QOTD: GV – I’m always trying new wines… I remember watching a wine video in Oz years ago when the presenter was asked ‘what is your favourite wine?’ The answer… ‘The next one’. So true :-)

what i’d like to suggest: gary takes a bathtub, fills it with petit verdot grapes and also a mixture of various jams and jellies, then adds a hot model and jumps in while slathering the buttocks with excellent sexuality while reciting poems and laughing?

QOTD 1: Of course! My palate’s getting trained, it’s my nose that I wonder about sometimes.

QOTD 2: I’m really not sure. I know I don’t have anything in the house right now from NY.

QOTD: 2006 Standing Stone Riesling – my notes: Pale yellowish color. Floral bouquet with some apple and pear. Light body with pear, apricot and mineral notes. Medium-light acidity with a crisp finish. 86 pts

QotD #1: Always up for trying new things so yes.

QotD #2: Last NY wine I had was a sweet wine, Warwick Valley Harvest Moon.

QOTD: Yes, I have expanded my palate; I’ve been drinking cheaper wine than usual and I liked it.

QOTD: Living on Long Island, tough not to have tried some. I would recommend the Borghese Cab Franc, good effort for the price. Took a trip through the finger lakes to try the Rieslings and either established that I don’t like Riesling or I don’t like NY Riesling. Far too many sweet wines for my liking but did enjoy Standing Stone.

Gary, you always make the Gewurztraminer sound so good!!

QOTD 1: Had some of the Duboeuf Beaujolais Nouveau 2007. I found it better than the KJ Pinot but bland compared to a Chateau Lascombe that I had a few weeks ago. Had my first Sauterne. Stunning! Drank the whole 750 in about three days!

QOTD 2: New York wines? Don’t recall any. Unless you count New York “Champagne”. LOL!

  29. February 15, 2008

    John P

QOTD: I actually had this Reisling a few months ago and I gave it an 89.
The finger lake wines are actually good and this Reisling was better
    than I expected.

Gary…too many Rieslings out there between the ones from Alsace, Australia, California and New York. So far the ones I have enjoyed most come from Alsace. It would be intersting to compare them side by side. QOTD#1- Wines from SW France…really good and all under $25! QOTD#2- Went to a wine shop in Greenwich Village over the holiday that only poured NY wines, tasted through many and unfortunatley enjoyed none.

  34. February 15, 2008

    Chaz

Last NY wine was a 2003 Cab Sauv from La Comtesse Therese, Long Island. At 25 bones (would that be b25 / 25b?) it’s a bit expensive, but the winemaker’s father is one of my philosophy professors in college, so I snagged it for free.

  35. February 15, 2008

    Adam J

QOTD #1-Yea, I Had a Les Baux De Provence Rose..awesome.
Qotd#2- I live in the hudson valley and drink NY wine quite a lot. Last tried the Atwater Gewurz…my pal did not agree:( I am looking forward to trying the Herman W. Gewurz! I love the show more everyday!

QOTD: Yes, I have had wines from the Finger Lakes Region of NY. I had and enjyed white wines from Herman J Weimer, Dr. Konstantian (sp) Frank, and Wagner Vinyards. Do not recommend trying anything from Bully Hill. Scary.

Totally been expanding my pal lately. Just got a shipment yesterday that included what will be my first Primitivo, Corvina & Anglianico. God bless the Italians!

  41. February 15, 2008

    Dr T from N. Carolina

Yeah! The first wine region I visited extensively (if decades ago). But no Catawba Pink? I don’t know if I’ve had any Finger Lakes wine since grad school, 20+ years ago

QOTD — I intend to get to the century varietal mark this year — was at 85 three weeks ago. Up to 90, 10 more to try, so that’s expansion!

Hey Gary – you must be reading my palate. I just finished two wines from Long Island. One was Potato Barn Rose which was not too good. The other was the Paumanok Vineyard 2001 Riesling. The Paumanok was really great. I think you’d like it too, as it had a nice funkiness to it.

  43. February 15, 2008

    Phil G

QODD1 – Trying new stuff on a regular basis. Actually been getting more into Spain recently.
QOTD2 – Went to college in the Finger Lake region, so I have been to many of the wineries up there. Most recent I can remember was a Dr. Konstantin Frank Riesling that was not too bad.

  44. February 15, 2008

    cameron w

Always trying something new, but that hasn’t extended to NY wines yet.

  45. February 15, 2008

    ChrisR

Yay for Finger Lakes wines!!! And a big shoutout to Ithaca!
    QOTD1: Yes. Hell Yes.
QOTD2: Having a bottle of Duckhorn tonight. Maybe some Thirsty Owl. My last one was a Sheldrake Cab Franc.

  46. February 15, 2008

    Patrick

I try new things all the time, and I suppose the next will have to be an NY wine. ;)

    Great Show!!!

QOTD1: Always expanding my Pal. Dont plan to stop anytime soon

QOTD2: Never had a New York State wine before. They are harder to seek out in Texas and also I never really thought to try wine.

QOTD: Yes, I have been trying all new wines…almost none of the wines I have drunk in the past 6 months have been known brands, varietals, or regions that I knew of bfore watchng this show!

    mbannon

Oh no, you’ve caught me! I’ve NEVER had a New York wine. Sad. Will have to fix that.

Hey, what’s up with all the wine you dump?? Jerk. ;)

  52. February 15, 2008

    Sharon

QOTD1: Almost about every bottle I try is a first of its kind for me.
QOTD2: I think I may have tried a NY wine 2 years ago while having a vacation in the Adirondacks, but wasn’t ‘wine aware’ enough at the time to register the producer/type in my memory banks. Shall certainly seek out that Gewurtz!

  53. February 15, 2008

    John Farrin

QOTD: If I’ve had any New York state wines it was probably over 30 yrs. ago and I honestly don’t remember.

  54. February 15, 2008

    Shadowbird

QOTD1: I usually drink a different wine each time. Maybe a same producer but a different varietal.

QOTD2: …I don’t think I’ve had any from New York.

  55. February 15, 2008

    sharon

No..a New York wine is not something I generally look for. I’m still thinking about that poor deer, you brought up yesterday, covered in berries….Kind of violent for a wine tasting program.

  56. February 15, 2008

    Johnny C. a.k.a SmokinActuary

I am always expanding my palette.

The last NY State wine I had was a Tokay-Fruliano from the Maybrook Winery.

