QOTD: Case and a half of ‘05 Futures through WL. Wish I could get more now but my wife might have my head!

By the time I pay for my allocations of wine from Washington and California there isn’t much shelf-space or money left for Bordeaux. My cellar is really under-represented from France and my challenge this year is to sample many more “old world” wines and distinguish some favorite regions.

qotd – Bought 3 cases of mostly value (under $50/bottle) on futures about a year ago.

SIDE QOTD: YOU SAID IT GARY… PANAMA!!!!

    VIVA PANAMA!

QOTD: Tried getting my hands on some 05 bordeauxs from my local wine merchant and friend who has some contacts in france, some barons or somthing, but due to really really high prices and local Panamanian sanitary laws… I got none :( … oh well, ce la vid

    Hi Gary,

what does it take to be one of your “better customers”? (Check my order history)
QOTD – I have almost six cases on order through the WL futures of 2005 Bordeaux. That is about all that I can afford of a single vintage. The challenge was that 2004 Napa came out at the same time so I had two vintages to chase at once. WL’s pricing protected their customers for the most part, but even WL couldn’t help with the first growth chateau nutty pricing.

I’ve got a whopping one bottle of Chateau Saransot-Dupre Listrac-Medoc 05… so the craze kinda blew by me. I guess I’m just reluctant to spend comparatively big bucks on wine I haven’t tried and that is young; and then of course there’s the hype which got me suspicious that it might be hard to get good qpr… I’ve been liking 04 Bordeaux for that. As for 05, I guess I’ll just have to trust the judgement of my retailers.

    QOTD: Germany represent!

QOTD: I’ve bought a bunch of nearly random 3 bottle sets since I can’t by a lot of different things by the case…

QOTD: 05 Bordeaux is now on my list.

Side question of the day…. Winnipeg, Manitoba. Right in the middle of Canada. I think you’d be surprised that pretty much everyone here drinks wine and beer from all over the world.

PLEAAAASE set up a Winelib in Canada. We need access to some quality Vino for reasonable prices. :D

    Peace,
    John

i have had 2 bottles of 05 so far, and both were killer…and lower pedigree…so it is like you say….it seems that almost anyone could have made a good bordeaux in 05

GV- throw out a some names of cheap 05 bordeaux for us cheapo’s. QOTD: we’ve got about 5 cases on futures.

Been lurking awhile; time to comment! Do you realize that as fast as you talk, your ’sitcom-length’ episodes contain feature-film amounts of material??? Side question–The Republic of Texas! QOD–none. I’m working on fixing that, however. Thanks for the great episode.

I hope this is the write episode at to the question of the day, lol. My backround is a little of everything and a lot of I don’t know about, lol. I am adopted at birth by an Egytian family and I was raised with Egyptian values although I live in Montreal and sort of combined my own values with Egyptian values, basically I believe firmly in free of will and respect of other peoples lives and choices. Keep wine library rolling :)

Gary – your enthusiasm for the 2005 Bordeaux really comes through, but it you say “really” one more time, I’m coming to NJ to spay you ;-)

Props on the good call with the 05’s. In Washington State the 05 and 06 vintages are pretty off the chart.

QOTD: I’m on a wine buying freeze so none for me. There will always be good wine to buy. No reason to freekout. If you’re into collecting I vote for the ball cards, comics, and action figures. They don’t taste as good but they’re timeless.

I have had a couple stray 2005 Bordeaux’s that I came across in my local wine and spirits shop. Delicious and actually pretty decently priced. Surprise! I’m sure they won’t be around for long.

I have been enjoying 2005s from other regions of France, though, like the Loire Valley…I had a Bourgeil Cab Franc for Valentine’s day that was pretty bomb (although needed a good decanting…RIPPING tannins!)

QOTD: I had the Bordeaux in the x-mas pck, but that is all.

I LOVED the white, and will be looking to buy more of that, if I can find it.

I have one 2005 bordeaux sitting on my little wine rack, and I’ve had one or two in the past that were seriously impressive, so I’m anxious to find more. With a small apartment and a small budget, it’s not incredibly easy to stock up, though.

  25. February 21, 2008

    J.Č.

Gary, stop it!!! :o ) The 2005 Bordeaux is soooo expensive already and this makes it even worse :o ) And all the bottles already in the cellar are too young to be drunk now, mouthwatering shows like this makes waiting almost unbearable.
