when I was with a friend one evening, and it had some serious bite, but I’m actually intrigued by the O-2 Vodka that you just reviewed.

I guess I’m going to have to link myself up with some O-2 nest time I go hunting for some hard liquor.

  100. February 4, 2008

    Garyh

first, football. i don’t get the ‘world champions’ thing. when i was a very young kid, i briefly collected gum wrappers. now maybe i could have declared myself to be the world gum wrapper collecting champion. but – if no one else in the world cares about that hobby (as they shouldn’t), does that label mean anything? similarly, no other countries my knowledge, except the canadians (eh?), play pro football – and we don’t even play the canadians for the ‘world championship.’ so that title just seems goofy to me. anyway, congrats to the world/national/whatever champions. glad that’s over so i won’t (hopefully) hear of the giants or patriots for a while and i can turn my rant mode off. :-)

qotd: i only drink vodka in mixed drinks. since the quality is lost in the mix, i don’t care much about brands. i buy ketel one just in case i have someone over who cares.

  101. February 4, 2008

    Plminer

Thanks for the 400 episodes of brilliance GV, you rock!
QOTD: Greygoose is my go to Vodka, but I had some crazy schnizza a few years ago brought over from Russia, smooth as silk! Wish I remembered the name…

  102. February 4, 2008

    JK from WV

Come on Gary, give a little shout out to the Giant and their fans. I bet you took a beating today and rightfully so. Great game.

Good show and congrads on 400th show.

QOTD: I’m not much on vodka either, I like gin.

  103. February 4, 2008

    Ed S.

    Happy 400!

QOTD: Not that big on vodka… as rare as it is, its going to be Grey Goose. How about some Scotch!

  104. February 4, 2008

    chris the greek

    GO 400 MORE!!!

Go the Russian hook up. Wish i had the same love for Ouzo!!!

Favorite vodka: Absolut Level, even though i cant cheer for a spirit that is ment to taste of nothing!!! Would we drink a wine that tasted of water?

    Congrats on reaching 400

Looking forward to what even the Thunder Show evolves to……..

Ah, GV, yesterday made up for having to watch Joe Walton run around like HE had won the Super Bowl that time your Jets knocked my Giants out of the playoffs. You remember. I told you about it. Yesterday ALMOST made up for sitting through that debacle down in Tampa in 2001. Figures that was the year I got SB tickets!
But, hey, THanks for 400 episodes, dude!

QOTD: not a vodka guy. Anything decent will do if I’m going that way.

    Gary,

Happy 400! I can’t tell you how much enjoyment my fiancee and I have garnered from watching you every day. Here’s to another 400!

    Neil

QOTD: Don’t drink much vodka – I’d have to say Stoli is still the house favorite. I have to wonder that after a shot of heavy dill infused vodka your tasting notes are as on point as usual, but heck, you are Gary V.

I’ll meet your 400 and raise it another 400. Mott link that up!

I just sent a mass email to everyone on my list. Maybe you can convert my friends from cheap beer and jager bombs.

    CONGRATS ON 400!!!
Great show, something new and interesting but very enjoyable.

QOTD: I also am not a huge vodka drinker. More scotch and whisky(bourbon).
But Ciroc would have to be my choice.

  114. February 4, 2008

    Machine

Thanks for calling out Grey Goose – way too sweet for my taste. If I want something sweet, I’ll hit up the Bison Grass vodka with some apple juice (or maybe Ciroc & tonic). If I want a cool bottle sitting around, I do up the Belvedere.

    QOTD: I’m partial to Zyr.

Fart bomb?!? When I smell that, I usually leave the room…
QOTD: I’ve like Rain vodka. It’s got nice roundness and it’s still very clean. Mixes nicely with tonic, too (ooops… should I not have admitted that I mix it to a Russian?).

Keep up the great show, GV. I’m looking forward to more.

  117. February 4, 2008

Hey GV – You have no idea just how much I appreciate this show each day. I’ve learned a ton about wine, have expaned my palate, and finally your a flat out entertaining guy who it is obvious are passionate about wine. Don’t ever stop and thanks for 400 great episodes.

Gary great episode I love the Vodka. That dill vodka sounds perfect for me. I am going to look for that in cali. The new wristband is sick i want one of those for sure to complete my collection :) 400 MORE!!!! I will be here if you do it. Thanks for your dedication to the show. The vayniacs know all the hard work and sacrifice to your personal life the show causes. We appreciate it very much Gary!!!

    QOTD:
-A local joint that makes Vodka here in the bay area called hangar 1, makes a really good lime infused vodka made with real limes no fake fruit crap. That is at the top of my list.

QOTD: By far, my favorite vodka is Luksusowa. As a Polish potato variety, it brings a mouthfeel that no grain-based vodka can. Plus, it carries its floral and viscous characteritics with a finesse well beyond its remarkably low price. Find it in the square bottle. At this price, even if you don’t care for it straight up or in martinis, it makes excellent and affordable cocktails – cosmopolitans, bloody marys, screwdrivers, etc.

  129. February 4, 2008

    malliemcg

Loving spreading the thunder – I’ve got the blog, I’ve got the word of mouth and now I’m ripping off the show at work :P .

QOTD – I’m not a massive fan – I’ve had pot still, citroen, vanilla, blueberry, Smirnoff (red and blue). I’d have to say I don’t like the Vanilla one. I’d have to say the Blue Smirnoff was the nicest, I do prefer to mix my vodkas than drink ‘em straight.

    M

PS: Congrats and THANKS for making it to 400.

Wow, episode 400! Nice work GV.

Favorite vodka is Hanger One. Excels in the one big category I care about with vodka – SO SMOOTH! Great mouthfeel, I suppose.

Vodka is a good spirit to shift gears, specially on well done Martinis. I use to get very creative and usually improvise a lot on cocktails like martinis (one of my favorites). I found an under the radar vodka which I like straight or mixed. The name is Jean Marc and if you see it buy it, you won’t regret it. Now for mixing I prefer adsolute orange. Changing the subject, congrats to the NY Giants……great game they almost got the “Pretender” on the only game they payed on regular season. I think the first time the Giants just broke the ice on NE Patriots. Then I have to also give some credits to the Ravens who almost beat them clean and such removing the invinsible shield this other people think they have….well that’s enough already… to Ceasar what it’s of Ceasar….Great Job GIANTS !!!!!!
    P.S next super bowl … Dolphins / Jets ….See ya GV crying….

Nice episode. Would like to see you occasionally do other spirits as well. I’m a huge Tequila fan. Ever had Casa Nobles Anejo? Simply fantastic and almost crosses over to a scotch like taste.

Bringing the Thunder: I’ve already (over the weekend) emailed everyone on the mailing list of a side business I run (approximately 900 customers). I’ve already gotten back 22 emails saying how much they enjoyed your show. Three of the 900 asked me not to use my mailing list for such things (I guess I’ve lost three of my customers for you but that’s alright). Love the show and am at the Library once a month to stock up.

QOTD: Drink much more tequila than vodka but I guess I’d have to go with Belvedere. Cheers mate.

400 Episodes! Thank you Gary for your hard work. I’ve learned so much about wine in the last 18 months. Now people come and ask me for recommendations!