QOTD: Of course! I’m always trying new wines, tonight we’re going with a Langhe

QOTD2: On Wednesday I had two NYstate wines. I had the 2006 Herman Weimer Riesling, and felt pretty much the same way that you did about it, I went around 88pts if we’re keeping track. I also had a 2003 Palmer Cab Franc Reserve which I wasn’t super impressed with.

    happy fri-day GV!

    good on ya

  69. February 15, 2008

    Karl Laczko

A nice couple of whites there, I’d happily drink either.

QOTD – The Wölffer 1998 Cabernet Franc, drank last October. Rated it 89 but I think it was past it’s peak, could have been into the 90s a couple of years ago. That was the one and only, difficult to source NY wines over here (I picked up the Wölffer on a trip to D.C.)

  70. February 15, 2008

    bigmay

Q(s)OTD: Yes, recently I’ve tried my first Albarino, Torrontes, and Bonarda. It’s all for you GV. Have not, however, ever had a NY wine.

  71. February 15, 2008

    Snarf

QOTD: 2002 Paumanok Asseblage LI, Bordeaux style blend. It was kick-ass great; served it blind and NOBODY pegged it as being from LI.

  72. February 15, 2008

    Lawrence Leichtman

I had some Riesling from Finger Lakes and can’t remember the producer but I didn’t like it. My palate is already pretty well developed from tasting so many wines and other things over the years. I don’t have the palate of GV because so many of these things from the 80’s he describes are things maybe my kids would have eaten and I wouldn’t eat much of anything they were eating. When GV described a dear, I have to wonder if he has ever dealt with fresh killed dear. The odor is a combination of iron and crap. Not really what I want in a wine.

  73. February 15, 2008

QOTD: Never had one in my entire natural life! But, I’d like to someday.

  74. February 15, 2008

I’m always trying something new or looking for that exceptional bottle of wine. As far as NY wines, not impressed…it may be because the wine I had wasn’t any good or just ok to good…I give it a pass for now. Good episode…not only do we get wine-tasting with scores but fashion week! or fashion statement……….

  75. February 15, 2008

I have not had any bro, but I will try and find some. It is hard to find it around my house.

QOTD1: always trying to expand the palate (a Menetou-Salon tonight)
QOTD2: Never had a NY wine

  79. February 15, 2008

    Remps108

I drink a LOT of wines from the Finger Lakes region, mainly because my wine-o parents go up there twice a year and come back with more cases than they know what to do with. And as I am a big fan of Gewurzes, I totally agree with your assessment of Weimer’s. As odd as it sounds, though, I don’t know if I’ve ever tried his Dry Riesling, since that seems to be the main wine coming out of that region.

QOTD: I’m pretty sure the last NY state wine I had was the 2006 Fulkerson Traminette (fantastic w/ Chinese food). I’ve also very recently had the 2005 Shalestone Harmony, a really nice 50/50 blend of Merlot and Cab Franc. My parents and I both agree that Shalestone makes the best reds of any Finger Lakes winery.

I am going out to get a bottle of Dr. Frank’s Riesling just as soon as the boyfriend gets home from the Army tonight (on location in Fort Carson this weekend)

QOTD: I am always trying new wines.
QOTD 2: Last NYS wine I’ve had was a Dr. Frank Dry Riesling, don’t remember which vintage off the top of my head.

  84. February 15, 2008

    Sue Z.

Thanks for the NY Finger Lakes experience GV!!! I’ve been going up there for about 5 or 6 years now and the rieslings, gewertz, and ice wines kick some serious ass!! I can’t wait to try the ‘07 wines this fall.
QOD – Torrontes, Alberino, and I just picked up some white Cote de Rhone……..keep it rollin bro;-)

  85. February 15, 2008

    Thanks to our Vets!

QOTD 1: I’ve only been serious about wine drinking for about 2 months. The entire world is new to me, baby!

QOTD 2: New York? That’s like, north of Pennsylvania, right?

  86. February 15, 2008

    Barb

I ADORE HERMANN, and Fred & the Finger Lakes! I love them so much I HAD to work at Wiemer’s place for a harvest season; literally heaven on earth. His Gewurztraminer was my instant favorite. The 2002 Cab Franc was magnificent and most recently I had to crack open the 1999 Cuvee Brut; simply classic and classy! Gotta love his ice wine too…
I work with wines in Arkansas now we must get some NY State wines down here!
Great choices Gary; you made my day!

  87. February 15, 2008

    BobbyTiger

Lot’s of different Malbecs and Torrentes’ from Argentina. Also some Italian. As far as New York wines…….not much. Tried a couple of sparkling wines a few years back, and really wasn’t impressed. That surprised me, as I am easily impressed.

  88. February 15, 2008

    Robin C

QOTD: I’m waiting for free shipping to order a New York wine or two from you.
Everyone liked the Breggo pinot last night, but not so much the Termes tempranillo. It was probably a little young.
I kind of like the assymetrical shirttail look – just don’t make it look too studied.

  89. February 15, 2008

    Joe F

This week,I had two wines from Pellegrini Vineyards – a 2002 Encore Red Wine(blend of, I believe Cabernet, Merlot and some Cab Franc) and a bottle of Finale the desert wine.
I also had an Ice Wine from the Swedish Hill Winery up in the Finger Lakes that was unbelievable! It was a ten year old vintage that had smelled of roses, peaches, pineapples, honey and a hint of gasoline fumes. And all of this was on the palate. It was thick and luscious and I am glad my wife forgot I had this one bottle left or it never would have seen its tenth birthday ( it would have been lucky to make it to three!)

  90. February 15, 2008

    Chris

QOTD- Never had one. Never even seen one when I’ve been looking at Rieslings etc.

  91. February 15, 2008

Great Friday show, I like the 1/2 tuck, love the Gewurz. and NY State wines!

    Gar

Had a fantastic Torrontes the other day – at room temperature, amazing! and nowhere near as good cold. Obviously the St-Nicholas de Bourgeil planned for the weekend and A really unexpected, sumptuously magnificant Spanish Sardon De Duero 2004 – ALL wines I would not normally have gone for previously.

  93. February 15, 2008

    Dominus

I need to find a nice Gahverts this weekend. Good show. And yes, you get 15 emails but I hear 15 mins of “why does he waste that wine”? So maybe pre-rinse and have a separate glass for each?

