Great show. Nice to get another 2005 update from you. If I remember I first learned about the "legendary" vintage from you. QOTD: Pretty damn good. I bought almost all of mine from Costco, so I got a good deal over what most wine shops would sell bottles for. Ive got about 6 bordeauxs, and something like 4 sauternes. Couldnt help myself.... Costco has steals.... STEALS!!!

As almost always a very fun episode, and being a newbie here I just pulled it from the archives. Anything coming from Ch. Fleur Cardinale is a winner so congratulations on procuring that allocation.

QOTD - I have had some 2005 petits chateaux and most of them were very good. One very dissapointing offering was the 2005 Chateau Vieille Tour La Rose, coming from St. Emilion. This was just a very mediocre wine, fortunately inexpensive. A very nice sleeper was the Chateau Pezat, a Bordeaux Superieur from Entre Deux Mers that is owned and vinified by and at Chateau Teyssier in St. Emilion - and very much resembles that more famous commune. I also have one bottle each of Chateaux Giraud, Nenin, and Bahans Haut-Brion.

You’ve done a lot of 2005 Bordeaux shows. You say anybody can make a good wine in Bordeaux in ’05. You also talk of the prices shooting up. But you focus on the high end. If the hundred dollar bottles shoot up 50%, will the $10 bottles also shoot up 50%? In the fall of 2007 I hit the Bordeaux aisle of the Claymont Total Wines. I picked up about 8 bottles of the red stuff from different wineries in the $10 to $12 range with no regard to vintage (or winery). I think I only made it about a third of the way down the aisle when I stopped because I had enough for one shopping trip. In January of 2008 I discovered WLTV and over the next few months I watched every episode and discovered that 2005 was something special. I then checked my stash and discovered that they’re nearly all 2005. I’m thinking, “boy did I luck out.” WLTV also convinced me that I should keep track of the wines I drink and take notes. I’m sure I’ve had Bordeaux before but tonight I’m having the first one since I started keeping track. So …

I’m having my first (recorded) red Bordeaux as I rewatch this episode. It’s a 2005 Chateau Haut-Guillebot Bordeaux. I did a little internet searching and it looks like it’s still selling for about $10 to $12. So perhaps low end 2005 Bordeaux hasn’t shot up over the last year. It’s got the tannins that I like. I’m not real good at identifying flavors but it’s not bad. But it’s not good enough for me to run out and try to get more of the same label.