Congrats to the Giants and the Giants’ fans! Great game too.

I like when you change things up occasionally. Nice little Vodka episode. Dill vodka sounds interesting; I’m not sure how much I could stand to drink though. Sounds like drinking the pickle juice out of the jar.

    400 more episodes, yes!

QOTD: I like any vodka anytime, anyplace, well almost.

  147. February 4, 2008

Drinking that Vodka like it was your job. Nice work! You should shoot Vodka on every episode.

QOTD: My favorite Vodka is anything that comes in a half gallon. Just joking. I’d down with the old regular Stoli. Haven’t had real pricey ones.

  149. February 4, 2008

    David James

400 more? Do 1000 more! You make me laugh so much, and you always get me in a good mood, so please please don’t stop ever! Oh and on that news thing it said you get 60,000 hits a day? Now I know what you mean by lurkers. I thought I was bad.

QOTD: I’m a university student, so the only vodka I drink is crappy supermarket stuff that tastes like petrol. Or at the best, smirnoff. So I don’t even know what a good vodka tastes like.

Don’t stop WLTV gary! We love you, even if only a few hundred a day say so.

My most favorite vodka i ever had… Arktic (small producer only ever found in 1 bar in the world. Florence, Italy) it might have even been homemade. It blew me away, and at 16 (thank god for the low drinking age) I was hooked on high-end vodka’s. Now 23 I am hooked on tasting every good wine i can get my hands on. This time it is thanks to GV

    Thanks GV!!!!

Favorite vodka is definitely Ciroc. It’s a French vodka that’s actually made from grapes. I’m very surprised it wasn’t on todays show. Man, I can’t believe we’re at 400 episodes that’s so kick ass. I can’t thank you enough for brightening up my day and sharing so much knowledge and passion. WLTV is always the first thing I do when I get home from busting my butt all day at work. That and a nice glass of wine is the perfect way to wind down. You rock GV!

  154. February 4, 2008

    Christopher J

Great show Gary, congrats on the big 400!!! Sorry about the Super Bowl, how about Eli Manning? I mean… he is no “Kellen Clemens”, but pretty darn good huh? Yes, I was being sarcastic.

QOTD: No Vodka for me, I am really not a big fan. I guess the best one I had probably would be Grey Goose.

  155. February 4, 2008

    Dale Cruse

Remember that show “Coach?” My favorite moment had coach standing in the hallway outside his office. A coed on his way to class enthusiastically asked, “Hey Coach, we gonna win this weekend?” Coach looked puzzled. “Are you on the team?” he asked. When the young man replied no, Coach said, “Then it looks like you’re not going to be doing much of anything this weekend.”

    QOTD: Not a vodka guy.

I spread the thunder by wearing my WLTV shirt when I go out. I tell people about WLTV when they ask what’s on my shirt and love getting comments from Vayniacs on the street. I also post on Daniel Rogov’s wine forum every time you have an episode worth mentioning. I make like Mott and link WLTV up. That usually gets a few hundred reads. I also tell my friends and family about WLTV. I also write a food column for my university newspaper and plan on putting a link in a future article.

  161. February 4, 2008

    Golfer Gary

I don’t drink much vodka so I can’t comment on it. To spread the thunder, I tell everyone in my wine class, friends, family and clients about your show. E-mails too. Congratulations on 400 shows. I’ve watched them all.

  162. February 4, 2008

    Robin C

QOTD: I’m not into vodka; once had a vodka gimlet though
    Cheers for episode 400!

Congrats on 400 GV!!! And way to maintain your Russian heritage- 3 shots of vodka in short succession, way to go. I like the new wristbands too!

Can’t wait to spread the THUNDER!

QOTD: I’m a CKC, so I keep it to Citron (and Sprite). If I had the cash to drop on good vodka, I would…but I’d rather get good wine instead!

And if Belichick can do it, so can I: Congrats to you Mott and your NY Giants.

Just feel like the Giants winning the super bowl brought Gary to a weird mood today…make a strange episode today. That’s all right though, because there will be 400 episodes coming, right? Anyhow, thanks to Gary for keep doing this, I really appreciate this!!

QOTD: Never have a vodka before, not even a sip…so no favorite here.

  166. February 4, 2008

    Daniel B.G.

    QOTD: Vanilla Stoli w/ coke.

It’s funny that you said people watch this at lunch break or when they get home from work. My time to watch is before going to bed. Being seven hours ahead of Eastern time, that means late nights so much of the time. I stay up for the Thundershow, though!

Congratulations on Episode #400 to Gary, and the winning team at Wine Library. It is an impressive accomplishment! Thank you for everything.

QOTD: I haven’t had much vodka, but I would have to say my favorite is The Jewel of Russia. It is pretty classic in its approach, and has a pretty cool package, made complete with a wax seal. Smooth enough to drink on its own, but won’t break the bank if you want to make quality mixed drinks. They also make a Bilberry infused one, that is lower in alcohol, dark red in color, and a touch sweet. Sort of a ready-made Cosmo. I am also very excited about a Long Island vodka coming out soon called LiV (rhymes with 5) made from the famous long island potato.

  173. February 4, 2008

QOTD: favorite vodka and vodka experience? half a bottle of sky snuck into a movie theater when i still lived in NJ to see “detroit rock city” with a bunch of friends. we shared it and dumped it into our orange sodas from the concession stand – amazing baby!

Congrats on 400 Gary – we love you so much and appreciate everything you bring to the table. Check out my thunder spreading – i’ve almost been kicked out of so many liquor stores in LA for telling people they’re spending way too much money on junk – plus me and all of my friends now have a tradition – we watch an episode of TTS after Lost every week now!

    Michael

Gary, can’t stand vodka, and if it wasn’t for the thunder show, I’d still be drinking beer. The reason you are so necessary is there are too many wines and no reason to drink the same wine twice. Not so of anything else (lagavulin, Dogfish head IPA). Without a guide, its too daunting to attempt all the choices necessary to even get started with wine, cheers!

  178. February 4, 2008

    JayZee

Congratulations! I never thought we’d make it to 400! Awesome. And cheers to Mott and all of the other Giants fans – great game!!

Happy 400th Gary! Hey, even if you didn’t like the result of the SB, you had to like the game. Give Eli credit. Most of NY had written the kid off as a championship caliber quarterback, but he showed grit in leading his team to victory. Good job, Eli!

You had me worried there for a moment with the vodka. How could you not review a wine for the 400th episode??? I even popped a bottle of wine for this occasion. Opened up a bottle of South African Pinotage. Don’t really like it, but I’m spending time with it to try and figure it out. We’ll see.

I don’t really like vodka, so I have an alternate QOTD (anybody is welcome to share it if they don’t like vodka either):
What have I gotten out of WLTV so far?
QOTD2: Watching the past 200 or so episodes of WLTV has really made me feel like a part of a larger community. Not just of people who like wine, but of people who like steak, like the Jets, like good tea, like good cheese, whatever it is. Because ultimately this show is about life. It gets crazy sometimes, and some things are unexpected. But it’s grounded in a lot of values, such as enjoying life, spending time with family (huddled around the computer watching WLTV, of course), and it’s mostly about understanding who you are and maybe trying to open that up a little and change and experience new things. Thanks for WLTV, Gary Vaynerchuk, and thank you for letting us change the wine world-heck a lot of worlds-through you.