Pre QOTD: I’m trying to expand my PAL so much I keep track so I can become a member of the Centurion Club. Let’s try some off-the-wall (good album) varietals so I can add to my list? :)

Post QOTD: Nope, no NY wines for me though I must say they are hard to find at most wine shops. There was a great show on “fine living” by Andrea Zimmer showcasing that region.

    TGIF

    Cheers!

  98. February 15, 2008

    Harley Stan

    Happy Friday!!!
QOTD 1- yes, I have been trying new things pretty much since I joined the Vaynernation
QOTD 2- I don’t believe I have tried anything from NY state, I will add it to my list of wines to try.

QOTD2: Lamoreaux Landing red blend. It was not good. No, not good. However I have some Hermann Weimer Riesling in the cave, aging out for a rainy day. 06’s are way too young from the Hermann-miester.

I am ashamed to say it…but the only wine I can remember having from NY was some Lake Niagara. It may have even come out of a box.

    QOTD #1: every day.
QOTD #2: can’t think of any I’ve ever had. if I ever saw one on a list in CA, I’d try for sure. will have to seek something out – maybe this Gewurtz.

QOTD 1: Yes I have been trying new things and expanding my palette (my pal) since becoming part of the vayner nation.
QOTD 2: No, I have never had a NY State Wines, but I plan on trying some.

QOTD: I’m really enjoying trying different varietals. You’ve given me the confidence (and some knowledge) to do so.

QOTD 2: At winter break, as a Christmas present, my wonderful CKC son who goes to school in Ithaca brought home the Riesling you weren’t so keen on today. Not meh to me…Mmmm.

just had the 2 wines side-by-side. have the riesling FIRST and it will blow you away. The gewurzt. is a touch sweeter and has a bit more acidity.

QOTD: I think it was something on a wine tour at Bully Hill. The wine was horrible, but the entertainment at the tour was terrific. OK, sorry, I was a beer drinker back then, and my PAL wasn’t trained to try new things. GV has changed my life!

  109. February 15, 2008

    Kristen

Thanks for taping all those eps for the Vaynernation GV. We appreciate it!

QOTD1: Of course, I get bored if I don’t. I’m currently having a 2005 Las Moras Bonarda (not my favorite, but surely drinkable) and I have a vinho verde waiting to be cracked open soon.

QOTD2: Nope, although my parents have and they liked it. But have you had any Wisconsin wine? :)

  110. February 15, 2008

    ChezJosh

Q1: Of course I am, Gary. Just the other day, I had a bulgarian wine that was quite delicious. It was a Mavrud, a simple table wine, and it was quite delicious.

Q2: I attended culinary school in the mid-hudson valley area, so I got to experience a number of those wines, most recently from Clinton Vineyards and Millbrook Winery. The Clinton were decent and the millbrook sweeter wines weren’t bad, but they all seem to exhibit what I’ll call the Hudson Valley terroir. Use your imagination.

I feel like I’ve been doing alright at drinking different things, I haven’t really gotten into the rhythm of buying different things locally yet. I like to do more research if it’s something I’ve never heard of.

I can’t remember the last time NY wine. I think I’ve had a Dr. Frank at some point though. That Gewurtz sounds good though.

I watched the Bourgueil episode, you were so chill back then =).

QoTD 2: I’ve *never* had NY wine, which is particularly embarrassing given that I lived in NY stater for 4 years :~x

Many, many moons ago, holidaying from Ottawa to a State Parkin the Finger Lakes region. (Just how long ago – well, I took my son in to Ithaca to see the premiere of Star Wars…). Anyway, we tried several NY wines, can’t remember any wineries except Dr. Frank previously mentioned rings a bell. May have been our first encounter with a Gewurz, and it was a revelation of sorts, not necessarily in positive way.

QOTD: Yes, the move West of the Rockies has made us much more receptive to trying different experiences, including wines.

QOTD – We had a Jamesport wine a decade ago, and that was not its best. However, I have heard that LI wines including Jamesport are getting better. Perhaps it is time to try again.

Last NY wine I had was Shinn Estate Red, 75 Merlot, 25 Cab, from Long Island. I think its a nice red table wine at a fair price, and their vineyard uses sustainable farming methods.

I also like Lenz a lot for white, also Long Island

  123. February 15, 2008

Never tried a NY sate wine…they’re rarely available in Canada. Yes, I’ve been trying hard to expand may palate. Recently I tried wines made from unconventional grape varieties such as: Nebbiolo, Tannat, Albarino, Cab Franc, petite syrah, Verdejo, Vidal, etc…Cheers

I have had a red and white from Finger Lakes in 2006 but can’t remember the winery. Neither one tripped my trigger though and I was so pumped up for them. I was on a business trip from San Diego to Virgina Beach and sought out a wine shop with the sole purpose of trying Finger Lake wine. I was so disappointed. They only had like 6 wines from that region and I swear most of the store was all Cali. I traveled 3000 miles to buy the same wines I have in my backyard. Have never seem one here in SoCal.

  125. February 15, 2008

1st post – the finger lakes was the motivation being a cornell alum – love wine tasting there although i wasn’t into in college – now that i live in sonoma county, i’m all about it. really liked cali wines, then took a wine class and it greatly expanded my horizons across the pond. drinking some of that leocadie minervois – love it, loose tobacco – right on – i’m right with the whole southeast france wines, the bomb for under twenty bones :) nice work gary, and thanks – it’s great to have such elaborate discussion and honesty on these wines, makes choosing them easier.

  127. February 15, 2008

    BGreen

I’ve been trying all kinds of wines, its been great most of the time, with only a couple disasters (mainly because I went with the more inexpensive of the choices)but I’ve enjoyed some great argentinas, spanish, and my new fave court de rhones. I’m very limited on my choices in Oklahoma, plenty of Cali to go around, very lacking in european wines. Absolutely never a NY wine.

  128. February 15, 2008

    David K

Last NY wine I drank was a 1994 Weimer Dry Riesling that we had at Thanksgiving. I picked it up at the winery ages ago and must say that it is BY FAR the coolest winery to visit on Seneca Lake. Stay at the Geneva in which is just down the road from the winery. Anyway, if you think these wines are good, try some of thier desert wines. Kind of pricy at $40+/500ml but simply amazing stuff. They could rival some of the finest German wines.

