QOTD: I recently tried 05-Bordeaux. I don’t remember which (I left it in corck’d). I bought it by label and in the upper price range. This wine was really a serious one. ‘05 has so much potential. Buy it, test it, even if it rips your wallet!
    SQOTD: Germany.

    Paulo P.

    SQOTD: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
QOTD: NONE. Any imported wine gets to Brazil with a 100%-500% premium for whatever reasons that is. That is even more inflated if you are talking about a special product (ie. good 2005 Bordeaux). So, a US15 bones (US) 05 Bordeaux could EASILY get to U$90 in here…. no wino, man, no wino.

QOTD: Gonna try the 2005 soon I hope

Side QOTD: The hot and sunny island of Cyprus.

    My 2005 Bordeaux story:
I bought two cases worth of 2005 Bordeaux (Chat Sansonnet, Le gay, Faizeau) from WL waaaay back when you said, “Buy this now! Buy it on futures! It’s great!”
After August of 2007 WL no longer ships to WA state. So, I had to cancel all my orders. Very sad.
I now no longer have any 2005 bordeaux.

    The End.

QOTD: I’m rolling in 0 bottles of ‘05 Bord. I’m hoping 2012 will be a big year, b/c by then I should have enough money to buy one case of something special.

    GV:
This was a very cool episode. Please keep up the good work with the light colored shirts. I know I’m a weirdo about this, but I just love how much easier it is to see the color when you swirl it.
I’m glad to see the whites getting some love here, but I’m a little surprised you’ve not talked about how good the vintage was for Sauternes as well…which leads to my answer to the QOTD…

I purchased three total cases of five different ‘05 Bordo futures: one of the five is Guiraud from Sauternes. However, I now have a fourth case on the way: I just snagged a case of the Secret. THANKS for hooking us up!

    GV,

Hello…I started watching your program about 20 episodes ago and have to say that you certainly make wine interesting. Before watching, I only had my bourgeois friends, who “thought” they had good pals, to reference my pal to. I’ve even started to pick some of you catch-phrases like “Sniffy-Sniff” and “let’s give it a whirl” when tasting wine. You certainly know you stuff and I have to say I’m starting to get back into wine after now that I have money to do so.

I actually have a question that maybe you can help me with. Is it possible to buy wine over the internet and have I shipped to Florida? Let me know.

Alright, I finally bit on some ‘05 Bordeaux…
Ordered a few of the following from WL:

2005 Chateau Les Secrets De Cardinale
    2005 Chateau Gruaud Larose

Thanks for the recommendation on the Chateau Les Secrets De Cardinale!

QOTD: I feel so bad, but the only thing I have really been able to find so far is some Mouton Cadet! I am looking hard. Might just have to break down and order some from the WL website.

To be frank…minimal. The least represented varietals in my cellar are cabernet and merlot and therefore not many 2005s. Three if I am lucky!

I am not a fan of bordeaux so I spend my money else where. I have been to tastings where people where raving over the wine, me?? Meh.

You said it! You finally said it! Sweet fancy Moses, you actually called it THE THUNDERMUG! Kick ass!

Gary, you seriously made my day today by granting my small, and perhaps somewhat silly wish, of calling the big ass glass THE THUNDERMUG. The only thing is, I am a girl and not a guy. But, in the grand scheme of things my gender is really not as important as you calling the big ass glass by its rightful name, THE THUNDERMUG. I urge you to avoid listening to those haters who are dissing THE THUNDERMUG. Let it sit with you for a while. Sleep on it. Mull it over. Eventually, with time and contemplation you will come to understand, as I have, that this is its true name.

    Thanks again, GV!

Got a case of La Fleur Petrus.
Problem I have with Bordeaux is that you need to wait lots of years to really enjoy it at its peak, and I am an impatient person.

    Hey Gary,

    How was your trip?

I’m dying to try these few wines from yesterday and today.

QOTD: I have no 2005 Brdx’s……so I’m ready to try them and see what I would like to buy. Need your help.

  21. February 20, 2008

    Dave C

QOTD: No 2005s. Still living like a CKC member, but not for much longer.

Gary, you’ve done it. Long time lurker, first time commenter. I just wanted to thank you for over 300 fantastic episodes via iTunes. You mentioned that you may stop doing ratings. Please don’t. You have made it clear that every palate is different, so why not provide us with some kind of qualitative understanding of yours. I am a beginning wine drinker, and enjoy hearing your thoughts on each wine as well as the final score that is the summation of those thoughts.

My first wine love was Bordeaux so it holds a special place in my heart. When I began hearing all the ‘05 vintage hype, I took your advice and purchased wine futures for the very first time. And the excitement begins as I recently picked up a few bottles of the early arrivals. I’m looking forward to sharing these special wines with the special people in my life!!! That’s how I will spread the Thunder Thanks again Gary!!!

QOTD: I have spent every spair penny I have had for the last two years on 2005 bordeaux. (If I had more spair pennies, that might have ammounted to something).

I have gone to every wine shop in town, and no one here has the newest wine spectator. Very annoying. Perhaps you could post some scores from the new mag…

Hi Gary – I watch on my iPhone most of the time so I don’t get a chance to comment that often, but I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate not only your show, but the passion and vision you bring to what you’re doing.

Your mantra of “because you, with a little bit of me, we’re changing the wine world, whether they like it or not” is seriously empowering – it’s a cause that people can identify with and hook into, and get passionate about helping you with.

It’s even inspired us to take another look at what we’re doing here at clipmarks and remember that what we’re doing has the power to change the world as well and embrace that potential.

    So, thanks :)

In other news, it looks like our mutual friend Tara Hunt is coming out for BarCampNYC3 – any chance we could entice you out for a weekend of hard-core geekery? http://barcamp.pbwiki.com/BarCampNYC3