    Congratulations on your 400th episode.
Great atmosphere for the vodka reviews.

QOTD: Don’t drink much vodka, but my favorite is Grey Goose.

  196. February 4, 2008

    Dr. G

I thought the congrats would be going to everyone there for the 400th ep – as it should!!! However, it appears that the gang there is ALMOST more excited about the Giants win – so congrats on that too – many here in Packer territory quickly became Giants fans in the last few days before the game and were pulling for a win with you.

QOTD: Not sure what they made it with, but had a homemade vanilla vodka that rocked (store bought vodka, vanilla bean dropped in, allowed to sit for about six months) – certainly better than any of the homemade wines I’ve ever tasted :-)

  197. February 4, 2008

    Hamid

QOTD: being part of the CKC I haven’t had all that many kinds of vodka… but my favorite thus far has been lime Smirnoff.

  198. February 4, 2008

Congrats on Episode #400, can’t wait for Episode 1,000.
QOTD: Grey Goose, next time you do a non wine tasting you should do Gins.

The Thunder is spread the old fashioned way and the most effective way. Word of mouth, its a little slow but once you get there, you stay there. Vodka, I love it, seem to always go back to Ketel. 400! the show just keeps getting better, congrats to you and your staff. What happened to Brady? I’ve never seen him look so Manning like, please tell me he didn’t get a new Swiss bank acct.

    HAPPY 400th Brother!!!
Great way to change it up I love the Vodka episode!!!
QOTD: I am now ashamed to say I love Grey Goose. it is very mellow to me… I have had and enjoyed imperia I think it is called but Grey goose is still my fav….

  201. February 4, 2008

    Bob W.

Congrats Gary V on episode # 4 – 0 – 0 !!! Incredible!! Looking forward to seeing where you take the next 400 shows.

    QOTD: Ketel One

  202. February 4, 2008

    Corrado

QOTD: More of a single-malt fan than a vodka fan. Last vodka I bought that I took note of as being better than usual was Van Gogh. Grey Goose has become the Santa Margharita Pinot Grigio.

In the belief that slow & steady wins the race, I gotta declare that bulk-mailing and cramming WLTV down unsuspecting friends’ throats via guerilla marketing by lurkers and fans alike doesn’t demonstrate NEARLY the devotion to the core values of the show as individually recommending WLTV to friends, family, and colleagues via 1-on-1 personal conversation. I LOVE the show and I tell everyone who loves wine about it.

    gary V,

never really had vodka…remember i’m a young drinker…only 23 years of age. i’m still being awed by the wine world. so anyhow…great stuff!

thanks so much gary for doing 400! awesome! rediculous! 400 more? of course!

    Congrats on all 400 episodes.

QOTD: Not really a vodka drinker, though I occaisionally enjoy a vodka dirty martini, usually grey goose or ketel one. It is what it is.

  209. February 4, 2008

    Snarf

QOTD: Stoli Razberi on the rocks! I can drink way TOOOOOOOOOOO much of this :-)

  210. February 4, 2008

    JoshL

Congrats on the 400th GV! Congrats to Mott for the G-men coming through…I actually don’t like the Giants at all considering I’m Eagles fan…but I hate the Pats even more…Tom Brady’s a f…wait I said I’m not gonna say that word in front of kids. Wish I had known about the Boston expo much earlier, though I could just run into you when I visit the store next time…I imagine it’d be a great learning experience to be in an environment like that…hopefully next year.
QOTD: Original 80 proof Belvedere…always enjoyed its purity while I look through the bottle to see the illustration of Poland’s presidential palace. That was easy question since I’m not a big time Vodka drinker, but had you asked about whiskey? whew…I would’ve written a novel…then again….I usually write on novel on these things and couple friends at work have called me a f….wait not in front of kids…for liking this show too much. Now friends who don’t appreciate a friend’s hobby can suck it (can I even say that?…Mott, bleep it up).

  211. February 4, 2008

    Thanks to our Vets!

I wouldn’t want to do many more than 3 vodkas in a show! Loved the Dom P. opening for your Giants fans employees. Nice love.

QOTD: I don’t usually spring for the vodka, but when I do I go for the Grey Goose.

How I spread the thunder: Facebook posts, Facebook applications, Facebook status’, I wear my wristband(s) EVERY SATURDAY AND SUNDAY, MySpace blogs, word of mouth and what my husband and I like to call “Random Gary Quotes”.

    tuscanbob

I think you need to sponsor a Nascar race now…the Wine Library 400.

I don’t like vodkas…in fact, I really don’t like any clear liquors. Bourbon and scotch are how I roll. Beam & Maker’s Mark are tough to beat. I went to Scotland this past summer and sampled my fair share of whiskey between rounds of golf. My favorite was a speyside called Clynellish and was extremely pleased to find it widely available here in the states. A pint of Belhaven’s Best Ale with a side car of Clynellish….oh baby.

Congrats on 400 GV. Keep on keeping on.

  220. February 4, 2008

Great show GV love the Vodka Episode, a drink true to my Ukrainian roots.

  222. February 4, 2008

    CellarDweller

    400. Auspicious. Kudos.

QOTD: Zubrowka, actually. Not just saying that to be contrary. One thing I wonder about: the label on the bottle I had was *very* different that the one you tried. Are there varieties of this vodka? I don’t remember it being particularly over-sweet.

Anyway, congrats, thanks, and can’t wait for the next 400!

  223. February 4, 2008

    Sean

That episode threw me off but was amazing anyway. I like the idea of you venturing into the wider range of alcoholic beverages time to time as a little ‘treat’ for those of us who venture out there too.

QOTD: Wodka Zoladkowa Gorzka is a really good vodka I found, but very powerful. Heavy herbal aroma and taste. Kinda like eating thyme leaves while being punched in the face.

  224. February 4, 2008

    Greg H.

Okay, I’m done lurking! Congrats on 400 episodes, and thank you for agreeing to stick around. I look forward to 400 more.

QOTD: Not a vodka drinker, not at all. Had to give it up after after my old high school buddy and I raided his dad’s liqour cabinet, grabbed a bottle of El Cheapo Crappo, and found a jar of Tang to mix it with. So long ago, yet still recalled with brutal clarity.

GV, Congrats on the 400 episodes. I appreciate your commitment to the show. It really does bring pleasure to each day.

QOTD: I have to throw a shout out to the U S of A and TITO’s vodka out of Texas. It ridonkuously cheap for how smooth it is. It’s distilled 6 times and on point. Major ups to the makers of Titos and the best value in vodka!

  228. February 4, 2008

    Mark in Fresno

Wow, congrats on the 400. Not my choice in vodkas, as I’ll go Belvedere or Hangar One for the thunder. Seriously, I am a Patriots fan, but what a bummer to have this milestone the day after the other team wins. That would be like a 49ers fan having to show up to work in Oakland the day after the Raiders win the Super Bowl. Except that will never happen, so I guess not…

  233. February 4, 2008

    MontanaSage

QOTD: “Hanger One” is really startling; extremely clean and with an ephemeral exotic fruit finish that completely evaporates in about one second.