    Gary,

I’m glad that you are trying some NY State wines. I have long felt that Long Island and the Finger Lakes (with a little bit of Hudson Valley) should be our East Coast Napa — a place that you can visit on a weekend and taste some wonderful wines. From the Finger Lakes region, besides Weimer, you should also try Vinifera Wine Cellars (originated by Konstantin Frank) wines, especially their Rkatsiteli (now there is a rare (in the USA) grape variety for you). Fox Run (although lately I’ve been a bit disappointed with them), Wagner, Red Newt Cellars have all had good offerings in the past. A special shout-out to Shalestone Vineyards (”Red is all we do.”). In a predominately white wine region, Rob Thomas has consistently made some excellent reds – Cabs, Merlot and blends thereof. Glenora is a prolific producer of “pretty good” to “excellent” wines. Lameroux Landing is another good producer. Well, I could go on and on about the Finger Lakes. Don’t get me started on North Fork, Long Island. — I’ll wait until you do a show on those wineries before I list my favorites there.

There are even some pretty good wineries in New Jersey. I will list my favorites there sometime.

    Gary,

To your question: lately I’ve been trying new wines as often as I can. Two weeks ago I had Cab Franc for the first time, and it blew my frickin’ mind, man. That’s the truth. Cheers to you.

Both QOTD: I’ve been trying new stuff pretty much every time I visit the wine shop. It’s be totally awesome. The wine expo last weekend also was a huge eye opener, especially with the NY state wines. I hadn’t had many, but the ones I tried(Riesling and Gewurztraminer) knocked my socks off.

QOTD1: Always trying new things! Numerous Torrontes, Malbec, Bonarda, a Tempranillo blend from Australia, table wine from Portugal, etc.

QOTD2: In all honesty, the last New York State wine I had was Long Island’s Corey Creek Vineyards Raspberry Dessert Wine. Not even sure if it is made from local fruit or not, but my girlfriend loves it. We had in with dessert on Valentine’s Day. But last week I tasted four wines from Paumanok, also from Long Island; Chardonnay, Festival Red (Cab Franc/merlot Blend), Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Cool show, I am going to try to find a bottle of that Wiemer Gewurz!

  138. February 16, 2008

Ironically I had a 2006 Dry reisling Dr. Kontantin Frank with Japanese food (hibachi) today and am finishing it off while watching tv as I watched the episode for Friday.

  139. February 16, 2008

    nougat

Cool – we were up in the Finger Lakes in August. Visited Wiemer & picked up the 06 dry & semi dry rieslings. I recently had a Pellegrini Merlot (Long Island) and a Lakewood Cab Franc (Finger Lakes).
Still on NY wines – The Roman Roth wine you tasted the other day was a disappointment- I met him when he was at Sag Pond maybe 12 years ago and I thought he really had a chance to make something special happen. So far he’s been a little hit & miss. Anyway, the friggin guy is having fun.

Expand the Palate Crusade (EPC) continues!!
Mos def I’ve been expanding the palate. And that doesn’t mean just wine (might want to mention this to the other vayniacs!). I’ve been trying different bourbons, sake, soju, fruits (had Dorian for the first time the other week), vegetables (ever had a purple sweet potato?), and all sorts of other ingestibles. Of course different wines for different days and cuz everyday is different we rock with myriad wines in my hizzy. Been trying wines from Tunisia and Greece lately.

  143. February 16, 2008

    Nickyb85

My goodness Gary, nice brief Friday show. Always a pleasure watching the thunder show.
QOTD1: Today I had a lovely afternoon away from the school and visited the three wineries in the Lubbock, Tx area. I tasted about 18 wines today, ranging from local grapes all the way to Italian imports. I never knew about the diversity of wines in my own area. I spent some time with a Merlot that was very exceptional from the Caprock winery. And purchased around 12 wines that were reasonable on a CKC budget.
    With that said…
QOTD2: I have never had a NY wine.. though on my next trip to the shop I will keep my eyes open for one.

  144. February 16, 2008

    Andrew H.

I have been expanding my PAL tremendously. I have been trying to have a different wine varietal every week. Unfortunately I have not had an opportunity to try a New York state wine. Plan to seek one out.

QOTD-1 Yes I have tried some new wines.
QOTD-2 My Favorite… Gewerz and Riesling from Glenora Vineyards, Finger Lakes Region, Dundee, NY.
I make a trip to the finger Lakes every year and visit and taste a few different wineries, but alway’s come back with a couple from Glenora.
Gewerz and Riesling being my all time favorite wines, the rinsing really hurt with this show,LOL.
I will seek out Herman Weimer on my next visit, unless I find it before then.
Great show, could have watched an hour on different Finger Lakes Wines.

Dude you got it right on with the gewurtztraminer!!!! It is FAB!!!!! I would tell everyone they need to run up to Herman’s and get it now or of course go to your place and get it :)

I must say though you got it wrong with the Riesling….it is also FAB!!! as well….I love the wine from that region and Herman has got it down… People if you are not going up and buying that wine you will miss out on a jewl!!!!!!!! So get off you butt’s and go get it!!!!!!

Way to crank out these shows, Gary and Mott! Maybe next time you have to do a series like this, you could change shirts between episodes to make it seem like days are passing. ;-)

QOTD: I recently had Pindar winery’s Pythagoras (from Long Island), a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot & Malbec. Yummy. I can’t recall having any other wines recently from NY State… I’ll have to search some out.

  160. February 16, 2008

QOTD1. Always trying. I went to two wine tastings this week. One was given by an importer/distributor friend of mine and featured the wines of a producer from Oltrepo Pavese in Lombardia, Italy. The lineup included a white (!) Pinot Noir, and a wine made from a grape called Uva Rara. The other wine tasting this week was given by my local wine store and featured Alsatian whites and Spanish reds (mostly Rioja’s but also a wine from Alicante).

QOTD2. Probably my last New York wine was Lieb Cellars. I especially like their non-reserve Chardonnay. Their reserve Chardonnay has a bit more oak than I like.

  162. February 16, 2008

    Jim in Atlanta

QOTD – I try to attend two wine tastings a week. It is fun to try wines from around the world. In the past two years I have had wines from India, Morocco, Israel, Bulgaria, Lebanon, and the Czech Republic. Who knew they all made decent wines. I had a NY riesling last year and it was OK. It may be time to try another NY wine. Thanks for showing us the world of wine.

  164. February 16, 2008

    Donna Marie

QOTD1: Always trying new things–thinking about trying Stones ginger wine from the UK. Am going back to varietals that I haven’t really enjoyed in the past and giving them another whirl.

QOTD2: Coincidentally, the Herman Weimer Semi-Dry Riesling to represent NY at our SuperBowl Party–paired well with the Citrus-Wings and Spicy Ribs. One of my favorite Finger-Lake producers. Also love a Reserve Riesling from Red Newt Cellars-can’t recall if that’s Finger Lakes or Hudson Valley region. You should try to bring in some of that, though it was 20 bones about 3-5 years ago. Well worth it to me. Yummmm…..

    Courtney M

QOTD#1: I’m always trying new things. Looking for new things to try is part of the fun.

QOTD#2: Last New York wine I had was Bully Hill marechal foch. I live a few hours away from the Finger Lakes region and have been thinking of going down there sometime to see some vineyards when my Dad goes down for indie car races.

Well….I don’t know how many wine reps. in my area (southern CA) carry Non-CA dometic wines. It’s a shame, but I haven’t seen any around to buy, so…no…I’ve never had a wine from the finger lakes.

Expanding my wine taste? Yes. I don’t particularly like “Ports”, but I have found one produced here in Idaho – yes, I know, Ida-Who? – by Vin du Bois winery. It is an awesome “port”. Maybe I’ll send you some so you can add Idaho to your Washington and Oregon scope.

What up GV. I have been taking your advice and have not purchased the same bottle of wine for the last 6 months, hence continuingly trying new wines. I recently broke away from my fear of white wines, and am finding that they are just as good as reds.

QOTD: Have not tried any NY wines that I can recall. :(

Keep up the GREAT work. Love winelibrarytv!

…during the holidays we(t.j.’s)had a late harvest Jackson-Triggs from this region. Lots of olive and olive oiliness to it. It was a trip. I did not think that people would get it, but they got it ALL!!…oh yeah and the 2005 Rocher Calon pretty darn good, and ten bones in Cali.

QOTD- Last NYS wine I had was this nasty one that just tasted like bad strawberry twizzlers with extra sugar. I wish I remembered what it was because it was nasty.

Rieslings are probably my favorite new wine since watching WLTV. Looking forward to trying a Guwurtz.

What’s with the white wines with spicy Asian food all the time? Just drink a cold beer. Procrustes couldn’t make that wine-spicy food combo work.

“Raffi” said a New York wine tasted like “strawberry twizzlers”. I can’t have those anymore since I saw the movie Duce Bigelow.

QotD: Expanding wine horizons? Ha. It’s Lent. I’m Catholic. No wine for last 10 days. I get to prove how much I love God by making myself miserable. Go figure.

Props to the finger lakes. Last Finger lake wine that I have had is Dr. Frank’s Gewurtz. One of my fav’s. Crisp and clean. As for new tastes, just tasted a Pinot Blac form Oregon. Interesting. Not at all what I would have expected but definitly something that I would try again.

QOTD: Oddly enough, it was a Wiemer Dry Riesling Reserve, excellent. I have preached to all that will listen. Go to the Finger Lakes, you will be very impressed how they have really upgraded their winery tasting rooms.

QOTD: riesling from Standing Stone a week or so ago. I grew up in the Finger Lakes and my parents still live there. So whenever we’re back in the old country, we stop at several Finger Lakes wineries. A couple of years ago, we started taking an annual long-weekend trip to the Finger Lakes with another couple.

YAY! Gary youre FINALLY incorporating some fashion on WLTV! :)

QOTD: I definitely try new wines…often…I have to start taking notes, because Im trying so many and my memory of what I like and dont like isnt very sharp. I decided to start buying more of the wines I like..immediately after discovering I like them.
QOTD2: Macari Syrah…from North Fork of Long Island..I would say….I’d score it a PASS!

Where are you? I may come for a visit to the WineLibrary…will you be there?

  187. February 16, 2008

    GrapeHead

GV Yes I’ve had some New York wines. Several from Long Island Pindar Cab and Peconic Merlot…….major pass on both! Both had a major Oak Monster thing going on.

  188. February 16, 2008

    John from Allentown

QOTD: Last NY State wine was a Dr Frank Chardonnay that was drinkable; a reasonable effort. Most NYS wines I have tasted are not in the “Wow” category.

QOTD part 1: Have been expanding my wine palate into lesser known Italian wines and South America, as well as just trying more French wine. So much wine, so little time.

  189. February 16, 2008

    Mia

QOTD: Glad I watched this episode…my husband is from upstate NY, near Seneca Lake…most of the wineries suck. Last wine I had was Hazlett Cab Franc, ok..nothing special. All the rieslings I’ve tried from NY, have been too sweet.

  190. February 16, 2008

    David L

Yeah yea, Since you asked. So far I have tried 131 different variels of wine. A friend of mine turned me on to http://www.winecentury.com/about.html where the goal is to try over 100 different types of wine. And yes, I kept going after 100, and still trying new things as often as possible. Vidal ice wine is the ONLY New York wine I have had, Have you tried Vidal yet?? :-)

  191. February 16, 2008

    Paul

Haven’t tried a New York wine in some time. Lately most of our drinking has been with wines from Australia and New Zealand. Will be looking for this Gewurztraminer, as it sounds like a winner. Of course GV, we are buying new wines and expanding our pal.

1st QOTD: Yup. And it’s fun.
[B-727 needs to come on over to the Episcopal church for a different approach to Lent : ) ]

2cnd QOTD: I know I have had NY wine, but it was prior to my current state of awareness, so I have no memory of what, or even how, they were. Now I will be forced to seek them out and pay attention this time. Life is just so tough sometimes…

  193. February 16, 2008

    Bobinnati

Hmmmmm. Not sure I’ve ever had a wine from NY. On the other hand, I am trying very hard to expand my palate. I am making a valiant attempt to join De Long’s Century Club (for those who have tasted wine from 100 varietals). So far, I have tried wines from 24 different varietals, with my most recent being Lagrein, Corvina and Grignolino. I really enjoyed both the Lagrein and the Grignolino, though they are vastly different from one another. I have a Negroamaro, a Viognier and a Moscato lined up next. I think it will take me a year or so to get to 100, but I don’t mind. I would like to be able to try wines made from 100% of a single varietal, but that may be hard to do, so I am setting the bar at 70% while still attempting to find as many single varietals as I can.

Gary – in an attempt to help us become more diverse in our wine experience, how about offering six packs or cases of wine made from unusual varietals with let’s say FREE SHIPPING perhaps. I’m thinking one bottle each of six or twelve different, uncommon varietals that we could perhaps choose from a pool of such wines with no single wine more than 20 bones. How ’bout it GV?