BTW, I regularly use the trick of running entry-level vodka through a new Brita filter 8 or 10 times: it really does work to make the vodka much cleaner and more pleasing. It doesn’t bring it up to the level of “Hanger One,” but it gives you a nice, clean vodka that makes killer Limoncello, also useful for cooking and homemade extracts.

(I find all commercial limoncello to be “meh” but homemade is a real treat. It’s worth the trouble.)

Thanks for 400. Looking forward to as many more as you can manage.

    And now, back to lurking.

Congratulations Mott and Thanks for all the phenomenal shows and I look forward to many more. QOTD- The best vodka I ever had was a ginger infused vodka at a bar in Paris. Any house infused vodka is usually the best.

    Gary,

OK you win, this was a good show.

    Congrat’s on the 400!!

Absolut is my go-to vodka for my martini. Keep the vodka and the martini glass in the freezer at all times. BUT – to really taste the vodka you should try it at room temperature. It will surprise you. There is an awsome vodka made in New Port Richey Florida called Empire T&W American Luxury. Incredible vodka – even tastes great at room temp. Try it!

  238. February 4, 2008

GV, being a Tulane man in LSU Tiger country, I feel your pain. Arch nemesis wins the big, man, that sucks!

QOTD: Rarely drink vodka, but I’d say old school straight Stolichnaya, no flavors please. You did say we have a week or two to work on the spreading the thunder, I think I’ll start tomorrow by making the national news. Yes, Mardi Gras hammered by “THUNDERSTORMS” hundreds of thousand will hear the thunder in the Big Easy tomorrow courtesy of yours truly.

Did you say Eminem got into the wine business? WTG, Slim Shady!

    QOTD: Stoli Orange (sp?)
From a Pats fan, the Giants earned that championship ring and I was impressed. They had a great run and have a great tradition.
To everyone who just ‘hates’ the Patriots, I understand where you are coming from (Sox v. Yanks) but jealousy just makes you look small.

To Gary V., it has been great and I look forward to seeing you this weekend.

Congratulations on your 400th show. I love the shows and look forward to many more. Stoli , Belvedere, Finlandia. Grey Goose Vodkas. “Gary, you should do a single malt Scotch episode sometime and some other liqours such as Cognac, and, Rocco. “Mott, congratulations to NYG – MEN which will go down as the greatest upset in Super Bowl History thus far. It is amzing to what individuals can do when they play as a team rather than a team of individual superstars. I would love to ask the self centered arrogant Randy Moss how he likes playing the past 15-1 Vikings and currently 18-1 Patriots without winning the big one and no Super Bowl Ring to show.

  245. February 4, 2008

“Zubrowka” is actually pronounced Zuh-brouv-ka. I went to the bottling plant in the Polish town of Bialystok (yes, like Max Bialystock from the “Producers”). In fact, I represented an American company called Central European Distribution Company when it purchased Polmos BiaÅ‚ystok from the Polish government. At the factory, I saw the little old ladies putting blades of buffalo grass in the bottles, one bottle at a time. It was amazing.

Zubrowka is traditionally drunk with apple juice. It makes a great mixed drink!!

Way to go, Giants! Only 2 more to catch my Steelers…

QOTD: I have to go with 2 favorites – one sentimental and the other drinking-wise. Sentimental favorite is Stolichnaya – we used to get it for a dollar a bottle in the Soviet Culture store in East Berlin during the 80’s!
The other is Wodka Chopin, an incredibly smooth Polish vodka.

  250. February 4, 2008

    PFORTY

QOTD: Love the grey goose, but also like to infuse some Absolut Citron with blueberries for a week or two!

Thanks a million for all 400, GV. You rock. Here’s to 400 more, cheers!

  251. February 4, 2008

    Mr.Ambassador

    Yay! 400 more!

Even though my team wasn’t Superbowl bound it was still a great show. Our party bet for next year was “who will be the halftime performer in ‘09?” We had some fun brainstorming and guessing for next year…

QOTD – Favorite vodka, hmmm… Not much of a vodka drinker so I really haven’t sampled many. I did like one variety called “Pearl” though I haven’t sampled any truly “high-end” or “rare” vodkas.

  252. February 4, 2008

QOTD; Not a big vodka fan, Grey Goose was good but overpriced, Stoli Gold was also pretty nice, three olives is ok, Skyy is an american version of Absolute. I enjoy values, so I would probably pick Luksusowa potato vodka for about 12 bones. Pravda is excellent but over advertised, and overpriced.
Thanks for 400 episodes You Rock!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey Gary, great show and happy 400th episode! 800 more? Bring’em on!

I’ve never had a really great vodka, but I’ve never really given vodka much of a chance as a quality alcoholic beverage. Something about it just screams drunken partying to me. I guess that shows my ignorance.

  260. February 5, 2008

whoops…i meant 400 more…got a little bit ahead of myself

  261. February 5, 2008

    Thanks for sticking around Vaynerchuk.

QOTD: EFFEN Vodka is the nicest I have enjoyed so far. Although when I am drinking vodka it is just to get messed up, so I usually just hit the Hawkeye Vodka. It tastes like lighter fluid, but it works.

  262. February 5, 2008

  267. February 5, 2008

    Primo Bo

Congrats on the 400 and GO BIG BLUE! QOTD: Just did a vodka tasting a few months ago with notes on the blog. I like Chopin since I drank quite a bit on a trip to Poland, but Reyka beat it out for the new top spot. Reyka is Icelandic and uses the volcanoes and hot springs in the distillation process. The result is a VERY smooth vodka, and the price is not too bad. I likey.

  268. February 5, 2008

    Erik Klumpp

Great episode and happy 400th. I must say that I am not a vodka man (i.e. Freshman year and a bottle of mccormicks forever turned me off). But I am a scotch man, and my favorite bottle is most definitely McCullen’s 12 year. I’m a CKC so I go too expensive.

    QOTD: Stolichnaya

good 400th episode, vodka was a nice change of pace. I would have done it blind, straight and mixed drink samples, and a greater variety in price. Vodka, like wine is often purchased based on label and hype. It would have been more interesting to see how the cheap ones matched up with the ultra-premiums….do we really need to filter them 6 times? Also, Dill flavored vodka is interesting, but not fairly tasted or evaluated with the others. I did find the sparkling one exciting, if not a bit overpriced. I assume it is meant for mixing, you know, doesn’t water down the tonic and all that. You should have an akvavit tasting episode sometime…If you need any future ideas for your thunder show, don’t hesitate to contact me. Really, i’ll be happy to give you credit.

QOTD: Viking Fjord- most things are better when they come from norway. When i go out and find that no bar in the area carries VF, i order grey goose, three olives, or van goh unless i’m mixing it with strong flavors or i’ve had more than 4 drinks (in which case your senses aren’t all that discerning and you might as well save some money). I’m still somewhat partial to absolut, with its awkward sweetness mixed with rubbing alcohol. Ah, memories of my childhood…..

  272. February 5, 2008

    Russ

“That’s clearly dill, all up in your grill.” – best quote ever.

QOTD: Since I’m still in college, my vodka experience has been either Karkov, Philips, Smirnoff, and Skyy. I guess my favorite of the four would be Smirnoff.

QOTD: Banker’s Club, premium reserve. And by that, I mean the one that comes in the big plastic jug. Pretty sharp on the nose. Pretty stabby on the tongue. Has been known to eat through styrofoam cups (literally!).

Not my favorite vodka of all time, but it has induced my favorite college moments of all time.

I kind of of altered the parameters of the QOTD a tad.

  278. February 5, 2008

Great show! Never saw a Vodka episode coming. A very pleasant surprise. And yes, I am one of those that watches the show to relax after work. It never fails to make me laugh and educate at the same time. Kind of like a circus clown teaching Physics, lol Keep up the outstanding work Gary!

QOTD: Right now I’d have to say Grey Goose. But the most memorable would have to be Taaka. Use to drink it all the time in college since it was so damn cheap! Bad hangovers though, I realized with age the benefits of a higher grade vodka ; )

  279. February 5, 2008

    Yoni Rabkin

    Happy 400!

  280. February 5, 2008

    Dan C

    400 more? yes please.

QOTD: I’m not really a drinker of the heavy stuff. I stick to wine and a good beer here and there … so I’m afraid I don’t have a favorite vodka …. but I will represent for a delicious Tanqueray and tonic.

P.S. sorry GV but i gotta say I LOVE YOU GIANTS!! and this win was special for me since I’ve been a true blue Giants fan from birth and being a younger guy this is only the second super bowl I can really remember seeing! the first one of course was a crushing 35-7 loss at Baltimore … so I’m pretty stoked! So step off all you bandwagon jumpers! It’s not always easy being a giants fan! can I get an amen MOTT?!

QOTD: I’m not really a vodka girl when it comes to spirits. I like dirty saphire martinis, but we ARE talking vodka here, and I have been known to partake of a little hanger one neat. 400!!! THANK YOU GARY!!!

QOTD: Vodka?! I just started drinking wine 4 years ago and I’m 45!

Does contributing content to the Thunder Show and sharing it with my friends count as spreading the Thunder? If not, I’ll have to try harder.

I work as a bartender (at a wine restaraunt) and being someone who appreciates the cocktails of the old school (and lots of flavor in my liquor), I often shun vodka the way it is used and abused by most westerners. The way Russians drink it, with some caviar or other rich food, is cool as hell. The way we do it here in the States, drowned in cranberry juice or tonic water, is not. I do however adore that original “flavored vodka” aka gin, so I guess my favorite brand there would be Junipero, made by Anchor Distilling out in San Fran. My favorite brand that anyone has heard of? Tanqueray, for sure.

    Thanks for 400 great episodes.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I had vodka. I just don’t have the cash flow to get into anything other than some good beer from time to time and, of course, wine.

Oh jeeze, this this a little embarassing but us college kids like to spluge on Skyy vodka for sure. Maybe because of the bottle.. haha

QOTD – last October I was in NY and went to The Russian Vodka Room off of Times Square. We enjoyed a round of their home made infusions – but then ordered off the menu. I really enjoyed Czars Gold vodka. Chocolate and spice with a slightly peppery finish – smooth and satisfying. From Russian – I can recommend it – you won’t be disappointed.

I almost forgot the QOTD: it’s got to be grey goose…as it’s the best of maybe only 5-10 that I’ve tried in my life…

In another note…I have to say that I’m shocked, and dissapointed that we couldn’t get more coments. It is starting to feel like people won’t leave them unless WLTV is threatened with cancellation. I think it’s sad that we as viewers can’t take the…..what? minute….two minutes? that it takes to leave a coment about the show…we’re all busy…but come on. I’m full time CKC and working around 30 hours a week…and I still have the means to leave a comment here atleast 4 of 5 shows…

First of all, congratulations on the episode 400. Hope you manage to do at least as much episodes more, please keep bringing the thunder!

As for today’s show, I was really pleasantly surprised to see you taste the Bison Grass Vodka.
Here in Poland it goes by the name Zubrowka (Zubr is a rough equivalent of Bison) and is quite popular (costs about 7 bucks). According to Wikipedia, the US version might be somewhat different, see the article if you are interested: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/%C5%BBubr%C3%B3wka.

I recommend trying it mixed with apple juice, it’s a pretty good combo.

QOTD: My favorite vodka is Zoladkowa Gorzka (Bitter Stomach Vodka), don’t know if it is available outside Poland, but it has a very nice combination of herbs and roots so I highly recommend it if you happen to visit my country.

I am also waiting for the whiskey tasting show!

Wooohooo! Congrats on making it to 400! You are absolutely RADOOL GV!

QOTD: Since I don’t drink vodka straight up very often, I can’t say I have a “favourite” one. I have had Grey Goose, Smirnoff, and Silent Sam.

  308. February 5, 2008

    Lindsey

Happy 400! I liked the offbeat episode today.

QOTD: I must admit, I don´t drink a lot of straight vodka, and even less since I´ve been living in Spain (actually, I don´t know anyone who drinks it here), but in college I drank a lot of Fleishman´s because of the CKC budget and plus, it´s “Wisconsin´s #1 vodka!” Now I like the flavored Absolut, Svedka, Danzka… however, I am usually drinking them ice cold and at least with a twist.

  309. February 5, 2008

    JerseyGirl turned CNY vayniac

Congrats on 400 episodes Gary! Way to mix it up!

QOTD: I guess I’d have to go with the Absolut or Three Olives if i had to pick from those I know. Not a huge vodka drinker, but those are among my choices when I do.

Alright… i’ve gotta get to work, but then I’m off to spread the thunder!

qotd: i have a friend who makes an amazing cosmopolitan, so that’s usually the only time I have vodka… more of a rum or gin fan with the hard stuff, but even that is very seldom. I’d rather have wine or beer and be able to deal with daylight the next morning.

thanks for so many great episodes. i don’t know what i’d do with the 20 minutes i have in the morning before coffee kicks in and i can really get to work!

Jeez Gary, how many people do you need to leave comments for you to feel good about WLTV? Lurkers aren’t all bad…….And when you gonna do a Yellow Tail tasting episode -hey? Love the show – I watch it on my iPod on the plane usually. I usually go with Level vodka – with lime and seltzer or tonic.

Jesus Gary, you’re such a fucking legend.

I’ve not really had vodka before. I’ve had a few different kinds of whiskey, though. My favourite whiskey is Forty Creek. Great stuff.

It sounds like maybe there was a Giants celebration party going on at Club WL, perhaps ? :-)
Congrats on the first 400 episodes of WLTV, GV, you are awesome !
I’m definitely going to the Boston Wine Expo (both days because I’m VOLUNTEERING on Sunday)… dunno about the dinner yet.

QOTD: I don’t really have a favorite vodka… I’m strictly a Wino these days. A few years back, in homage to my Scottish roots, I had a sampling of single-malt Scotch whiskeys at the Scottish Lion Inn in NH. Damn smooth and fine they were. And yes, *warming*. Recently on a lark I bought some Fernet Branca (Italian digestif) after reading the hilarious “Clash of the Tightest” on moderndrunkardmagazine.com. I haven’t opened it yet – I’m not an actual drunkard maybe, heh heh.