The last New York wine I had was from my friend’s vineyard on the Hudson in Newberg. Kinda unremarkable. I have been trying all kinds of new wines lately including those from Douro region of Portugal and a Charbono from Calistoga, CA
Thanks Gary for opening my eyes and my pal tp the possibilities.

Hmmm. the last ny wine I had was a Cab Franc from bully hill winery.Nothing special, but since I am from the finger lakes region, I often try new ones, since the place I shop for wines has an isle dedicated to NY wines. As far as trying new wines, still working thru some of the bordeaux that I got from the sale over the holidays.

Not tried, nor noticed any wines from NY at the places I shop. I’m new to wine so there are a lot I haven’t tried (but I’d say Riesling and Gewurtz are my top whites so far). My last new was Tempranillo from Spain…very different than the fruit bombs. I’ve heard it’s more old world, but I am enjoying it. I want to start trying some French wines, like Cote du Rhone and Beujolais.

  202. February 17, 2008

    NB_SPAZZ

QOTDs: I haven’t tried any NY wines. Maybe a field trip to the Finger Lakes would provide some incentive to do so.
But I slowly have been checking out wines from Italy’s Piedmont region and some from Spain. Yesterday we tried Altos De Luzon Jumilla 2004. I liked this Monastrell (aka Mourvedre) based wine better than the 100% Tempranillos I had recently, though not sure why… My Pal’s not the best at putting its experiences into words (haven’t re-enacted episode 148 yet)

  203. February 17, 2008

Finally a little respect for some NY wines, even though only one scored well in today’s show. Kudos GV. Try some Hudson Valley wines soon. Latest NY wine for me was from there. Millbrook Cab Franc. Not bad stuff.

A very good LBF show. QOTD: 1) Not expanding my pallet at the present due to a boom in business this year, but have a few in the cellar I bought last year I never tried before and will be getting to this year, hopefully. 2) A long time ago, I think

Never had, but just the other week I was gifted a Dr Frank riesling by sympathetic friends, so that I might fix this.

  209. February 17, 2008

    Sarah

The most recent NY wine I have had was an 02 Dr. Frank dry Riesling. It held up pretty well although I prefer NY Rieslings in their youth. The 02 had the classic petrol nose and there was still a hint of minerality that I get from Dr. Frank wines, but the fruit was all gone.

Thanks, Gary for giving props to Riesling. Too many people overlook the grape because of prior misconceptions often rooted in sugary Blue Nun swill.

    Gary,

Loved this episode. Most peeps don’t know our back yard has some great wines. And, I did it…I linked you up…I have had a blog for a while and I write now and then but watching you now everyday I have turned the corner from the lurker to the full fledged vayniac. Damn. I never thought it would come to this. So, right on, Mr. GV. I am beholden to the power of the grape and your irreverent approach (and nose) to it.

Hi GV, Great show! I love New York State wines and was thrilled to see some on your show. The last NYS wine I recently tasted was Thirty Mile Point Crackling Sweet Catawba from Schulze Vineyards.

  216. February 17, 2008

Just got back from The Brotherhood Winery and Warwick Valley Winery yesterday. I gotta say – my favorite dry reisling is the 2005 vintage from The Brotherhood. I bought the 2006 recently and didn’t enjoy it as much so when I was there yesterday and found 11 bottles of the ‘05, I bought them all.

Warwick Valley had a great Black Dirt Red this past year but unfortunately, they sold out. They should have their next batch available in April.

I dig the NY State wineries because they are close to Hoboken and offer some pretty good wines for those of us who can’t stomach another glass of Yellow Tail but are looking for affordable wines to drink on a regular basis. I’m surprised more restaurants in Hoboken don’t serve NY wines. I did have a glass of Alba Wineries (NJ/PA border) raspberry dessert wine at Amanda’s last night which was good. I hope to see more East Coast wines on lists in the area.

    Gary,
I have posted here once or twice, but I tend to be one of te lurkers you are shouting about. Anyway, I decided to come out from behind the curtains for a little bit today. To start, this was a great episode, but I have to correct you on two things. First, I think that Long Island has been consistently been putting out nice wines for some time now [BTW, I am glad you commented on the Cab Francs, because it is a wine one hears little about as a stand-alone, but the LI wineries are putting out some nice ones--I used to think of them as the poor man's Cab, but the prices are rising. Second, NY is the home to the Jets, but they are, more specifically, based down here on, you guessed it, Long Island. They are not anywhere near theFinger Lakes. So how about some more LI wine tasting.
Now I just to comment on a couple of old shows [I can't watch everuday, so I'm trying to get intermittent new episodes and catch up on your shows starting at the beginning]. The episode with your nephew was great. Besides the wine aspects, I love the relationships in your family, and as a Boston U grad [undergrad and med school], I liked hearing that AJ is currently a student there. I also like when you try to look and the lower priced wines. I would suggest you try the Concha y Toro [Xplorador level] Cabernet and Malbec. I have particularly liked the Cab at that price level, but I haven’t been able to find it for a while.
QOTD 1=I have been working on expanding my palatefrom the time I started tasting wine. Except for a few wines I might get for house wine type drinking in case I have guests or just want something basic, I don’t have the time, budget, or experience to keep having the same wine over and over.
QOTD 2=An Osprey Dominion spiced wine. Not my favorite, but it had been on my small rack a couple of years [most of my wines last a couple of months, an I think this had passed its prime, but I hadn't had the opportunity to drink it for a while and I couldn't throw it away], and you asked for our ‘last’ NYS wine.

QOTD: God, have I ever. This year I’ve jumped into Spanish wines with Rioja’s, Alberino’s. I’ve also tried several white Bordeaux’s that I never would have tried a year ago. I just had my first Granache, a Sancere, and am getting ready to try a Chianti classico (after having tried a jug wine chianti years ago and vowing to never touch it again).

    Thanks, Gary.

Great to see wine’s highlighted from New York state. I was in the finger lakes region 2 years ago for a vacation and didn’t realize they had such a variety of wines coming from there.

Definitely going to try to get one of those bottles to have with the next dinner with friends.

We’re definitely trying new wines since watching WLTV!

Good job on this episode. I gave my local (Crafton, PA) state store ‘Wine and spirits’ a call to ask if I could find either of these selections. Of course I was almost naive to think I might be able to.