  331. February 5, 2008

    Rob P

Not much of a vodka fan. Occasionally I’ll have a screwdriver at a tailgate, but it doesn’t really matter to me what kind of vodka you mix with OJ. I did taste some interesting looking vodka a few months ago and I found myself smelling it and then spreading it around my pallet and analyzing the flavor…something I never would have done prior to getting into wine.

  332. February 5, 2008

    fotodevil

First off, congrats on 400 episodes! That is incredible! Second, congrats to the Giants. Gary, it pains me to say that as an Eagles fan, but I am truly tired of the Pats.

QOTD: I have to admit that I have not really had too much hard alcohol lately (though vodka is my favorite liquor). I have really moved to wine and beer. However, as far as vodkas go, I have been partial to Finlandia and Grey Goose (the G squared?).

My only rule for vodka: if it comes in a plastic bottle, STAY AWAY! Other than that, bring it on!

  333. February 5, 2008

Congrats GV…400 on the 4th of Feb.
That had to be the best Super Bowl I’ve ever seen….Cheaters never win!

My son & I loved an NFC East Team brining the THUNDER to the Patriots; remember it was another NFC East team(EAGLES) that showed the Giants the way!!

Favorite Vodka: Charbay Meyer Lemon (Domestic; West Coast)

    Mark Neustadt

GV – Dude, you could have a show where you talk about fingernail clippers or ice cube trays. YOU ROCK!

When you’re talking about relaxing after a day of work, that’s me.

Spreading the thunder? I’ve really made a pest of myself telling everyone I know about it. Even people who don’t care for wine.

QOTD: I don’t really do the Vodka thing. Too harsh for me. I like Scotch.

  338. February 5, 2008

    Eric A.

Congrats on the big 4-Oh-OH! I’ve been steering clear of vodka lately, but I do make the odd martini at home now and again. I like Ketel One for that.

Keep up the great work! Can you do Tequila Library TV at episode 500? Or would you wake up in Tijuana if you tried that? :)

    Congrats again!

  339. February 5, 2008

Congrats on the BIG Four Double O!!

Tito’s Vodka – hard to find, very smooth, Great QPR. No doubt, THE best Vodka out there. Small and indepenent distiller.

  342. February 5, 2008

    Tom G. of the CKC

400! Amazing! I’m fairly sure most viewers can’t express what you do for us, either, Gary.

QOTD: Vodka, my other liquor passion. I believe Chopin makes the best sub-$50 vodka. Level comes in a close second. I am only talking about widely-available vodkas here.

If you love that harsh-but-smooth (paradoxical, no? It’s why I love vodka!) characteristic , you need to go for Russian vodkas like Stoli Gold or Stoli Elit. Imperia makes a decent Russian vodka, too.

  343. February 5, 2008

    The Lukas

    QOTD:

I rarely drink vodka straight these days.
But i did actually have some Bison Grass Vodka on the weekend.
My friend was adding it to his beer, which was actually quite nice, so i tried some straight.
Other than that, i’m too poor to buy anything but cheap vodka to get drunk with, it’s not something i tend to buy for taste, i have wine for that.

  344. February 5, 2008

    joel delon

Gary from now on you should spit the wine during all the 2008 episodes to come in the helmet of the champions the giants !
qotd : i don’t drink distillery products not compatible with the pleasure and the desire of wine

congrats, bro. good job on making it through your personal devastation from the Bowl of Supers. (Now *that’s* a contest I’d like to see–grizzled building supervisors around NYC going at it for big prize money! Or not…). QOTD: Not a big fan of wodka, but Ciroc (French) is interesting. Also, Vermont Gold, *maple* flavored vodka is kinda fun (sounds odd, but it works for some reason). Too old to do the hard stuff anymore, and yeah, too many wines to try! If I’m going to drown my sorrows, I’m going to do it with a Larkmead or a Black Bart Syrah. I’m just sayin’…

  348. February 5, 2008

Congrats on the 400th episode. Something different for viewers to appreciate and ponder.

Congradulations on reaching number 400, job well done! Thank you much for all you are doing for us out here in wine fan world. And big congrads to Mott on the Giants win.

QOTD: definitely not a fan of the Goose. I like Ketel One and like the basic Stoli. I like a little burn, with the smooth taste.

Spreading the Thunder. I have been and advocate of WLTV and have passed on to my family, friends and co-workers. I am part of dinner club group. We get togther every month or so. All are wine lovers and I have turned them all on to WLTV. Heck, I have even told my local wine merchants to look you up. Not sure if they like the competition as I have started buy direct from WL. Too bad for them. Competition is good for the consumer, right? Thanks G-man for all you and your team are doing.

  355. February 5, 2008

    Aaron Gonzales

Congrats on the big 4 double 0 GV! Tito’s is a great vodka out there especially for the the price. I’d pit it against most super premiums out there.
Although I have no video blog for you to see, I hold weekly wine tastings and send out mass emails to all my customers at the wine shop I run where I spread the love of the Thunder Show every week. I will LINK IT UP on my weekly emails so people can see the wonders of the show as well. I am also enrolled in the ISG levels 1 and 2 and plan on getting my fellow classmates involed as well. Can’t wait for another 400 more. Salud!

absolut, ketel 1, grey goose to make straight up Bunuelian martinis with a spritz of dry vermouth, a couple of drops of angostura or orange bitters and the vodka. And sometimes I go to the Associated and for the hell of it buy Acme herring in wine sauce in a jar and down some of that with warm shots of vodka. It’s not Russ and Daughters, but very satisfying nonetheless, especially on the occasional morning as an homage to my grandfather who used grain alcohol as aftershave and then would take a shot of it to brace himself against the day and the incessant pinching in his liver.

Gary, get drunk on your own time please. I did order some M&M though. Im searching hard to really find any pinots that I like. Even had some of the Breggo you recommended. That had to be about my favorite so far and I appreciated it but for the money there are still other things I’d rather drink I think.

Congratulations on reaching 400 Gary and you dont look a day over 150 :p.
Long may Wine Library TV continue, i really didn’t drink that much wine if any before a friend put me onto your show, non pompus, non bullshit wih a modern twist. I will definitely be spreading the Thunder about the show.

    SPREADING THE THUNDER
    1. I have emailed my friends who share the enjoyment of wine a link to the show and a short summary of my enthusiasm (addiction). Only about 20 people here, but they are all wine’os and a few serious ones.
    2. I created a small tabletop card using the wine library tv logo with website on the Feed page and have put it on our bar at our wine bar. We have a self serve “enomatic” self-serve system with 80 wines dispensed and more by the glass and bottle. Fairly good customer counts. We seem to draw the type of people who would enjoy this show so it is a natural. This is tied into our fine dining restaurant.

Go to our website and click on “Directory” and then “AMUSE” wine bar to get an idea of what we do.
    http://www.honoluludesigncenter.com/index_mn.htm

QOTD: Don’t drink Vodka much, but when I do we have a local one, “OCEAN” that is made on Maui. Haven’t tried it side by side so I am not sure how it compares. I do enjoy fine tequilas though and could easilly assist with a tequila tasting, and I have most in my home inventory (next to the two wine coolers).