Gary, you’re awesome for showing NY wines! You can’t go wrong with NY riesling or gewurz, esp from Wiemer! Thanks!

    QOTD:
Question #1:Yes, I’ve been trying to try new things! On Valentine’s day we went out to dinner and I tried a Ripasso, and LOVED it. it was a great recommendation from our waiter and I’ll definitely try another when I see one.
Question #2: The last NY state wine I had was yesterday (I live here, so most of the wine I have is NY). My bf and I had a lovely bottle of Seneca Shores Royal Red, which was delish!

Great show today gary! Way to show some NY love!

QOTD: YES! That is my goal this year to expand my pal!!
Tasted a wonderful Merlot/Cab Franc the other night believe it or not and I’m not a big Merlot fan at all! Also an Albarino and a dry Reisling from Isreal. At least it was Kosher!!

Last wine I had from NY was an Eiswein Wine from Nigara Falls area – long time ago though haven’t ventured in that territory in awhile.

Liked the shirt all the way tucked in…half and half makes you look like you don’t give a damn….old fashioned I guess!!

I’ve been expanding my pallet as much as I can. I’m heading like 40 miles this weekend to try a Cote Rotie as part of a tasting just because I’ve wanted to try one for so long and I’ve not been able to (a true Cote Rotie, not an Australian Shiraz/Viognier blend). I’ve also tried Bonarda, Semillion, and Barbera d’Asti recently.

    Hi Gary,

You probably noticed that I haven’t been leaving comments as much but my grandmother recently passed away so I had to see to that. I haven’t had any New York wines as I am not from N.Y. but next time I will check for some at the S.A.Q., I am not sure we have them in Montreal but it’s good that you brought to our attention wines that go well with thai and or spicy food as our generation seems to be into that these days, keep it up ! :)

  235. February 18, 2008

QOTD #1: Yes I have been making a weekly effort to expand my palate. I tried a Sicilian white last night- blend of Insolia and Chard. I have been tring to get a little more info on Insolia (sometimes spelled Inzolia) but haven’t had much luck. Any info from you?

QOTD #2: I visited several Finger Lakes wineries on our annual NC reunion trip in 2003. I had a wine that was a life changer (maybe a little delayed) Dr. Konstantin Frank’s Rkatsiteli. It was like lemon meets strawberry starburst explosion with a finish that seriously lasted >5 minutes! Alas,
I haven’t had a NY state wine since that experience, gotta break that streak!

I’ve expanded my pallette lately by trying my first Alsace Gewurtz. It was pretty good! I am planning on trying more.

    GV,
We have a cottage in Western NY around Chautauqua Lake. I have always wanted to try a good wine from the region, but did not know which one to try. I now know I have to try the Gewurz. Thanks!

  243. February 18, 2008

    Jeff m

Yes, I’m on a mission to expand my pallet. Thank you Gary for often pointing out wines I’ve never heard from. I recently went on a white wine kick. I started out just wanting to drink something lighter, but after awhile I had a hard time going back to reds. On this same note, I was very surprised to see how many people hadn’t tried Pinot Noirs a few episodes back. I would’ve thought that would be in regular heavy rotation for almost everyone. Especially if you live in Washington or California.

    Gary,

Since you said no matter how long after the episode you read the posts, I’ll leave this one. I’ve had a number of NYS wines, going back as far as 1980. Have had Dr. Frank’s wines, Heron Hill – good whites, Bully Hill and others. Most recently I drank a Cab Franc from Anthony Road Winery in NYS. I had bought it at the Union Square Farmers Market in NYC several months ago, but popped it after watching your WLTV episode on CFs. Even from NYS, that CF had all the characteristics you talked about. NYS has come a long way since 1980 and is worth checking out.

QOTD: Sorry GV, never had a NY wine, though I have had some Northern PA wines, erie area. Nothing that has ever wowed me, but decent.

  249. February 19, 2008

    Colin

GV – Just got back from the Fingers so I’ve just had a bunch! Juliana and I go every year – and the whites are getting better, slowly. The reds still have a long way to go – but I was actually surprised by some Cab Franc this year (and haven’t in the past). Concentrated on Seneca Lake this year – with the standouts being Standing Stone, Red Newt and Atwater. Ice Wines were good as well.

Channing Daughters’ Cuvee Tropical is one of my favorite summer whites, especially with any spicy food.

Feel like I have to do Long Island a bigger shout out as most of the comments are about the Finger Lakes. Besides Channing Daughters, Wolffer and Duck Walk have some decent wines in the Hamptons.

It may be a hipster ploy, but Brooklyn also just got Winery in Greenpoint. Haven’t had the wines yet, but I’ve seen them in the stores already.

    Hi Gary,

Great to see wines from the Finger Lakes area. I live just south of there.

Never had a NY state wine but with my Grandpa being a New Yorker the next time i am over, will seek some out. Finding one will be kinda hard over here in the UK.
It is his fault i am a massive Jets and Yankees fan. Watch the Brick become the best LT in the NFL and Joba, Hughes, Kennedy and Wang will hurl us to the world series.

    Wine Not?

Expanding the palate…..well, I tried a pinot noir that was, well, blanc! True enough, I was at a tasting this weekend where they were pouring a white pinot noir from Germany….very interesting…

QOTD: Funny you should ask! I just got back from a weekend in NYC (I yelled a “hello” in the westerly direction to you, Gary…did you hear me?)and visited Vintage New York in Soho and tasted TONS of New York wines! I’d recommend this place to anyone…they treat you very well there! I personally enjoyed the Long Island wines more, but my friend really grooved on the Finger Lakes offerings. In any case, we both LOVED the blueberry port that we finished with….Finger Lakes, I think????

QOTD: can’t quite remember though I’ve had quite a few from NY. I do recall Finger Lakes and Niagra (Buffalo) regions leaving a positive impression for Reislings and icewines.
Yea, I tasted your Christmas pack with Mom in front of your video and she complained about you “wasting” wine. I defended you because personally, I rinse glasses out with wine instead of water. I’m a huge fan of exploring and love the Gewurz; thanks for tasting one. Interesting to hear you rave about it next to a Reisling when you’ve always been such a fan of the latter. Guess it’s all about quality. You need one of those blinking red lights like the Hollywood soundstages to avoid interruptions. On the other hand you strike me as one of those “open door” guys who wants to stay in touch with the workforce.
    Nice ep as always.

I don’t know if I have ever had a wine from New York State. Living in Washington state gives me so many opportunities for great wine from the West Coast. I have had the pleasure of visiting wineries in Washington and Oregon, at these wineries I have had some Lemberger’s, Dolcetto’s, and many other little known (to me) grapes. I say this to answer the first question of the day. I tell you, the Lemberger was very different, and I don’t feel the need to seek it out again.

Thanks for all you do for us Vayniacs Gary.

QOTD:The last NY wines I had were actually Herman Wiemer Rieslings. I had them at a wine festival in Ocean City, MD. This was probably 10 years ago. At the time I thought that they were the best Riesling wines I had ever tasted.

But I’d love to try some riesling!

I’m definitely stoked for all the new things in 2008. I’ll be hitting Oregon pretty hard, the Finger Lakes, Italy, Argentina, and France.

The last New York State wine I had was last June at Vintage New York Wine Bar. I tried several Cab Francs (my fav) and was very impressed. There was one that stood out, but not enough for me to remember the name…obviously! ;)

QOTD: I haven’t had a NY wine, ever. But I am totally into Gewurtztraminer and I can’t wait to see if I can find the Herman Weimer in my area (please, PA, don’t disappoint me again!!!).

Hey GV- We’ve had those two before and we’re impressed. I think we may have a couple left still. QOTD: Standing stone reisling

Hey GV. Have you tried a Gewurzt cross called Traminette. I think they are growing it in the Finger Lakes. I’m a grower in Nova Scotia’s Annapolis Valley (Bay of Fundy tides to keep the babies warm) and want to try some here.

    Cheers

QOTD: Don’t get NY State wines here in Texas, not that I’ve found anyway. Last one(s) I had were a selection from Baldwin Winery, right around the corner practically from my brother’s place. They had some really delicious desert wines, but also some more mainstream varietals. This was before I was a Vayniac, and the relatives are not big wine drinkers, but I wish I had tried their Cab Franc. I’ve got their URL, so I’m planning on mail ordering some soon.

    GV,
Great episode. Love how you adapt to real life in the show (associate asking about wines for the dinner). Most people would cut and start over to make it perfect, but you make it feel more real and down to earth.
1st QOTD: Definetely trying new things. Buying wines I would never have given a second look to and also buying wines I like (Sauv Blanc, Gewurz) but not from the popular regions where they are famous and that I tend to buy from.
2nd QOTD: Sadly, I’ve never had any wine from New York State before. Didn’t really get into wine until I moved to Hawaii and can’t get it out here.

    ok G.

1: in the last couple of days i hva tried: german blancs, rouges and fizzies. i have also tried a couple of red bourgundies, som dark and intense merlots from the south america. what have this done to me? expanded my palet.

2: i work at a winebar, and today i had canadian guests. the woman said: i want a dry white wine, i must not be sweet, like those german rieslings. so i pour her a german riesling and she tastes it, she likes it and asks what it is. its a german riesling i say. and i add: you should not preconcive(sp?), to my luck she manages not to burst her ‘taste’ in my face, but it was close.

3: the split shirt style is old, even old mc sqrm from norway have been doing that for ages.

4: i have not had a new york state wine. ship to denmark, and i will.

Yes! Great show on our best winemaker here in the Finger Lakes! The entire FL wine industry has much to thank Herm Weimer for.

The most recent FL wine I’ve popped was a 2006 Standing Stone Riesling…my tasting notes: Apple and herbs on the nose. Nice mouthfeel, light to medium bodied. Decent acidity. A little burnt match-phosporus taste on the finish. Up there with some of the better rieslings I’ve tasted from around the Finger Lakes. Scored it 86.

I do expand my palette whenever possible, I jump around from country to country, but I’m spending a lot of time with Italy, France, and Argentina. As far as a NY wine, I think I’ve had one but I can’t remember what is was. So let’s pretend I haven’t had one and you just helped me discover a new region…”Wow, thanks Gary!”

QOTD 1: I am tasting every French wine I can possibly get my hands on from Jura to Quarte de Chaume and therefore massively expanding my new world raised palate.

QOTD: Haven’t had an east coast/New York wine in a while sorry boss.

I have already typed this once, but here it goes…..

Rinsing out wine glasses with the wine you are about to taste – I am down with what you are doing – any knowledgeable wine taster would not give you crap for it.

QOTD 1 – A Greek blend of Cab Sauv and Aghortiko (sic) – decent but gave me a headache.

QOTD 2 – A NY Ice Wine (forgot the name) that was delicious.

Oh, I was so hoping the Riesling was going to rock, but I’d go for the Gewurztraminer. Love dry Gewurzt.

QOTD1: Yes, Vermentino last weekend and always on the look out for something different.

    QOTD2: No, unfortunately not.

Yeah NY State! When I went home to Buffalo recently, I bought both of these wines for my always expanding (costly hobby…oh well) wine cellar in my apartment storage unit in the basement of my building in Washington, DC. NY wines are tough to come by here. I haven’t tried either one yet, though I am looking forward to them.

The last NY wine I had was a Riesling from…I can’t remember the name of the winery. It was pretty good, too. I had it with a fresh ham I made for my friends on Easter.

    Great show, Gary.

I met Hermann in the early 70’s when he and I (and my wife) lived in Corning. I picked Riesling grapes with him in his vineyards in the fall of 74 or 75. He was passionate about his vineyards and wine then as I am sure he is now. I developed a case study in business school based upon his winery. I attempted to show what kind of investment was required to develop a successful wine business. I hope he benefitted from it. If you have a chance, give him my best regards.

big ups to the finger lakes. if you’re looking to tour the area i’d recommend driving in a bigass circle around seneca lake. specifically, prejean and lamoreaux landing. also, stop in my hometown of geneva and eat at Parkers. probably the best buffalo wings in the world.

This is a wonderful winery in the Finger Lakes and I was thrilled to see it on your picks for the best for Thanksgiving. There are a few real gems in this area and its great to see them get some attention!

QOTD 1: I’ve been working on expanding my palate, as far as my budget allows anyway. I found an Argentinian Malbec the other day for $9AUD. Very different from anything I had tasted. I’ve also been trying to eat lots of things I normally wouldn’t.

QOTD 2: I’ve never had a wine from New York state, as I’ve never found one here in Australia, but hopefully I’ll be travelling in the US in the next few years, so I’ll definitely have one then, if not sooner.