Aloha and here’s to another 400

    Congratulations

” “flavored vodka” aka gin, so I guess my favorite brand there would be Junipero, made by Anchor Distilling out in San Fran. My favorite brand that anyone has heard of?”

yay 400 eps! can’t wait for the two year anniversary, whenever it is. :)

QOTD: I don’t drink that much vodka. I’m more of a bourbon person. Grey Goose is good but thats the standard. I’m a big fan of vanilla though so I’m gonna put my vote on Stoli Vanilla.

QOTD: Not a vodka drinker, prefer bourbon or single malted scotches, well, now I have to take that back, nothing beats a glass of Johnny Walker Blue, neat, with a glass of water on the side. But I digress, vodka is a question at hand, not scotch…so, it’s belvedere in vodkatini’s and whatever is least expensive in monkey boys.

    Congrats on 400 Gary!

Hey Gary, I just can’t belive you tried polish vodka! :) Thanks for that!

QOTD: Actually it’s Zubrowka (the Bison Grass Vodka you just tried). If I drink vodka, I choose this one, but you’re right, it’s just too sweet to drink it straight. Try mixing it with apple juice and ice and you will get one of the most popular cocktail drinks in Poland.
Besides I live in a city, where the original Bison Grass Vodka is being produced exported from. It’s only about 30 miles from the only place, where you can see the european bisons in wilderness.
That’s why I treat this episode very personal. Thanks again.

400…thats an enormous number GV, but I wouldn’t expect anything less of you. 400 more will fly by! Great change up for the day, the cuts definitely made the episode exciting, keep it going!

QOTD: Ketel 1 is very good for traditional vodka, but I have to agree with you, the O2 is very “non-vodkaish” but very smooth, yet still slightly harsh like vodka is supposed to be, but it is almost champagne-like.

I will never touch Grey Goose, period! I hope the Grey Goose people paid their marketing folks a TON of money, because it’s all hype. Sorry you had to watch your 2 most hated teams duke it out, but still, I am SOOOOO HAPPY the Patriots lost. Put a smile on my face!

YAY 400! HERES TO 400+ more!

I’m in a bit of a somber mood today too Gary, I lost $120 on a football pool Sunday – I wasn’t rooting for anyone… I need a 4 (both last numbers added) to win. I had it until the very end! But I’m glad the Pats lost.. so I know how ya feel.

QOTD: The word vodka is Russian for “little water”.
My signature cocktail is Diet Pepsi and vanilla vodka (Tastes like a vanilla coke). I love love love Absolut Vanilla. Yummy!
When I’m in a Cosmo or strait vodka martini mood, I like Kettle One.
Mostly, I’m in a wine mood lately.

    CindyW

QOTD: while I’m primarily a wine drinker, I do love a good vodka martini from time to time (with just a kiss of vermouth & double olives-stuffed-with jalapeno). I generally buy Belvedere, but I’m willing to try something else if anyone has a suggestion.

GaryV, I have to tell you my favorite vodka story. In the 1980s, when I was an undergrad in college, one of my best friends took me home to visit her family in Cody, Wyoming. We drove there to attend a family friend’s annual Russian Easter party. Other than the two of us, the youngest person was her mother – just about everyone else was in their 70s & 80s (and one man was 98!). Several were of Russian descent, and most had moved to what was then a rough and tumble wild west as young adults or teens. One man was the grandson (his father was adopted) of Buffalo Bill Cody. These people had incredible stories to tell, and they also shared some amazing vodka. Most of it was drunk frozen, which we had as shots in between the deviled eggs topped with caviar. The party took place in a home that overlooked a Victorian building that used to be a famous brothel. I’ll never forget the moment of silence, as these old men bowed their heads in respect. . . then we all tossed back shots, throwing some vodka over the bluff to sprinkle the ground in memory of the deceased madame. We gathered around the piano after that, singing old western songs and learning Russian toasts. It was just about as much fun as I’ve ever had.

Congratulations on taping episode #400. I’m looking forward to watching WLTV for at least 400 more!

QOTD: Always Stoli’s – plain, with the handle (1.5L) for my Bloody Mary’s. Few tips on a great bloody mary.

On top of having a great mix you love
    Always make it SPICY
Use COLD COLD – out of the freezed – vodka (hence why you need a handle to hold it)
    Little bit of pickle juice
    Also add a pickle
    Use BM RIm salt
    Add more celery salt
    Add your fav hot sauce

QOTD: I don’t really have a favorite vodka, I’m more of a gin and whiskey type person myself. But I would say the vodka I’ve had the most is smirnoff. Seriously, I drink whiskey more and I can kill a bottle of Crown Royal, my personal favorite, in about a month if I leave it around my apartment. And that sucks, because that is expensive whiskey, so most of the time I’ll just buy it at the bars and stuff.

  408. February 5, 2008

I loved the episode GV. I may not be a WLTV classic, but I think it fit the bill. I’ve been wondering whether you were a Vodka man given your heritage. I appreciate te diversity, and would love to see you drink some more spirits and beers. Don’t get me wrong, wine is where it’s at… but it’s always a nice change of pace for those of us who started our adult drink adventures elsewhere.

QOTD: I’m a Scotch and Bourbon guy, but I think Belvedere is a nice Vodka.

As I like unflavored spirits and most anything that has a bit of complexity to it, I cast my vote for XO Vodka by Jean-Marc. Had it last year, just simply an elegant vodka with a long tasty finish.

Gary I’m your typical wine bully, I found you while surfing for wine on the net and have been hooked since you were in the double digits. Once I found you I started preaching the GV sermons to my friends, they started watching and also have become hooked. I had a bunch over for the christmas suprise pack, played Conan and Ellen, Conan was classic! and drank Bordeaux. We are supporters for life. If I could afford a billboard I would, maybe someday.

btw, I forgot to add my comment on the vodka tasting segment ~

I liked it a lot, and I think it was a cool supplement to the regular wine tasting. You should maybe do a monthly or biweekly liquor taste; maybe next time sample some different bourbons or gin brands.

QOTD: Vodka, really?… I had some really good honey vodka at a Russian restaurant here in Baltimore called Red Square. It’s a blast if you are ever down this way. Instead of bottles of wine on the table every table has liters of vodka, wild.

I don’t really drink vodka that much, my favorite would be Smirnoff. I think that people are deluding themselves when purchasing Grey Goose or other “premium” vodkas. Isn’t the point to be crisp & flavorless? I would much prefer to drink a Rye or Whisky or even Gin.

Congratulations Giants, but did those guys say WORLD Champions? Sorry, but as much as I like the Giants winning, playing a couple of NFL games outside of the U.S. in regular season does not give any global credibility to the NFL or the Superbowl. Same goes for the “World Series” – it’s only a global championship if you let teams from other countries compete. The Giants are National Champions, end of (and well deserved to).

Gary … Congratulations from afar on the FIRST 400 episodes- looking forward to 400 more

Mott .. Well done those Giants …!!!

One thing I have to say .. NFL American Football only played in America … and they are “World Champions” – that creases me up every time I hear it :-)

Great shows and a great style – keep up the good work.

I know this show is old hat now, but I just now watched it and loved it. I just can’t always watch them right away, though I’d like to.

I loved that you tasted the vodka, even though I’ve hardly ever tasted vodka myself. I love that you tasted a wine that I probably will like, if I can find it. I love that you have the contest, even though I probably won’t join it. Still, in my own way, I do spread the thunder. I started a wine tasting group in my neighborhood, and, of course, I tell them all (50 or so people) about Gary Vanerchuck, and winelibrarytv.com. I don’t have a blog and I don’t get into all the internet linking, but, good for you Gary, you go!

I had a friend go to Russia for Winter Break last year, and he brought back several bottles of great vodka. I don’t know the name of it, but one of the best went down easy with the perfect amount of bite. That made for a fun Friday night.

    Let’s go for 800 more!!
Happy 400th- thanks for bringing the thunder and wine knowledge

    QOTD- Not a vodka drinker.

    CHATrBox

Congratulations on the big 400 GVNC! That’s a little ironic that you normally don’t drink wine on your show but for the 400th you swig back some vodka?!?! You must have had a party to go to after.

    Favorite Vodka…I’m a goose guy.

  468. February 7, 2008

It all about the Chopin Vodka. I love that stuff.

Not a big vodka drinker, but my current favorite is Tito’s. Austin rules. Wait, I mean Austin sucks, stay in California and don’t move here.

Congrats on 400, I watch this every night while eating supper and drinking a glass or two of wine.

    Dave.

    Jim

QOTD, ok got me on this one, My Fave is Imperia (made by Russian Std), but I usually drink Russian Std, cause it is cheaper, and sometime last year or so, became available in the US!! WOOHOO!! Mom usually brings a few liters a year when she visits from St Pete. Some other really good ones are Veda (blackberry flavor, very good, but I prefer em clean), and Ladoga (another great St Pete Vodka, a bit pricier than Russian Std, but just as good). I also have some in a Fabergé bottle that I cannot recall the name of, but was not too impressed by it. So there ya go, thanks for the show! Jim

After trying so many vodkas, I always come back to Absolute. So many people swear by Grey Goose, but I prefer my vodkas to have some flavor. Can’t wait to try the Dill Vodka. My Ukrainian heritage screams for it. We could put it in some Borscht, eh?

have you ever tried the mischief and mayhem white burgundy? I thought it to be catering to the new world palate very much. way too much oak, loaded with butter. Apart from that, very nice juice…the marketing also suggests this to be a departure from the old world style. I wonder if the red burgundy is really reminiscent of the old world style, or if it caters to new world, california-style palates like their chardonnay.

Divine Vodka from Round Barn Winery in Baroda Michigan. It’s made from Grapes which makes it ultra smooth!!!!

Qotd: An old standby is always Chopin but the fav that always brings the thunder…. JEWEL OF RUSSIA!! You need to find this bottle, it ALWAYS delivers!

And Gary, congrats on 400, you are a Jewel of Russia!

I’ve actually had the Bison Grass, and enjoyed it quite a bit. My favorite, however, is Ciroc. It’s distilled from French grapes, and is delicious. Does that make it technically a grappa?

I agree about Grey Goose. I don’t understand the hype.

  480. February 9, 2008

You are hysterical, I guess those shots got you a little buzzed :-) You do have to admit you are happier that the Giants won than if the Patriots would have. GO BIG BLUE!!!! QOTD Bellvadere

Congratulations, GV! You surpassed the 400 milestone and are still going strong. Great epi.

QOTD: Had some black russians last week with the GreyGoose and I’d have to say that I was a very satisfied customer. For shots I prefer TEQUILA or Mango Rum in a more domestic setting.

  482. February 9, 2008

    Big Nick

Congrats Gary……made it to 400 and here’s to 400 more (hopefully). I can honestly say that I am not a Vodka guy. Too many bad nights with vodka and hangovers during college to enjoy it much any more. Keep up thee work and I will be watching.

Great show GV! I just realized I went a whole week without watching an episode and I feel like a fool. Nice burgundy rec. QOTD: Chopin

QOTD: Aristicrat! LOL I’m kidding. I don’t really have a favorite vodka. I’ve always been a beer guy..and now a wine and beer guy.

Congrats on 400, Gary! I’m really glad you’re sticking around.

Congrats to Mott and the other Giants fans, don’t forget to thank the Packer nation for giving you such a sweet, sweet victory last Sunday!

GV – I gotta tell you that the NYG winning the Super Bowl is a major downer for me. I grew up with Gints (purposely spelled that way) fans and they were completely obnoxious!

Best Thing About the SB – Eli Manning coming of age.
Worst Thing About the SB besides Gints V – Tom Brady’s awesome season rained on.

I have never been a Vodka fan. The only thing that I can tell you is that I audited (I am a CPA) the Heublein company in Hartford, CT where they distilled and bottled Smirnoff vodka. I made them break open one of the stainless steel tanks used in distillation to see if it was full. It was full – the smell almost knocked me over. Filled with charcoal, the purifying and distilling ingredient!

    Peace

    ChezJosh

    Congrats on the 400.

My favorite Vodka is the one that’s flavored with a variety of herbs and spices including, most predominantly, juniper. My favorite gin would probably have to be Citronelle, but Hendricks is pretty fine too.

    QotD: Favorite vodka is Tino’s.

    Hey Gary

Congratulations on the 400th show, they have all been great.

QOTD: Though I don’t drink much vodka, my favourite would interestingly be the Biason, but only because of sentimental reasons. I use to work with a Polish bloke in an English hotel whose mother sent him a bottle through the mail each week; good times!

Let the Giants fans enjoy this for now, but next season and for the next 20 years they will go back to being well….the Giants and have their typical 9-7 season, just miss the playoffs and get just enough wins to not get a high draft pick, so enjoy the next 20 years of mediocre football while the Pats are today favored to go back to the superbowl next season and have a 14-2 to 13-3 season.

Now before you talk about the Pats cheating, let’s talk about “Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Chuck Knoblauch, Gary Sheffield, Jason Giambi, Daryl Strawberry, Dwight Goodin and the murderer Jim Leyritz”. Some people take sports like it’s life and death and make a bigger deal about Bill Bellichick than they do about more important things like Jim Leyritz killing an innocent woman with his car or George Steinbrenner being a convicted fellon and gangster.

Hey, what happened to my comment I posted when I was in Israel watching this show? I gave some grief to those Giants fans claiming they were “World Champions” – how could that be since only American teams played (and that game in London does not make you Golbal).

Never mind, QOTD – hardly drink the stuff now, but historically it was Stolichnaya, although the homemade lemon Vodka they do at Schmulik Cohens in Tel Aviv is pretty good.

I’m a 19 college kid who has never drank non-communion related wine in my life, but have been watching the new vlogs and some archived ones for about a month. In a writing class, I was told to come up with a visual metaphor for an aspect of my life. I chose to use you or more specifically the log to show what I want to do with myself. I’m a polisci major who gets everything very well, but cannot deal with the snobby elitist type kids. I want to bring the complicated stuff to masses because I knew a lot of people that could get excited about the topics if presented to them in a more user-friendly way. So, at least all the kids in my class that were there for the presentation that got the thunder brought to them

Congrats on 400! You are doing a great job and keep getting better every episode. I really appreciate you doing the video blogs and taking the time out of your day to do these.
